My friend said he had to horne his IT skill since he knew he was going to Austria. He said he had to learn some basic German. He said it is disrespectful to decide to come and stay in a non English country and you don't want to learn their language. I'm not fabricating story here, he told me Austria pays 14 times in a calendar year with regards to 12 times in most countries. My friend's wife that joined him recently now works.

Yes, he told me they could be hatred to some immigrant that solely depends on government funds, but he has never experienced it since he pays his taxes and speaks some basic German( even without some basic German nothing really do you if you are skilled up).

Toh, when you come, you will see for yourself. I have visited 3 European countries since I came to Austria, and I have barely stayed for up to 5months. Secondly, it is very possible that your friend may have graduated, and have gotten a job in the IT sector. In my university, there is a Yoruba man who is a lecturer, and he teaches a science-based course. I have also met an Igbo man who is a Doctor at a Hospital in Vienna. However, the guy is very fluent in German. He almost speaks it like a native. I also know that some full-time IT jobs don't require someone to know how to speak German. However, I can assure you that it is almost impossible for a student coming from a third-world country like Nigeria to get a student job in the IT sector. Your friend too might be giving you bobo just so that you don't look at him with one kind eye.

If you want life to be easy for you, learn the German language. If you can learn it to B1 level, Super! Otherwise, try and learn it to A2 level, and come with enough funds to last you for up to 4 months. E get why I talk am. If you don't have money, don't expect to land in Austria and get a job immediately, except if you're lucky to get a black job. These people and nobody cares about you here. Don't expect life to be rosy for you in your first 3months.

