In a lengthy post shared via her Instagram page on Thursday, May 26, the movie star while celebrating her daughter’s 18th birthday, detailed how she moved to a new school and was welcomed by bullies. “NOT SO RANDOM STORY Sooo sisi kekere (can I still refer to her like that?) had just transferred to a new school having spent her entire academic career up to that point in one place. It took a whole summer of convincing, but I finally caved in – do not underestimate @jemiyodoyle once she’s set her mind on a thing. Anyways, she arrives, bright and bubbly eager to take on new territory and blossom, which she did,” she wrote Within months of arriving she vied for and won a position on the Students Council. Apparently, that’s not allowed. “You cannot just arrive here and begin to “shine” without “permission”,” she wrote. The actress then narrated how Etomi helped to manage the situation by accompanying her daughter to the school. “Oh, the bullying was aggressive! And most of the time, she would beg me not to step in, determined to make her way. Anyways Mrs. Wellington heard about the goings-on and said “Auntie, I’m going to go pick Jem up from school one day”… I said OK,” On the said day, she asked me to sit in the car. It took longer than usual… @adesuaetomi didn’t just “pick” her from schl…she took her time to stroll around the school compound with her arm around Jemiyo, waving at the students who had become dumbstruck.” she added. The message was clear: “This is my Beloved, thou shall not touch”. Suffice to say the bullying died down significantly from that day – true star power.” https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/EEDBEE95-D5F2-4BB1-BABF-0A791F2088BA.jpeg?resize=708%2C507&ssl=1 Jem has kolobied many of my friends, who have poured into her…some for a season, for some, just a brush…you have no idea how powerful just one brush from the right person is in molding a young mind. It truly takes a village…the 3 people captured here represent mine.” She went on to appreciate everyone that have impacted her daughter’s life including actress, Michelle Dede. “To everyone who has ever touched Jems life positively…THANK YOU I also want to thank the multitude of my online village too, for your warm wishes and prayers…Omo a ye gbogbo wa, a o ni se ti, ni oruko Jesu!!!❤️” she wrote. Doyle is a Nigerian actress, writer, producer and Tv presenter. She is popularly known for hosting and producing her own fashion and lifestyle show titled Oge With Iretiola for 10 years. https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Media-Rants-banners-1-10.png?resize=732%2C412&ssl=1 Ayinla first premiered in cinemas in June 2021, but with its ascension to Netflix, the biopic about Ayinla Omowura, one of Yoruba’s finest musicians, has met a new audience more eager to embrace it. Ayinla is a film that tells the story of Nigerian musician, Ayinla Omowura, who used Apala music to address issues of contemporary society – commending and criticizing various governmental and individual acts. Ayinla Omowura died a tragic death on May 6, 1980. Everyone versed in Nigerian music history (particularly in southwestern Nigeria) knows this, and director Tunde Kelani doesn’t try to sugarcoat this tragic end or paint Ayinla as some saint. With Ayinla’s release on Netflix, star Lateef Adedimeji took to his Twitter handle to, once again, express his gratitude to Tunde Kelani for the opportunity to star as the legendary musician. “It was a very tough and challenging experience. It was the least of what I was expecting at this stage of my career. I had always prayed to work with Tunde Kelani; even if it was to play a cameo role in any of his movies. So, when the lead role came, I thought it was a dream. I did not believe it until I heard ‘action’ on the first day on set. “It was challenging because I had not been a fan of apala music and I never listened to it. But, when I got the script, I started listening to apala songs. I had to do a lot of research because there wasn’t much documentation or video recording of any kind on Ayinla Omowura. All the characterisation I did was built based on my own research and everything I had heard and read about him. It was quite a stretch for me. The musical part was also taxing because I had to learn his songs. It was tough but at the end, I am glad it came out well. “Tunde Kelani is one director that takes his time. I never saw him get angry. If an actor was not getting it right, he would tell the person to calm down and relax. While acting, if he was not satisfied with my performance, he would tell me to improve. And immediately, I gave him what he wanted, he would commend me. “God bless him for us.” Ayinla is now streaming on Netflix. https://mediarants.com/i-thought-it-was-a-dream-i-did-not-believe-it-until-i-heard-action-on-the-first-day-on-set-lateef-adedimeji-on-playing-ayinla-omowura/ |

