Have you ever handled 11,000 applications at once in your life?

If you have not, then withdraw those statements.
And so? Why not hire additional hands to tackle the job? Or is it a crime? Or can't you use apps to screen the CVs? And why not spread the exercise of reviewing those applications over a couple of weeks, so that you can devote enough time to the task? shocked Due to your laziness, you devised an underhand strategy to reduce your workload, and you are trying to present that crafty strategy as the gold standard of operations, for HR recruiters. Abeg, park well! angry

Why dont you try applying for a job with Ernst and Young with femiprettygals@yahoo.com.I would take the advise of a recruiter any day.I doubt you have a good job or you are anywhere near a good job.A recruiter has just published expo on acing interviews and you are complaining. Some Nigerian youths should be used as sacrifice to the god of nothing.
Cut the crap. undecided I have worked with 3 top multinational firms over the past 10 years, and I used a personal e-mail address, that did not contain any of my names. In one case, I was actually head-hunted by the second company. sad One of those multinational firms posted me to 4 different countries on 3 continents to carry out different assignments, over a period of two years. Ernst and Young is one of the firms that worked for the company. And I once had a chance to vet their bills. So you need to know that you are not talking to a novice. sad

As a young candidate seeking a job, I would advise you to develop your IQ, master your craft, acquire relevant certifications in your field, volunteer for different causes, expand your knowledge, and improve yourself as much as possible, so that anyone would see from your CV, the immense value you are likely to bring to any company that decides to hire you.

DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER, the cliché stands

Using your name as your address is good, nevertheless, If the email ad isn't too bad like the one LaudableXX suggested, y not? Don't wait for a full name ad like onikolapoomojogbodarasimiolowogbogboro@hotmail.com before you proceed.

Some recruiters actually request to attach the cover letter so as to print a hard copy of it, and many don't like lengthy emails (myself, e.g). Do indicate your preference while advertising. I support putting a little introduction of your skills in job emails, though.

Try as much as you can to go through a candidate's documents. Only discard CVs if THEY ARE NOT TAILORED OR SUIT THE ROLE not because they are unimpressive. Nigerian recruiters have this annoying habit of not doing so. Imagine an interviewer asking a candidate "do you have any experience/education" while he/she has a copy of the candidate's CV in hand. You have to make them feel you want to study them even as you expect them to study your company.
Reasonable enquiries will focus on their potentials and what they have to offer not on obvious facts.

So many wrong people are in the right positions already because of recruiter bias

Another display of incompetence by recruiters is the act of sending undetailed IVs. How will an invitee acknowledge this?
e.g,

You're invited for an interview
on Mt. Everest
Tuesday by 11:00am bla bla bla...

no position indicated, what if you're a scammer?

THE COWARDLY ACT OF NOT NOTIFYING FAILED CANDIDATES OR saying "WE'LL GET BACK TO YOU" when you plan not to. SO GROSS & DUMB– attitude of lazy recruiters.

Be nice to all candidates. That one you rejected yesterday could hire you tomorrow.
Oh my dear, may you live long! cheesy You just took the words right out of my mouth. wink These days, anyone can follow the so-called 'rules' just to get noticed by a recruiter, and called up for an interview.

But the real test is in the suitability of the candidates for the job, and how much skill, knowledge, ability and expertise, he is able to bring on board. Some people have the most professional e-mail addresses, the best CVs etc, why? huh Because they have employed so called experts, to help them rewrite their CVs and create professional e-mail addresses, and also teach them how to answer standard interview questions.

Put them on a job, that requires them to think outside the box, or apply specific skills to resolve an aberrant situation, and then you see their sheer incompetence, shining through! shocked

One of the best candidates I ever employed was a guy who sent me his CV. After reading through his CV, I was fascinated by one of his hobbies. So I called him up for an interview. That was when I noticed his e-mail address. It was excalibur@drx.com. Well, being a true fan of the mythical King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table in Camelot, I was intrigued. cool

During the interview, I discovered he had skills in other IT areas, not even listed in his CV, that would come in useful on another project we were about to embark upon. Guess what? We employed him, sharp-sharp. wink He proved to be one of our best hires, ever. He was always quick on the ball, and had a great aptitude for designing creative solutions, and thinking outside the box! On one of the projects he handled for us, we made an additional 35% profit, because the client was impressed with the way he executed it. He was later head-hunted from our firm, by that same client, and we were really sorry to let him go. undecided

My own submission is simple. Give everyone a level playing field. Disenfranchising a potential candidate, by using a criteria that does not add any value whatsoever to his ability to do the job, is highly unfair. sad Did the recruiter put it in his job advert, that submissions should be only made using e-mail addresses that contain the candidate's full name?

qanda:
While it may sound harsh that most hiring managers critique email addresses, it does happen because they do create a first impression.

Below are 7 deadly email sins to make sure to stay away from so you don’t end up in the “unprofessional” pile.

1. Wrong Name
John_smith@.....(dot)com (when your real name is David Jones)
Don’t confuse the reader from the start! Is your name John Smith or David Jones? There is no reason to have the hiring manager ask this type of question at the start of your resume.’

2. Fantasy Name
invisibleman@.....(dot)com
Are you applying for a job or are you auditioning for a video game?

3. Creepy Name
collegestrangler@.....(dot)com
Given the fact that over 80% of companies now run background checks on potential employees, there is no reason to give an employer the impression that you may have a criminal record.

