Politics / Re: Saraki Fires Back, Says Oshiomhole Behaving Like Rain-beaten Chicken by Lovetoglory(m): 9:04am On Aug 11, 2018
Croesuscrown:
The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has replied the All Progressives Congress, APC, party Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, who had said that he (Saraki) would not only be impeached but would also be stopped from returning to the Senate after the 2019 elections.
However, Saraki who responded through his media aide, Yusuf Olaniyon, said Oshiomhole is behaving like rain-beaten chicken.

Below is the full statement:

“It is rather surprising that Mr. Adams Oshiomhole is behaving like a rain-beaten chicken, crying all over the place about Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, as if the Senate President is the apparition haunting his life and the sinking ship that he captains.

Having decided not to join the pigs in rolling in the dirt; we would not like to be involved in any meaningless exchange with the demagogue now in charge of APC. However, because he claimed that he was reacting to the issues raised by the Senate President during his World Press Conference, we thought it necessary to give the APC chairman some attention.

Alas, we found that instead of addressing any issue raised by the Senate President, his press conference merely showcased his obsession and those of his sponsors with Saraki’s removal, which he did without any decorum befitting of his age or his awarded office. He brimmed with hate, hurled abuses, threw tantrums, told lies, huffed, puffed. In the end, he said nothing.

It is indeed amazing that the same Oshiomhole, who is now describing Saraki as a politician of no consequence was the same one who only a few months ago was crawling all over the place pleading for Saraki’s support to become chairman. We are sure that those who took him to Saraki several times to plead his case must now be thoroughly embarrassed by his reckless and uncouth manner.
By his conduct and utterances, Oshiomhole, who accused Saraki of not acting in national interest needs to do more to convince Nigerians that his desperate desire to become party chairman is not simply to feed his over-sized ego.
The position of Oshiomhole and his cohorts in the APC that the Senate President must resign is a mere wishful thinking. They will continue to dream about their planned removal of the Senate President. They will need 73 Senators to lawfully remove Dr. Saraki and they will never get that in the present eight Senate.

The argument of APC that the Senate President must come from a majority party; that the Senate Presidency is their crown and National Assembly is their palace is only supported by ignorance and dangerous delusion. First, the issue of which party is in the majority will only be resolved when the Senate resume. Two, Section 50 (1) (a) of the constitution is clear that any Senator can be elected as Senate President. If the only thing left of the APC change agenda is to change the Senate President we can only wish them goodluck.

Perhaps, Mr. Oshiomhole needs to be better educated about our parliamentary history when he Stated that “For the first time in parliamentary history in Nigeria, we had a situation where the APC had majority of Senators and went on to elect a PDP as Deputy Senate President”. Where is Mr. Oshiomhole when Senator John Wash Pam of the Nigerian People’s Party (NPP) became Deputy Senate President in the Second Republic even when the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) had the majority. The same thing happened in the House of Representatives when NPP’s Rt. Hon. Edwin Umeh Ezeoke was elected Speaker in an NPN majority House. But then, it would require a level of education to understand these things.

What hypocrisy! To think that this same APC were jubilating when Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal retained his position after he defected from the PDP and still retained his seat, even when his new party was in the minority. These are people whose standards of morality are infinitely elastic.
We are sure the remaining APC Senators need to do a lot of work to bring Oshiomhole up to speed about parliamentary practice. His ignorance are too clear in his comments about how the Senate was adjourned on July 24, 2018, the distribution of committee chairmanship in the Senate and the difference between the post of Senate President and Minority Leader.

He has made so much song and dance about Mr. Godswill Akpabio resigning as Senate Minority Leader when he left the PDP to join APC. For this, Akpabio has become his hero and a symbol of honour. He obviously does not understand that the post of Minority Leader is a strictly party affair. And the PDP simply decided who to give it as it is not even a position that was mentioned in the constitution. Whereas, the Senate President position is a constitutional creation, which required majority votes of all the members. Again, we don’t expect people whose only experience in politics is at the provincial levels to understand this. No wonder they are talking of crowns and inheritance.

