Nairaland AdsRe: Results Of Dynamic Ad Design Contest by ludot(m): 7:30pm On Oct 31, 2013
If I am to go for a designer, I will choose Lightheart that came 2nd. His 'call to action' is consistent.

No matter how beautiful your advert is, if it does not ask the viewer to do something, it is a waste of space.

Well done to all the designers.

@Seun you may want to let NairaLanders vote for the best adverts in subsequent competitions.

PoliticsRe: Ex-PHCN Worker Spends N5.5m Gratuity On Jeep by ludot(m): 3:08pm On Oct 29, 2013
1. You spend 5.5 m out of your 6m gratuity to buy a jeep
2. You spend 100k out of your 150k salary to buy a phone
3. You spend 20hrs out of your 24hrs in a day to argue about the the difference between 1 and 2 above.

Question: Is there any difference between 3 in one hand and 1 & 2 in the other hand?

*Hint: Time = Money.
BusinessRe: Googletrader Nigeria To Shut-down By November 11 2013!!! by ludot(m): 11:49am On Oct 27, 2013
Phder: Am not surprised! I knew this would eventually happen, I said so the day Seun posted the news about their (Google Trader) launch some years ago.

@OP. To answer your questions:

1. Nigeria is backward than people realise, take for instance logistic service in Nigeria is really poor, 80% of houses in Nigeria don't have a reasonable, straight forward address. For proper online transaction (like what Google Trader offers) the shipping and payment is the most important aspect of the entire business. Since we have various payment method (thanks to GTB and other new generation banks), the major problem now is shipping. The likes of Jumia, Konga e.t.c suffers the same fate too. Courier service in Nigeria is nothing to write home about, not just because the company offering this service are either too expensive to patronize, even if the offer cheap services, most address are untraceable.

2. Poor logistics is as a result of bad roads, poor internet facilities and other stuffs associated with perfect running of a courier service.

3. If a rich entrepreneur would invest heavily in courier services, then start-up won't fold up as a result of this.

4. Google has enough budget to spend on promoting Google Trader but the limiting factor is not within their reach, so the ROI (return on investment) does not commensurate for the expenses.
You are right, logistics is poor. Entrepreneurs should then start to think of businesses that won't require sending of physical goods. Businesses like 234give.com (an online fundraising platform). In years to come the owner will be making a killing!
PoliticsWhat Would You Love To See Become A Reality In Nigeria? by ludot(op): 6:39am On Oct 27, 2013
I know we all desire 24 hour power supply. I believe achieving 24 hour is just the starting point of development.

In addition to infrastructural development, we need policies that will help better the life of the average Nigerian and improve standard of living. What would you love to see become a reality in Nigeria?

For me I would love to see the introduction of unemployment allowance for graduates one day. What about you? Dreams do come true, don't they?
BusinessRe: Googletrader Nigeria To Shut-down By November 11 2013!!! by ludot(m):
The first mistake most start-ups make is thinking they will be successful overnight. It took Almighty Amazon an average of 6 years to break even and that was an era when so many dot-com companies went burst. At that time online business was in its infancy.

Online business is at its infancy at the moment in Nigeria and a lot of these online businesses will go burst.

For any startup I will recommend that they focus more on building value than making money in their first few years. While doing that spend as little as possible on marketing and let your business grow organically. Make use of digital marketing that cost next to nothing and monitor to see if people are using your service.

Reduce unnecessary overhead and cost.
Have a marketing budget and stick to it.

Above all market research is key! Do people want/need what you are offering? Are there cheaper, more convenient, safer alternatives to what you are offering?

Don't just start an online because everyone is doing it. That an online business is successful in another country does not mean it will be successful in Nigeria. You need to adapt yours to the Nigerian market. Even car manufacturers will tell you that their cars are made for the Nigerian roads. Even though Internet penetration may still be low in Nigeria but there is a rising number of people getting on the Web and that is because of smartphones. Majority of NairaLanders own a smartphone and many more are still buying. Mobile commerce is the future of internet business in Nigeria.

meekmk: Firstly I do hope this gets to the front page.

And I'm not trashing someones business, I just happen to have a problem with JUMIA's 5 days delivery policy.

Why on earth would i have to wait 5 days to receive an ordered Item, Within Lagos when i could as well go to the mall and get it.

5 days delivery policy for orders within lagos is just totally stupid and absurd if you ask me, C'mon i mean its Lagos... Why can delivery be same day..

AND Don't anyone say they are still growing because they are almost a year old now.

Secondly, A store which doesnt have Giftwrapping options, You can order gifts from them, Say My mum's Birthday is tomorrow morning, I cant place a fast order and have it delivered next morning, why then should i evn bother to waste my time on the website if it doesnt serve my most immediate needs.

They Do have their Plus sides too, but the service isnt comprehensive enough for me..

Please Share Experience.
If you are asked to pay more for same day delivery, will you?
PoliticsWhich Is Better For Nigeria: Capitalism Or Socialism by ludot(op): 4:14pm On Oct 25, 2013
The gap between the rich and the poor in Nigeria is so wide. The gap is even widening everyday as the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. This is the most prevalent characteristic of capitalism, "inequality".

