What happened to the massive underground parking lot beneath the MMIA airport? It used to be functional in the past, and passengers could take the lift, directly from the terminal to the basement car park. This helped to curtail traffic at the international airport. What happened later? They closed it up and allowed it to rot. It is still there, empty and rotting away in darkness. Next, they put in place passenger buses, to carry travellers from the airport to the open space car park, located several metres away from the building terminal. Cars were parked in the open space car park, and intending travellers had to join the buses to the airport terminal to board their flights. This helped to curtail traffic. After a while, those luxurious buses started breaking down, and only few ones were made available to passengers. Long queues then started to emerge. Traffic management became a nightmare at the international airport, as all kinds of cars were allowed to drive straight up the ramp leading to the arrival and departure halls. Until we get the fundamental basics right in this country, we will just waste time creating stupid rules to treat the symptoms, instead of curing the disease of traffic congestion, from the roots. |

Ddeeda: Reno Omokri do not speak about what you know nothing about, you are only making a fool of yourself.
I was raped in 2010.I wasn't a child infact I was studying for my masters degree in Unilag and I was raped by a classmate. I met with him on the basis that he needed materials for his thesis and I had some, we had finished coursework then. We met at an eatery he then told me his house is just behind the eatery, that we should go there. I won't bother to justify my actions here, everyone is free to interprete it as they will. He wass my classmate of over a year and he was married with a child, I felt safe. So we went up to his house and he raped me. I fought and screamed. It wasn't at night but generators were running still I am not sure if anyone heard me. He punched me on my shoulders and inner thighs, he was much bigger than me and this weakened me, I fought but he still managed to wear a condom and he raped me. He threatened me and begged me in the same breath, he told me his wife is a lecturer in a school in the East and she is hardly ever around, that he is lonely and he is sorry. I was in shock and in a trance, when he was done, he ordered me into his car, retrieved my underwear and cut it into many pieces, as he drove me home he dropped pieces of the underwear on the road. I stayed with my Aunt in Surulere, he dropped me right in front of my house. I was completely broken, I had cried so much my eyes were swollen and every bone in my body ached. I told my aunt, she believed me.. I told her because I knew I could trust her. We decided it won't yield anything reporting it to the police. After that day today is the first day I will tell anyone else this story.
I didnt see Afam again (Yes his name is Afam and who knows he may read this) until the day we convocated. I went to meet up other classmates in a restaurant inside the Uni, then I saw him. I felt so much rage and anger.. I was also scared. I sat as far away from him as possible but at a point I couldn't take it anymore, I stood up emptied my drink on his head and walked out. They asked me why, I told them he knows what he did. I have not seen or heard from him since then and today I write my story.
Does my story make sense that I went to my rapist house myself and he still drove me home and I never told anyone except my aunt? I was 23 years old when it happened and I wasn't a timid person but that experience cowered me. Like other things in my life I will rather not remember I have compartmentalized and buried it deep. I have moved on. I am now happily married Reno, it's not your place to analyze what you don't understand. Thank you Bukola, today I share my story because of you and no there is no cap to when you are ready to talk about.
PLS NOTE: I do not give anyone permission to share my story, I do not need any attention. What a painful experience it must have been for you. I am so sorry to hear this. I pray that you find healing, for your soul. And the scars within you, do not become permanent. As for the guy who hurt you, karma will not miss his address. When Busola described in her video she said "I didn't struggle, I just let him, he brought out his dick, pulled down my panties" Oga, her silence does not mean she gave consent. I had explained to you earlier that some people get paralysed with fear or shock when faced with a rape situation. Maybe the explanation by this psychologist would clarify things better. Why many rape victims don’t fight or yell
By James W. Hopper June 23, 2015
James W. Hopper, PhD, is an independent consultant and part-time instructor in psychology in the Department of Psychiatry of Harvard Medical School. He has conducted research on the neurobiology of trauma, and trains investigators, prosecutors, judges, and higher-education professionals on its implications. Here, he offers his explanation of why people don’t always respond to an attack the way others might expect:
In the midst of sexual assault, the brain’s fear circuitry dominates. The prefrontal cortex can be severely impaired, and all that’s left may be reflexes and habits.
In the Washington Post’s recent series on college sexual assault, many victims describe how they reacted – and did not react – while being assaulted.
Another article also published this month, in the Harvard Review of Psychiatry, shows that some responses have been programmed into human brains by evolution.
Bringing together the accounts of those who have been assaulted with the neurobiology of trauma can play an essential role in supporting healing and the pursuits of accountability and justice.
For example, freezing is a brain-based response to detecting danger, especially a predator’s attack. Think deer in the headlights.
As one woman told the Post, “I didn’t say no, but I didn’t really know what to do. I just kind of froze.”
Freezing occurs when the amygdala – a crucial structure in the brain’s fear circuitry – detects an attack and signals the brainstem to inhibit movement. It happens in a flash, automatically and beyond conscious control.
Simultaneously with the freeze response, the fear circuitry unleashes a surge of “stress chemicals” into the prefrontal cortex, the brain region that allows us to think rationally – to recall the bedroom door is open, or that people are in the dorm room next door, for example, and to make use of that information.
But the surge of chemicals rapidly impairs the prefrontal cortex. That’s because, despite our dominant role on the planet now, we evolved as prey, and when a lion or tiger is upon us, stopping to think is fatal.
Indeed, no one understands better than the military that intense fear impairs our prefrontal cortex and capacity for reason.
When bullets are flying and blood is flowing, you had better have some really effective habit learning to rely upon.
That’s why combat training is rigorous and repetitive – to burn in habits of effectively firing weapons, executing combat formations, etc.
Most victims will freeze, if only briefly. Some will fight back, effectively. Some will resist in habitual, passive ways. Some will suddenly give in and cry. Others will become paralyzed, become faint, pass out or dissociate.
Few who have experienced these responses realize that they are brain reactions to attack and terror.
They blame themselves for “failing” to resist. They feel ashamed. (Men especially may see themselves as cowards and feel like they’re not real men.) They may tell no one, even during an investigation. Sadly, many investigators and prosecutors still don’t know some or all of these brain-based responses.
None of these responses – in women or men – entails consent or cowardice.
None is evidence of resistance too insufficient to warrant our respect and compassion.
They are responses we should expect from brains dominated by the circuitry of fear (just as we should expect fragmented and incomplete memories).
May the day come when everyone who knows someone who has been sexually assaulted – which is all of us, whether we know that yet or not – understands these basic ways that our brains can react to such attacks and uses this knowledge to foster healing and justice.

