@ OP, a lot of women endure maltreatment from their husbands in Nigeria because they have no choice I.e they are dependent financially and have to take it. That they continue to accept maltreatment doesn’t mean they have no feelings. The macho inconsiderate way a lot of husbands treat their wives kills whatever love the women may have had. A lot of them are just waiting patiently until situation change.

That’s why for example you will find old couples where the wife has abandoned her husband and is permanently living with one of her children. Now when he is old and needs his wife’s company she has no feelings for him and doesn’t need him anymore since her children can now take care of her.

Same situation you are in. You killed your wife’s feelings for you with your behavior in Nigeria and now she feels she doesn’t need you and so it’s payback time.

The only thing you can do is explain to her that in the first place you don’t have your papers yet so she has not yet “arrived.” Secondly, sincerely beg her forgiveness and make efforts to make amends for your behavior. We women are still quite soft. You won her heart once, you can win it again. Set to woo her the way you did before you got married. Hopefully she will forgive and forget and be ready to build a home with you.

Someone I was discussing with put an interest of studying in Canada to me recently. He told me some which I need to sort clarification from you guys.

He said I should look at getting a professor from a University in my field and that I should work on a very good and convincing thesis and they could sponsor me from their huge grants they get for research.

I don't have any sponsor or anybody with a large bank account like that so I've only been looking for fully funded scholarships online.

Please I want to know if it's possible to study in Canada this way? Funding my thesis seems feasible to me but what about accommodation, feeding, tuition fees and others?

I plead for responses from everyone with experience so that I don't get my hopes high.

Give it your best shot. There have been people on this thread that have received fully funded scholarship which covers everything including room and board. Some even from more than one school.

No. You do not even do medical for a visitor’s visa so even when you apply for them to visit they will not do medical. Medical is only for student visa and PR.

I also think the purpose of visit clause is also a significant one. Based on my understanding they usually give this reason when they feel your reason for the masters does not make sense e.g the masters does not align with work experience or undergrad course. So it’s also good to check the SOP to make sure that the story flows and makes sense.

Please I suggest you take off your brothers details from the letter of rejection. It’s not safe to have your details on public forums like this

My one coin is: request for GCMS notes for your application(am glad you have done that already to understand reasons behind your denials).

Reapply and pay your full tuition for the first academic year and have sufficient funds for your living expenses maybe this time you might consider getting a domiciliary account and put your 10,000 worth of Canadian dollars there and have like 2million or more in your personal statement of account for your travels and other things, you know they appreciate it more if it is from direct sponsor that is what I feel though(open for correction) once is relative or uncle or frnd, I'll advise you to tell the person to pay the full tuition for your program and transfer other funds to you! Because they feel like the person will take his funds back once you are approved.
So it's always advisable to encourage your sponsor especially when the sponsor is uncle or
aunt or others to pay full tuition for that year not even first semester but first semester can work but full tuition is stronger in my own opinion, and carefully get a letter of sponsorship from him or her stating why he or she is funding your studies while you work on your SOP or LOE. (That is if you wish to maintain him or her as sponsor o, otherwise use your hubby as co-sponsor)
Let it be somewhat of self sponsor on your second application and while your husband stands as your co-sponsor, your relative can be paying small small money to your husband account Atleast balance of 3m in your husband account can do, he might choose to pay in one million Naira into your account for your flight or transportation, at least his own support while you can have the minimum of 2m in your personal account and show proof of the money hus transferred to you even if he has 2m left after making the transaction, no problem. They don't care if your account runs in billions you just need to be real and show a great sign or interest that your really want to attain that qualification though.

The financial aspect, remember that you are a mature applicant and you are married. I presuppose you attached your own SOA aside from the fund coming from your supposed sponsor?

I also assumed you attached your personal or family asset details to substantiate that you are financially grounded in your home country.
From the family perspective, I think your husband would have been the most suitable sponsor sponsor, but then, since he is not a sponsor, I believe you should provide evidence of his financial capability to be called upon in case you need more than budgeted. Look at it from the point of view that the VO is not fully convinced about the future intention of this third party sponsor- in that case, your husband will be the next to be accessed.

Also, I have read a comment by Frank on this platform where the VO only considered the applicant sponsors SOA (a company SOA with huge money) and refused the application even thou the applicant includes the sponsors personal statement.

Thanks. Was half expecting it when I got BVL. Just didn’t want to jump to conclusions. At least the positive part is that they seem to be attending to application faster. Mine was exactly 1 month.

