More reason why we should start looking for options beyond the the major parties if they continue to produce poor candidates (not saying buhari is poor yet but he is heading in that direction)

I will support this idea when you are objective in analyzing national issue.

I would have expected a buhari in his first week to hold meetings with the stakeholders (including militants) in the niger delta, show them your working plan for the next 2yrs, do same with manufacturers, business community, miyeti allah (herdsmen), ipob and co.
Send bills to the National Assembly for special court for corruption, push for PIB, emergency economy power. All of these could have been achieved on goodwill in the first few weeks.

Very brilliant ideas, What Buhari should have done in his 1st week in the office by Obiageli one of the great nairaland political analyst:
1. Hold meetings with Boko Haram in the north, militants in south south, OPC in the south west, IPOD in south east, and herdsmen. This is necessary to assured them that we have accepted criminal gangs as another arms of our government.
2. To meet the manufacturers... manufacturers in Nigeria? seriously, I don't understand ...
3. A bills to the National Assembly for special court for corruption. This option will be baseless with the current set of criminals administering our justice. Angel will not be employ to manage special court.
4. Push for PIB, emegency economic power... all within a week ...

You are just too much.

No wonder! There is no way you will have this type of brain as a member of NBA and you think such association will produce any positive result.
Where is the immunity for a corrupt judge in our legal system? Which law in protec judge from criminal investigation and arrest?

The truth as at today is that NBA has become an association to protect criminal judges.

Majority of Igbos want Biafra, a minority prefer to remain in Nigeria. Majority of other Nigerians would want them to remain. I think the best way to kill the Biafra agitation is to allow only Igbos contest for the presidency in 2019 so that one of them can emerge president to give them a real sense of belonging. Let us then see if Igbos will still want out of Nigeria.

The process of becoming Nigeria president is clear. They don't handover the president of Nigeria to a tribe. You have to contest and seek for our vote.

Beyond that, Igbos are not interested in the presidency of your zoo. No matter who rules a zoo, it will always capitulate and never make head way. yorubas and hausa and fulanis have tried and FAILED. grin grin grin

This is one of the reason while it will be difficult for Igbo to become the President of Nigeria. You cannot get the support, love and affection of others when you never hide your hatred for their tribes and religion. Until God separate us, we will always need each others.

We used to accuse South Africa of Apartheid. They proved to us that they have matured beyond that racism by electing late Nelson Mandela as president. We accused the United States of racism, they proved they have gone beyond that by electing president Barack Obama. So when is Nigeria going to prove that we have gone past the civil war and anti-Igbo sentiments by electing a SouthEasterner as president?

Nigerians can only trust Igbo with that highest position when their loyalty is for Nigeria and not for Biafra. You can't eat you cake and have it. If you love is for Biafra, work hard to get, there is nothing impossible. But to trust you with the position of highest commander will be a disaster.
Politics / Re: Let A SouthEasterner Become President In 2019 by LFJ: 12:55am On Aug 09, 2016

I actually knew that some people seriously dislike the idea of an Igbo man becoming president. One, there is this suspicion of the person demonstrating nepotism by favouring people from his tribe if voted in. Though this is not right if it happens, I don't think nepotism can be worse than it is now and I think people are getting wiser now. Secondly, Igbos do not need to unite to support their kin before he can be elected president. That would even make him to feel he needs to repay them and thus use the famous formula of 97% versus 5%. Apart from that, it is on record that president Obasanjo was not the candidate of the Yorubas. It was Olu False that was their preferred choice. However, the rest of Nigeria voted for Obasanjo while his Yoruba people overwhelmingly rejected him at the polls. Contrary to popular views, it is not all Igbos that demonstate hatred for other tribes. There are Igbos who are nationalistic in outlook. Examples include Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Dr Ken Nnamani, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Ben Igbokwe, Dr Chris Ngige, Orji Uzo Kalu, Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka, Ike Nwachukwu etc. We can pick from among these. Thank you.

This is a statement of ignorance. The hatred the Igbo have for themselves is more than what the rest of Nigerians have for them. Why do you think others will like you and fight your cause when you never hide your hatred for them? You hate and disrespect others; so if they work against anything your interest, it becomes a case of tit for tat.

You actually think some Igbo have not done that in the past? Who was the leader of the G -34, the group of eminent Nigerians who fought the Abacha junta to a standstill? Was it not Dr. Alex Ekwueme, a former vice president in the defunct (northern)NPN, an erudite, well educated well experienced and bridge-building Igbo man? The group later metamorphosed into the PDP. But when it was time to pick their presidentical candidate, they preferred Chief Obasanjo, a Yoruba man who just came out of Abacha's prison then. Although the Igbos are mostly proud and resist insolence, it is not true that they do not build bridges. They supported Obasanjo, Yar'adua and Jonathan who are non Igbo. But I know that hatred for Igbos accounts for the stereotypes.

You can hardly achieve anything in politics by politics of prostitute, hatred and arrogance. These are the problem of your people. Until you learn the proper principles of politics, you will for ever remain misery in your political thought.

