Nigeriadondie: I never said it is entirely owned by the northerners but far more northerners than southerners had it. Thanks to d legacy of military rule dominated by the north https://www.google.no/amp/s/guardian.ng/news/niger-delta-indigenes-to-get-oil-blocks-to-douse-tension/amp http://www.herald.ng/niger-delta-avengers-reveals-list-oil-blocks-owned-atiku-top-nigerians/ Nigeria is about 57 yrs and d north had 37 yrs while d south had mere 20 yrs. Nigeria has had 25 indigenious chief of army staff, 17 from d north and a paltry 8 from d south. 18 chief of air staff 10 from d north and 8 from the south, Most of d military installations are concentrated in a section of d country. Guy, check the list of oil block owners issued by DPR or any reputable organisation. Only few northerners have blocks that have produced oil. More southerners own oil blocks, than northerners. In fact, most of the oil blocks owned by northerners have NOT produced any oil, and their licenses would soon expire. As for military chiefs and location of military installations, you are just digressing from the real issue. Open another thread, and list your grievances there. |

Up Ambode! Now, instead of spending 2 hours from Jakande to VGC roundabout and then on to Ajah, drivers and car owners can now make the trip in less than 15 minutes. Any governor who tries to alleviate the suffering of the masses, will always get my vote. May it never be well with those who cannot do such great things for their citizens, whenever they are at the helm of affairs! And any landlord who tries to increase the rent of his tenants on that axis, simply because the new bridge has been opened, will not enjoy the benefits of that bridge! |

Somehow, I am not too enthusiastic about a Wedding Party Part 2. Why? From experience, most Nigerian movies flop with their second part. It becomes an overkill. Take 'Jenifa' by Funke Akindele, for example. The acting was not superb, the technical quality was not great, but the comedy was infectious. And the masses loved it. By the time she did several spin-offs of the same character, it became boring and overdone. Instead of doing Wedding Party Part 2, the producers should work on producing memorabilia and merchandise inspired by the Wedding Party theme, in order to further popularise the movie. They should also think of how to distribute it in Eastern and Southern African countries, where there is a huge fan base of Nigerian movie lovers. |

Nigeriadondie: Yes other tribes of Niger Delta are saying they are not part of Biafra. Yes they chose not to be so that the oil wells can be controlled by their northern masters. Check it out if the oil wells were in d north wud any southerner dare to own a drop not to talk of oil wells?Former Senator Ita Enang said that 90% of the oil wells were owned by d north that made the likes of Dantata, Danjuma and others so wealthy. With ur one Nigeria ur land is destroyed with oil spills without compensations and other benefit that oil brings. Adaka Boro that fought against Biafra and Ken Saro Wiwa that was among those that looted igbo houses in PH after d war were are they now? The continued division of the southerners is what waters the control of d resources by the north over d south. What is keeping the north as part of Nigeria is the oil in the south. Believe me if the north gets oil today in huge commercial quantities the marriage called Nigeria wud end and d north wud never want to share a drop with the south That comment made by Former Senator Ita Enang who said that 90% of the oil wells were owned by the north has been exposed as a lie!! What is the proportion of northerners to the southerners who own oil wells? Uduimo Itsueli was one of the first owners of an independent exploration company that drilled oil wells in the Niger-Delta. He owns Dubri Oil. Is he a northerner? High Chief (Dr.) O.B. Lulu-Briggs, OON owns OML 114 which is one of the prolific oil wells in the Niger-Delta. Is he a northerner? OML 141 is another oil block owned by southerners. Emmanuel Egbogah is Chairman of Emerald Energy Resources that owns the oil well, while other shareholders are J.O. Amaefule, P.L. Caldwell, A.C. Uzoigwe, Amos NUR, C.N. Chieri, Femi Akingbe, and F.A. Njoku. They have owned the oil well since 2001. Sahara Energy Exploration Company owns OPL 284, 228, 332 and the owners are Tonye Cole, Ade Odunsi etc. Do they sound like northerners to you? Seplat Petroleum which is owned by Dr. Ambrosie Bryant Chukwueloka Orjiako and Austin Avuru own the following oil blocks - OPL 4, 38, and 41. They were granted the license since 2005. Are these gentlemen northerners, too? Ernest Azudialu Obiejesi, John Umeh, Nnenna Obiejiesi-Azudialu are the owners of OML 42. Their company, known as Neconde Energy produces between 30,000 and 70,000 barrels of oil per day. Are they northerners, as well? By the way, he owns 4 private jets, o! |

