" I called a senior who came in, assessed her and told me privately that she won't make it. He told me to continue masterly activity which I did." This was the turning point in this encounter. The young doctor practically lost the drive at this point. No sane Doctor gives a final verdict on a patient who is still alive. |
blackgig:You are right, but the Director of national intelligence is in a committee(National security committee) chaired by the NSA in the absence of the presidency. Though that doent take away direct access. You are right. |
win2kwire:Am quite willing to engage you on this issue in as much as you drop the byline Nigerian Mentality" you used You would agree with me that the closest military advicer to the president is the NSA who's influence on the president is second to none.for the records you mentioned his influence on the office of the COD and COAs and their advice and recommendation to him. Can you please tell me why a National Security Advicer would want to become the minister of Defence despite the enormous influence at his disposal, compared to the politiking that comes with the post of the minister. purchasing military equipments isnt just an operational matter a lot of things has to be taken into consideration as there are lots of back deals, international negotiations and deals that go into arms procurement... Arms trade isnt oil or any other business negotiation bro. if you tell me purchasing uniforms, trucks etc the NA procument unit can do that, but when it comes to strategic weapon acquisition the defence headquaters only states its need, the office of the NSA does the sourcing. why would i want to be the Minister of Defence when i have the following departments under me:.Departments of Internal Security Defence Affairs Economic Intelligence Special Duties Counter-terrorism Centre Lawful Interception Behavioural Analysis Policy and Strategy External Security Administration and Finance Presidential Communication Command and Control Centre. And i have a budget that isnt under the scrutiny of any senate? None of the NSA have gone on to be Ministers:Andrew Azazi(former COAS,CODS),Sambo Dasuki(ADC to Babangida, coup ploter that lead Buhari into power and lead IBB into Power) Mohammed Babagana Monguno( former chief of defense intelligence), Aliyu Mohammed Gusau (twice NSA, former chief of Army staff) None of this men would leave the most strategic military position in the world to become a celebrity minister as Buhari would put it. The National Security Advisor is appointed by the President but not confirmed by the Senate, which protects the position to some degree from political controversy and partisanship. All other military chief, ministers are subject to this The Department of State Security is in the office of the National Security Adviser. The National Intelligence Agency also report to him. No army general/Minister would lead a war without proper directive from this agencies. The Minister of Defence only supervises Army logistics. give me an instance where any has done more than that. The office is mostly responsible for the oversight functions of the President security vote. Yes he does coordinate i agree with you but i hope you know no one his kind of influence on National security. |
Alexkene:Yes they would, infact the present NSA Advisor is a retired Major-General, the CDS, and Burtai, report to him. Not even the Minister of Defence has the power at his disposal. In the US only the smartest of individuals: professors, ex military guys, diplomat become NSA, google the NSA and you would know what am saying, Its purely an intellectual position in saner climes. A good NSA adviser would stop the Biafra movement before it started without the army shooting a gun, he would know that solving the Boko haram problem can be archieved through creating employment which would inturn limit the number of recruits available for Boko Haram, he would know that education is needed to solve the problem totally. only the finest of men become NSA in China, us,UK and France. In Nigeria here are some of the power he has 1 He can see the president at any fuuuuuking time nobody can stop him. 2 His appointment is not confirmed by anybody. 3 only the president can order his arrest:he knows to much, for instance Sambo wasnt sacked immediately Buhari came into power, and only the president can give orders for his investigation 4 His budgetary allocation isnt even under the juridiction of the Minister of Finance or CBN governor(Okonjo IWEAlLA cont question Dasuki's request), he could demand any amount from the treasury as long as the president assets to it. 5 He has the finest Millitary men at his disposal inform of special units who answer to no one except himself and the president. 6 He over see's all arms procurement for the millitary. 7 He is the last stop in all matters concerning security before the president. 8 He answers to no one except the president In the US, the NSA is supported by Four(not sure) assistant NSA who have experience in different sector, he cordinates the powerful National Security Agency,CIA, FBI and other government agencies... |