The nominees list for the 2022 Headies Award have been unveiled at long last, with, as usual, surprise inclusions and snubs trailing the list. Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter Cheque took Twitter few hours after the unveiling to have a dig at The Headies board after it appeared he had not been nominated in any of the categories for Rap/Hip Hop. “Another year and the HEAdIES fails to recognize my music in the Rap category, while melodic rappers like Durk and Roddy are idolized in the rap scene worldwide That’s why HiPhop has remained Stagnant HERE but It’s Calm I will still be dropping HiTs even if I don’t get my Flowers,” tweeted Cheque. Although Cheque sings too, he’s predominantly a rapper. His debut studio album “Bravo” released in 2021 and is a fusion of Trap, emo Rap, and Pop delivered in an African iteration. Nigerian singer and politician, Bankole Wellington popularly known as Banky W has won the house of representatives primaries for the Eti-Osa Federal constituency under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). This was made known in a viral video on social media, where the votes of the primaries were counted and closely monitored by the delegates and members of the party. This is the music star’s second attempt at winning a seat in the green chambers of the National Assembly. He won with twenty-eight votes while his closest opponent scored three votes. https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/06B58E34-3271-4045-A6EF-187D4F970DFC.jpeg?resize=708%2C733&ssl=1 The music executive announced that he’ll be running for the House of Reps seat back in April. “We must engage with Nigeria where it is, not where we prefer for it to be. In 2019, we planted the seed. In 2023, by the grace of God, and with your support, we will win the seat. The time for just talking is over. It’s time to #TalkAndDo. I hope I can count on you. We move,” he tweeted at that time. Banky W first announced his decision to run for the house of representatives back in November 2018. The news was largely received by both fans and industry colleagues. He however lost the elections to Ibrahim Obanikoro of the All Progressive Congress (APC). https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Media-Rants-banners-5-6.png?resize=732%2C412&ssl=1 Daredevil season 4 is finally happening! Following Marvel Studios’ chief Kevin Feige’s previous announcement about the certainty of Matt Murdock joining the main MCU in a more fleshed-out role than his cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, new details have come to light about the studio’s plan to move forward with the fan-favorite character. Marvel Studios described the revival as a “new yet continued show”. Matt Corman and Chris Ord are attached as writers and executive producers of the series, and, from all indications, it should begin shooting later this year or early 2023. This (unofficial but somewhat credible) report is coming four years after the show ended its three-season run on Netflix, alongside all the other MCU shows there. The main cast is expected to return but since nothing is yet set in stone, read on for a list of things we hope to see when Daredevil resurrects on Disney+. Wilson Fisk Wilson Fisk in Daredevil What is a Daredevil story without Wilson Fisk played by Vincent D’Onofrio? Absolutely nothing, if you ask me. D’Onofrio has owned this role since he first stepped into the shoes left vacant by Michael Clarke Duncan in the 2003 Daredevil movie. The actor has brought a kind of physicality and intentionality that makes the role feel much more impactful than it would’ve been if a less-perfect actor had been cast in it. D’Onofrio has already made his main MCU debut in the Hawkeye series, which makes it much more likely than any of the other actors from the former Netflix series to see him in Daredevil season 4. The Daredevil Squad Karen Page Foggy Nelson and Matt Murdock If there’s one thing the Daredevil TV show got right it’s its casting. Supporting Charlie Cox in the titular lead role is a bevy of talented actors, including Elden Hensen (Foggy Nelson), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elodie Yung (Elekta), and Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), to mention but a few. I’d love to see them all return to the series, and I want to bet I’m not alone. Bullseye Pointdexter Bullsye Daredevil Wilson Bethel joined Daredevil in its final season on Netflix to play FBI Special Agent Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter, better known as the popular comic book character Bullseye. His portrayal was a brutal one, and the way the season ended left room for more stories involving the classic character. Bethel might be contractually obligated to All Rise on OWN right now, but I hope the