The fair distribution of the Committee chairmanship is one of the stabilizing factors in the 8th Senate and has helped it in achieving more than all its predecessors.
We need to inform this divisive element who now leads APC that if he wants to know why the 2018 budget was delayed, he should ask the heads of the MDAs. We reckon that should be easy for him since he is now their ‘headmaster’, moving around with canes to whip ministers into line.

Oshiomhole once again demonstrated his lack of sense of history by talking of Buhari winning more votes in Kwara than Saraki. We are sure President Buhari himself will disagree with the APC chairman. We invite the APC chairman to look at the figures of votes secured by the President in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015 to know that the difference is clear, like a commercial advert stated.

We hereby assure this garrulous, tactless and reckless APC chairman that a million of Adams Oshiomhole cannot remove Saraki as Senate President. His illegal plots, can only feed his insatiable ego and keep him awake at nights. But it will remain an exercise in futility.”

It is not about defeating him in the North, besides when you say North, please take the North central out. He wont win in the North. His strongest base is the North west, and with Kwankwanso and his Kwankwansiya movement PDP is gaining ground in Buhari's most comfortable zone. The PDP candidate won't do as poorly in those two zones as GEJ did the last time.

Politics / Re: 49 Senators Sign Against Saraki, Ekweremadu’s Impeachment by Lovetoglory(m): 2:24pm On Aug 07, 2018
IllegalMoney:
At least 49 senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria have appended their signatures against the failed attempt to impeach the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and the Deputy Senate President, Professor Ike Ekweremadu.

Recall that since the early hours of today, Monday 8th August, 2018, operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, invaded the Nigerian National Assembly and took over the complexes.

The DSS operatives also denied many lawmakers, especially those loyal to Saraki and Ewkeremadu access to the chambers while allowing access to those under the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Murray-Bruce, while leading other lawmakers against the alleged inversion, said APC senators are behind the inversion and that the APC senators planned on impeaching Saraki and Ekweremadu and installing Senator Godswill Akpabio as the Senate President.

According to him, ““The front gate has been blocked by DSS and police. The plan is to allow APC senators entry. Senators who will install Akpabio as the Senate President and impeach Saraki and Ekweremadu.”

He said the plot by the APC senators would not succeed as the PDP has the majority at the senate.

“It can’t stand. They do not have the numbers. I have been in touch with Britain, Canada, and requested from the management that the visa of Akpabio and all the other senators involved in this be revoked. “So that their request to go to London, Washington, Paris, Berlin will be revoked.” “What they are doing is illegal. What they are doing is against the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This makes no sense.”

“Senator Abiodun Oluijmi is making a nationwide call to anyone who has a big donkey we can buy for Senator Akpabio. Akpabio will soon have to sell his jet as his undemocratic actions of today will keep him grounded in #Nigeria for a very longgggggg time. #SaveOurDemocracy.”

Among the senators who appended their signatures against the illegal impeachment of Saraki and Ekweremadu are:

I wonder where APC will get 2/3rd majority to impeach Saraki
if saraki and pdp know they are not shaken or scared of anything, if they are confident that the senate leadership can never be toppled by any undemocratic means, they should just stop this noise and keep their smelling mouth shut for once

this is my verdict on whoever is spreading this fake news everywhere. "You shall know no peace all the days of your life". Everything about you shall be fake and obselete. so any time the APC senators gather together to discuss anything at all, it is impeachment they are discussing abi. so because saraki left the APC, those still remaining in the party should not drink water again. Who is this God-forsaken and jobless Nigerian spreading these news. how much are they paying you for this? That is why i earlier said, Nigeria will not be good because of the youth not the leaders. if the youths can stand up today and resist these thieving leaders of our time, all these menace will definitely stop.
Ebullience:
The Senators loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari are now converging in Sheraton Hotel as the plot to impeach the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu becomes glaring following Tuesday invasion of the Assembly complex by armed security men.

The Department of State Services, DSS, blocked all entry or exit from the National Assembly in Abuja on Tuesday.

The development is alleged to be part of the plot to effect a change of the Senate leadership.

The Special Adviser to the Senate President on New Media, Yusuph Olaniyonu, told DAILY POST on Tuesday that the APC senators have now moved to Sheraton Hotels to embark on the illegal impeachment of the Senate President and his deputy.

