So if you have applied for a Canadian study permit once, and you are rejected, the next logical step is to go for a judicial review just because you can afford it? You won’t try to find out what was wrong with your application at least? You won’t try to fix it and apply a second time?

I noticed that he gives this advice to people when it appears from their profile that they can afford it. That was what I was taking issue with. And he responded by telling me I have no idea how things work. I may not have an idea how things work in visa applications because I am not a professional visa applicant. But I know how things work in the world. You just don’t throw away thousands of dollars when you are planning to emigrate to a new country with a lot of unknowns. You conserve as much of your funds as you can because believe me, what you expect is never what you find out there.

If it were not for all of his defenders that appeared out of nowhere to bully me, the matter would have since died down.

This place is not just a random chat thread. People (myself included) take advice from here and act upon it. Whoever is therefore giving advice here should endeavor to exercise a bit of fiduciary care and advice what you know to be in the best interest of the person you are talking to.

All I said is that we should give full disclosure. I still stand by what I said - it is not normal to advise people to spend over a million naira on judicial review when you have not exhausted all possibilities.

For judicial review to be the first line of advice to someone who has not even received GCMS notes for their first rejection is unfair. Assuming the person has applied several times and is still rejected then you advice such then that makes sense.

And for all of you to suddenly appear out of nowhere to start insulting me and trying to shut me up simply shows that I have a point. You people should sha be doing things with a conscience. People listen to you and make life decisions. Don’t carry that load lightly.

Madam, i can remember vividly how Frank courteously answered your questions when you were denied a visa for using company sponsorship, giving you free advice as he has been doing and here you're saying balderdash that he has connection with somewhat lawyer's in Canada simply because he suggested that applicant's with good profiles may seek for judicial review rather than reapplying blindly without properly addressing the visa officer's concern's. This has got nothing to do with him having a connection which you so much claim that he has. Frank has been good to numerous people on this thread and his presence on this platform is a blessing to us.

My sponsor didn't pay the tuition from her account because the rep of the school said deadline for payment was close so we used my sister who has the same surname to make payment

I don’t think it matters. All you need to do is attach the evidence that the tuition has been paid. The evidence of payment from the school will not indicate who paid the fees.

When trying to make a point, however valid or passionate we feel about it, we should try and be careful with the words we use. Yes. It’s possible to make $1000 monthly working as a student in Canada. In 5 months you’ve made $5000 (regardless of what you spend it on - whether house rent or food)... I believe that’s what Frankrobn was trying to say...

It’s like I’m working in Nigeria, and I earn/get N200,000 a month. Regardless of what I spend my salary on, I still earn N200,000 monthly.

Have you spoken to people who already have this PR we are all chasing to see how easy the jobs are? Have you visited some of these countries we are struggling to get to to see how some of our “abroad” friends are actually struggling to pay bills?

To me it is irresponsible to fritter away 4000 to 5000 dollars on judicial review that MAY not even work. No matter how much money I think I have, 4K is not a joke. Not even a Canadian already earning in dollars thinks 4K is a joke.

When you tell people you can easily “recoup” such money you are being economical with the truth. The truth is that jobs are hard to get in Canada. Even landed PRs complain about that. Cost of living is high in Canada. Everything is expensive - from rent to gas to foodstuff to utilities to phone and data.

So we should not embark on this journey with rose colored glasses or we shall be in for a rude awakening.

Yes. He put it in a lump sum and highlighted it in his letter of sponsorship.

I really want to rant a little about the unrealistic expectations some of us cultivate about living abroad. Some children sell their parent’s property in order to emigrate because they believe they will “recoup” the money in a few months. It’s not true. Everywhere you live is a struggle. Some of us need to spend time and discuss with people who are already in these places we want to emigrate to so we can know what we are getting ourselves into.

I would advice everyone to check forums like Quora, Reddit and even our own living in Canada thread here on Nairaland to get a real feel of what life is like. Before we all make far reaching decisions without weighing the costs properly.

You're such a hilarious person to have made that comment . Now, let me educate you properly that this is possible and achievable by a student with a diverse job hunting strategy in Canada. FYI, It is clearly stated on IRCC official website that students in Canada can work as much as they want (40hours/per week) during the Spring (May to August) without any restrictions. This information corroborates the fact that a student can actually be able to raise more than the money invested in the Judicial Review process during the Spring. I want to put it that you have little or limited knowledge on how things works, thus the unconscionable statement from you. For the fact that you can't afford this route doesn't give you the boldness to say I'm giving people unrealistic information. There are lots of applicants that have used the judicial review route because of the unfair judgments on their applications and they are happy about the outcome eventually and living their best lives in Canada. Trust me, I won't bother to contend on this matter with you.

Oga if you have ulterior motives asking people to do judicial review please stop it. So I work 40 hours a week during summer break. I will not pay rent abi? I will not pay taxes. I will not pay bills.

What kind of job can a student on vacation get? Is it not minimum to medium wage? Let’s say at the most 25 dollars per hour. 25 x 40 = 1,000 a week. Minimum wage is actually 17 dollars. Even if I earn that 1,000 dollars a week. What if bills?

Please stop this calumnous campaign. The streets of any country in the world are not paved with gold! We need to understand the realities of what lies ahead even as we want to emigrate.

Getting an approval in the end and being allowed to enter Canada to pursue your choice of program are the associated benefits that can't be turned down. Taking that into account, you wouldn't even recall the stress or expenses you incurred during the immigration process because you will eventually get the money spent in a matter of few months in Canada.

Hian Oga Frankrobbn. It’s talk like this that make people commit fraud in order to travel out. How can you say a prospective student will get the money spent on judicial review in a few months in Canada? Someone that cannot work for more than 20 hours a week? Where are the jobs set?

