It’s a dicey situation. Some people have succeeded with their children while others haven’t. Personally I choose not to apply with my kids. I know of two families who did the same.
1. Scenario 1. Mum applies alone. Gets her visa and travelled. Once enrolled she applies for permits for her children and husband (study for the children, work for the husband.) The entire process took about three months.

2. Scenario 2. Entire family had existing Canadian visitors visa. Mum applies for study visa and the entire family travelled. Husband and children were given permits at the border.

I would believe Scenario 2 might work in your Favour. You can travel with the three kids who have U.S passports. Since they do not need a visa to get into Canada you can ask for a study permit for them at the border.

If you are too nervous about being turned away, just enter with them as if they are coming on vacation. Then you apply for permits for them from inside Canada. The process will certainly be shorter and more likely to succeed. Besides, children of parents who are on study visa are entitled to attend school (1st to 12th grades) without any papers other than your study permit.

I used an agent who didnt give the right information, he just wanted money. Told me to go for another undergraduate studies instead of masters and also apply with my family. Thank God I got to know about this thread, I will get the next one right by God's grace

So sorry about this. It’s a good thing you now have your GCMS notes. You will be able to repackage and a better application.

No. But it was the only other document I hadn’t submitted so I thought I might as well submit it. I submitted an upfront medical with the application which has been updated to passed long ago. It’s a second application so I already have biometrics done. Ordinarily I felt they should have given a straight approval not an AIP so maybe it’s the police character that may be stopping it.

My brother, there’s nothing better than doing your research in any matter rather than relying on what people say. When it comes to study in Canada, getting the admission is the least of your worries, so don’t let the fact that your “Aunty” claims to know the “owner” of a school be the reason for choosing a school. What does that even mean? I have not heard of an owner of a post secondary institution before sha.

Here are the basic things you need to know.

1. Is the school a DLI (Designated Learning Institution?). Not all higher institutions in Canada are authorized to accept international students. So the first step is to Google DLI Canada and confirm from the list of schools which ones are DLI.
On this DLI matter there is another consideration. The reason why people go for masters in Canada is because you can get a Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP). Again not every school will qualify you for this so when you are checking for schools on the DLI list confirm that the school
And the program you are going for are DLI eligible.
I just did a google search and while the school Dominion college is DLI (authorized to accept international students), it is not PGWP eligible, meaning that when you finish the program you will not get a work permit and will have to come back to Nigeria immediately.

2. There’s a common reason for denial called purpose of visit. Visa Officers (VOs) often deny people a study permit if the program you are going for does not make sense as in based on your previous degree or your work experience. So for someone like you who read business admin or so to suddenly start going for personal support worker it is obvious that it does not show any progression either based on your career or your previous schooling.

My advice is that you take a breath. Start to do some research. You can start on this student visa thread maybe part 14 and be reading it small small. Many things will be slowly getting clearer for you.

@ Oga Austacus you could have tried to put him through. I was on this board a couple of years ago when you were in our shoes and I know you received a lot of help. It’s time to give back from your wealth of experience.

-You can chose to defer to a future intake if you don’t prefer to start on-line but please note that your studies done in your home country on-line are counted towards your PGWP. Many students prefer to study at least one semester online to save the living expenses.

I would go ahead and start the program if I were the one. Since they have guaranteed me a tuition refund. I did not start my own program because my school policy is once you start classes no refund

With this new strategy by IRCC on AIP which is the first stage approval, one of the requirement for the Second Stage approval (final approval) is Police Clearance Certificate, which makes it compulsory.

Good day all. Please I need some suggestions. Planning our relocation for next March/April. I have a 2016 Toyota Prius with very good mileage. I know most people will sell their cars and buy a new one when they relocate. But I can’t get good value for this car because you know Naija now - if it’s not a “Jeep” it’s not a car.

If I am to buy this car in Canada it should be costing like 15k. I am seriously thinking of carrying this vehicle along. Is there any way this can make sense? Has anyone imported a vehicle into Canada and what are the costs? (Clearing, registering etc.

Hmmm. These Canada peeps sef na wah o. I was even feeling bad with myself that I deferred my admission just before I got AIP.

Abeg better safe than sorry. After paying millions for online study in Nigeria without data and light they will still come and deny visa.

These people are tricky and cannot be trusted!

