IPOB dominates National Security Council meeting dailytimes.ng
The Chief of Defence Staff, Maj. Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, has said that the secret service of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was among the issues discussed at the meeting which President Muhammadu Buhari had with members of the national security council. The meeting lasted three hours.
Maj. Gen. Olonisakin said the service chiefs updated President Buhari on security related developments during his medical vacation in the United Kingdom. He also said that the Boko Haram crisis, clashes between farmers and herdsmen and kidnapping that were touched during the meeting.
“We have been meeting with Mr President for the last three hours. We updated him on all security issues around the country, within the country and outside the country, where our troops are,” he said.
“Of course, we have just updated him because he is aware of what’s been happening. He has been receiving regular briefings from the acting president and he has also been going through the print media and electronic media to follow the happenings in the country.
“After the meeting, he has directed on some areas we should look at so as to enhance our operations in the country.”
When asked what President Buhari said about IPOB secret service, Maj. Gen. Olonisakin said, “The issues of security, every security threat, all security threats were treated one after the other ranging from terrorism to kidnapping, herdsmen/farmers clash, to the IPOB issue. The president directed security agencies to ensure that the unity of the country is preserved.
“In his address to the nation, he talked about the unity of the nation which is non-negotiable. We have all been fully instructed to ensure that that directive is carried out to the letter.”
“We are going to enhance our operations in all the areas we need to do that. Like I said, he has given the necessary directives which will be carried out by the military and the security agencies.”
Explaining its “secret service”, IPOB said that the group was not set up as a standing army, but as a vigilante group to monitor and ensure the safety of its people returning from the north over the October 1 quit notice served on Igbo people in the north by a coalition of Arewa youth. https://dailytimes.ng/nigeria/ipob-dominates-national-security-council-meeting/amp/ |

Femi Adesina: ‘Okechukwu’ Buhari won’t abandon south-east thecable.ng
Femi Adesina: ‘Okechukwu’ Buhari won’t abandon south-east Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, says President Muhammadu Buhari will complete the second Niger bridge and fix roads in the south-east.
Speaking when a coalition of south-east youth visited the villa to declare support for Buhari, on Tuesday, Adesina said the region would get its fair share from the government.
He said the presence of the youth was an indication that the president had the support of south-east.
“The fact that a coalition from the south-east region has come to mount this solidarity rally for him is very significant because some mischief makers always say that the south-east region is not with the president, that is not true,” he said.
“It was in the south-east region that he was given the name Okechukwu during the campaign, it was in the south-east in Abia precisely that Eze Ikot Nne gave him a traditional title. So, we know that every part of this country approves the leadership of President Muhammadu Okechukwu Buhari.
“Last week, youth from south-south region were here to also show their solidarity with him. This gives us confidence that no matter what anybody does, no matter the antics of people who plot mischief, Nigeria will remain one.”
Adesina said the president would do everything within his power to keep the country as one.
“You must have heard our president yesterday (Monday) in his nationwide address when he said whatever it takes Nigeria will be kept together. And I tell you, whatever it takes this president he will keep the country together,” he said.
“Therefore, anybody who is planning something else should know that it’s just a mere waste of time, is like beating a dead horse which is share waste of energy. Nigeria will remain as one, President Muhammadu Buhari will keep the country together.
“And I also want to promise on his behalf that the southeast will get its due during the time of President Muhammadu Okechukwu Buhari. The roads in the region will be fixed, the second Niger Bridge will be done, everything, infrastructure, positions, offices, all that the centre needs to do for the region, the south east region will get its own fair share. Thank you very much God be with you all.”
The president resumed office on Monday. He had in a broadcast declared that the unity of the country was not negotiable. https://www.thecable.ng/femi-adesina-okechukwu-buhari-wont-abandon-south-east

