Keneharrycdc: I think many schools in the US (more than 70%) waive the English language requirements if you're from Nigeria or obtained your undergrad degree from Nigeria. Almost same with standardized exams like GRE (except probably for PhD). But you can search for the schools you're interested in and email them to confirm. |

jasperonyx: I am not a visa guru or a VO but with my limited knowledge, giving the above responses to any VO will almost certainly land you in visa denial, except you're just joking with the above responses you intend to give. Why will you tell the VO that your purpose of choosing a school was because of the cost? Even if you have to say such (which I don't believe is advisable, that should be on the bottom of the lists). In VO mind, what happened to obtaining the same degree from your home country or other countries with cheaper COA. To add salt to the wound, you said you will work while schooling! As international student, you are not expected to work outside the campus and even the on campus work is limited to 20 hours per week during academic session. Even if you intend to work on campus, you shouldn't say it. With your responses, you've already signalled the VO that you will likely abuse your visa or even abandon your studies or become a public charge to the US, especially considering the fact that you're probably taking a student loan. Also, your post study plans are not strong and convincing. Eg although most do not end up coming back, you are expected to come back after your studies and not 'aspire to come back...' In summary, your transcript needs total overhauling to prevent the imminent certainty of visa denial. 2 Likes |

Hybikay07: How are you sure that the reason for the denial was entirely due to sponsor? While that may be true, there may other factors that led the denial. You can critically look into your previous application and how you responded to the questions asked. Ensure you know the details about that you sponsor and how he is able to pay for your program as well as the immigration status How were you able to prove hometie when your sponsor is living in the US? |

demmyfranc: While not having scholarships may not entirely affect your chances of visa approval, having scholarships can increase you chances. Also, you have to be ready to state why you're choosing the school with hight tuition when you may have other cheaper options. Besides, as your sponsor is domiciled in the US, you need to prove strong home ties and ensure that your sponsor immigrated legally and through the right process, and you will not follow her steps of not coming back after your program (ie if she followed the study route or other similar routes). Finally, you need to be know what you sponsor does, what she earns and how she can pay for your program when she may have other responsibilities on her 1 Like |

liliberth: I think it would depend on your status in the UK and your place of work. For example if you're a permanent resident, citizen or have ILR, number of years you've stayed in the UK and if your job is a permanent one and/ or you're being sponsored by your organization. Other possible ties like marriage, children, assets in the UK. So you just have to check and see where you have more ties. |

I doubt if your deposition to the question is a major concern. However, you can put any date between earliest admission date and program/school start date, preferably any date one to two weeks before program start date. Greatkenny2: |

The truth is that one can actually get one's F1 visa approved outside one's home country with no marriage ties (myself as an example). However, you may have to be ready to prove some ties in your home country (such as properties, post study plans in your home country) or country of residence among other factors like financial capability for your studies, etc. 5 Likes |

You can use this link below to search for schools of public health, some offer different forms of fundings. You can also email the schools of your choice for more information regarding funding, etc. https://www.healthcare-administration-degree.net/affordable-master-in-public-health-degree-programs-2/ More so, you can search through sophas.aspph.org SOPHAS is a centralized application system for various schools of public health in US. They advantage of applying through it is that you get to submit your documents like transcripts, LoRs, CV, standardized test scores only once and they will submit them the schools that you choose. The drawback is that not every school of public health is registered there and also their application fee is relatively high (I think around 155$ for the first application you submit and around 55$ for each subsequent application, but the fees might have changed). willian10: 2 Likes |

Sorry for your visa denial... From your transcript, I think the reasons for the denial relate to both home ties and school. As others have already stated, it would good if you establish you ties to your home country instead of the country of your residence. VOs know the immigration laws of your country of residence more than you do and they know you're not coming back to the country. Establishing your ties to your home country isn't just telling the VO that you have relatives in Nigeria. How will your intended program address some concerns in your home country? Are there businesses you want to establish in your country and companies you will want to work with? Also, you can get the documents of any landed properties you have in your home country (in case you're asked or you need to present it to the VO). Regarding the school of your choice, your responses are more of generic. Most US schools are (or should be known) for integrity, honesty, etc and hence these are not specific answers. How does the school relates to your career goals? Are there courses, etc that are peculiar to the school in relation to your career goals? Are there professor(s) whose works catch your interest and who you will like to mentor you? Besides, are there other schools you applied to and what made you to choose this school instead of the other ones? You can also state the scholarship award as one of the reasons (if the amount is significant). Regarding when to reapply, since your resumption date is relatively far and I believe it is easier to get closer dates in UAE, you can apply as soon as you can but it may be better to give like a space of one month or little more in order to organize yourself better. Also, you can use the 'explain' in previously denied visa to state the areas if felt you didn't address well. All the best. Tkulthenoble: 3 Likes |

You may have to exercise patience and wait as you were told (even though it is taking longer time than necessary). Maybe they are still processing you visa or making some verifications. Keep tracking your status online to note when it changes from approved to issued (which is likely the time you would be contacted for a pickup of your passport). Abdgafarplenty: |

While I have limited knowledge and information regarding this(as most schools I applied to do not have such prerequisite and it is not too common in MSc applications, except it is for research, if I am not mistaken), I think you have to go through the schools' website and then to the program(s) you're applying to and then look at the faculty members and see the professors or teachers there whose areas of work you admire or align with yours. You can subsequently send them email(using their school contact email address) that you're interested in their works(mention specific works you are interested) and tell them you're applying to their school and will like to mentored by them if you're accepted into the program. NB: Include a brief background of yours, and you can let them know it is because of your interest in their area of work that you're applying to school. The subject of the email could something like, "Request to be mentored by you". Some may response, others may ignore. Don't be discouraged by that. All the best. ColdHunter: 1 Like |

