While I agree with you that 'big brother' did not use Nigeria's money to run his show, my point remains that the show is a true reflection of how wasteful we are in the midst of the economic woes! In as much as we need entertainment, N90m + all the expenses used in keeping the housemates will go a long way if only a fraction is used for the show and the rest used to support innovative ideas from brilliant minds
This is a damaging type of thinking. It’s damaging because it restricts innovation, the West often use this ploy to prevent African nations like Nigeria venturing into the space business, investing in nuclear technology, investing in high-end developments and so on.It keeps African nations like Nigeria in permanent inferiority status to the rest of the world outside Africa. No nation will progress or create hopeful and encouraging environment for the masses if they only concentrate on alleviating poverty, since poverty is relative and never ends. Development and Nation building is not only about alleviating poverty and insecurity put also involves creating hope and encouraging aspiration that in turn energises youths, consequently society.

Good morning family. My name is Oyeleke. I have a degree in Accounting but due to lack of job, i have a computer center where I print, scan and make photocopy, but recently someone opened a big shop with state of the art equipment in my area and splash the price where people are now rushing to. Please I need a good Samaritan to help me improve my business also so that I can put food on the table for my wife and two kids. Thanks
If they new shop looks like it has a future and will grow you could talk to them to see if your business could be a subsidiary of theirs since you share a similar model to theirs only smaller. You’ll be like a sort of franchise and adopt the name of their shop. You get to share their resources and they get an automatic expansion and your resourcefulness and particular know-how. You all workout expenses and benefits by ratio or whatever….

Or

find out how to cater to the new larger business and their customers, which is what smaller businesses traditionally do when a larger company lands on their doorstep.

grin I want to believe this discourse is not for the sake of discourse

It's very easy to influence people more so by an esteemed personality (Leader-Followers). Majority of men don't think for themselves. All of us are subtly incentivized to do things.

My sister comes home from school one day and tells me of a particular boy that bullies her. I reply "and you did nothing and are reporting to me". Two days later my parents are summoned to her school. A pupil's uniform has been ripped.

"Take heed, beware of the leaven (doctrine) of the Pharisees" — Jesus Christ
Perhaps, but my main point is that Nigerians are no more deviant or corrupt than people elsewhere and actually I would argue Nigerians are possibly less deviant or corrupt than people in other nations. And this last is possibly the origin of Nigeria's overblown sense of thire deviance over others. The Nigerian state has become too morden and too sophisticated for the old modes of primordial sanctions to work in controlling how we relate to each other and society and still we proceed along on cultural notions of trust and reliance on individuals homegrown morality echoing from village and tribal past. People have left villages, different cultural perspective intermingle, different family structures are taking root, atomisation is growing, towns and cities have grown and adopted Western models, foreign influences abound in every direction, we're subject to revolution in information and technology etc.

There are answers for managing morden societies that Nigeria is failing to grasp due perhaps to misunderstanding the relationship between democracy and liberalism or and organising a nation teaming with a people whose majority is still transitioning from a premodial to morden mindset. One of them is informed by the classic liberal ideas of Utility Maximisation. The relevant subtext here is that of Bentham and Mill's conclusion that humans will always diffult to self interest. This means that provided with the opportunity humans will manipulate systems to benefit themselves, be they European, Asian, African, Men , women or Nigerians. The state therefore needs to work on the assumption that everyone is a cheat or will cooperate with others to cheat flawed systems for the equal benefit of all in the group while still looking out for opportunity to benefit a little extra from the beneficial cheating group. So one of the aims of the liberal democratic state is to create accountability in the system. Checks and balances isn't just limited to the executive arm of government but must be integral throughout the system, from to bottom, civil service, judiciary, military, state government, local government, town planning, superstructure etc.

From the above, it should become obvious if not clear that the effects or and repercussions of Corruption as it affects society is the consequence of the modern political state's failure and not the result of the peoples character.

A "good" prison isn't one in which prisoners are honest and law rules abiding of thire own violition.

Come to think of it, designing, organising and planing to run a model prison mightn't be all that different from what's required for the typical nation state undecided

Some act as if they've never traveled abroad. Such individuals may be surprised to learn that very many people have lost thire lives just for 10 dollars or less. There was a case in the UK whereby a man was stabbed to death for £2 or a little over, let alone labeling Nigerians deviant because a so called Mallam called another man a fool for returning a briefcase full of money. It is actually a warped kind of thinking to label an entire nation deviant because someone, possibly a Nigerian, in an "esteemed" position berated an individual, Nigerian, for returning a briefcase full of money but fails to see that it is also a Nigerian that returned said property.

Nigerians based thire entire system on trust and react with bitterness when that trust is inevitably broken. The West build thire entire system informed by the understanding that humans are untrustworthy.

When you go to many other countries, you see Nigerians committing crimes and trying to game the system. It's not like there are no criminals or people trying to cut corners from these countries too, the difference is that it is a deviation from the norm in those societies while it is the norm in our own society. You are more likely to be seen as a stupid or foolish fellow rather than an honest person by an average Nigerian when you decide to be honest and just in certain circumstances. No perfect system exists anywhere in the world, it is the people who keep on putting efforts.

