Am sorry to disappoint you, but I wasn't a party agent, even though I knew people who were.

But then I have decided to hold my peace, because I just discovered you were resident abroad.

Now that explains the strange questions & the lame excuse that PDP is such a popular party. Yeah, they are quite popular alright. In rigging!!   angry They foisted an unpopular candidate whose younger brother had unleashed mayhem on the state in Anambra, and then proceeded to Oyo as well as Ondo state, to do the same thing. When people were still trying to understand what was going on, they had repeated the same feat in Rivers State, Kogi & other areas.

One has to hand it to them. A party whose members pay lip service to fighting corruption, installed many of its candidates in positions of power, through corruption!

Erm, were you in Naija at all during the last elections?

At each polling station, each candidate had his party agents present. Each agent and the returning officer, would also be present when the votes were counted and summed up, at the end of the voting period. Now from the total votes counted & the results collated by the returning officers as witnessed by all officials of each party, including the press, various observers & Oshiomole's party at each local government level in Edo state, by that Saturday evening, most party agents had a consensus that the guy was leading in more than two-thirds of the local goverment areas that make up the state. All of a sudden, the results were reversed. And you think there was no foul play?? Kai!

In fact, up till the week before the elections, very few people knew who Osunbor was, even though he was the PDP governorship aspirant for the state!

Please let me stop here, because that election in Edo state was nothing, but daylight rigging or should we call it robbery??!  tongue

Family › Re: Is It Possible To Marry A Poor Guy? by laudate: 5:34pm On May 18, 2007
There is nothing wrong with getting married to a poor guy, provided he has a lot of potentials, is hard-working, sincere, understanding, respectful & not a layabout. A man who is poor today, can become rich tomorrow. God has a particular destiny for each individual.

The problem is that many poor men who swear undying love to a babe when they are broke, have a tendency of changing their minds, once they become rich.   tongue That is when they know that a babe who was with them when things were rough, has suddenly grown 'old,' or is no longer good enough for them, now that they have some quid in their pocket. Why? They have suddenly discovered that their newly-acquired riches, gives them more options. And they wish to explore those options to the full. That is often where the problem begins.  angry

A lot of babes now know that guys are prone to change their minds once they hit the big bucks, so many of them are scared of hanging around a poor guy, who would most likely change his mind about them once riches come into play. So some of these girls have opted to go with a guy who has a steady, legit source of income, so that they can at least deduce what kind of character he is, or what antics he has up his sleeves, instead of hanging with a poor guy who will promise them heaven & earth when he is broke, only to change his mind when he becomes rich. undecided Please note: am not saying a rich guy can't change his mind, about a babe.

Money is the true test of a man's character. It is when a guy has money in his pocket, that his innate character begins to unfold. The way a guy handles money, says a lot about the kind of person he is.

But having said all that, riches are inanimate stuff & money has wings, according to the Scriptures. If as a woman, you marry a man who has money today, what happens if he loses his wealth tomorrow? Would you divorce him? Isn't it better to build up your own wealth or resources, so that you have something to fall back on, rather than waiting for a man to provide everything for you?

I have said it before~the emergence of Yar'adua as the presidential candidate of PDP was a seriously flawed process! The so called elections which they say led to his emergence is another story,we need not rehash again. He reminds of Shagari~inspiring, dull, docile, rustic and it's a shameful again that we not only cannot conduct an accurate fair census,we have proven indeed to the whole world that we are a nation beset by fraud,in love with fraud!
PDP is synonymous with roguery and banditry and this was clearly manifest during the last elections~ballot papers were dumped in S/Africa and still Yar'adua constitutionally did not meet the provisions of winning the elections!
For myself hes not my leader~period!I would not be part of any whitewashing or illegality~the premise that he should be supported is very wrong~rather admonished and castigated for going along with this charade!

a lot of posts on this thread reek of intolerace and dictatorship. the truth remains that these people have been pushed to the extreme. they act out of ignorance and illiteracy which stems from the neglect they have suffered for all these years. lets call a spade a spade!
So does hostage-taking solve the problem??   undecided

They have been kidnapping foreign oil workers for a few years now & collecting the ransom money, yet they have nothing to show for all the money they have received.  angry

The few companies that want to establish communication services, or embark on some kind of development in the area, are harrassed or chased away. How will unemployment in the Delta reduce, if they keep chasing away those who wish to do business in the area, or if they keep kidnapping their workers or destroying their equipment?  huh

One way is to attract businesses & development to the area and negotiate with the companies operating there, to ensure their lands are not polluted or that remedial measures to end such pollution are implemented. Another method would be to provide world-class infrastructure with all the ransom monies they have collected, till date. Then they would put the government to shame.