producers can find a way around his schedule to fit the character in the upcoming new season. Blood, Gore, and Violence daredevil grave Disney is a family-oriented brand, so, rightly, fans of Daredevil are worried about what the move from Netflix to Disney+ will mean for the beloved show. In some ways, Moon Knight, a similarly brutal comic book character, was used to test the waters, but not everyone is a fan of how that turned out. Dear Marvel Studios, please push yourselves to the limits of what’s obtainable with a PG-13 rating with Daredevil season 4. A Great Story in 10 Episodes or Less daredevil fight Overall, what we want is a great Daredevil story. If Disney+ can give this to us, I’m confident fans will be glad. Until that happens, we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed. Are you excited for Daredevil’s resurrection at Disney+? Let me know in the comments. https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/10-Nigerian-artists-who-could-be-the-future-of-Afrobeats-media-rants.jpg?resize=732%2C427&ssl=1 The future of Afrobeats arguably lies in the hands of Nigerian artists. Juxtaposing alongside the world’s most followed musical genres, Afrobeats is well in its prime. Maintaining context, it’s a great time to be associated with the African continent, as both American and European audiences, stars and record labels jostle for a piece of the continent’s vibrant and enthralling musical genre. Modern African music antecedents: Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Chief Osita Osadebe and more, beyond reasonable doubt prospered in laying the solid foundation that inspired many all-time-greats. From mid to late 2000’s pioneers such as 2Face Idibia, P Square, Dbanj, and 9ice to more contemporary acts like Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, that list could well continue. Today, Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy are major trailblazers, taking the bubbly Afrobeats’ global appeal stateside and beyond, to new meridians. They all continue to navigate previously uncharted waters with enviable success. Whether they’ve been aided by the internet and social media or not, they’ve led the way for the next generation of Afrobeats stars. And, like it or not, just like every other star, they cannot maintain this profound run forever. Even if they attempt to, the dynamics of popular demand will not allow, as culture might shift, commercial viability may decrease, or they may even lose interest in the art and decide to pursue other things. One way or the other, they will eventually have to pass the torch to a new crop of artists, who will advance or at minimum, maintain the genre’s current palatable standards. Good news is that it appears there are many of them; some already established and some just up and coming, whom we all agree could take the game to another all-time-high. After careful consideration, we’ve come up with a list of 10 artists who could potentially become the future of Afrobeats, the next vanguards of contemporary African music. Despite their varying levels of success and length of career, these guys have attained some notoriety and commercial success. There’s still a lot to do, but they’ve shown one way or the other that they have what it takes to cement their places among Afrobeats all-time-greats. Tems — Temilade Openiyi https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Tems-edited-2.jpeg?resize=519%2C830&ssl=1 Tems’ big break came in 2018/19 after single “Try Me” became a big hit. A couple of EPs; “For Broken Ears” (2020) and “If Orange Was A Place” (2021), and several high profile international collaborations has seen her bag Grammy nominations despite her relatively young career. Her freewheeling delivery and emotional rawness, coupled with those signature long braids has made her one of Afrobeats’ potential icons. CKay — Chukwuka Ekweani https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/CKay-edited.jpg?resize=313%2C500&ssl=1 When the Recording Industry Association of America launched the Billboard Afrobeats Chart, CKay’s 2019 smash hit “Love Nwantiti” immediately debuted at number 1 and stayed there for long. The record and several others have made CKay a big hitter, who not only writes songs but can produce them as well. Rema – Divine Ikubor https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Rema-edited.jpg?resize=313%2C500&ssl=1 Rema became a global sensation when he was endorsed by the coolest president to ever sit in the white house, Barrack Obama. At only 19, Rema’s song “Iron Man” made it to the former POTUS’ 2019 summer playlist. Since then, he’s made the stateside leap with relative ease, and featured one of the world’s most notorious pop singers, Chris Brown on his debut album Rave & Roses. Fireboy DML — Adedamola Adefolahan