The real disaster is when you read something, fail to grasp the full thrust of the argument, and then attempt to repudiate the argument from a very narrow perspective.

No one disputes that the government and it's agencies need to keep the track of incoming and outgoing incomes.
No one disputes the need to streamline and synchronize all government accounts.
No one disputes that the government needed a single Treasury account or something similar if it helps stem corruption and abuse.

The point, which eluded you in your haste, is that a responsible government, a responsible leadership, does an impact assessment before embarking on major and potentially destabilising financial and monetary policy.

Keeping track of government accounts in REAL TIME is not rocket science. Any armature programmer can write software for that.

The issue here is about the sudden withdrawal of N3 trillion, about 4-5% of our GDP from the banking system.
From an economic point of view, this is not only gross lunacy, but actually very very Stuupid, with a capital S.

The bank of Japan , the ECB, the US Federal Reserve , etc, have desperately been throwing liquidity into their banking systems almost every quarter since 2008, just to rekindle and eke out some economic growth.

In 2008, the US Treasury had to inject the equivalence of 5% of their GDP into the banking system in order to prevent a catastrophic end of the entire global financial system and economy.

With that in mind, just imagine the government doing the exact opposite here in Nigeria, by forcefully removing the equivalence of 4-5% of Nigeria's GDP from the banking system , and at the very worst time possible, during a period of economic contraction .

Do you see my point at all ?
Can you see the type of micro and macro economic havoc being created here?
Can you not feel the chilling effects already?
Can we, the Nigerian people not feel the already Impending economic nuclear winter that is encroaching upon us ?

Economic common sense vs political bravado and expediency.

Good leadership entails taking carefully measured steps , not bravado.

Apart from the political criminals, people of your type who criticize all activities of government, even those you don’t have simple understanding are the greatest problem of Nigeria. Your argument is laced with ignorance.

Nigeria is not the first country to introduce TSA. Many countries have implemented TSA as a means of ensuring effective controls over government funds, and most importantly to eliminate idle funds from commercial banks. Because of sentiments and lack of understanding, what you see is N3 trillions withdrew from commercial banks, but you never asked yourself what were these funds doing with these commercial banks, for what purpose, and what benefits? These are idle government funds known only to political criminals and their allied in the banking industry to benefit no other people other than themselves.

The current economic issue has no bearing with TSA.

Was the government right by implementing TSA? The answer is YES because it:
• Allows complete and timely information on government cash resources.
• Improves appropriation control.
• Improves operational control during budget execution.
• Enables efficient cash management.
• Reduces bank fees and transaction costs.
• Facilitates efficient payment mechanisms.
• Improves bank reconciliation and quality of fiscal data.
• Lowers liquidity reserve needs.

Was it done in the right time? There wouldn’t have been a better time. What else are you waiting for as a responsible government when a fundamental lapse is detected within the system? You want us to wait more so that the enemies of our national progress can destroy what is left of our future.

In summary, the implementation of TSA is a wise decision, very timely, and perfectly in line with fundamental economic principle.

Economics has basic principles. Lacking in understanding of these principles will always make you look like a fool each time you open your mouth to talk. Between 2008 and 2010 was a period of recession in the United State. The US Gross Domestic Product was contracted by 5.1%. That was the worst Recession in the history of United State. The 5% the government of United State injected was one of the antidotes necessary to cure the virus called “recession”. All responsible governments already have antidote for each stages of economic cycle either through monetary or fiscal policies.

What many of your type don’t understand is that, for many years, we don’t have economy. There is no monetary or fiscal policy that can solve our current economy problem. Monetary and fiscal policies are to solve expected economic problem arising from economic cycle; they are not designed to solve a problem arising from non-existing economy.

Yes, it is the truth that we are in serious economic crises. It is true that Nigerians are in pains and suffering is becoming unbearable. But, this should not be an excuse to condemn what is generally accepted norm for a responsible government.

BLOODLETTING was an ancient, pre-science method of treating common and chronic illnesses by letting out blood from different parts of the body.

Back then, in around the 2nd century BCE, diseases were thought to be caused by imbalances of the humors, of which the blood was the most important.

Also tied this was the widespread belief that evil supernatural spirits were imbedded in the humors, which in turn, was the primary cause of diseases.

As with most pre-science practices, bloodletting caused a lot more VISIBLE harm than the IMAGINARY benefits for which the practice was promoted.

For good example, the side effects of bloodletting were:

1. Accidentally cutting off major ARTERIES , which leads to excessive hemorrhage, cardiac arrest and in most cases, death.
2. Anaemia.
3. Lowered immune response due to depleted white blood cells.
4. Infections.
5. Etc, etc.

Now, fast forward to Nigeria 2016 , when I think of the newly implemented TSA, when I hear all the chest beating, the celebration of this act as one of the cardinal achievements of the Buhari Administration, I am also forced to think about the PRE-science act of bloodletting ,and the EERIE similarities it shares with the TSA implementation in terms of Intentions, Envisaged benefits, and the inevitable Catastrophic side effects.