We are talking about women getting pregnant with no intention of being married here. Husband does not even come into play here at all.
How many women actually on their own, wake up & decide to get pregnant with NO intention of being married? I haven't met any. I have met those who were in a long-term relationship, which they thought would lead to marriage but never did, unfortunately they got pregnant & decided to keep the baby. Due to curious looks from friends, family & neighbours, they chose to put on a brave face & damn the gossip, by acting as if it was a good omen or a 'planned' thing. In their private moments, a lot of them shed secret tears & wish in their heart of hearts, that things could have turned out differently. Don't let their tough talk fool you. sad

Another group of single mothers are those who were also in long-term relationships, but had fertility problems. Out of the blues, they got pregnant & unfortunately, the guys in question who were not ready to be men, took to their heels. What would you expect such a girl to do in that situation?

A neighbour of mine dated a guy for 5 years, but she had fibroids, so conception had always been a problem. Doctors had told her that without surgery, she would never be able to have a kid. The guy she was dating, acted like it wasn't a big deal to him. But suddenly out of the blues, she got pregnant. Guess what he said when she told him: "You are a big girl. Get rid of it!" angry

Ah, omo, she cried for days. She didn't need a soothsayer to tell her that the relationship was over. Her mother told her point blank, not to even think of aborting the baby, as it was a gift from God. Even the doctors were astounded that she eventually got pregnant, despite the large fibroids in her womb. So to cut a long story short, she had the baby. That child is almost six, now.

Did she commit a crime by having the child? Tell me. undecided

Hello laudate, i was beginning to think you only reside on the tribalism thread lipsrsealed
How have you been, girl??!! I've actually been everywhere. How's life treating you?

Got to agree with you that "sometimes, it may be necessary for a woman to take some time off work for family reasons." I have a few female friends who traded in their bank jobs for other less stressful jobs, because it interfered with the time they had for their kids. Before they got those new jobs, they had to stay at home for a while. wink

One of them actually swopped her position as a high-flying branch manager of a new-generation bank, to become an English teacher in posh, private school in Lagos. She took a pay-cut, but admits it is worth it. As a teacher she closes from work at 2:00p.m & gets to spend more time with her family, unlike when she was a banker who regularly closed from work at 9:30p.m at night, including Saturdays! The key word, I believe, is balance. smiley

But with entrepreneurs, I have discovered that sometimes you even have to put in more hours in your business, than you would do in a regular job, in order to get such an enterprise off the ground!

Na wa o! Did those single women claim that the men who got them pregnant were ready, able & willing to marry them, but they were the ones who refused to get married??  huh

There have been cases where a man dates a woman, she gets pregnant by mistake (despite the use of contraceptives), and the man turns round to start talking in tongues about how 'a baby wasn't part of their plan, bla bla' before he now absconds! What is the woman to do in such a case? Hold a gun to his head & drag him to the altar?  undecided

Some women who have been caught in this kind of unsavoury situation, often choose to make the best out of it, by opting to stay on their own & take care of the baby by themselves, instead of opting for an abortion. Afterall, na one man reject them, no be God.   undecided

And no matter how you look at it, a lot of single Nigerian men often hesitate when it comes to marrying single mothers! Some of them will even claim "that 'chassis,' unattached babes without hand luggage (i.e. babies) full market," so why should they take on a single mother as a wife?

Hi all,

I am back from the trip to my ex. I spend about five days with which three days were intensive talking about the ultimatum he gave me. It was very hard to come to a conclusion however as I mentioned in my previous post that I came to a decision. I was still doubting a lot whether I made the right one.
chichimma:
On the third day of my visit I told him that I don't want to continue with him simply because I am not in love anymore and that I have changed and felt that we have grown apart. I believe I made the right decision after so many years. There is thing about love . You need it in every relationship it is one of the driving forces that keeps it going. At one point in the relationship the 'in love' converts into 'love' nothing wrong with that but you need the 'in love' ( at least I do) to create the foundation of relationship.

Since the 'in love' was years ago and so many things happened along the line. I feel that I can't give myself again.

What do you think about my decision and point of views?
You did well, Chi. For some people, letting go is a hard thing & they try to post-pone the evil day for so long, yet it still doesn't work out. If he had wanted deep down to marry you all this while, he would have done so ages ago, instead of drifting back & forth into this 'on & off' relationship with you.