Reasons for refusal were the same generic reasons:
1. Not convinced I will leave Canada based on current employment status.
2. Not convinced I have enough funds.

Sponsor (close relative with same surname) is a business man. He has transferred the entire tuition and upkeep for the 1st year into my account since January. Supported with his business account with very healthy inflow and outflow of over 50m each month, and his personal account with over 40m balance. So I don’t know what other funds are required.

So house, I just got my rejection letter too. Today is the day for refusal it appears. I have immediate applied for my GCMS notes. This is what I did:
1. I googled apply for GCMS notes

2. Opened the link on CIC website.

3. My husband has a childhood friend who is a citizen in Canada. We called him and while he was on the phone we filled the form together.
Information we needed: his name, status in Canada (according to the website even someone in Canada on visitors visa can apply for another person), his address, phone number and email. And evidence of the person’s status e.g pr card, visa or Canadian passport. Although this is said to be optional but if your contact is willing to give you it cannot harm if you add it.

4. There’s a consent form on CIC website (google consent form for GCMS). Fill it, sign it and attach to the GCMS application. The consent form must be already scanned because you cannot save this application for GCMS and come back to complete. It must be filled at once.

5. Pay 5 Canadian dollars with a credit card. I don’t know if Nigerian debit card will work but I guess your contact should be able to pay 5 dollars for you.

Don’t know how long this will take sha but make we dey watch.

Don't just reapply blindly, get an experienced immigration lawyer to fight your case. Your case has a good prospect to be won by a lawyer. The process would cost you $4,000CAD. If you can afford it, go for it.

Hian Frankrobbn. 4,000 never pay a big chunk of tuition? In this Buhari era someone will dash lawyer 4,000k. It’s better to get GCMS note o. And reapply. In my opinion. She can point out in her letter of explanation that she has never been to Canada and therefore there must be an error. Hope they were not visiting the error of her brother on her sha.

I know a 42 year old who just got admission. Funny enough her masters admission was in a completely different field from her First degree but it was in line with her work experience. Just package yourself well in your statement of purpose making sure to highlight all your relevant work experience and achieved e.g awards, published work etc

What option should I be selecting for a PGD programme? So I selected the last 3 but was surprised to see some courses wth the admission requirements being:

If this is a PGD, why is the requirement being Secondary School? Unless it is a University degree I am looking at thinking it is a PGD.

You need to look specifically for a post graduate certificate or a post graduate diploma course. I think most diplomas offered by colleges are actually for students straight out of high school hence the requirement for secondary school grades. When you find a post graduate diploma the requirement will be different I.e bachelor degree and transcript

Many schools use etx. Google etx and see if your school is among the schools that use it. But Nigerian factor is still there o. Even after applying online you will probably still need someone on ground to go and “grease” the application if not it won’t progress.

Personal experience. In my husbands village somewhere in Owerri, there were so many individuals who sent money home from all over the place to assist their brothers who were based at home. My husband’s extended family alone contributed over a million Naira. Foodstuffs were bought and shared to the young men and family based in the East. That’s a spirit that’s totally lacking in the South West.

What I am trying to say is that hunger was biting everyone everywhere. But while those in the East have developed a communal spirit, the west are looking up to Govt. At the same time it is important to remember that all of this money I am talking about came from people who do not live in the East, so they do not contribute to the economy. These people pay taxes where they live. They employ Labour and pay rent, pay for services etc. So while their brothers may not necessarily starve because they regularly send money home, it’s not really helping the economy.

My brother I was in the same situation when I applied. The supervisor I approached did not respond. I sha summoned faith and applied all the same. I was given admission with another supervisor. I applied to many schools o. Even the school where the Supervisor responded eventually did not give me admission. If you can spare the admission fees apply to more than one school.

You can also try to approach the faculty advisor or graduate school advisor. Summarize your research interests and ask suggestions for a Supervisor.

Ordinarily the ticket should have been sent to your sponsor’s email account. Even if it delays the delay should not be up 24 hours. To be on the safer side, ask your sponsor to download a pdf statement. That one will have stamp and signature so you can attach to your application

That’s the family information form right? That’s the form I advised someone to download, print and sign, then scan back. They were shouting on me. Oya Frankrobbn and Anon123 come and explain to her how to sign family information form without printing it o.

