Glad to know you've finally received the visa officer's secret file (GCMS note) on your application.

In a situation like this, I would suggest your sponsor should obtain a bank reference letter that will attest to the fact that he is the sole signatory to his cooperate account and has satisfactorily been running this account since its creation date until now.

Your sponsor should also get a board resolution letter clearly written on the company's official letter headed paper. This letter should introduce your sponsor as the MD/CEO of the company, and in the letter, the board of directors should confirm that they are fully aware and in support of your sponsor (MD/CEO) of the company to sponsor your education and stay in Canada for a two years master's or PGD/C program in Canada. They should further state that they wouldn't pose to be a hindrance or obstruction to funds accessibility during the course of your studies in Canada and that adequate provisions are in place to making sure that funds are available for you without working in Canada to pay for your fees etc.


In your letter of explanation when carefully analysing and tackling the refusal grounds that were raised by the visa officer in your last application, you should ensure to draw the attention of the new visa officer to the aforementioned points about the board resolution letter and reference letter which you have added in this new application. Also elucidate in detail how the funds for your education will be spent by drafting a financial table detailing the annual funds available and annual expenses for your first year of studies. Having said that, your sponsor should also try to pay at least your tuition fees and have your living expenses transferred into your domicilary account.


I am confident if you implement the above points, it would considerably improve your application chances for approval.

It Is not really about you showing that you have all the money (mistake many are making) it's about where that money is coming from, that money should not come from company's account, it should come from his savings/ personal account.

Yes just wise, you are right and I learnt that on this thread. But we added the sponsor’s personal account as well. We just added the company account to show his source of income, because I was wondering if he just supports me with his personal account won’t they wonder where his money is coming from? As per he does not have paid employment as a business man.

So I got my GCMS notes today and I have to say I agree with all those who say the GCMS notes help you see the main concern of the VO. The reason for the rejection was a lack of funds which did not make sense to me because I had more then enough funds for my entire program plus upkeep.

Turns out the VO was concerned that [/b]we did not supply evidence that my sponsor had control of his company account[b].
Note, we submitted three accounts:

1. Mine in which the sponsor had already paid in my tuition and upkeep.

2. His personal account which was also okay

3. Company account to show his source of income as a self employed person because otherwise we had no evidence of how he earned his living. We also submitted incorporation documents of his company.

How does a self employed person show his source of income without showing his business account?

This question has always gotten some applicants convoluted. On the norm, medicals is required for applicants applying from most countries of the world i.e. Nigeria.

The answer should be NO if you've not stayed in any other country other Nigeria for 6 months or more. And YES if you've stayed.

[b][/b]Answering YES automatically creates a column in your GCKEY account to upload your medicals. [b][/b]If you answer NO, it won't rather medicals will be requested on a later date. It is the duty of the authorized panel physician to send the test result to IRCC. Also, a copy of the e-medical slip given to you can be sent to IRCC via Webform of Email. This is optional.

At the bolded please note that it does not ask you to upload your medicals. It gives you a form to fill which authorizes CIC to request for your medicals though of course if you have already done medicals then you can upload it in that space.

There is a link on all of the questions in that questionnaire The link is in form of a question mark (?). If you click that question mark it gives you further information.
In the case of this designated countries question it has to do with a list of countries that Canada has designated as countries from which if you are applying you need a medical report. Obviously Nigeria is on that list. But do your own findings as well by clicking on the question mark and reading the additional information.
Usually if you click yes, amongst the forms that will come for you to fill will be a medical request form which authorizes them to request for and access your medical records.

1. I won’t return due to my current employment status (I guess as I am self employed)
2. Insufficient funds.

Both companies (my personal business and sponsor) have been registered since around 2011 or 2012.

Hello my brothers and sisters in the house. A friend's study permit application was denied because the proposed program (Diploma in Database Administration) "is available for less online or in closer geographical location." The program of 2 years costs 16k annually. Please how can he respond to this.