I only pray people can find direct contact to the owners of the cars which will allow people to negotiate and buy them early enough before they all become very bad. Honestly, you are so correct. These vehicles should be sold at a low rate, because any buyer would still spend hundreds of thousands to put each of them back, in good working order. Apart from that, these vehicles are likely to have been fully depreciated in value, in the company's books. So why attaching a high price to it? She said it was rape but the description of the event didn't portray her resisting, unlike most rape victim. And given that the incident sexual encounter still occurred after
If this is statutory rape, then there must be a well-defined age of consent in the location where this occurred. So what was the age of consent in Ilorin Kwara State
The case to me looks like there was a sexual relationship between Biodun and Busola for several years even when she was an adult You are saying "if Busola was born in 1982..." Are you stating a fact or just guessing? And the fact that a person did not resist, does not mean she gave consent. She may have been paralysed with fear, or shock could have rendered her immobile. That was why I asked you to read up on the psychological effects of rape, on the human mind. Kindly do so. Maybe this will explain it better. laudate: People react differently when confronted with danger or sexual assault.
Some people will fight back, while others will freeze and become paralysed with fear. So that excuse of "no resistance" that you are reciting, does not hold water. Ask any psychologist or psychiatrist that has handled or counselled rape victims before. ...... As for the age of legal consent in Ilorin, kindly direct that question to lawyers who practice in that jurisdiction. They might have a better answer for you.... |

If she has psychological problems as a result of the rape, then she’d have forgotten the details she gave us. It is not possible to block out the day the raped occurred but still remember the actual rape. I have tried to educate people like you in the past, about the trauma suffered by rape victims. Such victims may not remember exact dates of their encounter, but will recall the pain and trauma they felt, in clear detail. The date may not be as important to them, as the encounter. Unless of course, there was something significant that was previously associated with that date, in particular (e.g. a birthday or something else). The human mind works in quite complex ways. And in some cases, certain bits of information are blocked out, as part of a coping mechanism in the victim's mind. sweetrace: Aunty Kemi, thank you for sharing some of the glaring inconsistencies in Busola’s story. Stop fooling yourself and stop complicating issues. Their local distributors in different parts of the country, can still be selling it till March 2002, sef. And not only that, Nigerian traders are very adventurous. The minute they spot a gap in the market, they take advantage of it. Some people could even have imported the same Krest from abroad into Naija in 2002, once they saw it was no longer available locally. Wasn't that what happened with Heineken in 1998 - 2000, before they started bottling it locally in Nigeria? Till today, there are people that import foreign Coke into Nigeria, even though the locally bottled type, is widely available. If Nigeria Bottling Co or Coca-Cola Nigeria should stop production for any reason today, the importers of the foreign variant of the same product, would flood our local markets, with their stuff. |
