The US $593m (£460m) sale of 12 Super Tucano aircraft to Nigeria has gone ahead, the Reuters news agency reports saying that the Pentagon has let Congress know.

Nigeria wants the aircraft, which can be used for surveillance and attack, to help in the fight against Islamist militant group Boko Haram.

Nigeria's vice-president has tweeted about the deal:

The sale was delayed by the Obama administration after a catastrophic incident involving the Nigerian military.

About 90 people, mainly women and children, were killed in January when the Nigerian Air Force mistakenly bombed a camp in the country's north-east, which was hosting thousands of those who had fled Boko Haram.

Russia and Nigeria have signed a G2- G2 agreement that involves cross- training that will center on :Terrorism/ Counter -terrorism, Shared experience in Peace keeping, The Defence Minister of Russia and Nigeria met on the sidelines of this years EXPO.
They discussed the next set of DELIVERY of our Helios and they want to take a hard look at the YAK-130.
We are now OBVIOUSLY waiting on PAKISTAN, and unlike when we bought things Tokunbo Style it takes time.
Things that are becoming very obvious to me:
1. Last week the Russian Consulate in Abuja condemned in very strong language the recent bombing in the N.E. and pledged to work with the F.G. over the bh issue.
2 The Russian Def. Minister did not meet with the Nigerian Def Minister just so they could sign an agreement for Nigerian service men to play War Games in Russia , 2018 that is what Defence attaches do.
3. 2014/ 2015 Nigeria sent a Tri -service group to Russia and by all accounts they have acquitted themselves very well, IMHO something similar is in the offering - there is a history there on both sides if the Nigerians who went there did not feel they learnt from it THEIR OPINIONS would most def being sought.
4. This talk / discussion of Nigeria acquiring/ procuring a jet from Russia started last year ( summer) NOT from Nigeria from a credible Russian source.
This year (SUMMER) the two def Ministers met it is beginning to appear that REGARDLESS of the JF-17 ( coming) Nigeria is interested in buying either the YAK -130 or A PLANE from the MIG FAMILY.

I know but it can also wreck havoc if it's coordinated properly and I also agree that it can't be used in densely populated areas except mortars. In all, we seriously need those MRAPS OR Ivf asap

I've also noticed that N. A hasn't been making use of anti-personal defense mines like the American CLAYMORE and someone said we're signatories to the Ottawa treaty, that's why they've not been using it.

The Nigerian Army has used Artillery cover before ....... and it has resulted in on Blue on Blue in which a well known LT. COL was killed . Arty cover has to be carefully managed and at this stage N.A. are trained to fight through ambushes .

There is a role for the YAK130 aircraft in the light attack recon role and i see it specifically to eventually replace the L-39 I t also can be upgraded to even a 4th to 5th Generation at $15+ a pop plus training + infrastructure + parts you are looking at maybe $17.5~$20 M that is expensive for an Advanced Trainer

Great news, but not concrete enough.

Actually I read this from one of the tabloid magazines last night.I refused to post because of it's squalid reputation.
Having said that.Indications are emerging that Nigeria and Russia did meet on the sidelines.
There is credible evidence to suggest that Nigeria as they did during the GEJ will send triservice troops to Russia.
As far as procurement goes, although Baby steps IMHO, it is very likely that:
Artillery Systems will be procured
The Defence Minister wouldn't go to South Africa. just to sign a training agreement.He can do that in Abuja , these are baby � however these talks for a fighter jet Henry started last year from the Russians.

The trucks are for logistics purposes.
The AK-47 ( PACKO) will most likely be replaced by the now standard Beryl Rifle, and the modified Beryl Rifle
Understand also" parade ground inspection uniform and equipment" is totally different from what these men will be using in the field.
The G.O. C being there means they will have access, they also trained at Buni Yadi which they trained at the Na SF school located closest to the field of A.O.R.

Let me be very clear on one thing this type of INTEL is very dangerous but it is absolutely necessary, the IDF used it and in the past the Nigerian Armed forces used it and in order to bring this war to an end they are going to need to use it.

