He is expected to deliver Nigeria’s Statement to the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly on Monday.

There would also be a series of meetings and interactions with notable world leaders within and on the sidelines of the main events.

President Buhari will also hold talks and interact with the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki Moon, President Barack Obama of the United States, President Francois Hollande of France, Prime Minister David Cameron of Britain, Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, President Vladmir Putin of Russia, President Xi Jinping of China, Prime Minister Narenda Modi of India and others on domestic developmental issues, bilateral relations, the war against terrorism, countering violent extremism, the enhancement of global security, peace-keeping operations, climate change and the adoption of a post 2015 global development agenda.

Besides that, he will also address the World Leaders Summit on Violent Extremism for which he was personally invited by Mr. Ban Ki Moon during the Secretary-General’s recent visit to Nigeria.

The president will also participate in the meeting of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council, a High-Level Roundtable on South-South Cooperation organised by President Xi Jinping of China and the United Nations, and launching of an updated global health strategy for women and children in New York.

A statement from the State House, Abuja on Tuesday added that on “President Buhari’s schedule too were meetings with former President Bill Clinton of the United States, Mr. Bill Gates of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which is assisting Nigeria in several areas including polio eradication, and former Prime Minister Gordon Brown of Britain, the United Nations Special Envoy on Global Education who is one of the main drivers of the Safe Schools Initiative.”

It is expected however that the President will round off his visit to New York on Tuesday, September 29 and return to Abuja on the same day.

A prominent Katsina elder statesman was on Tuesday shocked to his marrow when his trailer load of rams as Sallah to Muhammadu
Buhari was outrightly rejected.

According to Newsrescue, President Buhari, a native of Katsina is reported to have immediately directed that the trailer be turned back and returned to the sender without delay.

This development further confirms Buhari’s statement during his swearing-in ceremony, where he said he belonged to everybody and to nobody.

Just recently, WashingtonPost adjudged President Buhari as the least corrupt leader in Africa.

Negotiation is still going on between the family of a former Minister of Finance, Chief Olu Falae, and his abductors as the latter has reduced the ransom demanded for his release from N100m to N90m.

It was learnt that the family had, however, been able to raise a sum N2m, which was reportedly rejected by the kidnappers.

A family source said the abductors called the family on Monday and said the family should raise N90m if they could not afford the N100m earlier demanded.

“At the time they called us on Monday night, they said they could only reduce the ransom to N90m, but we begged them to collect N2m, which they rejected.

“They said they would call us back today (Tuesday), but as I am talking to you. they have yet to do that,” the source said.

When contacted on the telephone, the Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Mr. Wole Ogodo, said the police were still making efforts to ensure that the victim, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, was released alive .

However, the Personal Assistant to Falae, Mr. Moshood Raji, alleged that Fulani herdsmen were behind the kidnap of his boss, noting that there had been incessant face-off between the herdsmen and the Afenifere Chieftain over their frequent invasion of Falae’s farm.

He said, “The Fulani herdsmen always invade the farm and this has caused a lot of problem between them and baba (Falae).

“Some weeks ago, we arrested some of them and detained them at the state command headquarters.

“There was a time that the secretary of the Fulani community told baba to erect a fence around his big farm so that his men would not be entering it with their cattle. He also threatened that baba should ensure that nothing happened to his people and their cows.”

Meanwhile, the Ondo State House of Assembly has condemned the abduction of Falae.

The House, at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jumoke Akindele, also called on security agencies to bring to book those behind the “dastardly act.

Akindele said the kidnap of Falae, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, was uncalled for, having contributed immensely to the state and the nation at large.

The Speaker also called on the Federal Government to consider the 2014 confab report which recommended state police as the solution to increasing cases of insecurity.

In the same vein, the state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Isaac Kekemeke, called on the state government and security agencies to ensure that the abductors were arrested.

Kekemeke, in a statement, said, “The state government must regulate the activities of these itinerant heardsmen, just as it regulates citizen’s use of public utilities.

“ These lawless herdsmen, if they must live in Ondo State, cannot be law unto themselves.”

In a related development, the South West farmers, popularly known as Agbekoya, on Tuesday demanded an unconditional release of Falae by his abductors or risk the wrath of its members across Yorubaland.

The farmers, under the aegis of All Farmers Association of Nigeria, South-West geo-political zone, also issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the abductors.

The AFAN S/W Zonal Coordinator, Chief Olusegun Dasaolu, announced the ultimatum in Abeokuta on Tuesday in company with the secretary of the association, Ogunjinmi Abiodun.

Dasaolu said, “The association is not unaware of the running battle between Falae and the Fulani herdsmen.

“We are ready to mobilise all farmers in the entire region to comb everywhere in the entire Yorubaland in search of Chief Falae.”

He noted that whatever affected Chief Falae on his farm could also affect any of the farmers in the geo-political zone.

