To paraphrase a wise man: "For the nation to survive [and thrive], the tribe must die." In the year 2021, sad that this aphorism still needs to be cited. |

South African Air Force at work during the volcanic eruption in Goma, DR Congo...

Odunayaw:At the end of my tether! |
kabe1:Outstanding. Wish our Shipyards had bid for the contract. |
Flanker:Which Libyan army? GNA or LNA? |
fabselad:Cameroon can easily get hold of Paramount Advanced Technologies (PAT) to upgrade its MI-24s to Super Hind, just like Algeria did. |
Stargate254:I suspect it's the latest version of the OTT Puma M36-MK V, otherwise known as the M36 Victory. I've reached out to a mate at OTT to confirm if it is the Victory, cos their website only mentions the upgrade, but carries no final pic of the finished product. |
Sizzorkay:I'm surprised people are unfamiliar with this. Down here banks, chemists, police stations/govt offices and even Uber taxis etc have installed those for a year now. They've become so normalised I hardly notice them anymore. |

No matter how Covertly or Supremely one tries, the Augubugub can never be extracted out of Augustine! ![]() |
Nemesis4you:Hahaha! |
kabe1:You do realise you're going to be talking to the same person, right? Augugu -> Supreme what what -> Covert -> Joscofelix(?) Wasn't sure about the latest iteration until he slipped up a few days ago and the diction mirrored the previous 3 characters. |
yoged:Flown by Pakistani Air Force Il76. https://www.defenceweb.co.za/aerospace/aerospace-aerospace/nigerian-jf-17-deliveries-apparently-complete/

Some people know how assets in the military operate, so dont need to reply. But it seems some here have no idea. For example, some here advocate buying 1/2 of something and think that's enough. Let me come to the point: 3 of anything in the military, if you're using it properly, means only 1 operationally. I'm sorry guys, but I have to tell you: if you buy 12 tanks, only 4 will always be available for ops if you run a proper logistics chain. You put in more than that and at some point, all 12 won't be available. If you have 3 jets, only 1 should be available for ops. Yes you can fly all 3, but inevitably all 3 won't be available at the same time. This is why the immutable laws of logistics exist: 1 in ops, 1 in training, 1 in maintenance. 3 of everything, if you want to operate them efficiently. And that includes people (soldiers) : 1 soldier in the field; 1 in training for deployment; 1 having come back and resting/going on courses etc. The 1/3 principle is most sacrosanct. Ignore this and everything goes arse-about. |
Odunayaw:I wanted to use that phrase, but, then too many people would jump on to say, "See, told you dude was Frum!" |
Bloody hell, the intellectual content here is deteriorating. |
I see that some publications are still pushing the "NAF buys 24 M-346 aircraft" story. So much that Leonardo has had to issue a statement saying "we have no such contract with Nigeria". I really do not understand people who deliberately spread falsehoods online. |
Litmus:No problems mate. Still a good question and worthy of engagement. |
Litmus:In this particular case, that Paramount and US partners were late entrants and still made the shortlist is a success. Even if they're not chosen - I don't think they'll win it - their marketing in other countries improves dramatically when the premier military on the planet shortlists you in a programme run by their Special Operations Command. And what's your definition? |
Lurker4Long:I find it interesting that Sierra Nevada submitted both M28 and Super Tucano for this programme. Oh well, hedging their bets. And in other developments: "Three A-29s are being delivered to AFSOC later this year, but not for Armed Overwatch. They will be used to train 6th SOS instructors for Combat Aviation Advisor embeds with foreign A-29 operators." Personal opinion, not a reflection on Super Tucano, which I think is a superb platform: I'm always wary when countries export weapons which they themselves have rejected in open competition. That goes for SA, Russia, Turkey, China and all other arms exporters. |

Congratulations to Paramount for making the shortlist. "Some breaking news: US SOCOM has selected five aircraft to participate in the Armed Overwatch flight demonstration. They are: Beechcraft AT-6, AirTractor AT-802U, Leidos Bronco II, MAG Aerospace MC-208 and Sierra Nevada M28/C-145. Super Tucano A-29 is out." https://aviationweek.com/defense-space/us-armed-overwatch-competition-restarting-after-six-month-hiatus

kikuyu1:I dont know about calling that an "arms dealer's arsenal" though. Here in SA, especially on farms, that's regarded as a beginner's collection. What I do find suspicious, is that he claimed to be a journalist, and other pictures have emerged of him in Mali with Malian soldiers. On the other hand, let's not forget the rivalry between Ivan and Jean-Fraude over CAR, and Russian media have made a meal of this. |
Odunayaw:Oh I have no doubt they'd have their clocks cleaned. Just trying to understand the military thought behind all their attacks, and plotting them on a map, a clear pattern emerges. Are they crazy enough to try it? |
Odunayaw:They changed the font. |
