There is nothing in Putins reactions in Ukraine that's strange or new. He did exactly the same thing in Georgia, when during the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics, Gorgia tried overunning ethnic Russians in Georgia. Putin left Beijing and went back home to bomb the Gorgian president back to sanity..

He has given Ukraine a loooong time to mend their ways. From just stopping at Crimea last time, to watching from the sidelines as ethnic Russians were slaughtered in Eastern Ukraine, he never attacked. If the leadership in Kiev weren't on some sort of ego trip, this would have been avoided..