https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Fireboy-DML-edited.jpg?resize=708%2C1133&ssl=1 Fireboy DML is one of the more established acts in this list. With all that he’s already achieved, he’s arguably the closest to that point of no return. Yes, because legendary status is irreversible. Hit maker, trailblazer of his era, champion, iconic, there’s already a lot to idolise about the boy from YBNL Records act who gave the “Peru.” Joeboy — Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Joeboy-Godwin-edited.jpg?resize=519%2C837&ssl=1 Joeboy broke into the scene around the same time as Fireboy DML. Both artists went head-to-head for almost everything then, but their careers have taken respective shapes now, with their uniqueness evident for all to see. When Joeboy released “Alcohol (Sip)” in 2021, it was an instant global hit, inspiring millions of TikTok content creators. At some point, it was the most shazzamed song in the world. That was off the back of two successful studio projects, “Love & Light” and “Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic.” Ayra Starr — Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/ayra-starr-edited.jpg?resize=708%2C1134&ssl=1 In early 2022, Apple’s music recognition platform, Shazam listed Ayra Starr as one of the artists to watch out for in 2022. She’d owned the previous year after debuting her first full length project 19 & Dangerous. 19 & Dangerous was packed with viral records “Bloody Samaritan,” “Beggie Beggie (ft CKay)” and more. Will she be able to sustain that remarkable ascension? Doubt Ayra Starr at your own peril. Buju BNXN – Daniel Benson https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Buju-Bnxn-edited-1.jpg?resize=313%2C501&ssl=1 Fortune and timing can make an artist a ‘wonder,’ but three things typically sit in the middle of sustained excellence: talent, hard work, and consistency. Buju’s already proven to be loaded, as far as talent goes. Now that he’s added a bit more ruthlessness and consistency to his craft, the sky might as well be his steppingstone. Omah Lay — Stanley Omah Didia https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/omah-lay-2-edited.jpg?resize=354%2C566&ssl=1 Omah Lay is already a fan favourite off the back of two hit-packed EPs; “What Have We Done” and “Get Layd.” Lay was a rapper before he began producing records, writing songs, and performing them. As a budding singer, “Hello Brother” earned him massive popularity in 2019. Since then he’s worked with many top international artists and made his stateside debut with “Attention” featuring Justin Bieber, the first single off his debut studio album “Boy Alone.” Zinoleeskey — Oniyide Azeez https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Zinoleesky-edited-2.jpg?resize=708%2C1134&ssl=1 Zineleeskey has been a revelation, thanks to Marlian Music founder Naira Marley who offered him a record deal a few years ago. “Kilofeshe,” off his 2020 debut EP “Chrome” quickly became a street anthem, and established him as one for the future. Since then, Zinoleesky has lived up to the high expectations, releasing several hit singles and winning over fans during features, with his sick verses. Victony — Victor Anthony https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Victony-1-edited.jpg?resize=708%2C1133&ssl=1 Victony is one of the most sensational singers of his time. With a wide vocal range capable of taking on any artist in a singing competition, Victony can pitch almost wherever he wants in fascinating easiness. After surviving a near-death motor accident in early 2021, perhaps he’s set for greatness, speaking of which he’s been off to a great restart with the release of his 7-track sophomore EP “Outlaw.” This list could well go on, as there are numerous Nigerian artists immensely blessed with talent out there, although we painfully could only pick 10. Which artists do you think should have made this list? We look forward to your responses. https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Media-Rants-banners-5-4.png?resize=732%2C412&ssl=1 Michelle Yeoh is a gift that keeps on giving. This 59-year-old Malaysian star is one of the most recognizable action film stars in Hollywood, and, sometimes, I feel like she doesn’t get enough of her flowers as she’s proven she deserves. With the arrival of her latest film Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022), we have another chance to celebrate this shining star. Here are my Top 5 movies from Michelle Yeoh’s over 30 years acting career. The Heroic Trio (1993) Michelle Yeoh stars as one-thrid of the titular trio. The movie was daring, entertaining, and well-received by fans and critics. Three superheroines discover a villain’s plot to mould kidnapped children into bloodthirsty world leaders. Tai Chi Master (1993) If you’re a fan of Hong Kong martial arts movies, then you most likely have seen Tai Chi Master. It was popular back in the day. The story follows two Shaolin monks – one placid and humble, the other fiery and competitive – who are expelled from their temple after a false accusation of cheating. They embark on two radically different paths before being reunited when one betrays the other and nearly kills him in combat. While recuperating, the more balanced monk discovers the power of the slow, graceful martial art of t’ai chi. Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) A large chunk of American movie lovers got introduced to Michelle Yeoh when she starred as Wai Lin, a Bond girl. In this movie, James Bond sets out to prevent a media baron, Elliot Carver, from waging a war between China and the United Kingdom, and Yeoh’s Wai Lin is one of the people who help him succeed. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) This movie is widely considered a masterpiece by many and Yeoh was one of the contributors to its stellar acting performances. The story follows a warrior and his lover’s attempt to recover Green Destiny, his stolen sword. Chow Yun-Fat and Zhang Ziyi co-star alongside Michelle Yeoh. Crazy Rich Asians (2018) Anyone hoping to marry into a family (of considerable status) hopes to not get a mother-in-law like Michelle Yeoh’s Eleanor Young. Poor Rachel had to work twice as had to win the woman’s heart, and the whole antagonistic sequence was twice as believable because of Yeoh’s stellar performance. Bonus: Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022) This is Michelle Yeoh’s latest movie, and everyone seems to be loving it with some calling it the multiversal story away from the MCU. When an interdimensional rupture unravels reality, an unlikely hero must channel her newfound powers to fight bizarre and bewildering dangers from the multiverse as the fate of the world hangs in the balance. What’s your favourite Michelle Yeoh movie? Let me know in the comments. https://mediarants.com/top-5-michelle-yeohs-best-movie-acting-performances/ |

The Barbarian singer and business woman has welcomed her first child, a baby boy with American rapper, A$AP Rocky on Friday, May 13, 2022. Their child’s name is yet to be known, however, TMZ reports the couple had him in Los Angeles. It would be recalled that the couple first announced that they were expecting a baby in February 2022. The couple had sparked romance rumors since Rihanna split from her boyfriend of three years, billionaire Hassan Jameel in January 2020. That July, she featured A$AP Rocky in her Fenty Skin campaign, and the duo did several interviews together to promote the collaboration. The rapper later confirmed that they were dating in 2021. https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/mi-abaga-and-joey-akan.png?resize=732%2C412&ssl=1 Rapper, MI Abaga and entertainment journalist, Joey Akan are battling it out on Twitter over the rap and hip hop genre in Nigeria. In the early hours of Thursday, May 19, popular MI Abaga took a swipe at Akan on Twitter while responding to his tweet about American rapper Da Baby visiting Nigeria to shoot a video with Davido. MI Abaga accused the journalist of disesteeming rappers. Akan responded saying the rapper’s music was what earned him respect in the past, and that he didn’t need to demand respect. That kicked off another round of replies as MI tweeted, saying the journalist was an enemy of Nigerian hip hop. But Akan wasn’t having it, and served his own rebuttal, charging MI Abaga of spilling dirty secrets about artists to tarnish their image and paying to get their songs off radios. He also added that he’d been turning down rendezvous request from the rapper, and that’s why he apparently hates him. The rap and hip hop genre in Nigeria has been hot topic recently, with MI often in the thick of things. The first episode kicked off with when American rapper Rick Ross performed in Lagos and Abuja without any rappers on the roaster. Several rappers including YCee and MI deplored the situation and blamed it on organizers and show promoters. Although the genre has been on a steady decline since the mid 2010s, MI has mainly remained true to his craft, refusing to change his style like most artists who started out as rappers. He currently has an album in the works. SOURCE -https://mediarants.com/mi-abaga-and-joey-akan-beef/ |