He also appealed to Fulani farmers who had been living peacefully with their host communities across the South-West to join hands with AFAN in search of Chief Falae.

Dasaolu also called on security agencies to, as a matter of urgency, ensure that Chief Falae was released unconditionally and unhurt.

He said, “AFAN is not taking it lightly with the abductors; it is absurd, unacceptable.

“Our utmost interest is that Chief Falae should be released unhurt and unconditionally.”

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday lashed at at Senate President, Bukola Saraki, saying he engineered his own predicament.

In an article sent to DAILY POST, Igbokwe wondered why Saraki disregarded the wish of his party, by leading “a gang of forty thieves” to disrupt the plan of the ruling APC.

He said Nigerians should not pity the former Kwara governor, because he tried to be bigger than the party.

The statement reads: “One of the biggest problems facing Nigeria today is impunity. It has led to corruption, arrogance, brigandage, deep political crisis and outright murder. This pandemic disease has led to near collapse of our economy, collapse of values, collapse of institutions and collapse of governance. This high table mentality in Nigeria has led gullible people to take laws into their hands and damn the consequences to the detriment of 160 million Nigerians.

“This is the reason why Senator Saraki ignored his Party (APC) directives and connived with a useless party (PDP) we just defeated to steal the Senate Presidency. He did not stop there, the criminal arrangement led to the emergence of Senator Ekweremmadu of PDP as the Deputy Senate President. The moment this brigandage took place we saw wild jubilation in the camp of PDP. Ekweremmadu went to Enugu State and told his people that PDP is back. A lady who is a PDP member mockingly said to me: “yes APC won the election but we have taken over the National Assembly” it was then that it became clear to me the extent of damage Senator Saraki inflicted on the leadership of APC.

“What Senator Saraki did is unheard of in the history of Party politics. Saraki made the world to believe that APC leaders are unprepared for the task of governing this country. Saraki’s inordinate ambition at once put a question mark on the capacity of leaders of APC to drive leadership in Nigeria. Saraki tried to prove to the whole world that he is smarter than all the leaders of APC put together.

“Saraki ignored 51 APC Senators who were in a meeting and went to do business with 49 PDP Senators, a party APC just defeated after sixteen years bloody struggle. Senator Saraki bribed his way to the clerk of the Senate and cajoled him to proclaim a Senate that is incomplete. Saraki and Ekweremmadu criminally changed the Senate rules in order to carry out the open robbery we saw in the hallowed Chamber of the Senate of Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Because of the inordinate ambition of one man and lust to be the Senate President by all means Saraki ignored the President, the Vice President, APC governors, Senators, House of Reps members etc to sacrifice the unity of his party. Senator Saraki compounded the problems of APC, and mounted a major road block for its smooth take off considering that it is just coming to power after sixteen years in opposition. This man put spanners in the works and initiated a serious internal crisis within the ruling party that nearly made Nigerians who massively voted for APC to begin to lose hope.

“Saraki and his gang of forty thieves devastated the master plan of our great party to choose the right people to serve as the Principal Officers in the National Assembly. Since July 9 2015 when this shenanigan took place in the Senate and the huge dust it raised, Senator Saraki has remained adamant to disobey the Party’s directives and step aside rather he has continued to run from pillar to post to sustain a stolen seat. The lust for power, rapacious greed, avaricious tendency, and slave to public office have pushed Bukola Saraki to continue to work with PDP in order to weaken APC.

“But will Bukola Saraki succeed? Impossible. APC does not want Bukola Saraki as the Senate President and neither does APC want Ekweremmadu as the Deputy Senate President. Saraki has caused enough implosions within the party. He has brought public opprobrium to the party, he has slowed down the Party’s machinery from taking off smoothly, he has portrayed us as a weak party.

“Now is the time for him to go. Saraki has no choice than to go otherwise he will have himself to blame. Again if Bukola Saraki feels his hands are tightly glued to the exalted seat of the Senate Presidency and therefore cannot be removed, APC may be compelled to tear or cut his hands off, so that the National Assembly can move forward. No man is an island, and none can claim that he is the final word in APC.”

N.B: APC in this instance means Armored personnel Carrier

Tragedy struck in llesa, Osun State on Sunday when a driver of a police Armoured Personnel Carrier crushed two kids of the same parents to death.

Our correspondent gathered that the kids were playing in front of their parents ‘ residence when the driver of the APC rammed into an electric pole before crushing the kids to death.

Residents alleged that the APC’s driver was drunk.

The older kid, Sade was said to be five years old while the other one, Aanu was three years old.

Sympathisers, mostly okada riders, reportedly chased the police vehicle but the driver escaped together with the vehicle.

Irked by this, the angry mob were said to have attacked the ‘A’ Division Police Station at Ayeso where they vandalised all the police operational vehicles parked in the station including other valuable property and police quarters inside the station.

