Could someone please help upload a copy of the new blocked account opening form. Need to compare it with the one I have with me. It does not carry the section that caused a debate here in the latter part of part 2. I am talking about where one is asked to fill in an address for tax purpose.

I have read its content and there really isn't anything to it. It shouldn't scare you because worse is going on in Nigeria and still people are getting jobs daily. Your primary concern is to get the education first, finish with a good grade and then start the search. I haven't been here long but I have already seen three (make that 4 if i include my Indian acquaintance) people that graduated last summer and winter semesters and already have jobs. I was told one was actually posted to Amsterdam to work on a project. The funny part of it is that we were were both struggling with our german in the A1.2 class in January, so I know for a fact that his german isn't good (and he is not a programmer).

So my 2 cents is that you take things one step at a time. Finish your studies with a reasonable grade and then start worrying about how to get a job.
Ok. Can take some cue from this. What courses did these peeps study, and which city are you?

OK. So, I have been a Quora.com member for about 2years. Few days ago, I stumbled upon this question in its archive (I believe it hasn't been that long it was asked)

It is about job prospects after your studies in Germany...this was specifically about masters, but then, whether M.Sc or B.Sc wouldn't really matter, would it?

Ehmm...The responses are quite revealing and somewhat disturbing. So, in the spirit of brotherhood, I enjoin all active members of this thread to read a few of the comments and make a contribution. I do hope we get some inputs from our seniors in Germany, in respect to the true state of things when it comes to working after studies.

Here is the link to the question and responses.

https://www.quora.com/Is-it-true-that-foreign-students-doing-an-M-S-in-Germany-dont-get-jobs-after-they-finish-their-studies

Note: This is in no way to discourage anybody. I just want us to align our thoughts with 'a possible reality'.

Schönen Sonntag!
Anyone visited this link? Experiences were shared there on job search after Msc in Germany. They really are damn scary. We should be discussing this.

Hello fam. What are the career prospects in oil and gas for an Msc in Power Engineering (coupled with a B.Eng in Mech Eng)?
Somebody, please...

My bad, I only used the fancy word to refer to the generation section of the power sector since it is "upstream" in the value chain but it is rarely used that way. It is mostly just called generation. I really do not know that much about career prospects of power engineers in the oil and gas sector, but ladyF mentioned for instance that NLNG uses part of the feed gas to generate their own power which is true and so do flow stations which are basically field processing facilities for oil and gas, also called production facilities. Part of the gas along the process, termed fuel gas, is used to fire gas generators to generate power for the facility. You might want to look around those areas in the oil and gas industry even though clearly they are auxiliary hence smaller areas compared to what is obtainable within the power generation sector where power generation is the core process. That's all I know. You should probably ask oil and gas industry veterans they might have more for you.
Well said, bro! Got it! Gracias!

They give the two year residence permit. Everyone I know and have met received the 2-year permit. Munich is one of the cities that gives two years straight. It may be different if one is in another city in Bavaria(e.g. Ebersberg or even Freising)
And that removes the need to show fresh 8040 Euros the second time. Another reason to be in Munich.

Anyone studying in Munich, please. Does the alien office in Munich give u the 2-year visa complete from the start of your programme, or only 1 year and then have u re-apply for extension?
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: 2013 Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) Graduate Trainee by lobito007(m): 6:22am On Apr 24, 2016
vantage7:

Okay first, NLNG is not a "gas exploration company" as you said. Basically what they do is receive feed gas from suppliers (the oil and gas companies) and they process, liquefy and export as LNG and natural gas liquids, NGL. Then there's also the LPG branch for the domestic market. Oil and gas companies do the gas exploration and production. But a lot of the time, the gas is that which is produced from oil wells alongside oil unintended (called associated gas, AG) which would have been flared, but then there are dedicated gas wells which the bulk of the feed gas comes from.

Now, the gas to power you are referring to, that has nothing to do with NLNG. The gas power plants in the country are being supplied by the Nigerian Gas Company, NGC, which is a subsidiary of NNPC. They gather, treat, transmit and market natural gas to major industrial facilities like power plants and factories like Dangote's cement plants, which means they operate a network of pipelines. That is in addition to their gas export mandate via pipelines like the West African Gas Pipeline, WAGP, to Ghana, Togo and Benin, and the proposed Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline to Europe. I think that is where your attention should be. With the MSc you should be looking at the power sector. With your mechanical engineering background you'd want to be at the power plants. Hence power sector, upstream - generation.
Oh my! Many thanks for taking out time to make this lengthy contribution. Your knowledge about the industry is quite deep. If I may crave your indulgence of further questions, what in details is power sector, upstream generation? Never heard of that really. Did u mean generation of power for upstream oil and gas operations? Generally, can you please write on the career prospects/functional areas of a power engineer in the oil industry. Again, thanks a bunch.

OMG! Sighting this thread triggers memories. I was a hopeful until after the SHL test, when I got the 'unsuccessful' mail. Need some insights from you guys. I have always heard this classification of Gas&Power as a business venture. Yes, gas is used in generating power. However, I wish to unravel this: In gas exploration companies like NLNG, what are the career prospects for an Msc degree in Power Engineering (coupled with a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering)? Your ever-brilliant contributions are highly anticipated. Thank you.

Congrats brother, am yet to have mine.... Please can I get the interview questions that you were asked?
Thanks, and Congrats again!!!
1. Why TUM instead of MIT, a better university. One needs to be careful here. Do not say because TUM is tuition-free. I told them I was motivated by Germany's on-going energy transition program- energiewende(google it).
2. Your motivation for applying for Power Eng.
3. Questions on my work experience.
4. Laplace transform, integral functions, difference btw open loop and closed loop systems, something on euclidean matrix(cant remember the exact que), frequency in simple harmonic motion, connection of a capacitor and inductor, PID controller, and carnot cycle, which was the last que.

It is normal to not be able to answer all the questions. However, a clever thing to do is to say something you know about that topic. For instance, when I was asked something on laplace transform, I told her I could not give a specific answer but I know that the fourier transform of a function...bla bla bla. She then said 'okay, that's correct'. See?? she gave me credit even when I did not answer the actual question. The lead interviewer was a lady(she added me on skype wed night and I looked her up on linked in), and there was a guy who at the beginning said he was going to be a mere observer, but instead, ended up asking tonnes of questions. He made it a bit difficult at some point, making my answers look silly. But, I was unruffled. Good luck when your time comes.

Have you received result of your first phase?

My first car was a Toyota Camry 2005 model. I bought it from someone on Nairaland. Oh this car dealt with me. Barely three weeks later, I had to replace the engine, and that was the beginning of my woes. Every week, something has to be fixed! From power steering
pump to steering rack to the Fan, to the engine seat, I changed almost Everything in that car before I sold it off.
Never again will I buy a Naija used car.
TERRIBLE! !!
Evils that nairaland car dealers do. I can totally relate with this. Almost fell for one myself, but had to soji @ the last minute. I then bought a clean lexus SUV @ a car lot off nland, instead.

PS: permission to slide into your dm?

Hard luck!
That was rather insensitive, immature, ruthless and tacky of you. The guy feels bad already. Why would you conclude that this happened to him because he has ill luck. Why would you even attach something that involves error-vulnerable human processes to luck. Mistakes like this one happen occasionally and could fall on anyone. You think it cant happen to you? Do some growing up!