veraponpo: You are right. Exactly what Ogun State started doing few years ago under the leadership of Amosun. If Ogun continues with the current momentum, it will soon be close to Lagos in many areas. Then new argument will sprout up like - it is the proximity to Lagos that makes it possible. Ogun is close to Benin Republic Border, Ogun has educated people, etc.
But people always forget leadership ability of the government that makes it possible. Today Ogun's IGR is the first in the nation for any non-oil producing state since Lagos has been ranked as an Oil Producing state.
Other states that can perform like Lagos if they have good leaders are:
1. Kogi Sate ( many natural resources, artifacts, tourism sites, arable land, etc) 2 Edo same as above 3. Rivers state same as above 4. Delta, Same as above 5. Cross River and Akwa-Ibom 6. Kano 7. Kaduna 8. Borno
It is all about good leadership Guy, everything you said is correct. Even the chap you quoted made a lot of sense. But when you mentioned Kogi, I felt like crying. Kogi state is a metaphor for clueless leadership. Even when a state has natural resources, waterways, access and proximity to the state capital, its' development can still be stunted or killed by visionless, clueless, inept leaders who do not have the first idea of what it takes to achieve progress and excellence. If it was possible to rotate governors, I would ask Fashola, Donald Duke and Akpabio to take turns at the helm of governing Kogi State. Anyone should tell me if that state would not be transformed into a showpiece of excellence. |

igbodefender: Please Sir, bring such research here, let it be disected and let the truth prevail. Very important. How can 2 totally different ethnic groups share the same name within one portion of a country (Southern Nigeria)? That is very very rare and such statements that the 2 groups are different should only be proven by research, not by calling people names. Otherwise it would seem shallow.
There is no doubt that the Ugbo people were among the aboriginal people called Igbos in Ile Ife during the halcyon times. But Ugbo cannot claim to be the only ones there then. What of Owu? What of the Olukwumi of Anioma (Ugbodu and co)? What of the Oluyare still in Ile Ife today?
And they should also not try to overturn the New Order imposed by Oduduwa. Guy, there are different words in different languages that have different meanings, even when they have the same spelling. Go and check. In English language, the words sun and son have almost the same sound, but mean totally different things. Are they related? Guy, I did not call anyone names. I merely stated what the chap was. And this was informed by his actions. The old Ugbo people of Ile-Ife and the Nd'Igbo of the South-East do NOT share ancestral links, the same origin or identity, or even similar cultural and anthropological ties. So why should anyone call them, the same set of people? |

Lyoncrescent: Global theme may not be the right choice of words. More like Global Acceptance. For example take 3 idiots ,Kuch Kuch Hota hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
3 Idiots released 2009 had the biggest first week total in US with around $3 million over its first four days
Kuch Kuch Hota hai released 1998 became the first film to cross $5 million mark outside India(money made outside india), and became the highest grosser ever that time
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham was released in 2001 around 125 prints in the overseas markets, grossing a total of $8.9 million at the end of its theatrical run.[3][59] It performed very well in the United Kingdom, with a gross of $689,000 in its opening weekend. It thus debuted at the third position at the British box-office.[60] The total earnings of the film reached over $3.2 million in the UK.[59] The film also had the biggest opening ever for a Bollywood film in North America, with a gross of $1.1 million in 73 screens
My point is that Nigeria lacks the capacity for a movie to make more than 2 million dollars. If you remove lagos, im sure wedding party wont make more than 100 million naira compared to the over 400 million naira. How many of the 774 Local Governments in Nigeria even have cinemas and even if the had, how many would be feasible ?Even the cinema in calabar is struggling. in the prescence of this, releasing movies internationally to international audiecnes is the way to go. Funny enough , the Nigerian population in the UK may have flooded cinemas to eatch wedding party however we also need white british, americans, chinese, koreans, south americans to watch our movies and be blown away like i was blown away when i watched 3 idiots.
I once again agree with the wrong choice of words for Global themes but rather suggest we make quality movies that will have global acceptance unless of course we want to argue every white person is racist and will never what Nigerian movies which is not true Now I understand what you are saying. You believe our films lack global appeal or acceptance, which other international films have, and that is why such films have succeeded. I have said it before - we still need to improve the technical quality of our movies & films. Our crews need to master the techniques of lighting, better camera angles, editing & sound. Our dialogue can also be better structured to become more profound. We have great actors, as well as mediocre ones. And they too need to master their craft and improve on it. Apart from these, the international world of film distribution, logistics and marketing is a huge one. Unlike in Nigeria where people act like jack of all trades, each of these areas are highly specialised and capital intensive. How many of our people have been able to break into this market? We lack adequate cinema infrastructure in our 774 local govt areas, and this hampers film distribution to a large extent. I agree. But this is due to a failure of govt policy as well as a lack of will, expertise and funding to execute appropriate projects that would improve the film industry, as a whole. It would take ages for me to delve into this aspect. Maybe Orikinla would be willing to share his experience in this area. Content distribution is big business abroad. Any local film producer would first need to get the technical quality right, after incorporating a great storyline, in order to create a truly engaging piece. Then he or she would need to approach international film distribution companies, to syndicate the rights. It takes a whole lot of work and lots of legal briefs, to achieve. Are our producers, directors and film makers ready and able to do all the tasking legwork, in order to get their films on the world stage? No matter how fantastic your film is, if it is NOT shown to the right audience in different countries, it would never be viewed widely enough, in order to achieve global acceptance. |