To be continued..

Disaster is not only when you have bad leaders. Having followers, especially youths with backward thinking is more of calamity than having a bad leader. How will somebody in his rightful sense against all avenue to block leakage? This is a usual practice all over the world. It is the right things for any responsible government to do. A government that is not fully in control of inflow and outflow of its money is not a government.
How do you want to plan when you don't even know what you have and what you don't have? One of the greatest problem we are facing as a country today is having many "educated illiterates" who suddenly become public commentators.

This will definitely count against Trump. The reason is that, first lady is mostly seeing as a role model and motivators to young kids. No parents either within the white or black communities will want this type of person to be a role model to his/her kid.

When young men in their thirties and forties are saying Buhari is their saviour, how else can one define insanity in its purest form? The worst that could happen is the emergence of Buhari who lacks the mental capacity to drive a 21st century economy. As a financial analyst, I will say that besides fall in oil price, our removal from JP Morgan bond index and resultant pulling out of portfolio investors left a big hole in our economy. This has been compounded by lack of directions by our economic drivers. We talk about diversification as if it is a short term initiative. I pity the Nigerian youths who are repeating the mistakes of their fathers.

Politics / Re: Why Tinubu Is Not As Powerful As He Seems To Be! by LFJ: 2:11pm On Jul 16, 2016
abubaka101:
There's an ongoing thread discussing why and how Tinubu got and maintains his "political clout".
For the record, am not saying Tinubu is not powerful. Rather what I want to open up is that the power of this "Jagaban" is grossly exaggerated. Let's begin!
His Exaggerated Power is Fueled By The Victory of the APC
When the APC won Tinubu used propaganda with his media influence via the Nation Newspaper, Faaji FM, the tv station TVC and even social media to flog the Jagaban term down our throats. Yet, the victory of the APC was not he's alone. Other powers in the North (Kwankaso, Atiku and Tambuwal, etc) and even in the South South (Ameachi, Timipre Silva etc), and even in the SW (Obasanjo, etc) played key roles in that victory. Some other powerful individuals who stay away from the media also played key roles. That was why when the National Assembly principal officers elections were held last year, none of Tinubu's "candidates" emerged victorious. And boy was he pissed! Thus the root cause of the media trial of Saraki and co. I'll write on this issue later.
Tinubu wanted the nation in his palm. But Buhari stayed out of the NA elections by travelling frantically as usual. But still Tinubu couldn't get it cause it was bigger than his clout.
He tried to wade his influence into making a House of Reps member, representing Ikeja constituency, become the Governor of Kogi State when the leading aspirant died mysteriously! This attempt was thwarted by "orders from above" as it was claimed.
Same thing goes for the ministerial list, he wanted more of his own, but national politics involves plenty of compromises and negotiations, something he had never been used to since he played godfatherism.
Moving on...

Tinubu's influence lies strictly in the South West :
Tinubu has been the predominant power in South Western politics since 2007. However, every attempt to spread his influence nation wide before 2014 had failed woefully. His party had never been strong in the senate/House of Representatives. His party had very few victories outside the SW. He knew this all too well. And all the political calculations he had made before 2014 shows that he knew that if he wanted to capture the center he needed strong support from the strongest periphery: the north. Thus in 2007, he fielded Atiku against Yaradua. He failed woefully. Again in 2011, he fielded the uninfluential Nuhu Ribadu against the PDP. He lost woefully again. But in 2011, the CPC was became a significant power in Nigerian politics after Buhari left the ANPP in 2010. And with him left a host of ANPP party whigs. And if you understood the CPC well you'd have known that a host of its members were northerners.
Tinubu realized that Buhari was his only option to capture the center. So in 2013 he teamed up with Buhari and his guys. This alliance saw the merger of three parties controlling two strongholds: CPC in the north, and ACN in the SW.
While the ANPP, the third party in that Alliance controlled limited parts of the North and some part of the South East.

3. Tinubu is an ardent lover of Propaganda and media distortion I want us to understand something about how Tinubu operates politically. He relies strongly on the media to project his reach for the people. Now he doesn't say much to the media directly, but heavily selects and distorts what stories come out about him and others.
For instance, he so easily flooded the media with news stories about how Fashola was corrupt, all in a bid to stop him from being made a strong member of Buhari's govt since it was obvious Buhari strongly liked Fashola. Ambode didn't have the balls to release such stories about Fashola on his own; but yet the stories emanated from the government of Ambode.
And do note that in Nigeria anybody who controls the media is extremely powerful and can send us going the wrong direction easily just by headlines and imagery. Tinubu has this; but not for long I hope. Sahara Reporters have fast gained ground as the most reputable media house Nigeria has ever seen since the time of Dele Giwa.

And that's all I have to say. And my closing remarks is to remain critical of any story you hear about Nigeria and any Nigerian especially politicians. They're all selfish and try to galvanise the country for themselves and their families.
Have a good day!