4. Sportsperson:
tigerwoods50@.....(dot)com
This might have been ok when you were in high school, but not in the workplace.

5. The Numbers:
998877665544@.....(dot)com
Confusing! You are just asking for someone to send an email to the wrong place.

6. The Crude Name:
hairychest@.....(dot)com
Not a good first impression. Also, many of these email address contain words that will usually get filtered into the spam folder.

7. Confess love email address:
bonjovilover@.....(dot)com

Again, you are applying for a job, not a role as a groupie.

So… what should you do?
Stick to the basics. The best email address will contain your full or partial name, followed by either characters or numbers. Think about how most workplace email addresses are set up – most of them contain a combination of an employee’s first and last name. Try to mimic this – a professional email address represents a professional job Candidate. Don’t give your reader the wrong impression!

"The best e-mail addresses.....?" Stop promoting rubbish. angry Keep elevating mundane nonsense over the real substance of the issue. Those who truly get the best jobs, were not selected based on how 'professional' their e-mail addresses, sounded. The number of people head-hunted from other firms, or shortlised from a wide variety of sources, were done without any particular emphasis on their e-mail addresses. undecided

No sir. The e-mail address adds nothing to your qualifications, work experience or ability to do the job! sad When a person starts elevating inconsequential mundane things above the real issues that matter, it detracts from the value or substance of the project.

It is quite worrisome that a young person posted this and others are liking it. Very worrisome. There is no sound recruiter on earth or in mars that will entertain a funny email address that is totally unrelated to your name. How can your email address be crossfire345@gmail.com? Who will take you seriously. The OP has taken his time to educate young people here on what a professional application should look like and you just go ahead to tag him lazy. Do you know how many mails they have to open? They have to work smart. What will it even cost you to open a proper mail? 5 minutes at no cost. We need to be better.
And it is quite worrisome that a young person like you, is supporting the recruiter's myopic, prejudiced, illogical views. shocked I repeat: What exact value does an e-mail address add to a potential candidate's ability to do the job? When anyone sends you an e-mail, the person's name shows up first in the sender's field, before you even see his e-mail address. So what is this silly crap about placing emphasis on some inconsequential e-mail address? Please stop supporting illogicality. undecided

I'm sure you will agree with me that nowhere in this world will such 'bias' earn anyone at that any sanction(s). It is not a gender, race, sex, religion, colour, age issue.
'Bias' could also be alleged when qualified candidates are dropped, simply because of prejudice on the part of the recruiter. undecided If a candidate gets to know that he was not screened for a position, even though he/she was fully qualified for the role, just because the recruiter didn't like his e-mail address, don't you think the recruiter's actions could be classified as bias? huh

Don't forget that applicants might know someone within the organisation, who could give them relevant inside info, and the recruiters may be unaware of this fact.

Somehow I share your believe and it should be so. But, for this recruiters with a workload the size of Manhattan combining both objective and subjective evaluation skills in recruiting for top organisations it is a means to cut down on invites.

Applicants can tied up on all loose ends especially on this simple things. There is too much supply of skilled workers in today's market so workers and applicant are put at the mercy of their employer and recruiters.
All is well
So because the recruiters are too lazy to do their jobs properly, we should applaud them for using silly illogical means, to deprive potential candidates, of a job? shocked

If the work load is too heavy, then why can't they recruit additional hands or even sub-contract part of the task to other recruiting firms? huh His pompous attitude and lack of objectivity, is part of what is ruining the chances of many candidates, as it prevents companies from even getting the best fit for the job.

It is a totally wrong means, and that is the point I am trying to make! No, sir. His points were NOT valid in any way. sad He simply discarded those e-mail addresses due to his inner prejudice, without giving any concrete reason. Which law says that an applicant's e-mail address must consist only of his name?? shocked In reality, I know people who got high-flying jobs, using e-mail addresses that did not contain their names! I don't about other Recruiters, but for me, a stupid email address will never earn an invite from me.

What the heck are, Chizzybaby@gmail.com, Zainab4luv@yahoo.com? Seriously, these ain't email anyone seriously looking for job should be associating with.

Personally, I prefer emails with the applicants' full name or first name.

Try as much as possible not to use numbers in your email address, only when necessary.

Something like this is manageable, LekanAzeez86@gmail.com but Lekan86@gmail.com is unacceptable to me.

Officiallekan@gmail.com, IamLekan@gmail.com, LekanOfficial@gmail.com are all acceptable to me.
It is recruiters like you that end up overlooking great candidates, because of an e-mail address that they dislike, due to their inner prejudice. sad What is your business with the person's e-mail address? As for me, as long as it is not '419scammer@gmail.com,' who cares? shocked

What should attract your attention is just the person's CV, or resume. undecided That is what your focus should be on, if you truly want to offer your clients the best services.

I was once contacted by a recruiter on Linkedin. He had gotten my resume from an acquaintance, and wanted to verify some details. I sent him replies using my personal e-mail, and he was surprised at my mail address. I explained to him, that the mailbox had been opened for me, by my first employer, but the firm later migrated to a corporate mail address, and the old personal one, was discarded. I retained mine after leaving the firm, because I just couldn't be bothered to change it.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I got the job but had to decline the offer, because it clashed with my other plans. sad