The most recent is the accusation made by the Los Angeles based doctor who alleged that the singer cheated on him while she was pregnant with their second child. Speaking in a live video session on his Instagram page, Dean stated Obidi was trying to destroy him because she believes he would expose her extramarital affairs. “She is trying everything she can to destroy me because she thinks I’m going to tell people she cheated on me while she was pregnant,” he said. https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/1465C6F2-41D1-43F9-9ACE-277BF26AE8F3.jpeg?resize=708%2C342&ssl=1 He went on to cite the names of the men Obidi allegedly had an affair with, which were musicians Peruzzi and Slimcase. His video came hours after Obidi admitted to infidelity in her marriage in a live video. Bridgerton is an incredibly popular show, one of the best Netflix has yet seen in its history, and that’s why fans are always eager for news about upcoming seasons Nicola Coughlan, who stars as Penelope Featherington on the show, recently took to Instagram to break the news. https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/nicolacoughlan_281267704_1072605623330504_4590330147786234692_n.jpg?resize=708%2C762&ssl=1 Bridgerton, until now, has followed the order of the Julia Quinn books it’s adapted for. The first season followed the whirlwind romance of Daphne Bridgerton and Simon, The Duke of Hastings, while the second season saw Viscount Anthony Bridgerton’s heart get swept away in passion for Kate Sharma. Traditionally, the third season ought to be Benedict Bridgerton’s turn, but the show is choosing to switch things up by bringing Collins and Penelope’s forward. There’s no release date for Bridgerton season 3 yet, but production is set to begin this summer. Coughlan’s character has been a fan-favourite of the show, so fans might not have to wait too long to see her and Collins finally fall in love. https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/MI-Abaga.jpg?resize=732%2C412&ssl=1 Prolific Nigerian rapper M.I. Abaga has said Nigerians don’t appreciate his music after listening to the newly releases fifth studio album of American rapper Kendric Lamar. MI made this known in a tweet he posted on May 14, a day after Lamar released the sensational “Mr Morale & The Big Steppers.” The album has been praised by many, including legendary American rapper Eminem, who told Dr Dre on Twitter that the album “is f****** ridiculous.” It’s easy to spot why MI said Nigerian fans don’t appreciate him enough, seeing as he’s easily one of the best Nigerian musicians when it comes to bewitching lyricism and making conscious music, which is mostly what Kendrick Lamar gets praised for. Also Read: Have Nigerian Rappers Done Enough to Earn a Seat Beside Their Afrobeats Counterparts? MI returned with another tweet though, teasing his next album is going to be great and that other Naija artists should leave this period for him. MI’s last studio project was 2020’s joint EP with fellow Nigerian rapper AQ “The Live Report.” His last solo album “Judah The E.P” was also released in 2020. https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Media-Rants-banners-4-3.png?resize=732%2C412&ssl=1 The 2022 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA) has come and gone, but the memories it left us with still feel fresh and we are burning to talk about what went down at this year’s edition of the prestigious event. The 8th edition of the AMVCA took place at Eko Hotel and Suites. The Red Carpet flung open at 4 PM and the stars showed up and showed out. Clearly, there were a few misses, but, generally, I think the Nigerian Fashion Industry has only gotten bolder and, depending on who you ask, better. The main event was about 3 hours 30 minutes long and was packed with a lot of memorable moments; we’ll be highlighting some of our favourites, so let’s go! Oscar’s The Slap 2.0: IK vs. Deyemi. Lagbaja + Rema mashup. Taiwo Ajai-Lycett receives industry merit award. Teniola Aladese wins trailblazer award. ‘Rattesnake: The Ahanna Story’ sweeps home awards – Na which babado this jazz for Play Network Studio? Osas’ dress. Bayo Akinfemi and the cast of Bob Hearts Abishola give Nigeria a shout-out. Host IK Osakioduwa and Nollywood superstar Deyemi Okanlawon both pulled a stunt that was clearly well-rehearsed, entertaining, and memorable. I found myself laughing hard the moment I finally realized what was going on, and I’m willing to bet I’m not alone. The moment IK and Deyemi pull an Oscar stunt at the AMVCA 2022 #Boombuzz #AMVCA #AMVCA8 pic.twitter.com/WtgxrqC3fj — Boombuzz Nigeria (@BoombuzzNG) May 14, 2022 Lagbaja + Rema mashup https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Lagbaja-and-Rema.jpg?resize=519%2C292&ssl=1 Lagbaja returned at this year’s AMVCA, and it was exciting to watch the masked singer do his thing to a live, bubbly audience. Even better is the fact that we got a Lagbaja + Rema mashup we didn’t kno we needed until we saw it. Thank you, AMVCA. Thank you so very much. Taiwo Ajai-Lycett receives industry merit award https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/the_amvcas_official_280761981_741340697220463_905983459618653120_n-1-1.jpg?resize=440%2C440&ssl=1 Not everyone gets to live the best years of their life abroad, then