Russia Selling Su-30 Fighters to Nigeria
According to Russian media, the Nigeria is buying twelve Su-30 fighter jets from Russia, two of which have already been delivered. The aircraft has two seats for long-range missions and is known for its high maneuverability. It is is manufactured by the Sukhoi Aviation Company. There has been no public announcement of the cost or how Nigeria will pay for them, but, according to past transactions, the fighter jet can cost upwards of $30 million each. Su-30’s have be seen in sub-Sahara Africa before: according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Uganda and Angola inked deals to purchase the fighters within the last decade. The Su-30 fighters, and their subsequent iterations, remain a mainstay of the Russian air force and have seen considerable action in Syria.
Among other things, the Su-30 fighter is used in air-to-ground operations. Presumably, the Nigerian government is buying them for use against Boko Haram, the Jihadist terrorist group in the north. They might also be used against Niger delta militants operating in the country’s oil patch.
Details are sparse, but from the Sukhoi Aviation Company’s perspective, this appears to be a straight commercial deal. Nigeria has also sought aircraft from the United States, most recently the A-29 Super Tucano, a light, turbo-prop (propeller-driven) aircraft that specializes in air-to-ground operations. However, there has been opposition among some members of Congress and within the human rights community to the sale because of concern about Nigerian military human rights abuses along with questions about the operational appropriateness of such aircraft. (The Trump administration has since
reportedly given the twelve-plane sale the green light, but congressional opposition remains.). With respect to the Su-30 fighters, thereis congressional concern about possible civilian casualties from their use in the fight against Boko Haram. In the past, Nigeria has turned to Russia or China for weapons if its efforts were blocked elsewhere. A lesson for U.S. policy makers from this arms sale might be that there is always a willing seller of arms for a willing buyer—unless the technology is so advanced that only the United States can provide it. That is not the case with the S-30 fighter jet.

This is the first hint of official confirmation from the CAS there are two possibilites
1) Are truly god forsaken journalist misquoted him wrongly and he meant HELICOPTERS as in Russia or:
2) This will corroborate the CAS of PAKISTAN 'S tweet which will mean the JF-17's are indeed about to be inducted.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying, however the CAS 'S belief is beyond that : From the two years that the CAS has been at the helm his abiding principle has been in TRAINING, HUMAN CAPACITY in terms of Leadership, Welfare and then procurement.
There have been very good Air chiefs before DIKE and PETIRIN come to mind however none except the NAF CHIEF at the beginning of the CIVIL WAR have faced such daunting challenges, I believe this is what guides his decision making process, his emphasis and repeat emphasis on the QRF followed by the NAF Special Forces Regiment , followed by the NAF Base protection regiment is very deliberate and it stems i believe from one incident: The BH attack on Maiduguri Airport that destroyed two of the NAF'S newest MI-35, he has constantly drummed it into every serving member in the NAF (never again ) .
Today NAF have been trained in BASE protection by the British, another 450 are being trained by the Israeli and then they are gearing up to do another simulation of an air attack by NAF special forces on ABUJA Airport. this will be their third simulated attack demo in two years. As the ECONOMY improves i believe more drones will come into the picture , however they are more likely to be made in Nigeria.

I'm 100% sure that with that kinda money you would've been given full access to the 'AHRLAC Aircraft' research the money would've been used to co-develop & design a larger and more powerful version of the Aircraft which also includes local production in Nigeria.

South Africa has not reached out to Nigeria enough in a manner that would produce mutual cooperation between both Countries. The main point about this deal whether it is $450 or $600 m is that the NAF by extension the FGN and the current U.S administration believe it is in their own security interests for it to happen, this is one of the main reasons why it would happen.
The relationship between Nigeria and South Africa even though it is bearing fruits for both sides has not reached that level of mutual development on Security R& issues it is hoped eventually both Countries will eventually get to that level.

I will wait till i hear from the main sources : The Chief of Air staff Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar , based on his record of 2015- 2017. He has proved himself to know what he is doing.
Regardless of costs it is very evident that Nigeria needs these AIRCRAFT because what Nigeria has is not specifically designed for this kind of conflict, having said that this deal still has many hurdles to pass before it comes to fruition so biko/ jo/ Dan Allah let us all exercise patience.
The article quoted amongst other things that is in America's overall interests to sell the Planes to Nigeria, It will come with UPGRADES AND SOPHISTICATED GADGETS that will be responsible for precision and accuracy which means it will not be of basic configuration.

Congress can try to block effectively for thirty days, however and this is the Grey area , "45" after 30 days can then issue a waiver. You will then see the hypocrisy of America in action, first they will bring up the RANN bombing on a loop, then they will bring up the Nigerian Military , with Boko Haram and how the American Military helped decimate bh and then finally as has been clearly stated the state where the Planes will be built the Senators will start to cry about the jobs.
I t is not yet uhuru yet but if 45 wants to get this deal done unlike the waffling Obama it means it s a done deal, they however will make Nigeria jump through hoops .
