danvon: If a monarch can be removed peacefully (without dying) and another appointed in his place, then it is no longer monarchy, at worst oligarchy or at best constitutional monarchy which is basically parliamentary democracy...
And do you think a powerful monarch would enjoy being told what to do, and wouldnt try to play the system to gain/keep more power? He would sit by and let himself be kicked out? Anybody in leadership position should be easily removable. That is the only way leadership can be efficient. Yoruba monarchs were monarchs and they were easily removable. Every town had an Ogboni council and they are the real rulers and they can override the King on any matter. The King is not deferred to during Ogboni meetings. There were Oyo kings that were removed and later recalled. Same in Ijesa. The Kings reigned, made crucial decisions, lived in affluence and etc but they didn't really rule in Yoruba land. The Ogboni were the rulers. They peer reviewed the monarch. You can't leave the leadership of anything important to just one person. In Rome, they had the Senate. In the US today, the CIA can order the President around. If you leave just one head to run a nation what will happen if the person goes insane? There must be peer review |

ChristCee: 1. The "Gap of Benin" Dominance At its zenith, the Oyo Empire did not just control Yorubaland; it effectively controlled the strategic corridor known as the "Gap of Benin." This stretch of savanna allowed the Oyo cavalry (the backbone of its military) to operate freely down to the coast. Westward Expansion: Oyo's influence stretched deep into modern-day Benin Republic and Togo. The Kingdom of Dahomey (a powerful military state itself) was a vassal state to Oyo. Dahomey paid annual tribute to the Alaafin of Oyo from 1730 until the empire's decline in the 1820s. The Coast: Oyo controlled the trade routes leading to the key ports of Ajase (Porto-Novo) and Badagry, giving them a stranglehold on the Atlantic trade in that sector.
2. Vassal States and Tribute The proof of an empire is who pays it taxes. Oyo's imperial power was proven by the list of kingdoms that were forced to pay tribute to the Alaafin: [list] []Allada: conquered and subjugated. Dahomey: forced into vassalage after repeated defeats by Oyo cavalry. Nupe and Borgu: While relations fluctuated, Oyo frequently checked these northern neighbors and maintained influence over the Niger River trade crossings.
3. Military Capacity Oyo was unique in the forest region because it utilized a heavy cavalry force. This allowed it to project power hundreds of miles away from its capital, Oyo-Ile. No other state in the Bight of Benin could match this projection of power, allowing Oyo to police a territory larger than the entire modern United Kingdom.
By the way West Africa at the time is different from West Africa today. Oyo controlled half of the Guinea known as West Africa today 🙌 Oyo also removed the Asantehene of Ghana after the Atakpame war and installed a new one. However by the early 19th century, Abeokuta, Dahomey, Ilorin and etc had become independent |

danvon: For Russia, that very lack of central planning was a key feature of the monarchy, you also didnt mention serfdom, how the vast majority of russians under monarchy were practically not different from a cow.
That part about USA is definitely a lie, USA constitution was anti monarchial, the declaration of independence is a jokingly diss track against King George. For all its flaws USA democracy left it open to self correction, people can protest change, Monarchies dont self correct they crash.
You admit the Qing dynasty had poor state capacity but failed to acknowledge that the weak state capacity was the result of a monarchial system that placed its power in the hands of a concubine and a child.
Napoleon III started out as pro democracy but he slowly shifted to become a monarch which resulted in him being captured and France suffering.
German Kaiser had real power and he used that power to start world war 2, which led to him being overthrown and Germany suffering. Under Bismarck Germany saw its true peak, once he was out, the natural problems of monarchial system took root.
Democracy allows you the option of removing an incompetent or power hungry leader, there is no self correction in monarchies. Once the monarch can be removed by a committee above him or her then there is self correction. The British did not abandon their monarchy at any time and we owe this industrial era to them. Any leader should work under a committee that can sack the person without ceremony. That is what is important |

Meccan women before and after Mohammed
There is the claim by Islam that it is a protector of the women folk. However the reality on the ground says otherwise. When Mohammed was born, Mecca was such a progressive and liberal society that a woman could be a business owner and employer of men. Khadija the older first wife of Prophet Mohammed was a business woman and his employer before they got married. She was forty and he was twenty five.
Khadija was the one that sponsored Mohammed throughout the over ten years that he preached without gaining up to fifty followers
Is there such a woman in Mecca today. Is there such a woman in the Mecca created by Prophet Mohammed?. Is there? I really don't think so |

There are many cases where the priest talks to close relatives of the person it has happened many times that someone will visit the priest only for the priest to start talking about a relative of his customer. So do you think the one who disbelieve such a vision won't be punished?🤔 There are quacks in any profession. It is not possible for a real IFA priest to ask you to do ebo when you did not come for consultation. They can advise you to go for consultation though. In any case they will never issue threats about the afterlife. They can issue threats to those who refuse to do ebo but the threats have nothing to do with the afterlife |

YES.
So it's not only those who believe in your ifá that your ifá used to see visions for just as it applies to all other religions and whoever disregard your ifá is called an unbeliever!🙂 Are you now saying a Babalawo will ask someone to do ebo without the person coming for consultation? So stop deceiving yourself!🙂 No it means refusing to heed the advise of the ifa priest. Refusing to do ebo. Why would you go to an IFA priest if you want to refuse to heed the advise? Would you go to a lawyer while not wanting to heed his counsel? In any case there is a well known Olofin called Olofin Adeja who was known for never heeding the advise of ifa priest. Nothing untowards happened to him. If you go to a Babalawo you would be advised to do ebo for your own good and you would be warned there would be consequences if you don't but not in the afterlife as you seem to think |

dequir: Where did you get your own version of bigoted history? The Fulani invaders that the Oyo Calvary wiped out completely at Osogbo in the early 19th century, thus ending the Fulani forage into Yoruba lands forever. In Osogbo the Oyo used infantry to defeat Ilorin calvary. By the time Ibadan became the Oyo headquarters Oyo was no longer a calvary power. Ibadan relied on infantry as calvary was not effective in the forest. The Oyo empire before the rise of Ibadan relied on Calvary and the Calvary was well feared. I remember reading they stationed over 300k calvary close to Kanem Borno at one point. Then people defeated in Osogbo were Yoruba Muslims. The Fulani never crossed Bariba land to fight Ibadan. The leader of that particular expedition was Ali the Hausa Balogun of Ilorin whose descendants are now the Emir |