He said, “The Senators loyal to the government are now convening in Sheraton Hotel where the illegal impeachment exercise will be commencing.”

Politics / Re: Presidential Candidate: Nigerians’ll Help Us Choose Among Saraki, Tambuwal, Atik by Lovetoglory(m): 7:58am On Aug 04, 2018
bryner:
As the competition for the presidential ticket of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party gets stiffer in the run-up to the 2019 general elections, the party has said that it will rely on Nigerians to help the party choose its candidate for the presidential election.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, in an exclusive interview with Saturday PUNCH on Friday, said the party had heard that many people, including a former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki; Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; his colleague in Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo; and a former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, were interested in picking its presidential ticket.

He, however, said the decision to rely on Nigerians was premised on the party’s determination to avoid past mistakes, impunity and imposition of candidates.

According to Ologbondiyan, the party is not backing any of those in line to get its presidential ticket. Others interested in getting the party’s presidential tickets are a former Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau; former governors of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido and Ibrahim Turaki; and a former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa.

He said, “As a party, we have so many candidates already, but Nigerians will determine their next president.

“Nigerians are desirous of change; there is no argument about that. And it is more than obvious that the APC is bent on presenting President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term. The party does not have any other alternative. So, Nigerians desiring change can’t get it in the APC. They are looking at the PDP. We don’t want to disappoint them again.

“There are so many demands in the country now. Some people are agitating for restructuring, some want a leader with experience, not somebody that will get to power and wait for another six months before appointing ministers, some want young people. All of these factors will come to play in selecting our presidential candidate.

“Nigerians will signpost who they believe should lead them. We want to produce a credible candidate. Nigerians will sing the song of the one they want to lead them; the party doesn’t have any candidate yet.”

He added, “Currently, there are debates over the age of who should be our President, whether the President should be young or old. Therefore, there are so many aggregations of opinions, so what Nigerians say about the kind of candidate they want will inform our choice.

“We don’t want the party to be damaged again over allegations of imposition.”

Since President Muhammadu Buhari declared his intention to seek re-election in 2019, there have been discussions in political circles about who can successfully challenge him at the poll, especially in the opposition parties.

In a bid to challenge the ruling APC, the PDP and no fewer than 30 parties had recently formed a coalition in readiness for the next general elections.

Called the Coalition of United Political Parties, the collaborating parties and associations had signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly present candidates for elective positions.

However, this has not stopped some members of the PDP from signifying interest in getting the main opposition party’s presidential ticket.
Meanwhile, sources in the PDP have told Saturday PUNCH that the recent defection of Tambuwal and Kwankwaso has altered political calculations among some members of the party.

It was learnt that with the two leading politicians’ interest in the presidential ticket of the party, the number of strong contenders for the party’s ticket from the North-West had increased to five.

The North-West, which arguably accounts for the highest number of votes per zone, is Buhari’s traditional political stronghold.

The zone is home to seven states, the highest number in Nigeria’s six geo-political zones structure.

A top ranking member of the party, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, said, “Before now, the former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido; his former Kaduna State counterpart, Ahmed Makarfi, and a former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki (SAN), were the most visible contestants from the North-West.

“All three lay claim to their fidelity to the cause of the PDP throughout the years as strong selling points.”

This was earlier corroborated by Lamido in an interview with Sunday PUNCH, when he said, “If we (those who remained) had left the PDP like others, would there have been a PDP to return to?”

Until Tambuwal’s recent defection, the PDP had no sitting governor in the entire zone.

However, the arrival of Tambuwal and Kwankwaso in the picture has renewed PDP’s confidence of giving the APC and its candidate a good fight.

Authoritative sources within the PDP told one of our correspondents that Tambuwal had consulted widely on his presidential ambition before his decision to dump the APC, on which platform he was elected governor in 2015.

Some of the sources, who were privy to the workings within and outside the party, said Tambuwal was being considered as a possible candidate because of his age, educational background, cosmopolitan nature and experience.

It was gathered that the former Speaker’s experience in the legislature was also being considered as an added advantage as he was initially to challenge Buhari for the APC ticket in 2014, but had decided to contest the governorship of Sokoto State.