TonyeBarcanista:With all due respect, i would suggest you dont make universal statements based on assumptions, how can you say all over the world, let take the United states as a case study here, it might interest you to know that no member of the Armed forces holds an ounce of power within the united states, infact the director of the FBI has more power than the chief of the Army within the United states, out side the united states the Navy, Airforce and the Marine wield much more power than Army, you can never hear a United state president boast of the strength of his army, because America hardly puts foots on the ground even when they do so they use the Navy seals. Surface to say the Chief of Army staff in the United states has at least 10 other generals who share the same rank with him, you would always hear things like commander of the pacific region, Nato Commander etc. To the question, the Chief of defense staff wields more power than the chief of Army staff can ever think of having based on the fact that the Army/military runs on a chain of command, although in reality both of them are simply ceremonial positions as they are appointees of the government who inturn report to the National security Adviser, in the US the NSA is the alpha and omega of the nations security/millitary concerns, followed closely by the director of the CIA and FBI, the armed forces just carries out operational roles. someone mentioned that Brutai can stop a coup plot, lead a coup...i just laughed, historically no general or high ranking millitary officer has ever ploted a succesful coup( i dont mean the yeye coup that brought Buhari into power or those palace coups) by coup i mean the coup lead by Kaduna Nzeogu who was a Major that used less than 50 men to bring the first republic to an end, let me inform you that to plot a successful coup in Nigeria today just need to go pass the presidential guard and arrest the president and Vice president thats all.Brutai would start running for his life, The chief of Army staff that could not not pass an high way in Kaduna... You just need a young and influential captain in the presidential guard to lead a successful coup. , Gadaffi, Rawlings and that Gambia guy did it less than 50 men with guns. Again, we had better start praying against external aggression because the Nigeria Armed forces has no millitray might that can stop anything serious, the best thing they can do is peace keeping, and fighting Boko haram, before Buhari came into power Boko-haram had superior military power than the Nigeria Armed forces, the DSS and NIA intelligence gathering skills is Zero imagine the DSS going after a pastor and they cant stop a boko haram attack before it happens... In conclusion, till we have a National Security Adviser who is super intelligent and not just an Ex millitary officer, the Nigeria Millitary is a joke asides beating innocent civilians. |
NOT everyone thinks birth control is a blessing. Boko Haram, a jihadist group that terrorises north-eastern Nigeria, deems artificial contraception to be a product of infidel learning, and therefore forbidden. Its ideologues also believe that females should avoid school, marry early (sometimes while still children) and have lots of babies. In the dwindling areas the jihadists control, women have no choice. Even outside those areas, contraception is controversial. Boko Haram’s ideology didn’t spring from nowhere. Many Nigerian Muslims believe that pills and condoms are part of a Western plot to stop Muslims from multiplying. And in poor, rural areas centuries of experience have taught people that having lots of children makes economic sense. They can be put to work in the fields, they will provide for their parents in old age and, given high rates of infant mortality, if you don’t have several you may end up with none. Latest updates So the government in Kaduna, a majority-Muslim state north of the capital, Abuja, does not encourage people to have fewer children. That would be politically toxic. But it does offer free contraception, and suggest that women might wish to pause between pregnancies. It also promotes girls’ education—something that has caused fertility rates to fall more or less everywhere it has been tried. As recently as 2008, women in Kaduna expected to have 6.3 babies each over a lifetime. By 2013 this had fallen to 4.1, well below the national average of 5.7 that year. When Alheri Yusuf first heard about family planning from a relative, she hesitated. “I thought she didn’t want me to give my husband more children,” says the 33-year-old mother of four, as she waits for a contraceptive hormonal injection at a hospital in Kaduna. Then she realised that spacing her children would give her time to recover from childbirth. No one knows how many Nigerians there are. The World Bank says there were 182m in 2015, but this estimate is based on the 2006 census, which was probably inflated (politicians typically exaggerate the count to grab more parliamentary seats and government money for their regions). Most observers agree, though, that Nigeria’s population is growing at a cracking 3% a year. Many Nigerians see this as a source of national pride and strength. But the economy ought to grow faster than the population, and last year it actually shrank, thanks to cheap oil. To be prosperous