Those houses are far less than 100 million. They range from 15 million for flats, to 35 -
million for houses, depending on the design and structure. They started advertising those houses for sale, since 2016 when the estate was being constructed.

They also put an instalmental payment plan in place, for prospective buyers.

I love your report. cheesy There was a particular year when Ozumba Mbadiwe was being re-constructed, and the toll gates were being installed. The traffic on that route was pure madness. It used to take 3-4 hours just to move from Sandfield at Oniru to Falomo in Ikoyi. That was when I discovered the boat route from Sandfield at Tarzan jetty, to Queen's drive in Ikoyi. grin

The entire boat ride used to take 15 minutes. And there was no traffic. I got to the office every day, feeling refreshed and relaxed, because I had avoided the stress related to the traffic. cool

I agree that govt needs to do much more to enforce safety on the water, and ensure that all boat owners provide life jackets for their passengers.

In foreign cities like Venice or Amsterdam, water transport is thriving and well regulated. More awareness needs to be built up about this great mode of transportation. If it is properly harnessed, traffic on our roads in Lagos, can become a thing of the past, as more people take to the waterways. wink

There are local boats that come all the way from Togo to Lagos, which ply the West African coastline. Why can't we have ferries that ply Lagos to Port-harcourt or Lagos to Warri? Can you imagine how many passengers would avoid the Benin-Ore gridlock? undecided

A similar thing happened during Shagari regime, when one Alhaji Darman from Borno state was sent on exile, in1981 or so. Who was allegedly accused of being a Chadian.
The guy you are referring to was Alhaji Abdurrahman Shugaba Darman.

On January 24, 1980, Immigration officers arrested Alhaji Darman on the strength of a deportation order signed by the Federal Minister of internal affairs Alhaji Bello Maitama.

The deportation order entitled "Shugaba Abdurrahman Darman's Deportation Order 1980", stated amongst other things that "...Shugaba Abdurrahman Darman at present in Nigeria ought to be classified as a prohibited immigrant" and also that "Shugaba Abdurrahman be deported from Nigeria by the first available means...." Shugaba Darman was promptly deported to a village in Chad.

In response to the public outcry against the obviously politically motivated deportation, the government instituted a one-man tribunal of inquiry presided over by Justice P.C Okanbo.

The NPN government and President Shehu Shagari in particular, were quite concerned about the negative press that the issue was generating, and also about allusions in the press to the partiality of the tribunal.

Shugaba Darman's troubles had allegedly started as a result of him being regarded as a threat, by the ruling party of the time, the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).

Shugaba Darman was a charismatic politician who attracted large crowds at political rallies, the crowds were drawn to his speeches in which he criticized the ruling NPN government. The government claimed that Shugaba's father was a Chadian, hence he was from Chad.

During the subsequent court case filed by the GNPP led legal team of Chief D. O.A Oguntoye, to challenge the deportation order, the government brought a Chadian woman who claimed that Shugaba was her biological son whom she wanted back; this while weeping profusely. Shugaba denied knowing the woman, and claimed that his mother was alive and well known in Maiduguri, even though her sight was now poor.

The Maiduguri high court ruled in Shugaba's favour in the case of "Shugaba Darman vs Federal Minister of Internal Affairs and Others", revoked the deportation order and awarded damages to the tune of 350,000 Naira to Shugaba.

The government appealed the verdict at the appeal court in Kaduna and lost. The case was then taken to the Supreme Court and that court yet again ruled in Shugaba's favour in a unanimous judgement by the four justices led by Justice Coker.

The case was overtaken by the subsequent military coup and no compensation was paid; Shugaba said he had forgiven the Shagari led government for his deportation. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdurrahman_Shugaba_Darman

Abegi, shift make I see front clearly jare. You're here telling us about checks conducted on imported foods, but you've quickly forgotten how many varieties of expired, condemned and diseased food keep coming into Nigeria on a per minute basis. You just want to show yourself. What you're saying is not related to the subject matter. I eat nutritious food that tastes better and which vitalises my body cells, tissues and organs, and not tasteless and useless pizza just because I'm trying to impress some parasites or show class. Take ya pizza elsewhere. Colonial mentality. Just to win argument and allow yourself to be seen as a paper tiger, you are even quoting and unquoting what I never said. How is that different from SARS accusing innocent suspects? Later you'll cry out that #EndSARS# whereas you're the sars you're trying to end in vain. Did I say this or you're quoting someone else?

Madam, my last post was not addressed to you, but to Shayooluwa. undecided If you read carefully through my exchanges with him, you will see that I responded to specific comments he raised.

You claim I said that
"Secondly, you claim that the person who ordered the pizza from London, can also ask a random Joe to accompany the pizza to Nigeria."
I used this comment to illustrate a point I made to Shayooluwa, and NOT to you. Or is your username now Shayooluwa? I don't get it, o! When did I say you made such a comment? huh

I spoke about bringing cooked food into Nigeria from the UK. Instead of reading my comments with some measure of understanding, you decided to get your knickers in a twist and launch a hate-filled rant. shocked

Expired food coming into Nigeria, is not something I mentioned in my previous post, or condoned. Those who bring it in, hardly fly such things in through the UK airports from London to Lagos, do they? Or do you have proof that they do so? shocked

Expired, diseased or contaminated food can also be sold by unscrupulous individuals to corrupt Nigerian importers, in different countries. So both the foreign seller and corrupt importer should share the blame. Check the labels of such goods and you will see the countries responsible for such reprehensible acts. undecided

Most of the seizures of expired food I have read about, have been done in Nigeria. Such food were stored in importers' warehouses until they expired, or were not cleared from sea ports until the expiry date had gone past. If the food had not expired at the time of export from the foreign country, but was left to rot on arrival instead of being cleared quickly, whose fault is that? sad

Can you see that all the digressing far and wide into the bush, just to win an argument is solely coming from your end? huh

Please try to refrain from launching your rants in my direction, simply because you want to vilify any one who does not support Audu Ogbeh. From my experience, politicians are all the same. They are masters of the sound bite who enjoy playing to the gallery. All talk and little action.

