Oh, so 'its a first', abi? Guess  you must have been living on the moon!

When Kolawole Animashaun and Dele Sobowale the eminent columnists of Vanguard, started running their critique on OBJ, every Sunday more than three years ago, where were you?

When Wole Soyinka opposed the candidacy of OBJ in 1993, when he was being considered for an international post with the United Nations, where were you? When the same Soyinka also opposed OBJ's anti-people activities during his regime, where were you?

When several other writers from the South-West, in their letters to the Editors of various newspapers came out openly to condemn the antics of the president, where were you?

sukieboy:
Nigerians refer to the people that inhabit the River banks and the adjourning land of the Cross River estuary and creeks as "Calabars". They are the most hospitable people in Nigeria and even in African.
They are the most civilized by Culture and nature. WHat Nigerians call "The Calabar" comprise many ethnic nationalities (Ibibios, Orons, Efiks, Quas, Efuts, Anangs, yakurs,Mbembes,Ekoi, Ekets etc) with common heritage and ancestral roots  traceable to Central/southern African settlements with strong stains of ancient Egyptian residence and civilization.

They hosted the first Capital of Nigeria with great humility, that others are taking for granded and even  calling them names. A typical Calabar family always keep a spare room in their  home for visitors. Good food (Afang, Edikang Ikong, Ekpang iwe, iwuk abia, editan, Atama, Ndehi Iyak, Ifop Iwa, etc etc.) and hospitality (Ntimkama, uwem do ke TINAPA) abound and cannot be rivalled across africa.

Most loyal to friends, and loving to enemies. Always willing to help others in need. Peace loving even enough to loose their ancestral home (Bakassi) to the camerouns without violence, what a great people.

They have crude oil , yet no violence of any kind. they have taken to hardwork and enterprise to project the destiny of their land and not wait for oppressive (Major) majorities of the Nigerian state. No wonder they have excelled in so many ways above even the so called majorities by producing the first Plice IG Louis Edet, first commisioned Nigerian army officer (Sir Wellinton Bassey), first Governor of Central Bank (Dr. Clement Isong), first Nigerian Lawyer to be called to the queen's counsel and English Bar (late Chief Ebito) , Ministers, Governors, Teachers, etc etc.

Though, fourth largest Ethnic nationality in Nigeria, no one cares about their plight in the Nigerian state.

Like Udeme (Guiness TV Advert) there is a drop of GREATNESS in every CALABAR MAN!!!! smiley smiley smiley
Hehehe, I agree with you jare, to a large extent!

From the little I have seen, their food is delicious, they are ever so willing to serve, they are quite courteous, highly respectful, decent and they hardly ever throw their weight around. Most of the Calabar people I have met, have been wonderful!! grin  grin

I did not know that you came from over 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria except Igbos. Good luck. I was referring to Yorubas since you defended Yoruba issues in relation to Lagos and land ownership.
Next time, don't assume. Ask. And please try not to jump to the wrong conclusions, like your friend Donzman often does. Just because I defended one ethnic group, (and if you check my posts, I have defended other groups, too!) or because I highlighted some facts concerning a particular area, does not mean I have my roots in that area. And if your reference to 'coming from 250 ethnic groups', was meant to be sarcastic, or was written in order to cause some embarrassment, then sorry, your tactics didn't succeed.

Investing in all nooks and crannies will make  every Tom , Dick and Harry equal opportunity investors and losers in times of tribal conflicts. Would an Igbo man  destroy an investment that belongs to Hausa man when he knows that his brother’s investment in Kano is on the line? I don’t believe that Nigeria will be one, but we can co-habit and co-exist freely. Americans have their racial divisions, so Nigeria is not different, but there has to be equity and fairness.
When investments are destroyed in times of tribal conflicts, it is often done by people who do not care what their brother owns in another part of the country. Rational thought rarely comes into play when such things happen. Usually, those carrying out such wanton destruction are motivated by hate, ignorance and anger. 'Who owns what,' is hardly ever the question in their minds. However, I agree with you on one point. i.e. we can co-habit and co-exist freely. And it will only happen, if people work towards achieving this goal, not just sit around and grumble about it.

adconline:
Nigeria is not ready to heal the wound of the war. 3Rs were not followed to the later. Igbos have moved on, but there must equality of stakes if Nigeria wants to move, instead, Nigeria still runs on tribal lines. Presidency, university admissions, appointment of board chairmen, federal character commission, national awards, appointment of SANs etc
If everyone had this mind-set that everything ran along tribal lines, then nobody would strive to achieve anything. We shouldn't fold their arms & give up, just because some things are run along tribal lines. What we should ask is "what can be done to change the status quo?" We shouldn't just sit & grumble about it.