This write up is for every Nigerian who is planning to JAPA to Europe especially to Austria and other none english speaking countries.
I am making this right up from Austria and out of personal experience not hear say. I am also not making this write up to discourage anybody, instill fear or out of hate for Austrians but out of my deep analysis of the Austrian and European (none english speaking) society and to caution my fellow nigerians before to they get into serious regrettable situation in the quest to relocate.
I spent a fortune coming to Austria with my family some few years back but as of today I totally regret and curse the day, I made that decision.
First I came here as a masters student, with the hopes of studying to land a better job afterwards. I also came with alot of professional work experience from Nigeria. As of today, I have made over two hundred applications for jobs, all have ended up in rejections. 40% of the rejections was received within few hours of my application.
That aside, I will advice Nigerians before you JAPA it is good one considers the following which are some of the mistake I made;
1. What is official language of the country you are migrating to? If it is not English language, please do not ever waste your time and money going there.
2. How many Nigerians and other black people live in that country?
Few blacks live here because blacks are not accepted by Austrians systematically. Most blacks here are very unhappy and are always considering going to another country. Also the suffering here is way too much. Pathways to getting a permanent residence is not open for black people either as an Assylum seeker or a graduate student.
3. What type of jobs do they do? Most Nigerians are suffering with menial unsteady work abroad but they will never tell you. In Austria for instance the number of Black people on Professional jobs is less than 1 percent. Some of those jobs were even obtained after donkey years of hard labour. If you think your case will be different, sorry is your name. Most Nigerians in Austrians only distribute Newspapers in the middle of every night. This is only jobs available for black people including graduates. You will still see 50-60 years old men in the middle of the night still moving from house to house throwing papers. If you call it hustle, I call it humiliation. Why cant blacks access better jobs? The answer is racism and hate. The professional white collar job circle is bureacractically closed against black people from third world countries.
If there is any job available, their law has it that an Austrian is first considered, second are citizens from other European countries and prolly North Americans, third are asians and then subsequently are animals before any black man. This explains why you see black graduates who are jobless, either selling newspaper in the middle of every night, or washing plates in restaurants (the lucky once).
I will advice, if you earn 200k in Nigeria, no matter the hardship, omo stay home and do business. Yes, I hear of kidnapping, rising cost of living but Nigeria is still better than being a slave in Austria. I am also fighting to get a job in Nigeria, of which if i get any, I will appear in Nigeria with any available flight.
4. What is the acceptability of black people into their society? Austria have always been ranked as the most unfriendly people/country in Europe and infact among all the western countries. Austrians hate their own fellow Europeans. Within few weeks of my arrival I made friends with Germans and Italians. They complained bitterly of rascism and hate even when they speak Deutsch and also adviced few us blacks to be prepared for these experiences or leave the country. I thought my case will be different, but as the days unfold and I faced the worsed bitter truth.
If Austrians can express hate to their fellow oyibo, bros as a black no matter your qualification, you are less than animal in the eyes of an Austrian.
5. Check the number of Nigerian graduates in that country and how they fared after graduation. Do not be deceived by their offer of Cheap education. Those cheap education is not designed for black people rather for themselves. Now note this, they simply made that system so you can study there and go home. For an employer to hire you as a black, the law states that you must be offered 3600 Euros per month Salary. This is a country were the average salary per month is 1200- 2000 Euros. Which employer will offer a black man 3600 Euros? Again they demand fluency in speak B1-B2 Deustch. Deutsch is one of the most difficult Language to learn in the world. Again Learning the language does not guarantee you a job in Austria as a black. The rule of considering Austrians, Other Europeans, North Americans, Asians, Animals before a black will still haunt you.
6. How many black people own businesses or are in positions of Authourities?
One of the ridiculous and shocking things I discovered here is that most black people here are not Business owners and even as employees, they are always in the lowest cadre in every organization. This is bad a sign for any potential Nigerian planning to come here, because you will eventually end up where your mates are. You will see Nigerians who have spent over 15 years here still doing menial jobs. So when you hear them say,'I will help you' omo all na wash. They no get any levels. No Nigerian is a boss in any establishment. I also noticed that sharp nigerian graduates, disappear once after graduation to english speaking countries. Austria is littered with black people with Asylum seeking status. 80 percent of the blacks you meet here are on assylum or migrated through it. Those people follow spoil our names for Austria. So in the eyes of Austrians, both Students and other black assylum are all same. We are all treated like piece of shit.
Here doing business is quite expensive and virtually impossible for blacks. The best you can see are Nigerians collecting used tyres for export and maybe one or two who own African shops (barely 0.001 percent of all the blacks in the country).
Back to my job haunting experience, I have to be honest with you folks, I made a very beautiful result and grades yet I have not secured an interview in 1 year and 7 months. I have inquired from Employers, Employees, Government offices AMS, Austrians why all these rejection. The Answer i get is that, ' you are from Africa and we do not know who you are'. I am not surprised, Hitler Adolf was an Austrian.....Now you should know who Austrians are. Those documents that you pay hundreds or thousand to legalize mean nothing here except to tell your school that they are not forged.
So fellow NIgerians, before you visit that Embassy in Nos 9 Ufuma Street Maitama, have a rethink. Austria is not worth spending a dime migrating to. I fully understand the terrible situation at home, but I would not encourage anyone to experience the constant depression, systematic rejection, racism and hate I face here. I am still spending my savings from Nigeria and the situation is not getting better. As I earlier stated, my greatest joy will come once I land a job at home and go back to my Nigeria. Most Nigerians here are also fond of not telling the truth, they will never tell u the real situation of things till you arrive here. Also do not judge by currency rates (1Euro = 1500 naira blablabla). I also stated that the average salary in Austria is in the range of 1000- 2000 Euros. Euros used to be 250# and someone on 400k naira salary or makes such in business is way more better than an Austrian. Remember rent is paid monthly, including various insurance. A 10 percent better Nigeria is better than Austria.
Life is not all about money. If the energy you spend doing menial work in Nigeria is spent hustling legitmately in Nigeria, omo you will make it in Life and still keep your diginity. My simple message is ' Do not migrate to Austria and other none english speaking countries'. You will have yourself to blame.

Austria is a racist country, they don't like blacks, and they don't want blacks in their country. In fact it's better one goes to Germany (at least you'll know that your residence permit automatically allows you to work compared to Austria that requires any employer who is seeking to employ you to first apply for a work permit for you before you can work) than to come to Austria. The racism here is REAL! However, what can help you is if you're able to learn the German language to B1 level, otherwise you will find life difficult.