Please not in this modern day of information will you be telling people such stories. Please the struggle is real everywhere and nowhere is paved with gold. Let’s endeavor to be realistic please.

This is BVL. Before COVID and all this new system CIC is bringing, once you get BVL be expecting a final decision soon. If you get BVL without medical request then it’s most likely a refusal. It looks like they are now ready to tell you the decision they have reached a long time ago.

Judicial review is a costly process. Basically you are taking them to court. You will have to pay an immigration lawyer (at least between 1,000 to 3,000 CAD). Apart from the costs of instituting the action.

I don’t know about you o, but for me I will rather do what I need to do to adjust my application and get the visa than to dash an immigration lawyer that amount of money.

If you are worried about leaving your children behind for a long time, it does not necessarily have to be long. I have posted before about families where the mother applies alone and once she gets the visa she applies for her children and even spouse if she wants.

I am not an expert o. Just speaking from personal experience.

I have (at least AIP). But the sponsor had to get a letter from the bank showing that he is a signatory to the business account.

Congratulations first and foremost to everyone who has received positive feedback. I pray everyone will get theirs!

So I got a refusal for my SP last week and the reasons were:

1. Purpose of visit
2. Family ties.

I'm female and I applied with my children. Hubby was meant to remain here.
Interestingly, after so many web notes with them telling me they were working on my profile, I had been rejected since June 30 (I applied June 10). It was after the refusal that my eligibility review was updated and showed June 30.

I have requested for my GCMS notes in order to know what they are actually worried about.

Now, my questions are:
1. How do I address the "purpose of visit" ( mind you I made a very tight SOP addressing it)

2. If I decide to leave my children out of the second application, will it raise eyebrows?

A brief overview of my profile:

Chartered Accountant with and MBA
Going for a Masters in Finance
School fees fully paid
Enough money to cover all expenses, even if the children go with me.

You most likely can’t know the real reason for the denial until you get the GCMS. But if one were to guess from the generic reasons, your kids going with you seem to be a reason. You can address it head on in your letter of explanation: you initially wanted to take your children with you but upon further consideration you realized caring for your kids may have a bigger impact on your concentration on your studies and have instead decided to make alternative arrangements to enable you concentrate. I have heard of someone getting a letter from a grandma undertaking to take care of the kids or you get a nanny/house keeper.

If your SOP is well crafted then wait for your GCMS notes to see where the issue lies. Did you address what you intend to do with the new degree when you come back I.e how it will increase your earning power in Nigeria or how it will further your career?

I Used the same SOP. The issue with my first application was my proof of sponsorship. My sponsor is a business man. He attached his personal account and his business account. From the GCMS notes I saw that the VO doubted that the sponsor was in control of the business account (even though his name was in the CAC document as director).

2. What I did differently: my sponsor paid my first year tuition. Then he got a letter from his bank showing that he and his wife alone are the sole signatories to the business account. He also transferred the amount sufficient for 1 year upkeep into my account though I also had some funds there. Then he wrote a letter of sponsorship explaining all that he did and why. (He is a relative and a partner in the business I intend to come back and continue to run after completing the program.)

LEARNING POINT: If you have to use a business account, get a letter from the bank showing the signatories to the account.

Is it compulsory/advicable an Applicant who got AIP wait for a Visa Decision before deferring his/her admission to September 2021 (since that's the only available intake for the program)?

Thanks my brother. I don’t know really because the reason I gave for my own deferral was because I had not yet received any response from the VO. (I deferred before the AIP). If I recall your school asked you to defer because they are not offering online option. If you wait to receive visa decision before deferring what I’d there is no more space in the 2021 fall session by then?

You need to ditch that agent as quickly as possible. Please endeavor to read this thread from the first page. If you are patient self, go to part 16 or 15. That money you are about to pay the agent will be useful for so many other things.

Why you need to ditch the agent:
1. It is impossible to get a study permit without stipulating the course. You need to attach your admission letter to the application. Then you need to write a letter of explanation in which you try to convince the Visa Officer about why you picked that course, what you hope to benefit from it and how it will help you to progress in your career or achieve your goals.

2. Study gap of over 10 years? You need to have a real good explanation of what you have been doing since then and why you have now decided to go to school.

Please just settle down, put in a few months of serious research both on this thread and other platforms. You will figure out what you need to do.

Sorry house. I fully intended to update the house. Received my GCMS notes and it showed that Eligibility was passed. It went on to undergo secondary review in China. Then it was sent to Edmonton. Sha basically it appears the AIP was a positive sign. But I have already deferred admission to next year before I got the AIP.

Perhaps you can liquidate the fixed deposit of your husband so the funds are consolidated along with your

I think medical report is valid for a year so you can reuse. Police report is valid for only 3 months so you can’t reuse that. Strictly speaking the police report is not really an essential document though I also used it o.

Help me dissect my case

had over 5.68m in my account and sch fees is $37k
I had my mum as my sponsor account of 15m and husband Account of 3m as co sponsor.
I have sibling with a PR in canada
I included four landed properties of shared by myself and husband.
I included my mums landed properties too.
I applied alone and did not include any of my 4kids and hubby.I attached birth cert, job details etc

The sch doesn't require I pay the fees yet
No 1 is accompanying me.. no need for the second reason.

Suggestions:
1. Can you look for a cheaper school? 37k is a lot of money. My tuition for UBC was 18k for a two year masters and I had 14m in my account and my first application was still rejected.
2. Build your account and especially your husband’s to show that he can continue to fend for your family
3. Get your mum to transfer whatever tangible sum she can into your account and write a letter of support that she is supporting your education with so and so amount which she has already transferred into your account
4. If your school has a good return policy you may pay at least one semester school fees.