My views on the Presidency are long, but there isn't enough time to articulate it. When it comes to university admissions though, I still believe that excellence is the name of the game. If your scores are high (not borderline o!), please note: merit comes into play. It is usually when people have poor scores that issues like catchment area, quota etc. now arise.

There was a year in a particular university my cousin attended up north, that the highest JAMB scorer was offered admission by all the three universities he had picked as 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice. No one remembered where he came from, everyone just wanted him in their school, because he was a star performer. It was much later, everyone realised he was a Kalabari guy! But it didn't matter to anyone, because he had already gotten his admission.

adconline:
Still  telling us to believe that Rufai made a mistake in front of  PDP South East caucus,  I rather stick with El Rufai’s  figures than yours. Are you saying that Nigeria had 31 states in late 70’s when Abuja was decreed as Nigeria’s new capital?
Feel free to believe El-rufai's figures. Stick with it, afterall the disparity isn't that wide. But there is a little correction I must make here. Nigeria had 19 states in 1976, by the time a new capital was being created. If the results of the 1973 census which was used as the basis for planning were to be believed, then 'according to the returns submitted, the north contained 64 percent of the total population, compared with 53.7 percent in 1963 census.'

If you follow the pattern of state creation in Nigeria closely, from 1967 when a 12 state structure was in place, to 1976 when 7 more states were added to make the total number of states 19, you will see that this population size has been replicated for the North. In 1989, the 19 states were increased to 21, before finally becoming 30 states in 1991. By 1996, they had become 36 states. Most of the land in Abuja was shared out in this proportion, among all the states.

Ogbemudia did good for Igbos in Bendel, even at that my grandfather did not get his properties at Sapele back. LOTS of Igbos lost properties all over Nigeria
Post the evidence & the links, and stop relying on hearsay. The days of rabid propaganda are over. You obviously didn't own one single piece of property in the South-west before the war, so stop trying to puff as if you had anything on the ground that was taken from you. Rubbish!

Do I hate Yorubas as human beings? Hell no. Do I hate their pretencious and hypocritical way of life? Yes. And that is the essence of my seeming anger with them. Now this idiot and half-baked (evident in his very poor communication skill) Majamaja has proven me right on why I should not let the Yoruba bastards run away with their fake way of life.

Yorubas are the ones who  mix sand with cement and rebag same to make cheap profit. That is why houses fall in Lagos almost everyday. Several people were caught in Ogun state and they confessed to that.

They are the ones who do rituals as part of their culture (Ogboni, Oro, gbomogbomo, etc). If you doubt this you have not lived in Yorubaland.

They are the ones who have shown crass incompetence (compare Yoruba ministers and Igbo/Hausa ministers between 1999-2007).

They are the ones who do fake visa and commit 419 in London and other crimes in the US. They have since taken over from the Igbo in 419. If you doubt me, visit EFCC website and see the list of wanted criminals. Also, take a quick visit to UI gate (Agbowo, Ibadan) and see how UI students have elevated yahoo! yahoo! I served at IITA Ibadan, so I have one-year experience observing the students there.

They are the biggest drug peddlers of all time. E.g. the one shown on TV who killed Bola Ige; Akindele Ikumoloyi who is now in jail as the biggest baron. Five Nigerians were caught with drug last year in Germany, all of them, Yorubas, mentioned Akindele as the owner of the drug they were ferrying; the big one nicknamed versace who was caught in Ireland last year. Remember the Yoruba actress drug-pusher Wunmi? Whereas men from other tribes are also involved in drug peddling, you will only find Yoruba females doing drugs in Nigeria. That is their main specialisation. The three drug pushers hanged by Buhari in 1984 are all Yorubas.

For more info, google ''Akindele Ikumoloyi and drug'' and ''Versace the Nigerian drug baron''. You will see who is who in drug peddling.

Yorubas are the ones who elevated use of juju in the offices to undo one another. I have been a victim in 2003 when my seat was dusted with juju powder. They talk to expat bosses at IITA with juju in their mouth, thereby forcing them to promote them even when they are incompetent.

They are the ones who breed touts and deadly area boys in Lagos.

They are the ones who could not make any meaningful impact after leading Nigeria for 8 years.

They are the main parasites who cannot do without the oil from my backyard.

I have a catalogue of woes bestowed on Nigeria by the Yoruba, and I will not hesitate to unearth them. Bunkum.
And you still want everyone to believe that you don't hate Yorubas as human beings?  huh Kai!