Austria is a crazy place for blacks to survive or make it. It is really tough out here. If you still want to come, carry better money come o, because there's 80% possibility that you may be jobless in your first 3months.

It was a friend that told me because I have not worked in a field related to my course since I graduated that they won't grant admission.

I would have tried USA but the requirements (including funds) and process is something else.

That is why my focus is on Austra.

Most Austrian Universities don't check all those experiences of a thing. Most oftentimes, after you have applied for admission (and please apply to as many schools as you can, applications are usually free), and have been shortlisted. These Universities will set up either an interview or an exam for you. The interviews are usually academic-related questions and some other questions that are also related to admission and academics. Sometimes they may set up a second interview if there is a competition for that program.

All in all, you don't need to worry about the lack of experience. Just apply, if your application is tight and very convincing, they'll shortlist you for an interview or exam, and that's all you need to prepare for.

I don’t know why those ministries can’t have a central secured database where all polytechnic, unis, NCEs and other tertiary will always deposit students’ transcripts and build a website where students can apply for this and pay online and the ministry gets the transcripts sent to the appropriate authorities either in soft or hard copies.
They would only need to agree on % of sharing the revenue from this application and the concerned institution and the ministry gets credited, automatically and instantly, with their own portion of the cash.
With this, MoE will find it easy to verify this document because they can also probe it from their database upon payment.

By the way guys, I just wrote a short mail to Austrian embassy, on behalf of applicants for residence permit process, on the need to have separate portal for those verifying and those legalizing.
I have my reason to the best of my ability but I would suggest if students can be coordinated on this and send more dignifying mails to the embassy on the same matter. Better still, students may approach MoE and MoFA on this for the two ministries to appeal to the embassy on this because those verifying tend to me more than those legalizing.

I assume the embassy has canceled legalization requests by applicants by way of sending emails, as it was being done in the past. That was what warranted the mail I sent to the embassy. If the embassy still gives legalization dates my emails but not my online appointment as portrayed on its current appointment portal system, it means my letter was needless.

You can do your legalization right at the point of collecting your documents at the Embassy after Verification. You just tell them you want to do your legalization; they'll ask you for which documents, and you present the documents which you want to legalize and pay. That's it. It's that simple and easy. I don't think there's any stress in doing the legalization at the Austrian Embassy.

Also, I'd like to advise everyone reading this post, especially those who don't know the process of the Austrian student visa application that the moment you've gotten and secured your admission, and depending on the agreement you may have with your university regarding submitting your legalized transcript and BSc Certificate (Some Austrian university can allow you to go ahead and apply for admission and then ask you to submit your legalized documents at a later date). That is if your school allowed you to use your documents which have not been verified and legalized to apply for admission. The moment you have secured this admission, you do not need to wait for the completion of your document verification and legalization to apply for a Residence Permit. The legalized documents are the school's requirements for admission, not the Austrian Embassy's requirements for a Residence Permit. The Austrian Embassy are quite satisfied with seeing your admission letter. Please go ahead and apply for your Residence Permit.

Send an email to the Embassy requesting an appointment date to come submit your application for a Residence Permit. The Embassy will respond with a date and a list of guidelines and documents you need to present for your Residence Permit. Follow their instructions, pray to God, and I'm pretty sure you'll get your Visa to come down to Austria and pick up your Residence Permit. That's it! That's how it goes. You'll come down to Austria and join the hustle

Please i want some honest truth about life in Salzburg as a dependant and student. Can a dependant be able to get some reasonable degree of work with or without German language knowledge ? Can the Student be able to get say a €850 monthly (20hrs/ week) job with or without German language knowledge ? And if we decide to do some German classes, how soon can we get integrated and be able to speak some basic German. Do we neccessarily need to write and read German too ? It is possible to earn up to 850 euros or there about every month on a (20hrs/week) job after tax and insurance without German language knowledge.

Usually, Most Universities in Austria arrange German language classes for their foreign students to register and learn German, and it is free. Sometimes even before you resume your classes for the semester as new students, they would have informed you guys about it via email with a timeline for registration. So, try and watch out for the announcement from your University once you secure your admission, and maybe pay your fees. Or the moment you resume classes, make enquiries from your program director or his secretary about such classes, and they'll give you more information about it.