Well as I earlier stated, you have to define the path you want whether you want to enter into clinical field, academia or research. Bear in mind that PhD takes time(≥3 years) and with PhD you will likely enter into academia or research. If time is not an issue to you, you may go for the PhD after or during which you can navigate your way into clinical nursing (writing NCLEX, obtaining licence, etc) but the little concern is loosing track along the way as you stated. You can try masters or PhD in nursing, MPH, physiology, etc. You can research for schools that offer such. Requirements for PhD programs as someone already stated depends on the school. But some schools I researched sometimes ago require GRE, minimum of 3.0 GPA, interview, etc. Most admit direct from BSc. However, for public health(PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, maternal and child health, etc), an MPH or MSPH degree is almost always required. Any health related field(like anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, etc) that you took course in during your undergraduate program may not really be a deviation. ColdHunter: 1 Like |

I think your two options look great and promising. However, bear in mind that to practice clinically as a nurse in USA or Canada, you need NCLEX (if I am not mistaken). As others commented, you can apply for MSc or PhD and you have high chances of getting funding. But you have to define the path you want and also know the timeline involved in finishing PhD program. You can prepare and write the NCLEX while doing your PhD or MSc (as the case may be) and use the opportunity to also network. ColdHunter: 1 Like |

Sorry for your denial. From your transcript, the information you deposited are lacking in some details: For example you didn't state whether you're going for BSc or MSc program. Also, how related is your current work(counseling) to your first degree (if any)? Just stating that you're a counselor doesn't seem to be convincing enough just as your supposed husband ministry(which kind of ministry, religious, etc?) Besides, depending on the year you acquired your last degree, you suppose to contribute at least in part to your COA even if your family is willing to sponsor you, especially owing to the fact that you're working except you're nothing doing a paid work. Saying that you applied to only one school seemed to be a red flag. In summary, the presentation of your whole facts(intending school, COA, family ties, relevance of your course of study to your present work, post study plans, etc) doesn't look convincing enough You need to just go beyond just reading transcripts and be more proactive in your visa preparation before thinking of applying again. Why not do a personalized CV yourself? Also, you can search and download CV app from Google Playstore. For the SOP, some schools state the required format, number of words(like ≤ 500/750 words) or pages(1-2 pages) while others do not. You can verify from your school's website. But if it is not stated, it is good not to exceed 2 pages. AllDModsAreMaad: 1 Like 1 Share |

If I may add to what others have already written, I think you would need to work on your funding. For example, you graduated in 2016, it is expected that the deficit should be funded majorly (if not solely) by you instead of your dad. You should also state how much your earn and how much of the deficit you will cover. More so, the correlation between your intended course in your masters degree program, your BSc and your current work do not seem to align very well. It would have been good to focus you graduate program on pharmaceutical science or any other field that is much closer to that instead of biology. In summary, just as the last VO that interviewed you pointed out, you need to change something in either your deficit, course or school,... aelai: 2 Likes |

He can apply in either of the locations but I think it would better for him to apply from UK as it would be easier to get availability of interview date than in Nigeria. But he has to be ready to prove strong home ties in Nigeria except maybe he's a permanent resident in UK or a British citizen. CheersP: 1 Like 1 Share |

From the little I know, I think MRV fees are not transferable across border(between different countries) as you get to pay the fee in the local currency of the country where you will be interviewed. Hence, if you want to change your interview location from Nigeria to UK, you may have to pay another visa fee. For the change of passport number, I think you can easily do so by updating your profile. eetzdave: |

Why not enquire from the schools you're interested in to know if they accept the IEE in lieu of WES evaluation. But how come WES is not evaluating your school certificate/transcript? christobabee: |

Based on what you stated, I do not think you have a relative in the US. I think relative they mean are your immediate family members(father, mother, siblings, wife/husband and kids). If the relative falls out of the above, I think there is no need mentioning them(I stand to be corrected though). Besides, your 'maternal uncle' do not currently reside in US. Also, bear in mind that the farer your sponsor is from you, the harder for the approval. So you have to prove why he wants to sponsor you as well as his financial capability to do that. All the best. Most times what we think is/are the reason(s) for the refusal may or may not be. As you said too, switching from your uncle to your mother might be better as the later is much closer to you. However, you have to be prepared to give the reason why you're switching sponsorship and also the financial capability of your new sponsor. In your DS-160, you can also explain the reason(s) why you think you were denied... All the best.

Why do you still want to write it when the schools you're interested in do not require it? Also, you can ask the schools if GRE is considered in decision making both for funding/scholarship or admission. I also think some schools would consider it if the CPGA is low or if the schools/programs you're going for are competitive. In summary, you can still go ahead and write especially if you have already booked the GRE, as you may never tell if it can be an added advantage. Harkstetunz: |

In as much as you needed to have funding for the first year only(especially to obtain 1-20 from your school), have a backup plan of how you intend to fund your second year in case you're asked such question by the VO. Also, if you receive funding from your school ensure to know if it is for one semester, first year or both first and second year. For the second question, I think both fields are related(I have limited knowledge on that though). Jidesam01: |
