“We will accept it (the results of the election). We had our own knife and yam; we were not able to cut it the way we wanted. We have no other person to blame. It is in this part of the country that people ask for money to go and vote. However, the northerners were paying for their own transportation to go and exercise their rights and to go and pick their PVCs.
“Our people were expecting that they would be paid to collect PVCs and the results reflected so. We have no other choice; we are the architect of our own problem. So, we should be able to live with it.
“If you go and protest, you are on your own. If you go and destroy anything, you are on your own. I, as the leader of youths in this region, have reached out to other ethnic nationalities to canvass support. Maybe, we started late. Maybe the attention was not given that should have started with the political class. That says it all. Thanks for being honest! |

Politics › Re: Ivory Coast Ex-first Lady, Simone Gbagbo Jailed 20 Years For Election Violence by LeStylo: 10:25pm On Mar 10, 2015 |
lolaxavier: A court in Ivory Coast on Tuesday found former first lady Simone Gbagbo guilty of charges related to her role in a 2011 post-election crisis in which around 3,000 people were killed, sentencing her to 20 years in prison, her lawyer said.
Gbagbo, who is also wanted by the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes against humanity, was tried along with 82 other allies of ex-President Laurent Gbagbo. “The jury members retained all the charges against her, including disturbing the peace, forming and organising armed gangs and undermining state security,” said Rodrigue Dadje. Her civil rights will also be suspended for a period of 10 years.
The former president’s son, Michel Gbagbo, was also convicted and sentenced to five years in prison, he said. Ivory Coast’s brief 2011 civil war was sparked by Laurent Gbagbo’s refusal to acknowledge his defeat to Alassane Ouattara, now president, in elections in late 2010.
He is awaiting trial at the ICC accused of crimes against humanity for his alleged role in orchestrating the violence.Ivory Coast refused to transfer Simone Gbagbo to The Hague court, claiming she could be judged fairly in a domestic court.

truthispainful: BUHARI’S SURPRISE VISIT TO CHIBOK
Via Ayama A Ayama
The JTF Commanders on ground were reported to have been taken by surprise and shocked at Buhari’s daring request to proceed to Chibok immediately after the rally and refused to provide him security cover until they received a clearance from their superiors in Abuja.
GMB left for Chibok inspite of their refusal to go along with him and was moved when he came out and saw the thousands of Civilian JTF members who had volunteered to provide security for him,the Borno Governor and their entourage to and from Chibok Town, and off they went.
The people and parents of Chibok were filled with hope and joy upon sighting Buhari and his entourage, and escorted him into Chibok with singing and dancing.
Crowd receives Buhari in Maiduguri
After he addressed the people and parents of the girls, a pastor offered prayers for the safe return of Buhari and his entourage back home and for his victory at the polls.
The villagers got emotional and some of them started weeping when the General was getting set to depart for Maiduguri later in the night.
http://www.nigerianwatch.com/news/6405-general-buhari-pays-surprise-visit-to-chibok-after-addressing-rally-in-maiduguri#sthash.MNj1UiMY.dpuf This piece of information remains an unverified news item. It's big a news to be relegated to obscure bloggers. He wanted to, but was cautioned by the army as too dangerous as the access was only by largely earth road. He DID NOT go to Chibok. Thanks. |

Politics › Re: Nigerian Soldier: "We Are Using Old Tanks Since 1976 To Fight Boko Haram" - BBC by LeStylo: 3:53pm On Feb 13, 2015 |
kolonigga: You can listen to the conversation here https://soundcloud.com/bbc-world-service/the-fight-against-boko-haram-a-nigerian-soldier-speaks-out?ocid=socialflow_twitter These are some of the conversations i wrote down. BBC journalist asked "when Boko Haram dislodged you, where did you go?" he said they went back, reinforced and went back again. They requested for reinforcement and they sent 20 men but they refused to come due to lack of weapons they don't have. The 20 men were dismissed from the army. He said they have requested for weapons but in many cases have been refused. He said many women in his barracks are windows, they are suffering. He said Boko Haram fighters are using AA(Anti-Aircraft), RPGs and many support weapons. He said the gun they are using is Kalashnikov(AK-47) while old tanks since 1976. The weapons are very, very old he told the BBC journalist. BBC journalist asked if the Boko Haram are plenty? He said yes they are, the army of 116 soldiers will attack Boko Haram of about 3,000 at that day, that there is a problem. He said that the enemy strength of last year was about 10,000 while his own strength is 400 - 500 and any attack they come they must defeat us due to lack of support weapons he said. BBC journalist asked him if he could defeat Boko Haram at any time? he said "Yes, he is a soldier he can do better but logistic fail, weapons fail, morale fail". BBC journalist asked him of his senior officers, if they are angry of the situation? he said: "I can't say so, they are not thinking of the soldiers but themselves, i like Nigeria, it is my country i never have any other country to go". BBC journalist asked him if he will go and fight if necessary? he said: "Yes, if they bring the necessary things he will, this is my country i can never run to any foolish , let them do the right thing at the right time, we soldiers believe we can do more than what they can do to us"; BBC journalist asked him about the security chief saying they can get rid of Boko Haram within 8 weeks if he agrees? he said: "kai! I never been agree, i can look but i never blame i never dream that in my mind. Things are wrong that is what i am telling you, that's the truth" https://twitter.com/BBCAfrica/status/566141845034774528 I have personally spoken to more than 20 soldiers, many of which are returnee combatant, paramedic or support engineers. This report is 100% in consonance with their accounts. They are restricted to the use of hand weapons strictly while they've got heavier weapons. Their AKs are old and rusty. Even more saddening is the fact that they're rationed bullets! They only get 1 or 2 magazines for their operations. That's a paltry 60 bullets! "A suicidal mission!", he lamented. "Honestly, I do not know how I survived 1yr and 3months in Borno!". Only 2 weeks ago, a colleagues brother-in-law died. They ran out of bullets while defending themselves against a BH attack. All 24 soldiers were "murdered", avoidably! The news never made it to mainstream media. They were all "dignified" with a mass burial. Sadly, the Nigeria soldier has got no advocate to speak it's cause. When they're forced to speak or act, they get court-martialed! Sad. Spare a thought for the Nigerian soldier. |