Should in case you miss the deadline for registration from your school? There are other options where you can attend German language classes either at a discounted price or for free. you can check www.vhs.at for such options. They'll give you positive information about what I am telling you.

Your question is not clear.

As a student, you are not allowed (officially) to work more than 20 hrs. Where you are lucky, your employers can allow you to work overtime, at times. After your graduation and even if you haven’t gotten to job-search visa, your employer may apply for up to 32 hours per week for you and it’s usually granted.

I am sorry to say this: 20 hrs can pay bills. Just learn how to live within your means. If you get a job of € 850 (net) like in fast food restaurants, and your monthly accommodation is not more than €400, your monthly transport card (buy 1-year pass) is €33, your internet is €10 max because you will always have access to WiFi at home, what’s next is for your upkeep for the month which shouldn’t be more than €150-200 Euro. I assume your employer will pay for your insurance monthly.
You can conveniently save €200 except if you have debts that you are paying back home or you have other areas you are spending on. 😜😜 you and I know.

For extra work, people do it in an under-arm way but I don’t advise it because if you are caught, you would pay heavily for it. More so, it would affect your studies.
You can utilize your holiday period to work full-time and still make some bucks.

You could also be lucky go get jobs that would pay you €1k to €1.2k net in a month.

Check Adecco. They recruit for Amazon but be ready to work even though they well above €12 per hour.

Check at Der Mann Bakery, Anker, Billa, BIPA, Enny etc.

One tip I will give you is that the companies that pay well are usually far from the cities. If you can be commuting long distance, lots of companies are waiting to may more, even up to 1.4k net per month.

It would be advantageous for you if you can drive and you have converted your Nigerian driver’s license to that of Austria. You can get a small vehicle and be using it to move to the outskirt of the city where lots of companies are there looking for people to work.

Pay per hour is not static. Some companies can pay than others but expect from €8 to €15 per hour.

Check clevylinks.com. They are taking applicants on full and part time basis. They are just building their warehouse in 21st District in Vienna. They are from China. Be ready to work and be on your feet for longer hours in a colder warehouse.

Check fiveguys restaurant’s website. They accept application on a daily basis. They are like McDonald’s.

There are lots of them out there.

If you can’t work full time at your company during summer holidays, look for event companies during that period. A lot of them have plenty jobs because there are concerts everywhere and you would make money and travel round Austria and beyond with the company.

Adecco will not give you work if they know that you hold a student residence permit. Their clients whom they recruit for such as Amazon don't have the patience to go and apply for work permits on your behalf. Unless you know how to speak read and write German, then you may be lucky to be employed by one of their other clients. As for Billa, BIPA, Horfers etc. I don't know about other States in Austria, but in Vienna, if you can't speak German, or you don't have a valid work permit, they will not employ you. Even for the most stupid job position, they will not give it to you. That is the bitter truth. No reason to sugarcoat it. But you're free to apply to them whenever you get here to see for yourself.

If it's just to run 40 hours from Friday to Sunday and net that 1200-1500 euro a month, I'm ok with it

From Monday to Friday focus on studies

There's no way you can work for 40 hours as a student in Austria. If your employer knows that you're a student, he won't register you with AMS for 40 hours of work per week. Even if you're so good at what you do, and your employer wants to register you for a 40-hour-per-week job "AS A STUDENT" it would be difficult for him to do so because AMS may not allow him. Austria is not like Germany where it may be possible to work for 40 hours per week as a student. These people follow their processes very strictly. Your best bet would be if you're lucky and you get a warehouse job that pays well or a job that pays, and there are opportunities to work overtime (The overtime will not amount to 40 hours. It may be an additional 5 hours or about, added to your 20 hours). You may earn up to 1300-1400 euros as your monthly gross salary. When you deduct tax and health insurance, you may be going home with 900-1000 euros, and your body go tell you. You can work for 40 hours per week only when your school is on holiday after the end of a semester.

