Supposedly Twitter spreads fake news and is a threat to Nigerian security. How is that possible when most online news in Nigeria is NOT shared via Twitter?
Rightly or wrongly, Nigeria opted for the JF17. It's an improvement on what obtained before. They didn't acquire your favourite fighter jet, get over it.
The US govt response to the Twitter ban is correctly, to point out its illegality in terms of Nigeria's current Constitution. Whither the July 2021 delivery of the Tucanos?
lionel4power: This is one topic I try to avoid commenting on because both LNA and GNA are both intertwined in a very complex way.
LNA came out of the Libyan resistance that removed Gadaffi while the GNA made up of militias from various part of the country managed to defeat ISIS while LNA was rearming.
GNA took Tripoli since 2017, LNA tried to overrun it since 2019 without any luck despite several spirited attempts.
GNA made of poorly armed militias gave Haftar a run for his money even with all his backings. Russia even had to send several fighter jets and bombers to help keep him in the war.
GNA fights like jihadists, while LNA tried their best to fight and appear to the international stage as a professional force. That's why you see those Gucci gears in their exercises.
Personally, I'll suggest they both combine
Come now Lionel. Do you think my comment was made in ignorance of all you wrote here?
Yeah, everyone is asking for VPN. I love holy rebellion
I also love righteous rebellion. I'd go so far as to argue we all have a duty, as citizens, to rebel against unjust law or diktat. When the abominable Zuma was president, he tried to suppress photos of his illegally-funded by taxpayer money country home.
Amongst the leftover laws from the Apartheid police state, there's the National Key Points Act which forbids photographs of key infrastructure deemed to be pivotal to national security. It's unconstitutional on various grounds in today's SA, but it remains in the statute books because nobody has ever been prosecuted for infringement and therefore it has not come up before the courts.
Overnight, Zuma's private compound was included in the list of Key Points and a statement issued by the Presidency stating that it was illegal to photograph National Key Points. What did South Africans do?
We posted photos of Zuma's place and other Key Points, tagged the various departments responsible and dared them to prosecute.
Not a single prosecution, and the emperor was shown to have no clothes!
but involving a 'another wiser man' out of nowhere seems to be personally motivated
Unless you mistook me as the wise man in my original post
Was only counting "wise man" from my original post. Don't worry, got nothing but love for you man. You're not related to the Guptas and all an' all. And I..ia continues to buy Electronic Warfare goods from SA. Whilst the backwater exports undesirables to us.
Odunayaw: The only reason why this government hasn't totally lost legitimacy is because there are two tribes; Politicians and the populace.
But failed state? Nah, sensationalism.
I'm not persuaded by the argument, though they try to cloak in political science theory. Nevertheless, if it takes hold in DC, the ramfications for Nigeria and the region are ghastly.
Must bid you good night. My parents got vaccinated from Covid today and I'm hosting them for lunch tomorrow. In a year!
Sizzorkay: RIght? In a so called democracy? No law was passed here, and someone is talking about committing an offense, what offense?
To paraphrase the young'uns here in SA, "Some people don't deserve nice things".
And I see the Council on Foreign Relations already has a report out in Foreign Policy magazine saying Nigeria has moved from a weak state to a failed state. Both very influential in DC, I hope for Nigeria and West Africa that this doesn't gain purchase.
Sizzorkay: besides i'd expect lawyers in naija to sue the fg for this ban by now
They don't sue when people are arrested and paraded before cameras before appearing in court -which I've established is illegal in Nigeria as in most countries - so not holding my breath.
I'd love to hear a legal, reasoned explanation from someone who supports this authoritarian move. And no, saying Twitter threatens national security doesn't qualify; it's tantamount to saying they hurt Buhari's feelings by taking down his tweet.
There is no such thing as free launch in this world
And do you know which country many of these free VPNs are hosted
Also if security of financial data is a serious concern use VPN services from established & legally registered companies preferably in EU atleast than the company will be legally bound to honour security of their services
As another wiser man said, "if it's free, you're not a customer, you're the product".
Loads more proxy servers around. As demolition said, they do get congested and you might have to cycle. Tread carefully though. I've been using a combo of Tor browser and paid VPN for 15 years now.
And in other related news, I see VPN is the most searched for expression in Nigeria for the last 18 hours!
shadowprimezero: Damn!!! SAAF kills it when it comes to search and rescue. I still remember those dangerous maneuvers pulled off by Oryx pilots during the Mozambique floods. Really job well done
And lest we forget, Zimbabwean troops and at least 1 Moz Air Force chopper were also there:

Sea rescue, mountain rescue and fire fighting are cheap and effective ways for peacetime chopper pilots to sharpen their skills.
Bearing fruit in the DRC right now as Oryx pilots are first preference for combat search and rescue, insertion and extraction.