I don't give mere speculations here. I think its high time you all should understand my stance on any topic been raised here. If I am not too sure of a particular topic, I don't go into detail debating about it. I remember vividly and very clearly that I said it on this platform that the receipt of an AIP letter is NOT a guarantee that an applicant will be approved of the second stage. Many counterattacked my post and were obivoulsy thinking that I'm depriving people on this window from showing great happiness. However this is not the case, as I was merely advising applicants here from the wisdom of my knowledge and the number of applications and cases I see on a regular basis and the tricks that are likely to be employed by IRCC this fall 2020. I reiterate that IRCC are using this AIP as a means to lure applicants into paying their tuition fees for the survival of her economy. Do not begin classes until you have received the final verdict from IRCC. Please be properly guided if you've not been told before, a Visa officer can decide to start your ELIGIBILITY review afresh after receiving a complete application (biometrics enrollment details and medicals), this I have seen on numerous GCMS notes especially when a new VO picks up the file for a final review.


I'll be here to watch how things unfolds in no distant time.

I do not mean to discourage anyone here, but If your eligibility review has been ongoing for weeks and you are yet to receive any update from IRCC, chances are that you have been denied. So far IRCC has not been able to communicate a refusal to all those with pending biometrics ( as at the time of eligibility review).

I applied for study permit on the 17th of June. My eligibility review started on the 17th of July exactly on month later and has been like that up till this moment. However, I applied for my GCMS notes earlier this month and when the notes came in, I discovered that a decision (eligibility review FAILED) was MADE on my application on the 18th of July (a day after eligibility review started.)

BOTTOMLINE: IRCC have only been able to communicate those that scaled through the first stage of review (AIP). Unfortunatlely, those that failed are yet to be communicated.

So sorry to hear this news. It’s really annoying that they have reached a decision so long ago and just holding on to someone’s application.

The good thing about the GCMS notes is that you can see exactly what the problem was with your application and make correction.

The next one will certainly be successful!

He has given me , his personal and business bank statement, letter of sponsorship, reference later from bank, cac certificate and I have a picture from my grandma burial in 2019.

Just wanted to point out a caveat on the use of the company account. My sponsor also used a company account but I had to add a letter from the bank identifying him as the sole signatory to the company account. Without this additional verification from the bank showing that your uncle controls the company funds it’s likely to be a rejection.

To show kinship with your uncle you can also add his birth certificate and your mum’s birth certificate to show they share the same parents as well as your mum’s wedding certificate to show her former surname before she married your dad

I have been going through the thread and still trying to catch up, however, I’ll just like to ask my question as I haven’t found anyone in my situation per se.
I’m a PR and I want to apply for a student visa for my younger brother (16 years) to come to study here by next year fall(FALL 2021) in Canada in a school that’s in my province.
I have seen the requirements and documents I need to provide and I'm fine with that. He’s currently rounding up his WAEC and I know how to go about getting him admission, my concerns are around the visa itself. i'm trying to arm myself with enough information so i'll be prepared when we apply.

Here are my questions:
1. The plan is that our dad would be his main sponsor, but I would handle his living and feeding expenses and honestly, if I didn’t read this thread I would have mentioned that, but based on what I’ve read now, I feel like I shouldn’t mention that as it may prove strong ties in Canada and his visa may be denied. Should we just say my dad would be his main sponsor and not mention me as a co-sponsor at all.
2. Does he still need SOP, considering he’s just rounding up secondary school, I noticed there’s still a questionnaire that we would need to fill when applying?
3. Can someone please point me to anyone else that was in this situation and I can read up on that person’s profile.
4. Because he isn’t 18 yet, is there any other thing I’ll have to do or that I might have missed.
5. I’m honestly considering using an agent instead because I have seen a lot of refusals and this study permit is even looking difficult than when I applied for PR. What do you guys think?.
6. Are there any extra documents I should add apart from those that are being asked already, considering he’s just finishing secondary school and has no work experience
7. How do I prove family ties in Nigeria, I’m the only one here(Canada) and our parents and siblings are still in Nigeria. Any ideas on this, please.

In response to question 4, I seem to have read somewhere that underaged students need a named guardian where they will be schooling. I think you can come in here as a guardian. @preshy2004 I think is currently processing a visa for her 16 year old. Perhaps she can also weigh in.

Please do you have an idea of how the VO will easily know? What if my brother uses my Dad’s international passport as identification for his sponsor, while I use my Dad’s national ID? That way, the identification documents cannot be traced to each other. I believe this can work, except if you know any other way a VO may use to identify that two sponsors are the same.

Like I previously said, my Dad is the only option for both of us. There is no other person he can send the money to. So we are just thinking of the best way to go about applying separately and using the same sponsor, without marring our applications.

Among the forms forms you will fill is one called family information form in which you will input the names and date of birth of all your family members- your parents and all siblings including half brothers or even step brothers. Whatever you fill in that form becomes your permanent record with the Canadian government so it is necessary that you fill it accurately. With that form the record will be clear that you guys are siblings and have the same person (your father) as Sponsor.