as well as populous, Nigeria needs to educate its people better. This would also curb population growth, since well-schooled women tend to have fewer babies. In a sparse classroom in the city of Zaria, 15 adolescent girls swathed in white hijabs learn about reproduction, financial literacy and how to say no. The course is run by a local NGO and paid for by the UN Population Fund. The girls say they want fewer children than when they started the sessions in September, so that they can educate them well. Most girls in the programme will finish secondary school and delay childbirth (previous cohorts wed an average of 2.5 years later than peers). In places where female literacy has improved, child marriage and maternal mortality have duly fallen. Within Nigerian Islam, a debate rages between modernisers and obscurantists. The former may be winning. Lamido Sanusi, the Emir of Kano and a senior Muslim leader, has spoken out against child marriage, and proposes a legal minimum age (there is currently none) of 18. Yusuf Ali, a cleric who joined a debate convened by the emir, married his first wife when she was 14 and he was 26. But Mr Ali, who has four wives and 38 children, now thinks girls should marry “above the age of 15”. He also favours family planning, so long as couples use withdrawal rather than modern contraception. He even agrees that girls should go to school. http://www.economist.com/news/middle-east-and-africa/21721325-faith-and-tradition-favour-high-fertility-education-pulls-other-way |
EncephalonPikin:Bro, sorry i have no idea on how the system is in Uni jos, but i think that your UTME score is fantastic, just try and find out from anyone you know. All the best |
DROLA11:From an Human point of view, Medicine not possible but with God it is possible... I would strongly advice you switch to dentistry if the aforementioned 3a and 2b2 where in Maths phy, chem, Bio and English. Note: Buhari might scatter things this year o so am not sure. Check this Out:http://ui.edu.ng/news/201617-admission-cut-mark |
rafo200:Guy, i hope you get to see this, i finished from the university of Ibadan and i can say this with a high degree of accuracy: Most people in UI have average jamb scores with fantastic WAEC results, i know a lady who got into medicine with a score of 245 in Jamb but a WAEC result decorated with good grades in Physics, chemistry, Biology, Maths and English(4A's and 1B) and she got in on the merit list. while some people came with a score of 300 in Jamb didn't even make the list. In 2010 My WAEC Result gave me 44 point out of a possible 60( 1A, 2B2 2B3) while my Jamb Score gave me 24.5 points out of a possible 40 point, to arrive at a cumulative score of 68.5 %.. Although there is some sought of variance in the method of calculation today, i bet it isnt significant. What should you do? - if you think your WAEC result would produce at least 4A1 and just 1B2 in the following subject: maths English Psy Bio and chem, then you probably should have no legitimate fear you would make it. - if you think you can make a mixture of 3As and 2Bs or something similar, like 2A1 and 3Bs or 2A1 2B and 1c then i would strongly advice you go ahead and obtain a change of course form in other to change your preferred course to Dentistry based on the following reasons: 1 For last years cutoff point, Dentistry was 64.29 while Medicine was 76.5( a difference of more than 10 points) 2 There is basically no difference in Medicine and Dentistry while in school as they do the same course till their 500 level. 3 I would have suggested pharmacy but the cutoff is just as high as that of medicine,it was 70.8 last year. while the course is more entrepreneurial and lucrative than Medicine. 4 Dont fall for Nursing the cuttoff is always close to medicine around 68-69% 5 Few people apply for Dentistry, infact, it is among the least applied for" courses in the university. 6 physiotherapy is also cool but its cutt off is un predictable as it varies with demand, at some point it was as low as 57 while it was 66.9last year due to a rise in demand. 7 if you are desperate about admission then you can change to Bio-chemistry or physiology with the intention of crossing later but let me warn you: it is always difficult because many people share such ambitions which makes it extremely competitive, and Medicine might even refuse not to take you guys at all because a lot of people always come in through A levels. Final verdict: I would suggest you pray to God and ask him to direct you on what step to take, taking into cognizance his plan for your life, while my rational mind is telling me go for Dentistry if you think you can meet the above, if you cant then i would suggest you go for a course like physiology or Bio-chem.... UI is the easiest university to get into within Nigeria Check this links for cuttoff points(last year),http://ui.edu.ng/news/201617-admission-cut-mark Note: Buhari might scatter things this year o so am not sure. |
hunniebun:Fear not child |
sarrki:Sarrki, your comments are "legendary" this days, BTW, my thoughts are with the General at this point, if the eventual happens earlier than expected the consequences could mar the Nation's polity, Wish him speedy recovery. |