Bukola Saraki Is Not The Senate
The constitution says the President shall transmit a letter to the SENATE to leave and to resume as President.
The Senate President is not the Nigerian Senate. Until President Buhari’s letter is read on the floor of the Senate, he hasn’t returned and as such can’t resume as President of Nigeria.
To put it succinctly, in the eyes of the law, President Buhari has not returned. The man who returned was Mr. Buhari; a private citizen.
I’m happy that Mr. Femi Adesina has accepted that the transmission letter for President Buhari’s resumption would have come before his appearance on NTA.
Therefore I would urge Nigerians to disregard the speech by Mr. Buhari as the President’s speech.
The man who addressed you on NTA was a private citizen like you, who hurriedly left his hospital bed to a nearby TV station.
The Presidency should not apologise to us; when it still has the opportunity to do the right thing.
We look forward to another speech from President Buhari, after the SENATE not Saraki, considers his resumption letter.

Politics › Buhari: I stand by my claim that President went into coma – Fayose by lightblazingnow(op): 5:28pm On Aug 21, 2017*. Modified: 8:57pm On Aug 23, 2017 |
Buhari: I stand by claim that President went into coma – Fayose By Emmanuel Ani Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has said that his agitation and revelation was responsible for ‘the return of President Buhari last Saturday. Fayose, who was speaking to leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party at the government office, said he stands by all his claims about the President being in coma on July 6, adding that he had no apology whatsoever for all he had said. The governor who reiterated his call for President Buhari’s resignation, said :”If not for our efforts Buhari wouldn’t have returned now. Buhari is sick and tired and even his physical appearance betrayed this and he needs to go home and rest. “Truth is that the pressure from me and many other Nigerians made the president to return home. They have been treating this matter under the table forgetting that the life of a president is an open book that can be read by everybody and anybody. “What I am saying in effect is that it is in the overall interest of everybody that we have a president that is strong enough to do the job. “Today, they have cancelled the Federal Executive Council meeting. You cannot hide the truth forever, it will reveal itself someday. You cannot continue to deceive Nigerians. “Every word that has come out of my mouth before the President returns, I have no apology for them. President Buhari was indeed in coma and one of those who visited him said his recovery is a miracle, that shows that he was indeed very sick. “Let Buhari go back to Daura and rest. Don’t send him to early grave. Buhari is not old enough to be my father, my mother is older than Buhari, he cannot be my father, he can only be my uncle. I am close to 60. “I stand by all I have said about the President. We are glad he is back, but don’t over flog him. “I am not a sycophant and I stand to speak for Nigeria. Somebody must be able to speak on behalf of the poor masses. This was how they deceived us during the time of Yar’Adua. I am not an hypocrite and I will never be one. “This country deserves a very healthy person. The office of the president is not for a sick man. The president is tired and should be allowed to resign and go and rest,” he said. “I have said it severally and without apologies. Everything I said when the President was away, I stand by them. “The president actually went into coma and this was attested to by what one of the governors who visited him when he was abroad said that his recovery was a miracle. “When somebody’s recovery is a miracle it simply means something very serious happened to the person. “Since the President himself cannot disclose his health status and also the extent of his ailment. It apparently shows that there is so much to hide. Not until civil societies and people like us started making noise. “You can’t be our president without us knowing what is happening to you. So, for me, the president went to coma July 6. “Today, they can come back and organise rallies and all that; they attested to the fact the President recovered by miracle which we are glad about. We are happy that he is back But when you look physically look at the President he is physically. You will see that he is emaciated tired and weak”, he added. Asked if he would oblige if invited to see Buhari, Fayose said: ” I cannot go and greet the president if invited and the reason is that such action would be misinterpreted to be something else. So, it is good for me to wish him well from a distant and be able to tell Nigerians the truth.” Denying that he ever said he would commit suicide should Buhari return home as being speculated in the social media, he said: ” I can’t commit suicide because of an old man. Such are from miscreants on the social media. Let me tell you expressly, why would I commit suicide? “I cannot commit suicide because of my mother. Even if they are burying my mother now, I will cleverly stay away from the grave so that I won’t fall into it. I can’t commit suicide because of Buhari. I never said that and will never made such statement. “Truth is that the pressure from me and many other Nigerians made the president to return home. They have been treating this matter under the table forgetting that the life of a president is an open book that can be read by everybody and anybody. “What I am saying in effect is that it is in the overall interest of everybody that we have a president that is strong enough to do the job, ” Fayose insisted. http://dailypost.ng/2017/08/23/buhari-stand-claim-president-went-coma-fayose/ |