Kwankwaso’s supporters, on the other hand, argue that his popularity in his home state of Kano, which is reputed to have accounted for Buhari’s 1.9 million votes in 2015, and the support he enjoys in other states in the North is “as good as that of the President in the region.”

Kwankwaso, who was second only to Buhari during the 2014 APC presidential primary, is being considered as someone that could pose a threat to Buhari’s re-election bid.

The former Kano State governor has however left the decision about his political future in the hands of the party.

Kwankwaso’s spokesperson, Binta Spikin, said, “I don’t know about that (presidential ambition) because now that he is in the PDP, it is for the party to decide whether it will hold a primary or adopt a candidate.

“I don’t know about that. Until the party speaks, I cannot say anything on that. I can only hope that the party sees the potential in Senator Kwankwaso and give him the ticket.”

Another source in the PDP, who also spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to be seen as taking sides, said, “The candidate that the PDP needs is someone who has the capacity to deflate the support base of President Buhari (especially) in the northern part of the country.

“It should be someone who is seen as representing the entire country and will not treat those who didn’t vote for him with less attention. Both men are believed to be popular in the northern part of the country.”

However, Director of Media and Publicity, Atiku Presidential Campaign, Mr. Segun Sowumi, expressed confidence that the party would see what his principal is to offer and give him the chance to be its presidential candidate.

He said, “Atiku has over the years been convinced that Nigeria can be great and he also believes that so much of the greatness that people believe Nigeria can be rests on the leadership and he has also had the opportunity of being inside and outside government and knows what needs to be done.”
One of Saraki’s loyalists in the Senate, who also spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media, explained that the Senate President was under pressure to join the presidential race.

The source said, “He is seriously under pressure by so many groups, friends in business, politicians – senators and governors, traditional rulers and others. But as you may know, he is somebody who listens more and will only smile than say what he will do.”

Politics / Re: 2019: Who Will Be The PDP Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates? by Lovetoglory(m): 7:39am On Aug 04, 2018
DonFreshmoney:
Next month PDP will be having their presidential primaries to decide who will fly their ticket in the 2019 general elections. Previous week saw high profile defection of top politicians from the APC to the PDP; Three (3) Governors, senators and the senate president decamped. Although, yesterday NEC meeting by the PDP cleared the likes of Musa Kwankwanso (Kano), Bukola Saraki (Kwara) and Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto) to contest for the presidential primaries. Let's look at the probable candidates for the positions.

PDP Presidential :

Sule Lamido: If loyalty to a party is to be a factor in picking the party ticket for the general elections, then look no further than the Godfather of Jigawa politics. He is among the G34 founding member of PDP in 1998. He is a protege of Aminu kano. He does not believe in Ahmadu bello kind of politics that we see in the north now. He is the first candidate to declare his intention to run for PDP ticket far back in 2016 during his EFCC court trials. He is popular in some states in the North such as Jigawa, Kano, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto. He is relatively unknown in north central and southern party t of the country.

Musa Kwankwaso: The Current senator, and former Governor is arguably the second strongest man in Northern politics just behind Buhari. His political clout and movement kwankwansiyya is a force In almost all the Northern states in Nigeria, he surprisingly came second during the APC presidential primary only behind the winner BUHARI. He is also a popular figure to the masses. But this large followership in the north does not transcend to the southern part. As many southeners see him as an ethnic bigot and religious fanatic like Buhari. This may not fetch him the required votes to defeat the incumbent.

Atiku Abubakar: The former vice president of Nigeria for 8 years (1999-2007) is a regular contestant for presidential elections since 2007 where he contested in the defunct ACN and came a distant third with about 3 million votes. He also contested for the PDP primaries with GeJ and lost in 2011, and then contested with Buhari in 2015 for the APC and came third behind Kwankwanso. He has the political structural and National Appeal to me win. His restructuring mantra resonates in the southern region. But his problem might be his inability to pull in the required 25% votes in the Northern part of the country as majority of the citizens see him as an elite and corrupt. His major support is from the Governor of Ekito state, Ayo fayose.