My sister as for me, I printed it, signed all the portions for signing, scanned it back and attached it. Note that there is more than one place for signing. If you are not married, you have to sign the part that declares that you have never been married. Same with if you have no kids.

I finished secondary school in the year 2011 and gained admission into University, I was given a different course and had to choose from Microbiology, industrial chemistry or Biochemistry .

When I got to 200level, we had our department society week through which I was nominated as an exco, I was to look for any industry or anywhere related to our course where we could gain experience, I travelled to some states in the West and could not get anywhere good, the little available are not ready to accept us then I discovered I might not get a job after my studies, I also remembered how my dad already told me he won't get me a job if I refuse to study medicine. Cos of the threat from home, I wrote Jamb till my 300 level .

After my discovery, I rather went to learn little business couple with fact that I have been doing little while in secondary school to buy my clothings and other needs as I don't really like asking my parents for stuffs. I started business with little savings with God's grace, also incorporated the company in 2014 after a year of starting, before I finished in 2016, I was already doing business worth 3.1 million naira with zero mobilization fee with my institution and also bought a car at 300level. To cut the long story short. I graduated with 3rd class " Bachelor of science ".


I was mobilized for NYSC in 2017, after the camp, I left and travelled to Lagos to face my business squarely, when NYSC didn't see me, they remobilized me to a south western state on their own, with pressure from Dad, I went back for NYSC last year and I am completing it in 2 months time. Though, I didnt seat there. Business must continue.


I need real time business training and background cos I have lost so many opportunities and underrated so many of my God given ideas, I exposed it and others tapped into them, lost so many clients due to the fact I lack adequate business education, Trying to apply for MBA but my Degree performance can't do it except some expensive schools in USA where my working experience (6 years) could be used instead of Degree cert. I already applied to 3 schools in Canada to study " Bachelor of business administration" and I was told to declare sll my post secondary school records. My waec result is suffiecient for them but they still requested for my university transcripts, maybe cos I declared it. I am 27 years old and I am married.


For study permit, I can sponsor myself by God's grace. The 30k USD for the first year is available. My business can sponsor the subsequent years. Do I have to use my father as my sponsor as his own account is fat with lots of properties in different states. My only fear is that if my dad agreed to appear as the sponsor, if the embassy called him, my dad might deny or refuse to pick his calls, reason for this is that he offered my sister 5 million naira this year to return to our home state to open supermarket which I told her to decline cos he's doing that to separate her from her friend which he presumed to be bad but not true . Please he's not a bad person, he's just principled and strict, anything he wants you to do is what you must do.


What are my chances since I didn't study anything business related courses from onset. What are the things I meed to d to cross all this. My wife will be managing the business in my absence. So sorry for long story. Thanks.

My two cents: from my own experience I found that some schools are willing to waive your educational background if your working experience is solid.

If it is also possible you may check for one or two online courses in business admin you can do or maybe a PGD in business admin from open university to serve as a bridge.


Just apply to many schools, write your SOP as you just narrated the story above (without the personal details of course). You should be able to get at least a graduate diploma from one.

Another thing is that most schools have two types of masters, the thesis based and the course based. The thesis based is usually more competitive so wherever possible always apply to the course based program.

I year masters will give you nothing less than 1 year PGWP. In some cases, you may be lucky and get 3 years. A friend of mine finished from University of Western


On the other hand, there are some provinces that makes it possible to get a PR even if you have just 1 year PGWP.

For example, if you do a 1 year masters in Ontario, they have a program called the OINP Masters graduate stream. It is a provincial nomination program. It is strictly for people who completed their masters degree and have lived in Ontario for 1 year. They don't need to show work experience and they don't even need a job offer to apply. All they need is write IELTS or CELPIP exams and meet some other conditions and they are good to apply for PR. It depends on the province. Some province require that you have a job before you apply for provincial nomination. Others require that you should have been working for 6 months. Others 1 year. So imagine you get a 1 year post graduate working permit. Then it takes you sometime let’s say 5 or 6 months to get a job. If the province required a 6 month or 1 year working experience then you will be out of time before you qualify. But if you do a 2 year program which gives you 3 years working permit, no matter what you would have sorted yourself out before the 3 years are over.
Bearing in mind that you can only get post graduate working permit once (it cannot be renewed) it is better to go for the option that gives you more time.

Yep that is true. A 1 year program will give you 1 year post graduation work permit. A 2 year program will give you 3 years work permit.

They never stopped working. They only said all applications must be online and not paper. They have been attending to online applications.