romeoetin:Guy, its one of the best things that can happen to a guy, you should cherish your mental innocence for now before you enter the Nigeria dating world of games, intrigues and love. |
ReneeNuttall:My earliest memories of the 1990s was living in a room and palour with ash like colour sofas, a big Tv in the sitting room with side stood that serves as a temporary bookshelf or mobile dinning room whenever it was time to eat not to forget Tv programs like work it out, and NTA network news |
ReneeNuttall:LOl, guess we both are, you just made me remember growing up in that era, where Room and Palour was the word. |
ReneeNuttall:Parlour" you must have lived through the 1990s, |

agroronnie:agroronnie agroronnie agroronnie! How many times did i call you?, please leave EY for the younger ones, ![]() |
adioolayi:Ohhh My Lord!, this is so true |
All this Hausa girls are either beautiful" or normal. i have some sought of superficial attraction for Hausa/ Arab ladies especially the ones that are well educated, in my opinion: they are usually classy and carry an aura of dignity around themselves. ![]() |
sisisioge:Dear sisisioge, am sure you don't make choices based on public opinion, so i dont think you should make an attempt at measuring mine against the court public opinion. What drew my attention to your comment was your opinion about the girl not repping" Ibadan well. The other part of my comment was targeted at those who seem to brand the girl as unworthy because of her appearance, am sure you would have read through some comments that are off point here. |
Principe67:Young man, i would like to assume that you and i haven't had any form of encounter before now, neither do you know my beliefs system to have called me an hypocrite, i simply aired my opinion on an issue and your next line of action was judgemental, to the best of my knowledge i think that's disrespectful. |
sisisioge:How is it an insult on Ibadan?, a lady decided to be appear basic, and the whole" of twitter is laughing at her including some ladies on Nairaland, this girl is honorable at the moment, her manners brought her fame not her sophistication.... how many girls are actually beautiful.... Nigerians getting their values wrong, even the so called morraly corrupt USA do not judge women based on their dressing or shhpositication but the depth of their knowledge, Okonjo iweala, Oby,Adeosun, etc look wors than this girl, yet successful, while all this makeup girls and headturning girls at best end up as a trophy wife. I wont blame men for degrading ladies, when most ladies see themselves as objects and derive their self esteem form their physical appearance.. |
Jazmiynne:Well you are right, success is such a loose word, it can mean anything though Nigerians stereotypes seems to agree that being rich is the definition of success, unlike the American society where you see a varied definition of what success is, they cherish things like having a family member that went to war, writing a book, giving to philanthropy, starting something amongst many other personalized definition of success. But here in Nigeria, the unasked question when you meet most people is: "who are you" which is majorly about your financial standing, depending on you answer that question in the course of the conversation through the mind of people, you are put on a scale. Nigeria would make sense the day rules are respected, people shun sycophancy, people stop financial discrimination, and start asking the question: am i really doing the right thing? in all their endeavors. |
mayoor15:Dear Mayowa, we have noticed your zeal to succeed and your unending desire for excellence which has put the firm aviation's segment on a position of enviable stance in just one year. To this end the board has decided that you be the one to kick start the Iraq branch of our energy consulting arm.please accept my sincere wishes. Adaobi Sanusi Global head of human capital Sahara Group See what i said, you also want to leave the country?.... why not run things here to by following Tony cole's advice on twitter |
Thavybe:Well you are right, but most time we throw passion away for the obvious. |
mayoor15:Guy,this power generation problem would be solved within the next decade, massive private sector investment is on in that area, not even the politicians can stop that. On the issue of grades i would like to suggest that there is noting special about a First class or 2.1 in Nigeria anybody can archieve it though most public universities make it appear unattainable. You probably wont be passionate about the educational system as you are now, when you get a job, rather you would be seeking certificates or certifications from world class institutions depending on where you work though. Graduate Trainee is for the masses(my self inclusive), our mates who went to Yale or Imperial college come back to Nigeria to sign contract papers and not write aptitude test, Forget that slogan of youths fighting to gain power(thats half truth) Nigeria is jaded, Nigeria is not a place where smart people win, you want to be an entrepreneur in a country where the interest rate is more than 14%? where people like Dangote get tax free incentives and interest free loans and you that is a