Hold your head high & pray that he finds happiness with someone else. Maybe, one day when all is said & done, a new friendship (not an affair), could spring up between you both. Who knows the future, but God?

Politics › Re: Femi Fani-kayode Doing A Good Job At The Ministry Of Aviation by laudate: 11:28am On May 18, 2007
zexyworm:
4) Kayode's unprofessionalism went further, he criticised European carriers in the media about spraying their cabins with insecticides prior to takeoff, saying they treated Nigerians "like animals". Again, any professional in the aviation industry would know that insecticide spraying is an ICAO requirement for flights to/from and within infectious disease areas including Asia and South America.
Insecticide spraying may be an ICAO requirement, but where does it say that such insecticides should be sprayed while passengers are still on board?? If you have ever taken a transatlantic flight outside Nigeria, you will realise that such spraying or fumigation is carried out several hours before boarding. By the time passengers board those flights, no one can even detect the odour! So why should the international airlines do it differently, in Nigeria?

zexyworm:
5) When we thought his ignorance had bounds, he went further to attack foreign airlines for increasing their flight frequencies to Nigeria, despite the fact that most countries have signed open-skies agreements for the benefit of consummers and travellers.
The open skies agreement is also based on reciprocity. A lot of western countries do not have an equivalent number of Nigerian airlines flying into their own airports from Nigeria, yet, they want to have only their own airlines conducting more flights from their own capitals, into Nigeria. Why? It is a highly lucrative business for them. If for example, the UK would allow our own local airlines to fly into Stanstead, Heathrow & Gatwick six times a week, then we would have no problems allowing their own airlines like British Airways, Virgin Atlantic etc., to conduct the same number of flights into Nigerian airports. Shikena! This was part of the things that the late Fred Agbeyegbe criticised, before he was shot.

zexyworm:
6) Rather than shut up and fix the rotting airports and runways, he took pleasure in attacking British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and others, for treating Nigerians "like dirt" - when clearly those same carriers HIRED Nigerian cabin crew and provided job opportunities for hundreds of Nigerians.
Take a British Airways flight from Lagos to London, and take another flight on the same airline from London to New York, then come back and tell us the difference! From the common courtesies extended to you by British Airways staff at the counters to the treatment on board, you will notice that Nigerians are poorly treated on the Lagos-London-Lagos route, compared to passengers on the London-New York return route, despite the fact that the London-New York fare is much cheaper than the Lagos-London route.

I stopped flying British Airways & switched to SwissAir, after being on the receiving end of consistently shoddy in-flight & boarding services. Even when it came to booking on line, the British Airways crew refused to allow Nigerians in London to pay for their flights on line, between 1999-2002, until our people threatened to boycott their services in England.

I agree that Femi Fani-Kayode talks a lot, is probably rude etc. And I also believe that the state of our airports is important and must be fixed as a matter of priority. But quite frankly after Nigerians have spent their hard-earned money to book a flight, if any one decides to help them fight for better services in the airline industry, I feel that person should be commended, wether he is garrulous or not! tongue
Romance › Re: Date A Guy For 2 Years And Not A Single Gift by laudate: 6:12pm On May 17, 2007
Seems the original poster is complaining of something much deeper than the lack of a gift.

Giving a gift usually signifies something. It could mean the guy is thinking of the babe & wants to make her happy, by getting her an item that would bring a smile to her face. Or it could mean he is feeling guilty & wants to pacify her with a gift.

A gift doesn't necessarily have to be expensive. It could be as little as a 400 naira recharge card, or even a small piece of chocolate. Boli & guguru can also be gifts!

Anyone who is truly in love with another person, will always look after that person's interests & possibly, needs. To ignore the feelings of a person you claim to love, or not to even do little things to make them happy, will cast doubts in their minds, about the intensity of the affection you claim to feel for them.

Try & understand. Am not saying that relationships should be based on gifts. But an ability to bring a smile to the face of your loved ones, either with a card, a small token or a momento, goes a long way in spicing up the relationship. It doesn't have to be a regular occurence. If a man or woman lacks the resources to give a gift, it can be excused, but not when such a person has the means or ability to do so, but just doesn't give a damn. A lack of such initimate caring or giving gestures, implies that the guy or girl is self-centred, stingy & selfish.

Such attitudes tend to cripple a relationship, in the long run, instead of enhancing it.
