Definitely, [size=20pt]Lagos can't be the worst place to work![/size]

That is a statement of fact.

But look, fellow Lagosians, Lagos is neither one of the best places to work.

As a matter of fact, except u're not a worker in Lagos, u should know that it ranks very low in this regard.

Fine, CNN has it's own bias about anything Nigeria, but there is a solid element of truth in this claim that Lagos is the worst place to work.

If u apply my philosophy about how to use news from CNN, that claim means that Lagos ranks very high as one of the worst places to work.
 
Lets face it. Patriotism is not the same thing as turning blind eye to the truth.

-A place where u have to jump in and out of a moving bus cannot be one of the best places to work.

-A place where people lost their lives as a result of bus drivers' stupidity, naivety and impatience cannot be said to be the best places to work.

-A place where u get to the office tired as a result of traffic jam cannot be said to be one of the best places to work.

-A place where one consistently pay N50 from Alagbado to Oshodi early in the morning and pay N200 to cover the same distance (Oshodi to Alagbado) later in the evening definitely cannot be classified as one of the best places to work.

-A place where only one 'Agbero' can hijack the bus u're riding in and make u face the consequences of coming late to work from inconsiderate employers can't be classified as the best place to work.

-A place where miscreants get applauded for displaying their madness on the road is not the best place to work.

-A place where majority of employers do not make provisions for accommodation and transportation but serves u query and perhaps salary deduction for coming a few minutes late to work after making u work well after closing hours the previous night is definitely one of the worst places to work.

-A place where most workers get home late at 9t and jump up by 4am in the morning to rush to work is not the best place to work.

C'mmon Lagosians, we deserve better lives!

But thank God, things are beginning to change. A journey that normally takes 3hrs now take 2hrs, U can now move in Oshodi during rush hours without anybody bumping into you.

Thank u Gov Babatunde Fashola! With u in charge I have no doubt in my mind that making Lagos one of the best places to work is only a matter of time. I have no fear about that.

But Lagosians expect more from u:

Pls, remove MOLUES off Lagos roads, pls.

Those things are nothing but moving coffins. Experiences on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, which I ply twice everyday, brought me to this conclusion.

People of all races will pay any amount to stay abreast of events and issues, and don't you forget that we are in the information age where a little bit more of information could determine the difference between a winner and a loser. Where agberos command more respect than the police.

Where the police people 'cannot live' without collecting N20 around street corners.

Where the few credible people can't contest for election and win.

Where human life is accorded no value.

Where people don't know their rights no more.

Where government has turned into confraternity in the name of Godfatherism.

Where people cannot do a single thing right except told and forced to do so.

Where the most powerful and influential youth leaders in the Niger Delta are all Millitants. These are the future leaders of
the region.
I'm a Niger Deltan, but when I look into the future I can't help but say 'woe betide Niger Delta!'

At times, I feel like the world should stop so I can alight. I'm the most patriotic Nigerian, but I will leave the country with the first opportunity that presents itself. Where to? Maybe Ghana, maybe Cotonou, maybe Uk, maybe Australia, maybe Dubai.
I'm not going in search of money. All I need is a re-assurance of sanity. I want to be re-assured I'm not the one who's insane. I want to be re-assured that it is the people I see and relate with that are insane.

Show me a sane Nigerian and I'll show you a thoroughly irritated man.


I don't believe in predestination, but maybe Nigeria has been destined to be like this.
In that case, I beg to withdraw back my pledge!

God help Nigeria. I love her so much.

travels and vacation.

Arriving home, late of course, they feel drained. The cause – another meaningless day at work. They are too tired to care about the kids whose photos beautifies their desks. They watch TV, they are interested in what is happening in nollywood. It’s a welcomed distraction from society’s own grim existence. They eat their dinner, painkillers and sleeping pills, tossing and turning at night, the alarm, and another day begins. They are caught in a seemingly endless loop of despair; "Treadmill of mediocrity,” one of my learned friends calls it.
The pay from their job is mainly to maintain their shiny cars and pay for their houses.

Then they zoom of to work in their petrol-guzzling, polluting utility car. It’s just like what a lot of people have. They are big and glamorous, giving a temporary sense of power and control.
Next they join the other sheep on the road, hating every bit of the drive through the heavy traffic to their various offices.

They arrive at their offices and march like the good soldiers that they are into their cubicles.

Here is the interesting part. They have substitutes of things that are of real importance sitting on their desks: Smiling pictures of their wives/husbands and children, the crucifix, a potted plant beautifies the corner of the cubicle, little lawn in a box complete with a miniature rake.

These people are slaves to materialism, prisoners in their 8am – 6pm cells called cubicles.
Then they look forward to break time.

Yes HR, you understand the concept. But not everybody do. And until they do, they have not started living but existing.

Oh yes, there is a difference between living and existing.

Simply put, existing is waking up everyday to a life of routine. To begin their day, people who are merely existing are awakened by an alarm clock at the same time every morning, and so starts another day of doing the same things. To them, routine makes life efficient, practical safe and predictable.
But routine is not living. Real living comes from the opposite; creativity and change. These are the mother and father of living. They (people who are existing) don't know that, so they suffer from a growing sense of anxiety welling up from within for unknown reasons.

Congrats fresh graduate! I was once one. But do we all have to start by looking for Job? My brother, my people perish for lack of truth, so the Bible says, but it still holds true today.

If you schooled in Nigeria, which I suppose you did, you can't claim ignorance of headlines like these:

SHELL to lay off 20% of it's staff.

FG to sack 33,000 workers.

Sokoto State Government sacks 2000 workers.

51,000 railway workers sacked without benefits.

Over 30 million Nigerians Unemployed.

500,000 workers penciled down for retrenchment nationwide.

CBN sacks 600 workers.

Access Bank to sack all Polytechnic graduates (whether you have a first class or not!) plus all their University graduates with less than 2,1.

Nigerian Airways to sack 1000 of it's 2,300 employees.

13,000 dock (Nigerian Ports Authority) workers to be sacked.

In essence, by working for someone else (at least full time) you allow your happiness and future to rest in the hands of other people, including that of your wife, children and dependants. You leave your future blank and unstable, and you lose the present and future benefits you will receive from a successful personally owned and easy to run business.

My brother, there are so many young Nigerians out there that are doing so well without paid jobs. Life is much more than that.
