Training: We have not rested on our oars looking at us receiving mentoring from the UK military and forging partnership with various Friendly countries

Equipment: For the Army..this is where IMHO I think there is more to be desired

Training has gotten a lot better

At the Town Hall meeting of the FG yesterday to commemorate Democracy day, I don't know if anybody heard the minister of defense saying NA has received 105 MRAPs from Jordan and will soon be inducted.
Perhaps my ear was deceiving me so I need confirmation from someone else that watched it.

60 Nigerian military officers for armament training in India


60 Nigerian military officers are undergoing a six-week extensive training in highly specialized fields of weaponry and communication in India.


A statement from the Indian High Commission in Abuja said the training, offered by the Indian Armed Forces, was to further enhance the capacity of the Nigerian troops as they battle Boko Haram insurgency in the north east.

The training was sponsored by the Indian government and will continue until June 10, 2017, the statement said.

India’s “sustained” support to the Nigerian armed forces was due to the strong bilateral relations between both countries, it added.

“A large number of training courses are being offered by the Indian Armed Forces to further enhance the capacity and capability of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“In continuation to this effort, highly intensive armament training for sixty personnel of the Nigerian Army has commenced in India on May 01, 2017. This training is being imparted to both Officers and soldiers and will continue until June 10, 2017.

“The six week extensive training includes highly specialized fields of weaponry and communication.

“The funding for the training is being provided by the Government of India,” the statement said.

Probably unless there's a coordinated final push on bh, Seems they still have large pockets of space they can spring up camps, regroup, ambushes etc.

Not sure of the dynamics on ground, but sometimes I'm not sure if they army prefers the model of the endless battle of Pakistan army against Taliban in the mountains of Waziristan or would a model of timed troop surges like Iraqi army against 'shitty state' totally clearing out enemies from a geographical location be better. The latter option is best but who knows with Nigerian army.
The effort from the Military has to focus more on the capture/interdiction of their Leaders.
Also understand the difficulty of the situation apart from Nigeria, they exist in three other countries.Total annihilation in Nigeria means the remnants flee to Chad and Cameroon and No man's land in the Mandata Mountains.
Chad for all it's bluster had a Deadly encounter with BH last week.
Going into Q2, Focus has to be on the Lake Chad areas
and the Mandata Mountains.

EXCLUSIVE: Shake-up in Boko Haram war, top military commanders replaced


The Nigerian army has redeployed some high-ranking officers on the frontline of the war against insurgency, TheCable can report.

This is coming at a time when the military has succeeded in restoring normalcy to most parts of the troubled north-east.

A military source said the development took affected officers by surprise.

Lucky Irabor, theatre commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, and Victor Ezuwgu, acting general officer commanding (GOC), 7 division, have been transferred out of Borno state.

TheCable learnt that Ibrahim Attahiru, a major general at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, would take over from Irabor, while Ezugwu would be replaced by I.M Yusuf, a brigadier general.

Barring last minute change of plans, Irabor and Ezugwu would hand over to their successors on June 1 and June 10 respectively.

Irabor will be going to the multi-national joint task force (MNJTF), where he will take over from Lamidi Adeosun, a major general, and Ezugwu will be deployed to a military formation in Zaria, Kaduna, as a GOC.

TheCable understands that Adeosun will resume at the defence headquarters in Abuja.

The reorganisation has created mixed feelings among officers in Borno.

Some believe that the redeployment is long overdue, others are of the view that they should have been left to end the war they made a significant contribution to reducing.

A senior military officer opposed to the development said the army has never had commanders who had recorded tremendous successes in the war against insurgency like the outgoing theatre commander and his GOC.

“The theatre commander and the GOC were the only commanders who went to the war front to engage Boko Haram terrorists,” he told this newspaper.

“The GOC was always with troops on the war front and that was why we called him ‘the game changer’.

“These two powerful men have restructured the army and so far boost the morale of troops.”

Another commander, who also spoke off the record, said he felt “very bad” over the issue.

“Of course, we know that they won’t be here forever, that is the nature of this job. But I feel bad that these great men are leaving the theatre at this point,” he said.

“We will be meeting on the 25 this month; that is where the theatre commander will officially announce his replacement. This is really sad.

Irabor was appointed as the theatre commander on March 17, 2016.

anyway if you didn't understand what i wrote then that's very poor of you. let me make it clearer so you can comprehend.

we have this common misconception that a longer barrel = a longer range or better accuracy which is FALSE. A longer range is mostly determined by the type of propellant charge used and the barrel elevation.

One the the major reason the former iraqi army lost the tank war against the US Army in the Gulf war was due to their use of half-charge propellant as opposed to the proper propellant thereby making their tank rounds fall short


in summary all am trying to say is that a longer tank barrel is not the deciding factor for range since longer range can be gotten by using a energetic tank round propellant charge and SUPER-ELEVATION while accuracy is the sole job of the Fire Control System if the tank barrel hasn't wear out too much.

the fire control computes the targeting data after all factors is considered and it provides a fire solution.

A shorter barreled gun can still fire at longer range more than a really long gun.
Yes and No and it has nothing to do with the charge
When I spoke to a Tanker a long time ago accuracy is determined not exactly by the charge but by the length of the barrel.
The barrel be it a Tank or a Tank killing APC starts to get "hot ' after a while of firing multiple shells and this leads to " warpness" which affects the accuracy of the charge fired. It also plays a role in the elevation of the barrel the longer the barrel the more difficult to bring down it angle of elevation ( Angle of depression)

One of the main reasons alluded to by American tankers over their IRAQI counterparts had nothing to do with the charge but Mobility. They were surprised as to how many T-72 were stuck inside defensive berms in a static position and picked them off one at a time, they also said their Bradleys were hopeless against the T-72 and the kIA that the Americans suffered came from mobile T-72s