Gosh, all that bile must be choking you. If someone else were to drag up all the names of crooked businessmen and politicians from your own side of the Niger, and do a little comparison, in terms of criminal behaviour and bad performance, don't you think things would deteriorate very rapidly on this board?? huh

You keep bringing the Igbo into disrepute, with this kind of behaviour. It is so sad, that you can't even think straight! undecided

Loan me a dictionary? This coming from a boy who cannot distinguish between "am" and "i'm" - let's not get into that.
A woman won't let you drive your own f.ucking car, because she is stingy? lololol, good lord, are you daft.
Isn't it "his" car, after all? they're supposed to be a couple fool, being stingy doesn't excuse the act.
"Am" or "I'm," isn't the issue at stake here, unless you want to split hairs. Anyway, thanks for the grammar lesson. The woman is stingy, because she is trying to hoard the fuel she bought into the car, even though it is his car. And the fact that your friend allowed her to get away with it, (especially since it is his own car), proves that he is emotionally immature. Period. No one is "excusing" the act. Kindly read my previous post again. And there is no need to resort to name-calling. Using words like 'daft', 'fool' etc. merely reveals the low-grade mentality of the speaker or writer, if you prefer.

fekuti:
A simple observation of human behavior would also reveal to you that older women are more likely to exploit younger guys than older men with younger girls.
Why are you so hung up on this age thing? Exploitation and manipulation are character traits, that occur in people irrespective of their age or gender. You claim "older women are more likely to exploit younger guys than older men with younger girls." That is not strictly true. Only gullible and/or greedy people are exploited. Being gullible, is a mind-set. Exploitation also has to do with who holds power over the other. If a man is a good provider for the family who doesn't depend on the wife for residency or daily bread, he holds the power, irrespective of wether his wife is older or not!

fekuti:
What is so tangible about your vocabulary, ehn? numskull, I used your words as a way to disprove your buggy logic.

We're not debating right or wrong here, we're talking about the issues that may arise as a result of the chosen scenario, don't be an idiot
So do I, you don hear?
What little world are you living in? lololol(sorry I had to borrow your vocabulary again, don't cry)
This happens, el grande.
Again you feel the need to delve into the realm of insults to make a point. How sad. Your choice of words like 'numskull, simpleton, idiot etc.' says a lot about the kind of person you are and the quality of thoughts you have stored up in your mind, if this is all that can come out of it. Shame!

If there was nothing tangible about my vocabulary, you wouldn't have borrowed it. I'm not complaining, so stop sweating! tongue

fekuti:
Even gan paapa, if the guy loves his woman as you stated, why chooseth he to come here and ask if dating a woman 3 years older than he is, is okay?
perhaps a little insecurity there, se you see it?
I don't need to ask, view the thread yourself, what I'm asking you to do is respond to the double-standard on dating/love.
Why don't you direct your questions to the person who made the original post? Why should I respond to a double-standard on dating or love, when I wasn't the one who made it an issue? There are different strokes for different folks. What may matter to one person, may not matter to the next. Simple. That was why I pasted the story of my tall neighbour, and her shorter husband.

fekuti:
The guy chooses to date a woman older than himself, you claim love conquers all, the chick claims she doesn't want a shortie, then what?
Why don't you go on there and start condemning them, let's leave that one.
Why should I condemn them? Is it my business who Mr. A chooses to fall in love with, or who Mrs. B chooses to marry? Don't they have eyes & brains? Am I the one going to live with them?

fekuti:
Assuming you're 25 by the way, you shouldn't have any problems with handling a 47-year-old woman, I hope you fall in love with one.

3-years isn't that big a difference by the way, it ain't bad at all ya heard me, but age does matter, agree or not.
the greater the age difference between the two lovebirds, the greater the possibility of manipulation by one of the parties.
Point of correction, I'm not 25. I don't know what gave you the idea. So kindly stick to the facts. Who I choose to marry, will be my business and mine alone. And as for manipulation, go and conduct some more research into this area. It has very little to do with age, and more to do with attitude, power play and frame of mind. Go figure!

lol, very nice response "stingy" - your man needs his car and you won't give him the keys because you're stingy.no, you don't have to jump to conclusions.
Yeah, the word is 'stingy.' Am sure you know what it means. And you are right I don't know your friend. But a clear look at the story you shared, shows that the lady did not deny him the keys to the car, because she was older than him, (at least you didn't say those were her initial remarks!), she did so, because she was stingy. And I didn't need to conduct any research, or plot any results into any chart. A simple observation of human behaviour, would make you arrive at the same conclusion. Its' funny though, to see you quoting my words back at me, because it shows you do not have such a large vocabulary, so you feel the need to borrow some of mine. Feel free, if it makes you happy. regardless of your perspective/twist, women dating younger men is non-conventional, it's usually the other way around smiley