You are more likely to see Nigerians committing crimes in other countries than seeing natives of those countries committing crimes in Nigeria.
Let's be seeing some statical evidence that, "you're more likely to see Nigerians committing crimes in other countries than natives of those countries committing crimes in Nigeria"

Nigeria keeps no records of crimes committed by foreigners. I have an underage niece raped (not even statutory rape but forced one) and impregnated by a Ghanaian teacher. Nothing was done to him and he eventually ran to Germany. Nigerians complain that People from Niger commit all sorts of crimes in Nigeria, let us see statics kept by Nigeria outlining crimes by Nationality. I’m no good at maths so consider the point rather than the mathematical salience here: if for instance there are 2 million Nigerians in Ghana and 30 thousand Ghanians in Nigeria; 50 thousand crimes are attributed to Nigerians yearly in Ghana while in Nigeria, 5 thousand crimes attributed to Ghanians yearly, which population commit more crime on average in each others nations? How many Nigerians are in Malaysia compared to Malaysians in Nigeria? What’s the population of Nigerians in India compared to the population of Ugandans? Indians commit crimes in Nigeria, lets have Nigeria’s stats for this, Let us have India’s crime by nationality stats’.

I'm reminded that European Expatriates mostly UK and Italians majorly used to sleep with underage girls in Delta state, during the Oil boon town era, they weren't prosecuted, no records kept.

Evidence is dangerous to those that benefit from the anarchy caused by lies in an environment where people believe whatever is told them without evidence.

Naming people gives the people named opportunity to defend themselves and thus potentially rubbishing such accusation, so why name people when the damaged caused by national suspicions is already damaging to Nigeria, which is potentially what accusers intend.

Trust me Nigerians are super talented and intelligent people but in this atmosphere they will never even realize it in the first place. I recall countless times I tried to sing to the hearing of my friends and they began to say things like you should just rap, you can't do afro beats. Like that's thesame me that the producer said I will be a big name with dedication.
Nigerians are not jealous people, stop trying to paint false images of Nigerians. In a list of top ten characteristics of Nigerian people would be 1) Nigerians Value success). 2) Nigerians admire the wealthy and praise them. 3) All Nigerians want to be wealthy since the society values the rich, nearly worshipping them. Nearer the truth is, Sahara reporters, Nigeria media generally, are often owned by politicians and influenced by their political owners to critic opposition in politics and to influence public opinion, mostly negatively and consequently Nigeria media has become trapped in one way of reporting issues, which is often from negative polemical perspectives. Besides this, they are influenced by the well-worn notion that bad news sells.

The Philippines and Nurse Migration

With over 11% of its population living abroad, the Philippines is one of the largest migrant-
sending countries in the world. It is also the world’s largest supplier of nurses. Filipino nurses
make up the single largest group of foreign-born nurses serving in OECD countries (OECD,
2007). Around 3,000 to 8,000 nurses leave the country each year on permanent visas.
With such high rates of nurse migration, the Philippines is where one would likely expect
to find a shortage of nurses. Indeed, Filipino policymakers expected as much when nurse
migration suddenly picked up in the early 2000s. “Sadly, this is no longer brain drain, but more
appropriately, brain hemorrhage of our nurses,” remarked the former minister of health, Dr.
Jaime Galvez-Tan. “Very soon, the Philippines will be bled dry of nurses.” (Asia Times, 2003

Nurses leave Africa to work in UK

03 March, 2009 By NT Contributor

African nurses and doctors have been issued almost 68,000 work permits to work in the UK since 2000, figures show.

Since the beginning of the new millennium, 67,685 permits have been approved for the health professionals from Africa, according to immigration minister Phil Woolas.

Medical staff from South Africa were issued 21,970 permits, while Zimbabweans received 17,845 and 9,740 went to Nigerians.

A further 4,475 went to Ghanaian doctors and nurses, 2,655 to health workers from Mauritius and 2,575 to staff from Zambia.

But Mr Woolas said the figures, released in a written parliamentary answer to Labour former minister Hilary Armstrong, did not equate to the number of individuals actually working in the country because they included extensions and new permits for people moving jobs.

'Not all those who were granted a permit took up the job and some may have been refused entry clearance or further leave to remain,' he added.

The Centre for Global Development, in the US, last year confirmed fears about the so-called 'brain drain' phenomenon by revealing that many African countries have more doctors and nurses working abroad than at home.

Why Is There A Shortage Of Nurses In India?

Although India has 2.34 million registered nurses and midwives, the Indian Nursing Council data says that we are still short of 1.94 million nurses. The main cause of this shortfall in domestic nurses is the medical migration that happened over the past years. India is the second-largest country from where nurses are migrating after the Philippines and we have our nurses working all across the globe, especially in Gulf, OECD and in some Asian parts. As globalisation progresses and demand for the nurses continues, the migration statistics also escalates.

It may be that at this stage the Nigeria demand for local content are unworkable because we are not yet ready but at least praise the sentiment.

The habit of taking responsibility for ones faults and mishaps is an admirable one but it seems to me Nigerians take responsibility for altogether too much and this is playing a significant role in our current difficulties as a Nation.

Some Nigerian, or persons with Nigeria affiliation, dies in some far flung nation abroad and without waiting for report on course of death, including fowl play by his or her immidiat associates, Nigerians start taking responsibility for the death by blaming Nigeria "Villagers".

Some Italian man murders his Nigerian wife and, oya, quick as a flash, some “Nigerians” go hunting for evidence so that the narrative can be twisted to lay the blame for the Nigerians death squarely on herself.

Officials in Malaysia maltreat a Nigeria diplomat – obviously these officials are ill-disciplined and braking national and international law – but, oh no, those that call themselves Nigerians have to find a way to twist it so that the Nigerian diplomat bears the blame and responsibility not the Malaysians….

We do this in every sphere of human participation