El-Rufai :What President Buhari Must Do As He Resumes Today naijaparrot.com
Kaduna state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has dished out a piece of advice for President Muhammadu Buhari as he resumes work today.
In an interview with Channels TV, El-Rufai said, “Personally, I am very excited and very relieved that Mr President is back. Politically, of course, it raises Nigeria’s stability significantly and I’m sure (that) from Monday, you will see even how the markets will respond.
“For us in the APC and for many of us that are beneficiaries of Buhari’s political ascendance, this is a time of great happiness and gratitude to almighty God for bringing him back safely and well as well.
“I still believe that the President needs to be measured in his work hours. I would not want him to work between 12-18 hours a day as he used to. I think the traffic into his office and residence needs to be curtailed so that he would have more time to reflect.
“We have less than two years to deliver on most of our promises so I expect the President to refocus, make some administrative adjustments, (and) prioritise the three areas that he has always promised Nigerians.”
“We’ve been losing lots of cases in the courts. I think there is need to refocus work on that and bring back the anti-corruption war on track fully.”
On diversifying the economy, he said: “The efforts to diversify the economy should continue in earnest – and, here, I believe the 36 state governments have a major role to play because Nigeria consists of 36 states and any improvement in the business environment must begin from the 36 states, not just Abuja. http://naijaparrot.com/el-rufai-what-president-buhari-must-do-as-he-resumes-today/

PDP: I remain loyal to Makarfi – Sheriff nigerianeye.com
Erstwhile National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff, has pledged the commitment and loyalty of his supporters and loyalists to the ideals, goals and principles of the party under Ahmed Makarfi’s leadership.
Though he accused Makarfi of using the victory at the Supreme Court as a licence to victimize party members, Sheriff appealed to members and supporters of his deposed leadership faction to remain calm and refrain from further legal action of any sort against the party.
In a statement by his spokesman, Bernard Mikko, Sheriff said: “We hope the current spate of threats and outright acts of intimidation will cease so that millions of our party members would not start seeking ‘alternate platforms’ to secure their political future.
“While remaining loyal and committed to the ideals and goals of the PDP, we also owe it a duty to preserve our personal honour and protect the political interest of millions of PDP members nationwide, who are looking up to us for leadership. We appeal to our loyal members and supporters to remain calm and refrain from further legal action of any sort.
“We, therefore, appeal to true lovers of democracy, the civil society and the media to join hands with us to ensure that all forms of impunity, lawlessness and blind ambition are controlled and dispensed with.
“Nigeria is a constitutional democracy and acts that are capable of destroying our multi-party system must be avoided. As major stakeholders in the current political dispensation, we will not remain silent and docile while the democratic norms and values we cherish are being systematically destroyed.
“Whereas majority of party member and loyalists continue to dream; desire and pray for a united party devoid of divisive tendencies with the hope of quickly recovering the lost grounds; We, the concerned members of the People’s Democratic Party, committed to internal democracy; justice and rule of law, have observed with the deepest concern the recent negative developments in our dear party.
“Unfortunately and ironically, the six-man caretaker committee under the chairmanship of Senator Ahmed Makarfi is rather celebrating and pursuing the implementation of the fractionalisation of the party.
“The NCC goaded and guided by some ambitious presidential aspirants had shown clearly the paths of constitutionality and rule of law is not theirs to follow. How can the chairman of the NCC, for instance, explain the dissolution of executive committee members of states that were duly and legally elected to serve four years from April 2016.
“It is most worrisome that the Supreme Court judgment is rather seen as a license to victimize millions of party members.” http://www.nigerianeye.com/2017/08/pdp-i-remain-loyal-to-makarfi-sheriff.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Nigerianeye+%28NigerianEye%29
