Just to correct the OP. PSW VISA will be phased out in April 2012 and not April 2011.

Now to my 2 cents. With Tier 1 General (formerly Highly skilled Migrant programme) being closed in April 11 and PSW Visa phasing out in Aril 12, the chance of a prospective student getting into the UK labour market after graduation is just too slim. You can only get a company to file for a work permit for you and except you possess extra ordinary personal and intellectual talents mehn no chance, If you're not prepared to return to Nigeria straight after your studies. Then go somewhere else. US/Canada/NZ

nnaiah:
TERP10 is not a module.

it is an integration of about sixteen different modules.

It is the integration and administration of different modules and not the implementation of sixteen different modules.
you are right nnaiah.

SAP Certification Training 'TERP10' is not a module. it is the entry level SAP solution consultant certification course which focuses on how the fundamental integrative business processes interact within SAP ERP, including: Procurement, Manufacturing, Planning, Project Management, SD, CRM, Enterprise Asset Management, Fi,CO, HR/Human Capital Management etc. Its just the foundation for understanding business process integration, and how they r linking. Scorpio1 did it. I should be doing it next year too. God dey!

Disclaimer. This certfication does not make you a consultant, infact its basic. I 'm sure Scorpio1 can testify to that. but its a good foundation for any one hoping to become an SAP functional or technical consultant.

Cosmass:
i have been done with my undergrad and planning on doing my masters. Would it be a good idea to come back home to serve and return abroad to continue my studies?
Cosmass, really nice Topic.

I was in your shoes last year thinking of what to do as well. I was thinking of doing NYSC, but I later decided to work for a year or two first, do masters, go back to 9ja for NYSC and start job hunting in 9ja.

Now to my 2cents.

It all depends on your circumstances. You have to go back and serve either now or after masters if you looking to work in Nigeria anytime soon or if you don't have a settled(indefinite leave to remain) status wherever you are be it US/UK. This is because employers in nigeria will ask for your NYSC discharge certificate when you apply for jobs in 9ja. Otherwise, Just chill dearie, its of no value to you over there really, if your not looking to settle or work in 9ja anytime soon.

Hope this helps.

Thats true ooo, so of my friends that Graduated from here in the UK, were posted to Kaduna and Oyo state. It sucks big time! Gone are the days when you could choose Lagos or Abuja alone

Elpieda:
Hi All,

I am loving this thread beacause I was in the shoes of a lot of you in 2008. It took a while to get admitted into a school and I finally gained admission into a school in Texas to do a Masters in Accounting, My visa interview was a miracle, I had never left the country before even for holidays so people kept telling me I may be rejected, I took all the required documents and here is how the intervie went, The interview was on Dec 24, 2008 but I still remember it so clearly.
CO: Hey how are you doing
Me: I am doing good and you?
CO: So u want to do a masters in Accounting
Me: Yes
CO: Can I see your bank statement
Me: (I give it to him, he looks at it for 10 seconds)
CO: Have u ever left the country before
Me: Not at all (Smiling from ear to ear)
CO: Come get your visa next week and he gives me a card

he dint ask for any other document besides my bank statemen and the interview dint last up till 2 minutes, I kept saying maybe he liked my face but it was a miracle and a testimony,

Now almost two years after, I am done with my masters degree, I got a job with a bank immediately i graduated and i am currently working here in texas and doing really good

SO if any of you have any questions especially about the journey through schoola nd finding a job on campus and all, I can help out with your questions, While I was in school I worked as an admissions officer so I know a whole lot about admissions, So ask the questions and I will be glad to help in anyway I can

@chiagozom, Congratualtions and i get my cheapest flights through this website www.kayak.com
Elpieda, really glad to read your success story. Those are great words of encouragement, Very Inspiring.  Grad school in the US is definitely a wise choice.

@ Bebure, good to know you're settling down there. One of my attends louisiana state Uni, and he doesn't really like there, he his thinking of transfering to Texas. Louisiana is a cheap place to live in, well  according to him. Hope you gon love it though. All the best man.

I was told that it will hold and we have till at least 3rd week in October to apply. They are slow in updating their website and they dont until the batch is ready to go for camp nd then they will bring out the schedule etc. And yes, forget about what their website says, foreign students still get to choose!

yea thats true, they very slow in updating their mediocre website, I hope so too Hotstepper, things are gonna get messy, if we can't choose where to serve. Where r u planning to attend orientation camp?

To those already on F-1 Visa in the US,

whats the real deal anyway?

I ve been informed by good friends on F-1 status that both Postgrad students and undergrad students cannot work off campus in the USA (F1 status requirement), Unlike UK where you are allowed to work off campus and make some £££ but with limited hours (i know this because I did bachelors in UK). Is this truely the case in the states? if so, is this the case everywhere in the states? or dependent on school or state?. US schools out of state tuition is jst ridiculous,   I m just curious how you guys survive in the US without been able to work off campus esp wiv huge tuition and fees, coz i m very sure on campus jobs will be too cmpetitive especially in schools wiv loads of int'l students. Can you guys shed more light on these please so prospective students interested in US study could be better informed, know reality and plan their finance in advance.

Most cheap US universities are in Minnesota and North Dakota according my research. Many of them offer in-state tuition to international students.

Congratulations on your visa.

Typically they only give 2yrs and you would have to renew your visa if you want to extend it. But they didn't make a mistake.

Can you share experience?

Hello folks,
let me start by expressing my sincere appreciation to the contributors to this thread, (especially Kenzema) who have kept it as one of the most useful and mature threads on the nairaland forum. In my honest opinion this is the most useful source on obtaining the US student visa in Nigeria.

I obtained my US student visa last month in Lagos. My interview wasn't too eventful (it didn't seem so, as it was over in less than 5 minutes!), so I don't have much to write, but here's how it went.

Me: Good afternoon sir
Interviewer: Good afternoon sir. Why do you want to go to America?
Me: For graduate studies at Harvard University
Interviewer: Graduate studies at Harvard University?
Me: Yes
I: Did you apply to any other university?
M: Yes. Boston University.
I: Is there any particular reason why your schools are both in the Boston area?
M: Umm. Well, I like the area because it's a university area and ,  (I actually had no reason, and was just fumbling. And then I remembered something, ) There really isn't any strong reason. I also applied to Pittsburgh and was rejected by them, I could show you the letter.
I: Never mind. Do you have any relatives in the US?
M: Yes, a cousin. But we really aren't that close
(Another mistake. I shouldn't have mentioned the 2nd part until he asked any further question!)
I: What are you going to study in the United States?
M: Public Health?
I: Are you a doctor?
M: Yes
I: You're a doctor. Where do you work sir?
M: (I mention place)
I: How do you intend to pay
M: Internal university funding
I: Sorry?
M: Internal university funding
I: As in like a scholarship?
M: Yes, a combination of a scholarship and a loan
I: Can  I see a letter
M: I show him the letters, he already had checked out the I-20
The interviewer then starts typing something into a computer for what seems like forever; I try and relieve my tension by taking a long look around the interview hall.
Finally,
I: Ok. One thing. When you are making your travel plans, make sure you travel within 30 days to the date on the I-20, but no later than it.
good luck in your plans sir.
M: Thank you sir. Goodbye

I wish all nairalanders success in their interviews!