I already shared with you the ones I see.
Yeah, you can only share what you see in your own little world. It doesn't mean it does not happen elsewhere. A woman dating a younger man may be non-conventional in your eyes, but it doesn't mean it is wrong, bad or that such a relationship cannot work. And for your information, conventions DO change. In every society. So don't continue living in the past.

fekuti:
emotional maturity ain't the question here.
if you say the man's vulnerable, then make your case I'll agree with you, but don't sit there shouting emotional maturity.Bias. I hope you date a woman that's 10 years older than you by the way.  Just for the sake of trying it out, come back and share your experience.
If vulnerable is the way you choose to see it, then that's your own call. I see it as a lack of emotional maturity, and last time I checked, I had the right to my own views.

If a man has a strong sense of self-worth, a legit income, he fends for himself & his family, has a strong sense of self-esteem,doesn't depend on his wife for daily bread, treats all around him with respect and sincerity, I find it hard to see how a woman he married with his own money, would stand up to disrespect him simply because she is 'older'. Older, my foot. Why can't she take her old age back to her father's house? Why did she marry him in the first place & how come he did not see the signs that she would disrespect him on account of the age difference, before he married her?

I have met several couples with older & younger wives. Age has very little to do with how a woman treats a man. I have seen younger women treat their husbands like trash, and vice versa, while I have also seen older women treat their husbands with respect, maturity, love & understanding.

fekuti:
Your speculation is about as wayward as mine, so let's keep it up.
It's so damn funny how these principles of love tend to change so dramatically.  Since love is so age-blind, and love-driven, how come we have women saying they wouldn't want men shorter than they are? ehn?  I thought if you love the guy it shouldn't matter, right?
Ask those who gave answers as to why they wouldn't marry a shorter guy.

I have seen tall women marrying shorter guys & vice versa. An example is a neighbour of mine. The wife is about 6ft 2, while the husband is a mere 5ft 9. To cap it all, the woman looks like a beauty queen. Their marriage is a study in commitment, sincerity & affection. I once asked her why she chose him, when she could have had her pick of any man she wanted.

Her reply was instructive. "When am with him, he makes me feel like am the only woman in the world, that exists. Till today no other man has made me feel this way." They have been married for 11 years with three kids. I rest my case.

well you could also make the same claim about Babangida and Obj, even he was 'selected' by the 'big men' as suitable

but did he dance to IBB's tune? NO.
No, ke? Then why didn't he prosecute IBB for his acts of corruption & misrule, while he was in power? huh

debosky:
I expect the same from Yar'Adua - he will be his own man.
Well, we all sincerely hope so. Its' still too early to tell, sha. tongue

I am a beneficiary of UPN good education in the second republic so i know what i am talking about.
So am I. But I will not agree that because of this, the Yorubas are more educated than other ethnic groups. A lot has changed now. Tuition was free in those days, and a few essential text books were also given to pupils free of charge, too. It didn't matter where you came from. As long as you were in a public school funded by the state govt. in a South-western state, you were entitled to it. In fact, that programme should have been continued in all states as well as at the federal level, and shouldn't have been limited to the South-west UPN states alone.

During the sixties, when the regional governments held sway, and the old Mid-western region was still a part of the former Western region, even the area populated by the Delta-Igbo in the former Mid-West benefited from the free education programme of the late Chief Awolowo, in those days.

What I have said is a statement of facts. We, the Yoruba are the most educated, enlightened and developed tribe in Nigeria (even in Africa). Talk of any profession one or more of my tribeman has and is excelling.
Let them call me Tribalist (BUT POLITICAL LIBERAL), infact that is what I am. I am proud and bold about my Yoruba origin anytime, anyday anywhere. I do not have any apology for that.
Please My Dear Mr. Akolawole, please proud and bold about your Yoruba Origin.

Being a Tribalist, does not mean I have to support injustice that might have been caused or being caused by my fellow tribeman against any other tribe i.e. i will never support OBJ 3rd term, Never.

Injustice to ONE is Injustice to ALL.
Most educated, enlightened and developed tribe?? What kind of ethnic superiority mantra are you propagating? Are you trying to say other tribes are less educated, less enlightened and less developed? Be careful. No tribe is superior to the other!!

Excellence is not a tribal trait, neither does it have a tribal gene. So what the heck are you talking about?? huh

The sad thing is that if the Nigerian govt subsidized Petrol like countries like Venezuela, you would see Nigerians illegally exporting that to neighbouring countries and then for sure there would be a scarcity
What Nigeria needs is proper law enforcement. Period. The fuel smuggled across the border is not a hidden invisible transaction, it is visible. And like Oshiomole asked once, what has been done to combat it?