Aminu Makarfi: He is a former commissioner, senator and Governor of Kaduna state. He is also the founder of a popular political and civil group: the centre for peace, and conflict resolution. He was the former chairman of PDP caretaker committee during the crisis regarding the sheriff faction, and he brought peace and tranquillity to th opposition party. The question is does he have the delegates to win the primaries? Apart from states such as Kaduna, Kogi, plateau and Niger. He might find it hard to garner votes from the remaining northern states, plus he has little or no followership in the southern part of the country to help his presidential ambition.

Ibrahim Dankwambo: A professional accountant and the youngest presidential candidate running for PDP. If youth was to be a factor in getting the ticket, then look no further than Dakwambo. He has the backing of few PDP governors such as Okowa of Delta, Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa and Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state. But he is not a popular politician in the North, infact apart from his home state Gombe, It will be an herculean task getting votes in the middle belt and other core northern states. His governor friends and youths in NIGERIA can garner him necessary votes in the southern part. He is the only aspirant that doesn't have a corruption case on his neck. This can be a factor during campaigns for election.

Saminu Turaki: in terms of political experience, this Kebbi born politician can be said to be the least qualified. He is famously known as the former minister of special duties during GEJ regime. I don't think he stands a chance during the PDP primaries as he is relatively unknown and don't have the political network and support for his ambition. He is thought to be the candidate of Goodluck Jonathan.

Bukola Saraki: The 3rd powerful man in the country, the unofficial governor of Kwara state and the current senate president needs no introduction to the political landscape of the country. His political network, national appeal and grassroot support especially in the middle belt region is a factor in the race for the ticket. Although, he may find it hard to gain the votes of the core northern people who doesn't see him as one of them (yoruba name) and also his attack on the president/APC can count against him in the core north. As the senate president, and former governor. He certainly has lot of help from his former governor colleague and senators representing different constituency in Nigeria regarding the ticket. He is arguably the most popular politician in the opposition party, and was recently awarded the National leader of the party.

Aminu Tambuwal: The former speaker of the house of reps, and current Governor of Sokoto state is a political collosus in his own right. It is known that the sultan of Sokoto, Emir of Kano and the governor of Rivers state is tacitly supporting his ambition. He is the second youngest aspirant and is relatively popular in the northern region. He was famously touted as the presidential candidates of the APC before the emergence of buhari at the last minute. He is loved by the southern region as they do not regard him as an ethnic bigot.

Vice presidential:

Ayo Fayose: The outgoing governor is a force to reckon with in PDP, he is currently the chairman of PDP governor forum, he is regarded as the second in command after Nyesom Wike. His candidate got the National publicity secretary of the party during their recent National convention. Last year he offered himself to contest for the presidential ticket of the PDP. But many see that as a strategy to be picked for vice presidential slot. He was also thought to be the arrowhead of the National chairmanship position not going to JIMI Agbaje/south west due to his personal ambition. The VP ticket is zoned to the southern part, but south south region is out due to the chairmanship position coming from there. He is touted as Atiku candidate.

Ike Ekweremadu: The Current deputy senate president was the highest ranked member of the party and the National leader before the defection of Bukola Saraki. He is said to be jostling for the vice presidential slot for a while now. He is very popular among the governors, also with the ambition of his boss Bukola Saraki to be the presidential candidate. There might just be a union of Saraki/Ekweremadu candidature in the PDP. Moreover the position is zoned to the south east/west region.

Peter Obi: The former Governor of Anambra state is an astute and humble gentleman, his work during his reign as the Anambra state Governor still speaks for him till this day. He is th only vice presidential aspirant that doesn't have a corruption case hanging on his neck, his business acumen and erudity can be of benefit to the ticket with whoever he emerges with. Also, the thought of Igbo being a vice president of the country for the first time in this civilian dispensation will gain massive support for the party, of course with the hope of Igbo ruling the country very soon.

My prediction:
Saraki/Ekweremadu
Atiku/Fayose
Kwankwaso/Peter Obi

What are your predictions?
una no reach at all. PMB till 2023. i see commotion in the pdp soonest after their yeye convention heheheheheh. na atiku go scatter all of them hahahahahahahahaaha. enemies of Nigeria!!!
