We are basically saying the same thing. They all keep saying things are cheaper in Nigeria but non of them are taking affordability of the said things into account.

By virtue of affordability and purchasing power, I think Nigeria is one of the most expensive countries in the world
It boils down to almost the same thing. In Nigeria a minimum wage earner will spend almost everything on food whereas in high income countries a minimum wage earner will spend almost everything on rent

The average Nigerian graduate today has a degree not worth the paper it is printed on. A few exceptions do not nullify the rule. Again that the best go abroad and do well does is not an indicator that every graduate left in Nigeria is sound. Again like I said it is the best that tend to migrate and it is not every one that excels. You hear a few stories and you say excel. How many are actually excelling? Excel means to stand out! Not to say Nigerians abroad are not doing well but you are using the word “excel” very loosely here!

Perhaps you need a quick check of the definition of excel. Capable, up to the task, is not excelling. Who are these Nigerians excelling? They are less than 0.1% of the Nigerians abroad. Not to say they are not capable or intelligent but don’t overdo it.
Our universities are producing more graduates than the economy can absorb. That is what is true. It is not true that the average Nigerian MBBS, LLB, BSc etc are not worth the paper they are written on.
Everybody is trying to go abroad and if you had a first class, then you will probably go on scholarship. That is the position but there are still many bright people with good grade in the country and there are many with average grade that left.
Among the people I went to university with, the most successful are based in the country

I see you are a grammar Nazi but I did not use the word excel at all

Are you sure? I think they already got approval for a drone refuelling station. That is a kind of base already. If the government allows them, how do you plan to stop them or remove them?

Churches have millions of tithe paying members. Public money no accountability, private jets, huge mansions. Controlling millions of people like cattle. It can't exist side by side a real government

It is good when a country shows genuine concern towards other friendly country... such is the case of USA towards the mass killings in Nigeria... But as I earlier stated... there is no need of USA physical presence through their military in Nigeria... it may escalate the violence...

If US military support is required by the Nigerian government... and the use of drones is vital... the US military can use their aircrafts carrier ships... with permission to be at a very far distance from Nigeria shore... this can be coordinated by the Nigerian Navy...

Let's not start what we can not continue... behind US military request... China, France, Russia, Britain, Turkey... would follow suit to demand similar offer using different disguise...

What Nigeria needs from friendly nations... is to seize wealth stolen by corrupt officials domiciled in their country... and jail these corrupt officials whenever they visit their country....

Therefore... there is no need of any foreign country ground base station in Nigeria... RENAISSANCE
I believe most Nigerians support the base. It should be a full fledged base. Enough of the stupidity. What are your grievances against a permanent US base in Nigeria? Why do you oppose it?

It’s simple English. The vast majority of our best professional brains who actually practice their profession do so abroad. The majority of the top students of my generation particularly the technical subjects like engineering and medicine left after graduation, many of them are still abroad. Those who stayed behind were mostly the mediocre a the dull ones. The vast majority of the few who stayed went into the private sector multinationals like the shell, schlumberger etc of which many were further transferred to other countries and remained there. Some went into one business or another often unrelated to their profession. Nigeria turned our brightest into foreign immigrants or hustlers at home.

I remember some years ago when some of us went through the list of those who studied medicine……none of them were in Nigeria. We could not mention 1. With all sense of modesty I was one of the brightest of my generation, I only came back in my 40s after 2 decades abroad. I know my classmates who now occupy certain positions especially in the civil service…they were the dullest! They mainly got those jobs because people like us left the country. They are our classmates, we know them.

I k is the hot students and graduates of my generation. It’s only in subjects like law economics banking etc that you will see they remained in Nigeria or returned quickly after just a few years abroad. Those in technical subjects or sciences left and most did not return. A severe brain drain! So when you hear Nigerians doing things abroad it is because we exported our best in those subjects.

Please read line by line because I know many of you have a problem with English.
You are bringing up another issue entirely again. From one issue to the other. I was pointing out to you that you are wrong that Nigerian professionals are poorly trained because people who have average degrees here go abroad to excel in their post graduate. It was never about if the best people travel out. Yes people with the best grade tend to travel out but some of my friends that had second class upper in oau engineering remained in the country as a lecturer and he is doing well. There are others in the private sector. There are many others with second lower. Some of those who travelled can still come back as they are not necessarily more successful than those here . You can't say people that travelled are the brightest. That is just an opinion. What is certain is that they are not more successful

Anybody can research what was the GDP and per Capita income of Nigeria in 1970 and calculate what twenty pounds was worth. It was certainly close to the per Capita income and it is certainly worth over one million naira today. I have some old books from my grandparents detailing how communities contributed money in the olden days. A whole village or church might do a fund raising of five pounds in the seventies

.

I pointed out the flaw in your argument. But you clearly are another example of those Nigerians who speak English but don’t understand what they read please read again and stop wasting my time.

I didn’t answer your question because some questions don’t need answers. Anyone who lives in Nigeria who has engaged a tailor, cook, tiler, construction worker, spray painter, panel beater etc knows that when it comes to matters that require attention to detail knows that you will get a better quality job from foreign artisans than the typical Nigerian counterpart.

What that means because I know you may have comprehension problems is that if you take a random artisan from say Benin and a random Nigerian Artisan here in Nigeria you are likely to get better quality of work from the foreigner. I have already explained why this is….perhaps you need to read the last post again.

For the sake of your inadequate understanding of English, let me restate it like you are a primary school student.