return home to a rousing welcome. But that’s the story of Taiwo Ajai-Lycett. Eloquent, gorgeous, and still very graceful at 81, Ajai-Lycett lived and worked in the UK for many years before returning to Nigeria to star in the M-net hit drama series Tinsel for starters. Taiwo Ajai-Lycett received the industry merit award last night, which we think was very deserving. Teniola Aladese wins trailblazer award https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/the_amvcas_official_280964538_387532079969043_7118088136644007250_n.jpg?resize=440%2C440&ssl=1 Teniola Aladese is only just getting started in Nollywood and the world better get ready for her. The budding actress received the trailblazer award at the AMVCA 2022, which came with a prize tag of one million Naira. Further solidifying the actress’ joy with a personal, additional $2,000 was American actress Tasha Smith. Kudos to the trailblazer! ‘Rattesnake: The Ahanna Story’ sweeps home awards – Na which baba do this jazz for Play Network Studio? Play Network Studios dominated the 2021 AMVCA, and they’ve done same with this year’s edition, too. Rattle Snake: The Ahanna Story, the studios’ frontrunner for the award season took home five award plaques, including the awards for Best Director for Ramsey Nouah, Best Actor for Stan Nze, and Best Actress for Osas Ighodaro. This is no mean feat. If anyone reading this has a direct line to Studio Exec Charles Okpaleke (aka Charles of Play), please tell him to call me – I need his baba’s contact. Osas’ dress The winner of the Best Actress in a Drama series, Osas Ighodaro also doubled as the best dressed female of the night. Although a voting category, many would argue Osas’ win is well-deserved. At the very least, I think her dress was a bold choice. I’ll let you decide if it’s indeed the best; compare with what the other stars wore HERE. Bayo Akinfemi and the cast of Bob Hearts Abishola give Nigeria a shout-out https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/%E2%80%98Bob-Hearts-Abishola-Season-2-Billy-Gardell-Tony-Okungbowa-Bayo-Akinfemi.jpg?resize=519%2C346&ssl=1 In a blink it and you miss it moment during the telecast, Bayo Akinfemi (who plays Goodwin on B♥A), followed by his cast mates, gave a heartfelt goodwill wish to the AMVCA and, by extension, Nigeria. It was brief, but I always thought it was nice. Did your favourite moment from last night’s AMVCA show make it to this list? Do tell in the comments. Nigerian singer and dancer, Korra Obidi has admitted to cheating on her husband on her husband, Justin Dean just before they got married. The mother of two made this known alongside her sister, Nancy Umeh in a live video session where she also revealed that her husband has an 18-year-old mistress. Relating her side of the story concerning their marriage woes, the singer opposed being a chronic cheat and explained it was a one time affair. “Most of you have heard one side of the story, its time for you to hear my side of the story. I’m not a chronic cheat, I’m far from a chronic cheat. I’m just a woman who was honest to her husband. Umm before I came to America, it was during the Trump’s tenure, I was very indecisive about moving and I tasted from Pandora’s box; I had an affair. That affair lasted like one date, I feel bad about it but I had not moved to America,” she said. “Up on getting to America, I was very very sad that I had made that mistake with the guy. I told him the truth, I said “hey, I had an affair in Nigeria and I don’t want us to ever have secrets.” Obidi added that Dean did not take the news well and instead subjected her to emotional and physical abuse which eventually led to her losing a pregnancy. The singer also shared videos of Dean with his alleged 18-year-old mistress all loved up on a trip in Brazil. https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/1A8F07E8-EADC-42F8-84BA-D05F786373EA.jpeg?resize=519%2C493&ssl=1 It would be recalled that the Los Angeles based chiropractor accused his estranged wife of being a chronic cheat, as he cried out over her narcissism and lack of accountability. Let’s see what to watch this weekend : Firestarter (Peacock) https://i0.wp.com/mediarants.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/firestarter-1.jpg?resize=354%2C560&ssl=1 A couple desperately try to hide their daughter, Charlie, from a shadowy federal agency that wants to harness her unprecedented gift for turning fire into a weapon of mass destruction. Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area is a South Korean iteration of the Spanish heist crime drama series. The series’ synopsis reads: “Money Heist: Korea takes place as North and South Korea are on the verge of a peaceful reunification after nearly 80 years of division. But as the nations prepare to print a brand-new unified currency, a heist is hatched.