It’s always very important to ensure that your program is not available online because VO have been known to reject visas because the program is easily available in Nigeria or online. Can he upgrade to a masters program and explain how a masters program from a first world country gives him an advantage with the job market as against a local degree?

Only a few schools actually ask for test of English. Majority of schools Nigeria is exempted because we are recognized as an English speaking country. I applied to about 6 schools and only one asked for test of English

5. Personal Bank account. Sponsor had already paid in 14m into my account. Fees for the entire program was about 6m. I even thought the money was way too much.

Sponsor is a business man. Submitted his own company’s incorporation documents and company account.
7. Sponsors letter of sponsorship explaining his finances and why he set aside that amount of money for my schooling (My business is actually a family run business and he is a partner so we tried to show how my degree will help move the business to a bigger playing field). I even added proposal to show how we plan to recoup the money spent on the degree in about 6 years.
8. Passport showing previous travel history.

I’ve read all through the thread and this only strengthened my resolve not to get married anytime soon or best put marrying anyone who doesn’t welcome the idea of living in Nigeria while I visit annually aside. I’m a British citizen in my early 30’s seriously considering getting married but in a dilemma of trying to find a balance of either bringing my to-be wife to the U.K. or leave her in Naija with both having it own challenges. Your not having worked before May. The question the VO will be asking is why has your husband suddenly decided to spend such a huge amount on your education?

I am in this situation too, though in my case I have been doing small business but just for pocket money, nothing substantial. I got a refusal and one of the reasons was current employment situation.

You will have to spend some time explaining in your SOP the earning power of your new degree and the job availability in Nigeria once you are done. Your Husband being your only sponsor is actually the best, as long as he has enough funds.

Please who has used ETX here in sending transcript. Is their service efficient and fast. I have a deadline for june 1. Tho i have send in unofficial copies to the school i am applying for, just got info my University is doing it this period via ETX

Etx is just an online portal, only useful to create the application for transcript. They don’t follow up, they don’t give update. Once your application is created they just wait for whenever the school is ready to process transcript. And you know Nigerian factor. If there is nobody on ground to “grease” your application those people at admin will just pack it to one side. So once you create the application on the ETX portal, look for someone in your school e.g a lecturer friend or non academic staff friend that will help you follow up on ground.

@sterling1122, to the best of my knowledge, applying for a post secondary certificate after a B.Sc is what earned you a “purpose of visit” denial. From what I have learnt there needs to be study progression, so you need to apply for a course that is linked to either your work experience or previous degree.

As for funds, it may be better to wait until the entire estate (your mum’s) is liquidated so you have the entire 11 million at your disposal. At the same time I don’t know if that money will suffice for the both of you at the same time. Though with these people sef one can never tell because even when you apply with more than enough funds they still deny.

To give yourselves the best chance, get another admission that shows study progression- perhaps a masters or at the very least a post graduate diploma. Then one of you should choose to apply while the other supports.

You also did not indicate if you work as I noticed you had a refusal for current employment situation. If you work include evidence of this - especially if it’s a good job.

Please I have questions bothering me since days now.
I had been refused of USA visiting visa before like last year (around June). My uncle that sent the invitation was the one that did the application for me and there were a list of lies, such as married (while actually I wasn’t married), employed in an oil company with salary of about 400k per month (while I wasn’t working, in fact just graduated), and fake documents to serve as proofs. And my mother’s name was changed mistakenly. Although I questioned the whole lies but he said that would be the only way they could grand me the visa as they would serve as home ties. And he is the same man sponsoring me.

Now that I want to apply for study permit myself without lies and with legit documents, I’m afraid they might check my history.

Please I really need a candid advice from experience gurus here on what to do and how to explain this to the VO.

Has anyone had same issues and was offered study permit?

Please someone should answer me as I have asked several people but no head way and the last person I spoke to directed me here.

They will definitely check the previous statements. That’s what background check is all about. I am not that experienced so I don’t know whether to advise you to stick to your lies or confess and beg for forgiveness. The gurus will soon be here.