This matter has been discussed by many experienced ones on this thread and very detailed explanation given. That is why new ones are always adviced to read from the beginning. The information you will get from reading it yourself cannot be supplied in any other way. Please start at the beginning of the thread and be reading it slowly. You will learn a lot. I personally read from “season 12” and with the information I have got from these threads, I am sure I can even serve as an agent set.

I'm lost in all of these process; I did upfront medical and was notified it has been sent to IRCC before I submitted my application. The slip given from the hospital was attached along side my study permit application when I submitted and yet my application status says all these as attached below: please can someone help me explain. They are still reviewing your eligibility. I think they usually look at medicals after a preliminary look at your eligibility. When they are done with that they move to medicals. If you have not done a medical then they request your medical. If you have the profile will change to “we are reviewing your medical results”. Then if it will change to medical passed.
That’s why before all this COVID era, a medical request was usually viewed as a good thing because it means you have passed at least the initial eligibility review.
Now we are not too sure about the order in which they look at documents anymore. But once they start to look at your medical test your profile will change.

Please note that I asked @CitImmCanada twitter handler a question and here is the response. So, it means those who actually have AIPs are those who have not submitted full documents / requirements. i.e medicals / biometrics / police report where necessary.

I hope this helps calm the nerves of those who submitted full application (those have upfront medicals / police report and biometric already on the system from previous application or done biometric before lockdown)

Anyone can ask them questions and they will respond.

I had a friend who helped fill the forms while I paid with my MasterCard. Maybe any of the seniors of this thread who are already in Canada May be able to help.

AIP update. Received AIP yesterday. From the letter I received I would feel that AIP is truly almost 70 to 80% guarantee of a positive result.

Nevertheless I still plan to defer my admission if I don’t get a complete approval before Sept 15. For me, my school will not give me a refund if I start the program and eventually do not get the study permit.

TIMELINE:
2nd application.
Date: June 27.
Biometrics already done.
Upfront medical updated to pass on the 7th of July.
AIP received on 18th of August.

It’s a very straightforward process. If you have any friend or family member that’s a PR or citizen they can apply for you. Just give them the details of your application. It costs $5. There are also those who do it commercially but I want to believe it will cost significantly more than the official $5.

It depends o. I followed the SOWP timeline thread and it can take as short as a few weeks to as long as years. Everything on this immigration journey depends on the whims and caprices of the Ogas at the Embassy.

Basically once you have a Study Permit your spouse is entitled to a work permit. Some people even apply at the same time i.e study permit and visiting visa for student, work permit for spouse. I think that’s a bit risky sha because for most married folks their spouse can serve as a good home tie for them.

Other people apply once they get the student visa and before they travel. Others wait till they get to Canada and apply.

I even know a couple that got the Study permit right at the border. The husband already had a visiting visa and so accompanied his wife. As she was being processed at the border to enter Canada he asked about a work permit for himself and they gave him the forms he filled them and there and then they gave it to him.

So it’s just a matter of each case and how the officer handling it feels.

Those are good points you stated there, one year will be a tough time to get a job and apply for your PR. But there are other criteria for getting points on the EE or CEC routes. Even on the CEC, people still get the requirements with a year program and a year PGWP and get their PR. So everyone can't follow the same path, we need to explain the details for the person to make an informed decision or direct the person to a weblink to read and make the decision themselves.

If you go back a few pages on this thread you will see where people who have passed through this process explain that often, by the time you get through with the first program which gives you one year you now have to apply for another 1 year program so as to get 2 years. Jobs have never been easy to come by in Canada for immigrants so it’s better to approach things prepared for the worst case scenario.
I think it is overly optimistic for someone to believe that they will find a job in the proper NOC and get PR within the space of 1 year. Many of us here have an overly rosy view of what life is like outside Nigeria.
Especially now with a global recession looming, it’s going to be even tougher so I think it’s better one just prepares for that.

That’s true. But for some candidates who are older (over 35) all the points from previous education and experience in home country may not be enough. Thus, the reason they are going through this route study route is because they need the extra points from Canadian education and work experience in Canada.
If you are younger than 30, it pays better to do your masters in Nigeria and apply for PR straight.

It’s not really that it doesn’t qualify you for PR. It’s just that you may need more than 1 year to get the necessary points for PR. For instance to get points for work experience in Canada you need at least 1 year work experience. What if you finish the program and it takes you a while to get a job in the proper NOC. Before you get the job and all that a greater part of that 1 year is over. Then you don’t get those points.
What if the one year PR expires before you are called to apply for PR? Then you have to leave Canada because Post Graduate Work Permit cannot be renewed.
It’s safer to get a course that will get you at least 2 years. No matter how bad it is one should have been able to get a job and the needed experience within 2 or 3 years.

I think you have to send the slip you got from the hospital by Webform. I did mine prior to applying so I attached the slip to the attachment.
Since you have already applied the only way to update your profile is a webform