mpowa: The movie was very good and I would rate it very high. It's not just the story, but the Characters - everybody fits their roles, then the Production is topnotch, I rarely see a nollywood movie with such quality production, it's mostly our music videos that have that. Then talking about global themes, I would say charity begins at home, before you can go global, your people must be in love with your production. I rarely watch nollywood, but I do watch Kunle Afolayan's films and 'the wedding party'. Before Nigerian music began to gain African audience then global audience, Nigerians loved it first, they started playing 50% Nigerian, 50% American music at parties and at homes, now it's almost 100%.indians love their own movies. We already have the uniqueness of the African/Nigerian story which the world would like to see, what's left is quality of acts and productions, so they should just keep up the quality and move away from and 'seven films in a week' films. Very well said!! I agree with most of your points. I do believe, that we still need to improve the technical quality of our movies & films. We need to master the techniques of lighting, better camera angles, editing & sound. Our dialogue can also be structured to become more profound. Once we can master all these areas, and combine them with our unique story telling abilities, who knows? Our movies would surely have global appeal.... |

Lyoncrescent: I think the wedding party 2 is being driven by greed. The wedding party 1 was a good movie and humorous thanks to sola sobowales role and ofcourse the yinka aiyefele music part. However, if i have to list the top 50 best nollywood movies of all time, wedding party wouldnt even come close. Its a good movie laced with humour and a breath of fresh air. Thats all there is to it.
Meanwhile, i often pity the mediocrity of nollywood. Our movies lack global themes. I remember the first time i watched 3 idiots, the indian movie i was blown away. Ive watched so many chinese movies and a lot of Nigerians watch Zee world and Telemundo . The million dollar question is why are indians in indians not blown away by our own movies ? Why are our movies not having global apeal to citizens of other countries while their own appeals to us and other gloabl countries. Nollywood hasnt arrived yet and as far as i know, we have to continue to manage with local champion content like okafors law and wedding party. First, you would need to define what you mean by a 'global theme,' if you want people to understand where you are coming from. There are universal themes like love, grief, betrayal, greed, death, retribution, loss, revenge, trust etc., which run through a lot of films, that have gained worldwide acclaim. Are you saying these are absent in our local movies? How many Indian films have a global theme? How many Chinese and Korean films have a global theme? Each of them still has some kind of local content or theme peculiar to their environment, that makes it different. It is not a minus, but a plus. There is beauty in diversity. We can't all be clones. I have watched a lot of foreign films, and I still see traces of their local themes and indigenous strains running through their plots. These are things that give such films their own peculiar appeal and flavour. My only grouse with the Wedding Party was that it ran for such a short period on the big screen, at the local cinemas. At Filmhouse iMAX Cinema in Lekki for example, the movie was shown for less than 4 months despite how successful it was. It also ran for short periods at other cinema halls, before the producers released it on DVD. Why the hurry? In other countries, such films will run on the big screen for at least two years! So why was the screening at the cinema halls cut short? Viewers who go to the cinema to watch films do so, because they want to experience the whole ambiance of the entire hall along with other viewers, while watching the movie. The jokes, laughter, interaction, theatrics, sound etc., go a long way in making it a truly enjoyable experience. Cutting short the movie shows on the big screen, was a disservice to a lot of people. |

There are more than 100,000 women married to Nigerians who have not been granted Nigerian citizenship because they have not lived in Nigeria for up to 7 - 10 years. Even if you lived here for more than 7 years, the granting of citizenship is still discretionary. Most people assume that once you marry a Nigerian then you are automatically a citizen. This is not so. Nigerian law is quite different from US or European Union laws. In fact, Mrs. Oshiomhole must be the fastest Naija wife to receive Naija citizenship. At last!!