Policemen on duty were reported to have engaged the mob by firing tear gas canisters and shot into the air repeatedly to scare them.

It was learnt that the mob did not leave the station until they accomplished their mission.

The distraught father of the kid was said to have gone to the police station to collect the corpses but he was denied.

But the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, when contacted, said that the policeman who drove the APC lost control and hit an electric pole which eventually electrocuted the kids.

* Narrates her three nights experience in the jungle

From the expression on her face , one would easily conclude that she had yearned for the embrace of her family, as it lit up with glee. Clung to her husband , with her head leaning on his shoulder as a ready solace , she chuckled to herself at the remarks of everyone that gathered to welcome her.

https://www.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Toyin-Nwosu.jpg
Toyin-Nwosu
The gathering was expected , owing to her long disappearance from home, no thanks to her abductors who stormed her home and whisked her away, to the shock of her helpless family members.

She is Mrs Oluwatoyin Nwosu, wife of the Deputy Managing Director of The SUN Newspaper, Mr Steve Nwosu ,whose Ago residence was invaded by a seven-man robbery gang , at the wee hours of Monday morning. Though the robbers reportedly operated in other buildings located on same street with the Nwosus theirs took a worrisome dimension following the abduction of Toyin.

For three days , her distraught husband was a shadow of himself , as he ran from pillar to post , looking for how to raise the N100 million requested as ransom for his wife’s release by her captors.

The psychological trauma Nwosu went through as each day passed by was better imagined than experienced. Although he tried to compose himself before journalists , relatives and friends who thronged his home before now, beneath that composure was a mixture of fear and uncertainty over the well being of his better half.

As seconds rolled into minutes and minutes into hours and days, the long expectation of the arrival of the abducted mother of four was not dashed after-all, as a call was reportedly received at the wee hours of Thursday morning from one of the abductors , informing Nwosu to go and pick his wife in a designated place around Festac Town.

In this interview with Crime Guard, an elated Toyin who was full of gratitude to God for sparing her life, disclosed that she was kept in a bush at an unknown destination by her abductors.

“They came unannounced to our house while we were sleeping. They packed some things; jewelries, gold wristwatches and other valuables. I don’t know why they chose to take me away . But I was taken in a boat to God- knows- where. I do not know if it was a speed boat or not but it took us about thirty minutes to get to the jungle. On our way, I could only hear voices but the whole place was dark . We arrived the destination which turned out to be bush. I was kept in the jungle, not in a room. The three nights were spent there until I was released. The whole place was quiet and dark and I only heard the whistling of birds” .

Steve Nwosu and his wife, Toyin

At this juncture, she paused and then heaved a sigh of relief . Thereafter, she buried her face in her palms, apparently trying to picture the whole scenario again. On lifting her head, she smiled and shook her head before continuing. “ To my shock and disbelief, they told me that somebody paid them to kill me. One of them said they were hired to snuff life out of me. I do not know who their sponsor is because they did not mention any name. But that will not deter me from doing what I know how to do best- assisting people. I will continue be good to people”.
Asked if she was fed during her stay there, she replied, “ They asked me to eat but I refused. At a point, I had to accept when they begged me to eat but when the food was brought, I refused to eat. I was even given the opportunity to request for any food of my choice .In my conversation with some of them, they claimed to be graduates and blamed what they were doing on unemployment. They treated me like a queen because of the money they were expecting . But I thank God for touching their hearts to release me and not to kill me as they claimed they were paid to do” .

Asked if any other person was brought to the bush, she shook her head, noting that she was the only one there at the time.

Release at last!
“ At a point I was begging them to release me. But they said they won’t because my husband had not paid the ransom. I told them that my husband did not have money, that he was a bloody journalist. But they said we were rich because of the calibre of people that visited my husband and that we have invited the police . I told them that we just have people that are good to us. I continued begging them, especially the one that was beside me. I told him to plead on my behalf and he assured me he would.

On the day I was to be released , the one that had been communicating with my husband came and begged me to eat , that he heard I had not eaten. It was in the process of begging me that he disclosed that I would be released that day .When I heard that I was going home I was so happy. Immediately he told me I would be leaving , I refused to sleep again . But they said that they won’t take me out during the day .

So, when it was time, I was taken again in a boat and before I knew it I found my self under Festac new bridge around 2:15am on Thursday. They did not give me money for transport because they knew someone would be waiting for me there. The only thing they gave me was a phone which they said I should call my husband any time I got to land.

“I don’t know why they treated me the way they did but I strongly believe that it was prayer that was at work. It was God that made them treat me nicely. But criminals will always be criminals. I thank God and every other person that played a role in my freedom. Irrespective of what has happened I will keep doing good. I believe that the good I am doing will surely get me to higher places. Most times people may pay you back with wrong action but I encourage people not to be weighed down by this. Rather, they should continue to be good and see it as something they are doing for God”. She said.