You are more likely to be killed or misdiagnosed by a Nigerian doctor in Nigeria…we who live here know this. but the average Nigerian doctor abroad is very competent. Same principle. The best tend to migrate if the local economy cannot adequately remunerate them. So having good Nigerian doctors abroad does not equate to Nigeria having good doctors back home, similarly having good foreign artisans in Nigeria does mean (and neither did I say or imply) that all those left in their countries are good. I simply said the ones here are far better than the typical Nigerian artisans here. We benefit from their best who move here just as the Uk and US benefit from our best doctors moving there.

Again you will do well to improve your comprehension skills….again part of the skills problem I speak about…….graduates who don’t understand English. Having power does not make up for graduates who cannot understand simple English. It is when you try to industrialize that you will realize we have been churning our glorified secondary school students with worthless degrees.

Forget artisans, read Nairaland everyday and one weeps!
From artisans are not good enough, you are now saying professionals are not well trained? So Nigerian doctors, engineers and etc do not do well when they go abroad?

Nigerian economy is retrogressive.

If unsure about the UK, try other progressive economies since economic survival (jakpa) is your motive.
You set up a business and look for customers, save your profits, reinvest and expand. Foreigners come here, do it and succeed. What is a retrogressive economy?

nigeria’s life expectancy was low. Most children didn’t get to 1-3 years old. Women gave birth to 10 plus children and few survived to adulthood. Basic illnesses and diseases were sometimes linked to juju. In 1951 life expectancy was 31 in Nigeria
Even in the US what was life expectancy in 1951? If your population is exploding then life expectancy will be low mainly from high infant mortality. Healthcare helps but the main reason for high life expectancy in high income countries is low infant mortality and low fertility rate.
HealthRe: One Reason Why Canadians Live Longer Than Nigerians by lawani(m): 7:24pm On Feb 09
JuanDeDios:
That's still down to socioeconomic and socioenvironmental factors naa. Or you think their babies simply have stronger heads than ours?
The fertility is very low and more or less all their babies survive infancy. That is not the case here thereby greatly reducing the average age people die which is life expectancy

Jesus did not command anything like these, you know. Disciples of Jesus Christ never did anything like these, right? If Jesus in his words and deeds did not command this, nobody ought to have done it. Those people you quoted were not true followers of Jesus since the followers of Jesus Christ were called Christians when people saw the way they followed the teachings and behaviour of Christ.
The founder of the other religion himself was a war lord, Ban dit, woman iser, etc and was referred to as the best of mankind, best example for his followers, and gave command to his followers to vio lently sub jugate the world by converting everybody by for ce or make them pay jiz iah or die. If you are not doing those things, you are not his true followers.
You are right but Jesus was not a Christian but a Jew. He came only for Jews to save only Jews. He once referred to Gentiles as dogs. He had twelve disciples and all were Jews despite that Judea was filled with Gentiles. It was Paul the Apostle that created Christianity and not Jesus. Paul never met Jesus and that maybe why he was confused. It is what Paul created that passed into the hands of the Roman government to become what it later became. It did not happen all at once but in stages

Jesus did not like Gentiles and did not have the motivation to save them
HealthRe: One Reason Why Canadians Live Longer Than Nigerians by lawani(m): 1:17pm On Feb 09
If fertility rate is low as is the case in high income countries then infant mortality will be very low and if infant mortality is very low then life expectancy will be very high. The low life expectancy in Nigeria is as a result of high infant mortality. If ten percent of children die before five years it will bring down the average age at which people die and that is life expectancy. If you remove the effect of infant mortality then the difference in life expectancy among nations will reduce

Selling a big property that you can't acquire in years to pay tuition fees will never be a good idea. However how you got money will determine how you spend it.
You probably have income now and then an extra 22 million. 22 million naira in Nigeria is a lot of money because it can build a house in an average city and interest on it if fixed in a bank can sustain a single person in an average city. It can infact sustain two people. If invested in business and monitored, it can save up to if not more than thirty percent per annum after all expenses depending on the frugality of the business owner.

Go to some state establishments you can't make payment with cash, was in the hospital sometimes ago if you don't have ATM card or can't do transfer would be difficult to access health care no more cash payment. In my region I haven't seen any community connected via solar, do u have this first hand information from your community, are they connected via solar
But you don't have to be connected as a community. If you have solar panels, batteries and inverter then you can be generate your own power and be off grid. There are many like that. However almost half of the population are off grid by being in rural areas with no access to the grid. All these people use solar one way or the other especially to charge their phones and their radios
PoliticsThe Geometric Power Plant In Aba by lawani(op): 11:05am On Feb 09
Aba metropolitan area has around 1.3 million people according to UN data and the Geometric power plant built over twenty years is providing steady power for the whole area. The capacity of the plant is 141MW and it cost 800 million dollars to build. It is a gas fired turbine supplied gas by a 27km gas pipeline.

Going by the population the plant is currently serving, one may posit that twenty of such plants scattered all over the country can go a long way in solving the power problem of the country. They don't all have to be gas fired as there are many options across the country including hydro, solar and etc.

Twenty of such plants will cost sixteen billion dollars if the same design. Gas delivery may be a problem but I believe gas can be delivered by tankers. Natural gas is traded across countries transported by ships, only that pipelines will make it cheaper.

Twenty of such plants together which will be less than 5000 MW in capacity is not enough to power the country adequately but given the population the plant in Aba is serving, it can go some way.

Foreign AffairsRe: Top 30 Countries By Electricity Production Capacity by lawani(m): 9:47am On Feb 09
The list is a better indicator of economy size than nominal GDP because it is electricity that powers industry. Though it can't be accurate but it is better than nominal GDP.

In a place like Nigeria, solar farms, private plants and etc are not included. Millions of homes are now off grid in Nigeria