startup is running up and down for guarantors..... You can only be a successful entrepreneur(like get a good ROI) in Nigeria if your idea is dammm creative and you are lucky, Good people like Tony Cole should help youths press for an inclusive society(well he is already doing that) On the issue of health, Buhari proved to be a scam when he went abroad to seek for medical attention, and Lai mohammed is shouting patronize made in Nigerian goods, who are they deceiving, a country where the budget allocation for the ministry of information is more than that allocated to the ministry of agriculture, government isnt smart enough to utilize the health sector disadvantages to its benefit, neither would any reasonable health care firm invest massively without doubt. in as much as i wouldn't want to admit, for individual success prayer or charm is key for individual success in Nigeria than rational thinking is,nobody(most) thinks rationally in this country again, Na joke o:You are presently seeking for job in an energy company, an accounting firm, an FMCG organization and a bank, In a sane country you would pass for a confused individual but in Nigeria you are quite ambitious. Do you and i really have a choice? maybe we do but that path is uncertain and long |
TheBatman:Guy, the essay doesn't mean anything, its not in any way related to the exercise |
Jazmiynne:In as much as I would like to agree with you about the girl’s action, I would want you to know that relationships between the opposite sex in Nigeria is largely transactional, and the guy unluckily” met a girl many assume to be different, hence dooms day for the guy. This twitter saga is just one of the issues we have in Nigeria. With regards to the educational institution, am of the opinion that the university system wont get it right until the economy becomes super productive, my premise is based on the following assumption: Mark (facebook) decided to drop out of Harvard because he knew he would be successful with or without education, Warren Buffert decided to attend a particular graduate school because he wanted to learn from a particular professor who taught a module on stock exchange… The same goes for Obama who became a community organizer after finishing from Harvard…. My point? This people grew up in an environment that allowed self expression since there was no poverty, people didn’t chase grades because their life did not depend on it and the universities in those climes were committed to real research and expression. And I think each person’s mode of assessment was different. And have also noticed one thing on Nairaland….have never seen a discussion on General Electric(GE)……people dey fear? |
Jazmiynne:Since you called me out am going to rant: Mayor, I share your opinion that the Nigerian educational system is jaded but I think its failure should be blamed on the society, most of us lose the zeal to achieve our dream within a year in university, getting an A is more important than translating the values of learning, Sahara would probably not call us if we didn’t have a first class or 2:1..so we prepared for grades right from our first year….. So I saw the Sahara mail yesterday asking me to submit my pixs for that essay we were encouraged to write then, at first I thought it was about the recruitment process but when I opened the mail it wasn’t. A part of me is scared another confident, On the Twitter stuff, I think the girl took it too far by posting the guys details online, that was slightly aggressive and the fact that two banks suddenly bought into such controversy is so funny. Is that pure genius or otherwise? But a part of me condemns what that guy did… , but wait what would have happened if the amount spent was in the region of hundred thousand would the lady have refunded the money that fast? Jazmiynne |
Lamzee:Guy go for Economics or go to another university to seek admission for your preferred course of study |
O boy this babe is not as "fine" as i thought |
adorablepepple:Hello, i would like us to have a simple conversation that centers around the wrong this woman has done by singing for her husband, without ignoring the fact that this is not the first time they are singing together. Again what would you have the woman do? behave like Tonto Dike and Tiwa Savage or write a book on it like Toke Makinwa. If she does the above what would seperate her from the so called secular individuals? You cant for state with a near perfect degree of accuracy that the man is really guilty considering the fact that the alligations have not yet been substantiated....anything can be alleged What do you want her to do? leave the father of her children in his most trying time? attend press conferences and support the woman who is about to bring down her family along with her failed career? cant you see that lady is so shameless talking about her sexual exploits without shame or recompense.. Note I dont believe in the pastor neither would i cheat on my wife but i would give everything in the world to have this kind of lady as a wife as a wife who would forgive, stand through the darkest of nights not join the crowd when things get difficult... |

not to forget Tv programs like work it out, and NTA network news
