gbo—The All Progressives Congress, APC, screening
committee from the national secretariat of the party for the Osun
West Senatorial seat yesterday has disqualified Senator
Mudashiru Husain from participating in the party primaries.
According to the result of the screening done on the screened
candidates by the committee chairman, Hon. Sanusi Rikiji, Husain
was disqualified because the party guide lines stipulates that a
candidate must not “remain in the public service within 30 days
prior to an election.”
Rikiji said the two candidates (Sen. Husain and brother to late
Senator Isiaka Adeleke, Ademola), presented to his committee by
the state party were screened and served the outcome of the
screening according to the party guidelines.
He said the primary to pick a candidate for the July 8, INEC
schedule Osun West bye-election would hold today by 8am.
He however appealed to all contestants to ensure their followers
conduct themselves peacefully during the primary, stating that any
candidate that has any complaints should direct such to the
committee.

Alex Izinyon, a senior advocate of Nigeria, has withdrawn as the lawyer representing controversial billionaire businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim in the on-going case involving the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in the upcoming poll in Ondo.

The lawyer who represents Biyi Poroye, the self-professed Ondo State chairman of Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction of PDP withdrew from the tension-soaked case at Appeal Court on Wednesday, November 2, 2016.

The SAN in a letter (obtained by The Trent) addressed to Ibrahim, said he was not aware of the offensive petition written against the three Appeal Court justices who had been assigned to hear the case and that he could no longer continue to represent Poroye and Ibrahim in the matter.

On Tuesday, Justice Jummai Sankey-led panel disqualified itself from further presiding over the cases after the justices were blackmailed by Jimoh Ibrahim and Ali Modu Sheriff in a dehumanising petition against the Honourable Justice Sankey.

The Appeal Court panel, consequently, returned the files of all the five pending cases to the president of the Court of Appeal, citing a petition by Ali Modu Sheriff-led, a faction chairman of the PDP, and Poroye, accusing members of the panel of being compromised.

Specifically, Justice Sankey was branded as “poor” on the basis of her health challenges and as such, in the view of petitioner, she was also corrupt.

I don't know why some Nigerians are these confused or
should i say mischievous they tend to know the right thing
and shout on top of their voices when they are affected and
confuse when it happens the way they are against, whether
we hate or like something we should always try to stand by
the truth irrespective of tribe, religion or party or we risk
remaining stagnant.
In this Abia state saga am very much astonished that some
senior lawyers could stoop so low to say what they are
saying when the law which they claim to abide is very clear
and unambiguous but need not to apply nothing but a literal
rule interpretation meaning.
Now Section 143 sub 1 of the electoral Act which guilds the
conduct of elections clearly provides
"If the Election Tribunal or the COURT as the case may be
determines that a Candidate returned as elected was not
validly elected, then if notice of Appeal against that decision
is given within 21 days from the date of the decision the
candidate returned as elected shall, not withstanding the
contrary decision of the election tribunal or the COURT,
remain in office pending the determination of the Appeal".
The Law is very Clear irrespective of pre or post election
matter, the checking of document for election is an
electioneering process and primary election is an election
process also monitored by Inec.
Now my question is why was Inec so fast in issuing
Certificate of return to Dr Uche ogar because this is not the
first time a sitting governor is sacked by the court and they
Appeal while on sit, does it mean that if the court declares,
later this week the third contender Barr Friday Nwosu who
first approach the court before Uche Ogar contending that
he should be declared governor that Gov. Ikpeazu was not
qualify to contest the election and Uche ogar rejected the
primary election result and did not accept or sign the result
thus should not benefit from what he has rejected, will Inec
also issue him certificate of return and if Gov. Ikpeazu wins
in Appeal court will Inec also issue him another certificate of
return take it or leave it Inec has put confusion in Abia.
Let us move away from election does it mean that when
ever a trial court sentences one to death for criminal act or
murder the person should be executed immediately when
his stipulated time for Appeal has not elapsed.
Am not siding any party am only voicing out as a concerned
Abian because right here in Abia there is tension and
clashes.
Abians, Nigerians, and the world should hold Inec
responsible if, and for anything that happens in Abia.

SIR, section 145 of the electoral act applies when the issue to be determined emanated from the conduct of a general election. Secondly, the above section cited applies where the order to vacate office arose from the decision of a tribunal. Ikpeazu 's removal was from a high court and not a tribunal and so section 145 EA is not applicable.

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) ADMISSION Screening Exercise for 2016/2017 Academic Session will take place between 27th June, 2016 and 9th, July 2016 in designated centres within Ugbowo Campus of the University. The Screening Exercise shall be Computer Based. All candidates are expected to be seated, latest one hour before the stipulated time for the screening exercise.
PLEASE NOTE: Only candidates who applied through JAMB for UTME Admission and chose University of Benin as First Choice and scored 200 and above are eligible for this Screening Exercise.
METHOD OF APPLICATION:

All applications should be done between 7.00am 14th June, 2016 and Midnight 22nd June, 2016.

The procedure for the 2016/2017 Admission Screening application is as follows:

Candidates are advised to have a valid e-mail account before starting the application process.

1.Visit www.uniben.edu
2.Click on Student Portal
3.Click on Register for application at the top left of the display page to proceed.
4.Enter your Surname exactly as written on the JAMB Registration slip and your JAMB Registration Number immediately, your ID and Password will be displayed on the browser.
5. On the https://uniben.waeup.org click on ‘Login’ (top right of front page).
6. Enter your Username and the password to login.
7.To start the application process, please click on ‘Application record’, provide all required information and upload your passport photograph.
8.Upload a RECENT and CLEAR “1×1” COLOUR PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPH WITH RED BACKGROUND IN JPEG FORMAT ONLY. NOTE that the photograph uploaded will be the only valid ID for all admitted candidates throughout their stay in the University of Benin. FAILURE TO UPLOAD THE SPECIFIED PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPH WILL LEAD TO DISQUALIFICATION and failure/forfeitures of admission.