So the question is, "what do you think is better for Nigeria; Capitalism or socialism?"

For me, I prefer socialism. The wealth of the nation is in the hands of few. With socialism, the wealth can be distributed and living standard will improve.

What do you think NairaLanders? Let's discuss political ideologies and share knowledge.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Speaks-out Against Same-sex Marriage At The UN by ludot(m): 1:35am On Oct 24, 2013
porka: Yes, more than that, homosexuality is a crime in Nigeria.
Homosexuality is not the only crime in Nigeria, is it? But it is the one people are most vocal about. Why?

As you continue casting your stones you just remember the verses below.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

New Living Translation (NLT)

9 Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,
10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.
11 Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Speaks-out Against Same-sex Marriage At The UN by ludot(m): 1:07am On Oct 24, 2013
porka: Homosexuality is man sleeping with or having sexual affection towards a man or woman sleeping with or having sexual affection towards a woman.

Fornication and Adultery are betrayal of trust either as a single or married person.
Thanks for the definitions. The bottom line is that they are all sins. Are they not?
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Speaks-out Against Same-sex Marriage At The UN by ludot(m): 12:46am On Oct 24, 2013
People are so quick to shout 'death to homosexuals'

How does homosexuality differ from fornication and adultery? The last time I checked, they are all sins according to the two major religions in Nigeria.

If you have never committed fornication or adultery before then you are free to cast the first stone.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Needs A Female President - Oshiomhole, Fashola by ludot(m): 12:57pm On Oct 23, 2013
GOD GIVE US MEN

God give us men!
A time like this demands Strong minds, great hearts, true faith, and ready hands;
Men whom the lust of office does not kill; Men whom the spoils of office cannot buy; Men who possess opinions and a will;
Men who have honor, men who will not lie; Men who can stand before a demagogue, And damn his treacherous flatteries without winking!
Tall men, sun-crowned, who live above the fog In public duty, and in private thinking;

- Josiah G. Holland (1819-1891)

That is the kind of president we need and it doesn't matter whether man or woman.

Christianity EtcRe: Why Did God Reject Cain's Sacrifice? by ludot(m):
Matthew 5:22 - 24 KJV

But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother had ought against thee

Leave there thy gift before the altar and first go reconcile with thy brother and come back to offer thy gift.

If you read the above verses in parallel with the story of Cain and Abel, it gives you an insight into why God rejected Cain's offering. Cain does not LOVE Abel. If you like give everything you have to God, if you don't love people, your gift is nothing to Him.

Read the Cain and Abel line by line and word for word.

In Hebrew 11:4 Paul said Abel gave more excellent sacrifice. And he taught in 1 Corinthians 12:31 and 1 Corinthians 13 that LOVE is the more excellent way.

Cain had always hated his brother Abel!
Nairaland AdsRe: Nairaland's New Dynamic Ads - Beta Test by ludot(m): 7:05pm On Oct 16, 2013
Nice improvements but I have questions.

6 slots for adverts when like 20 people have paid.

Let's say the adverts are rotated, that means my advert won't be there for a full day. Why then should I pay per day or per week.

Consider PPI or PPC as way of charging.

Why not create a post and ask potential advertisers to tell you what they want. I think that should be the starting point.
PoliticsRe: Bakare Speaks On APC Merger Party by ludot(m): 9:11pm On Aug 16, 2013
A group of people came together brandishing the word, ''PROGRESSIVES'' and you are hailing their party as the messianic party. The problem with most of us Nigerians is lack of knowledge. If you know what being progressive means in political terms then you will agree that APC is far from being ''progressive''.

Ask yourself if Awolowo was alive will he be part of APC? Forget all the nonsense they are shouting about being Awoists. Awolowo was a SOCIALIST to the core. PDP o..., APC o..., all of them are just capitalists. They are only fighting for their own pockets.

True opposition is between the masses and the elites, the socialists and the capitalists, the working class and the ruling class, the left vs the right. Check most developed countries, that is what obtains there.

A true progressive believes in the equality of men. A true progressive does not believe in political god-fatherism.

CelebritiesJuliet Ibrahim: Kidney Transplant Will Not Cost More Than $50k #saveojb by ludot(op):
This is what Ghanaian actress, Juliet Ibrahim had to say about #saveOJB

"I think it's about time I speak up on this OJB topic that most of you ignorant people are using to harass and insult celebrities. First of all, every celebrity has his/her own responsibilities n family to take care of, if a colleague is ill n needs help we do contribute in our own way to help out whichever way we can.

I don't see why u people can't help out as well? Who said your 1000 naira can't amount to something that can raise the sum needed for OJB's transplant? For you people tagging me in your tweets, I am sure you know I run a kidney disease foundation, hence I know the exact cost for a kidney transplant in india.

I have been quiet, cus I have asked the people in charge of OJB broadcast to contact my foundation because I know a kidney transplant will not cost more than 50k usd. Why are they requesting for 100k when so many cheaper deals with hospitals out there in India even in Ghana can be worked out to save OJB? To get the necessary help, those in charge of OJB fundraising need to reach out to the right people and stop harassing celebrities for funds "