Secondly, even if you manage to combine two jobs, let's say a registered job with AMS and a black job, and you are working 40 hours per week, it will affect your studies. You need to excel in your studies to stand a chance for your residence permit to be approved for the following year. If you cannot get up to 16 ECTS in one year of academic studies, MA-35 won't renew your residence permit. During your studies, you would only be issued a 1-year residence permit which is renewable every year.

Unless you can learn how to speak, read and write German, then you can get a good job that will pay you well enough to earn up to 1300-1500 euros as your net salary. An example of such a job is "Doctors without Borders". They're always recruiting students, but you must know how to speak, read and write German.

I'm a lawyer, called in 2016. I'm married with a kid and I'm in my early 30s. My wife is not working, so I have been the one shouldering the responsibility, despite that, God has given me my own house. Three bedrooms flat in front and three bedrooms flat at the back, all with full pop, water heater, full tiles, in fact all the modern facilities.
In all honesty I made between 600k-1.5m per month.

Just of recent, the zeal to Japa to Canada has been on my mind through school route. I currently have like 7m in my account and I know I could raise it till 15m before the end of the year. The cost of schooling keep giving me issue. How will someone travel abroad and spend over 15m when I could used the money to buy hostel from people who desperately needs money or invest in real estate.

Another concern of mine is that the future of legal profession is reducing because of the amount clients are paying particularly in the area of agreement and other things.

Definitely, I won't be selling the house if I decide to relocate, the rent from the two flats will go to my mom and the least could only be 500k per year. I won't have issues sending money at home.

Please, I really need advice from lawyers that are there, how do you cope migrating. Is it advisable I leave, if yes, what are the first things I might encounter, if am relocating it will be with my family. I just don't want to regret relocating. The exchange rate is just too much

Please don't go to Canada to study law, it will be a very unwise decision you will make if you decide to go to Canada for study purposes. Also, I understand that the major reason a lot of people convince themselves to japa from Nigeria, especially for someone of your status is insecurity. However, my brother, e easy for obodo-oyibo o.

What I would advise is that you should first of all go and visit a friend or a relative in the country of your choice which you want to migrate to. When you get there, ask questions and see how life is out there. If it is something you feel you can cope with, then by all means, japa. Otherwise, stay back in Nigeria and create wealth for yourself. You have a good amount of savings, build on it and make some mouth-watering investment for your future, and that of your Children.

For point 7, the accommodation part. I want to state that although you can get a shared apartment for €350. Sometimes in some shared apartments, these €350 excludes utility bills such as electricity, water and internet.

Also, I don't know about other States in Austria, but in Vienna, accommodation is a little bit scarce and getting a student apartment in a dormitory is quite challenging. Sometimes you may apply for accommodation and would be on the waiting list for up to 3 months before you get a student-shared apartment within the price tag of €350 - €370. Because shared apartments don't come easily, and you must present to MA35 an apartment which you have secured and can register at the local district you hope to reside in (Medezettel) before they give you your residence permit, I will advise you to budget at least €400 - €500. I know it sounds expensive, but Austria is experiencing Inflation and the price of renting an apartment is surging too. Budget at least €1000 for security deposit (This would be paid to the landlord/landlady when you move into the apartment).

Make a solid plan for yourself as to how you will survive when you get into Austria. These rents are paid every month and don't expect to get a job immediately you land in Austria, no matter how skilled you think you are. So come along with some foodstuff and some funds that may last you for at least up to 3 months. If you can afford to come along with funds that will last you for 5 months - 6 months, then all the best.

If you are physically, mentally and psychologically prepared to study, live and work in Austria, then please start learning German. Start learning it from Nigeria, you will thank me later for this advice. Life will be easy for you if you can learn German to B2 level before moving to Austria. Learn some other skills like barbing, phone repairs, plaiting of hair, graphics design, photography etc. These skills can help you survive the first few months when you arrive in Austria.

Remember, it is not easy in Austria. Getting a job as a student in Austria is not easy especially in Vienna, because of the language barrier. So you need to prepare. Well I don talk finish sha.

Please I have been trying to book an appointment date for legalization at the Austrian embassy site but they keep saying they don’t have an available appointment date.

I sent a mail and they responded by referring me back to the site I keep on saying that there is no available appointment date.

If you really need something desperately, you would know what to do.