You did not specify which inspection officers you were referring to. I know be spirit how I go know.

And why do you presume the pizza has to be unaccompanied. Whoever paid for the order can also have a random Joe accompany his box of Pizza. Even if it means he has to pay a little more.

There's no flawless agency in the world, British or Nigerian. Once you know the inner workings of the system you can bend it how you like.

Despite what you believe it is still very do able for the people that have the means. Everyone is claiming the Minister is saying nonsense. My reason for defending him is, how do you know it's not true? You don't know everything that goes on in the country, someone from a vantage point now says something, but because it sounds improbable you begin to call him all sorts of names. Not nice

No need to get angry. Shalom brother.
Angry, kè? Over what? A Nigerian minister's random musings? Never! Who get that time? shocked
Just for the record, I NEVER called Audu Ogbeh names. Maybe you have me mixed up with someone else. shocked

Let's break it down to basics. I clearly mentioned 'food quarantine people in the UK' in the second paragraph of my previous post. Please read it again.

And all through my post, I made reference to flying in cooked food from a foreign country into Nigeria. There are checks conducted at foreign airports on any kind of edible food to be exported, or imported. Stringent checks. sad

Only processed, canned food may be exempted, based on the fact that the health authorities abroad within that country, have done their due diligence before it gets to the airport, to certify that the food is fit for consumption. undecided

The fact that anything is acceptable in Nigerian airports, does not mean the same thing happens in a foreign airport, especially in Western countries.

Secondly, you claim that the person who ordered the pizza from London, can also ask a random Joe to accompany the pizza to Nigeria. Really?? huh So according to you, a person would book a full airline ticket that costs thousands of naira, to get one random Joe on an international flight, just to bring pizza that costs less than one-thirtieth of a full passenger's economy ticket, simply because he wants to eat pizza in Nigeria? Abeg, let me laugh very well at the ridiculousness of the situation. cheesy

What stops such a person from hopping on to a plane to London, to visit his favourite pizza joint to eat the stuff? grin

How much does pizza cost in London, again? grin
PoliticsRe: British Airways React To Audu Ogbeh's Claim Of Importing Pizza From London by laudate: 8:55am On Mar 29, 2019
Shayooluwah:
You've got a point. But the people that I believe are indulged in such acts, do not care about money. The act in itself is penny wise and pound foolish. I mean why order a pizza for only God knows how much and still pay a hefty price for the transportation, when you can get it for less than 5k. Dominoes Pizza is not that bad na Baba. But then again they do not care about the monetary implication.

As to food quarantine customs bla bla. This is Nigeria. If you know your way and have the means. You can basically get away with anything. That has been proven to us times without number.

As to the condition of the pizza, leave that to the preference of the person who ordered it. I like that you mentioned a cooler can be used. I'll also like to point out that a fridge can also be used. If the person likes it fresh or not that's his business, if he liked fresh pizza he won't have been ordering it from a country a time zone away. And he can always warm it by the time he receives his not so fresh pizza.

The point remains that ordering pizza from U.K to Nigeria is very possible, and I believe some money miss roads might be involved in the act.

To buttress my point I'll add a personal experience. Back when I was still in Junior school, when pizza was not yet a big deal in Nigeria. A family friend returning from the U.S bought pizza before boarding their flight, they did not finish it, so they kept it. By the time they got to Nigeria and we had gone to visit them. They brought out the box of pizza warmed it and we enjoyed it.

So tell me once again why some overly eccentric person cannot order a box of pizza and have it delivered to him in Nigeria. Shebi na him get him money.
Oga, please go back and read my post with understanding before making a comment. I was referring to the food quarantine and inspection officers at the UK airports, not in Nigeria. Everything edible is inspected before it is allowed to fly.

Your friend buying pizza abroad and carrying it in their hand luggage to eat in Lagos, is NOT the same as placing an order for unaccompanied pizza from a restaurant and flying it into Nigeria.

Please do your checks, talk to those involved in international logistics and don't believe everything you hear or read. Audu Ogbeh talked about ordering pizza over the phone from London, and getting it delivered in Naija. Haba!

For those of you who may be ignorant of the facts, Audu Ogbeh remains one of the most effective Buhari's minister. Looks at his background educationally, look at his success in ministry of Agriculture, even his interview on the senate floor when he was being cleared as a minister.Today, Nigeria's total food production has increased. Audu Ogbeh spoke with facts and figures to back up his points, as he did during that senate clearance. His performance was sterling. Now to the Pizza issue, do you know how pizza is made?, From flour mainly and vegetables or marine species! Now those are agricultural produce. He was saying we are not growing enough corn, vegetables etc, so that there seems to be a lack of enough agricultural produce, some Nigerians even import pizza with their phones from London. This one is true. It clearly shows the minister is connected to reality. He knows what's going on. Some people will take a statement from someone and read out of context. You can draw an example from mundane things to drive home your points. Its a literary skill. If you know you know. Some of the boys criticising him here do not have basic WAEC! They English the write is terrible, the grammer nauseating, yet they are the first to fire a shot. #lazynigerianyouth

Audu Ogbeh goofed with his reference to importing pizza over the phone, from London. undecided If you know anything about international logistics especially with regards to cooked food, you will know that it is far easier to fly in a chef to make the pizza in Nigeria, than to airfreight it from a restaurant in London to Nigeria.
