kikuyu1: I swear certain Saffas blame Zuma for the weather, the falling rand, domestic violence and everything! IIRC,I once saw a BBC article blaming him for halitosis in the ME! I admit I don't have all the details but I do know the the State Capture enquiry quietly returned the Gupta property confiscated and Zuma's son Duduzane was also cleared. The mediocrity that is Zuma deserves the scorn. Halitosis? You're mistaken about the State Capture commission: it has no such powers and is yet to produce its report. Duduzane Zuma has yet to be charged for corruption. He was found not guilty in court for culpable homicide. No Gupta properties have been returned. Just last week, more properties were in fact, seized. |

kabe1: From been referred to the Group of Eight industrialized nations , to Group of Seven Industrialized nations and now to the Group of Seven Largest democracies.
Semantics , just call it group of American lackeys against China, and be done with it.
You keep mentioning South-Africa, for all that is holy, your country has been in and out of recession for the last 4 years.
You're funny, there's first a different meeting held by the G-7 nations, before invited guests like South-Africa are called in for a different session.
You should be more worried about challenges present in South-Africa than mastubating over a G-7 conference with no real direct impact on the lives of ordinary South-Africans. |

Sizzorkay: No mind them, these fvkers now suddenly remember China isn't a democracy and now want to form a coalition of democratic countries to counter China, isn't that funny, they didn't remember they aren't a democracy while their corporations were pouring billions into China and making a killing. It's just US's insecurity, they know they can't compete with China one and one, now they doing around trying to turn every major country against china, in other words, to try to stop China's rise so America won't be surpassed. All of a sudden now they want to copy China's belt and road initiative? why not do that 10yrs ago or 20yrs ago. Silly people. No country should have monopoly of power. US is busy have military drills in China and Iran's backyard, but are making threats over two Iranian ships coming their way to probably Venezuela . What i'm wondering is, if all countries, especially developing countries start using crypto and bypass fiat currency, that should render the US dollars useless a bit and America's ability to sanction weakened Now here's a proper argument to be had. You present both economic and political issues. I'd like to separate them thus in my answer: 1) politically, China is not a democracy and rightly should not be part of self-chosen democracies; 2) China is a rising economic power and should be accommodated in multilateral institutions; 3) middle and lesser powers should find a balance between 1 and 2 above, without getting entangled in great power intrigues. I'd argue until 2007/8, our continent, led by Mbeki, Obasanjo and Bouteflika had managed to find that balance. Mediocrities after led us to the drift where our fate was determined elsewhere. As a South African, I'm pleased we're slowly clawing back a coherent foreign policy where we're getting back to being taken as seriously as we were back under pres Mbeki. Not as a lackey of the west or east, but as an independent player, with independent views. An example: SA is the 5th largest source of FDI on the rest of the continent, but distant sources like Russia, Turkey, UAE are taken more seriously. All our fault, because of the past Zuma administration. The current administration intends changing that, and yes the outside world will notice. |

kabe1: Group of American lackeys.
What meaningful impact can be made without China? Interesting. Who's the lackey? I won't insult you by referring you to who the G7 is and represents. Nor to what the current US president refers to as a "Coalition of Democracies". And to answer your question, you're aware China is part of the G20, right? And the difference between the 2 structures? Or the counterweight that BRICS intends to provide? Or that India and South Africa participate in deliberations of the G7 (by invtitation), the G20 and BRICS (as members)? There's an old adage: if you're not seated at the table, you're on the menu. Countries seating at either of the 3 tables of the G7, G20 and BRICS are definitely not on the menu. |

Lurker4Long: Spare me wahala, I beg oo. Guest invitations were announced in February.
I'm more interested in the geopolitics at play, when one considers Biden's campaign undertaking of a "Coalition of Democracies", taken in with whom he called, and the order he in which it was done.
Then the Secretary of State Blinken followed suit. And now Boris as chair of the current G7 summit. For example, Brazil might feel aggrieved at the omission. But under Bolsonaro, do they fit in the so-called coalition of leading democracies?

bidexiii: Good one for south Africa defence industry. As I said on the pictures thread, I don't think Paramount will win it, for specific US domestic political reasons. Still, "USSOCOM finalist" on a brochure gives a company immeasurable marketing cachet. |

kabe1: I hope Paramount wins this order. I dont think they will, purely because their main US partner, Leidos -though no 248 in the Fortune500 - doesn't have the lobbying and political clout of a competitor like Textron, for example. But having got this far in this competition, as a late entrant, will enhance their prospects elsewhere. |

kabe1: There's a 35 years gap from the launch of SAS Drakensberg. There is no evidence the shipyard would be able to handle such a project.
The design for the hydro graphic ship which Southern African Shipyards is building for the South African navy is imported. Indicating a capability shortfall.
Steel used for building the ship for Project Hotel is also imported, the engines, navigational equipments, shafts and generators are imported.
The contract for Project hotel was awarded in 2017, yet till this year 2021 the ship is still been built.
Steel cutting for the Nigerian navy LST began in November 2019, the ship has been launched and would be transferred to Nigeria next year.
The capability for a South-African shipyards to deliver an LST for Nigeria is nonexistent. Awarding a contract to South-Africa would be similar to building the LST in Nigeria.
P.S: This is not to say South-Africa does not produce some nice military equipments like MRAPs etc
However given current capabilities no South-African shipyard would be able to build an LST for Nigeria. |

kabe1: Let's be realistic. Asserting something repeatedly, does not imbue the assertion with logic. For the last time, try and answer the question: why would a shipyard currently building our hydrographic vessel, not be capable of building your LST? |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Lurker4Long: 4:37pm On Jun 10, 2021 |
kabe1: SAS Drakensberg was built in 1986
The second ship hasn't been built.
Yet you want to build an LST for Nigeria?
I admire your optimism but you really need to wake up to reality. I guess you missed the part where I said the Hydrographic vessel is currently being built, incidentally by the same company that built SAS Drakensberg. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Lurker4Long: 1:30pm On Jun 10, 2021 |
kabe1: South-African shipyards don't currently have the skills to deliver complex ships.
There's no way any company from RSA would have bidded for the LST. Shipyards that have built pic1 and currently building pic2 cannot do pic3?

Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Lurker4Long: 8:38pm On Jun 09, 2021 |
Odunayaw: Yeah, I didn't imply it was cheap. I'm only glad we could keep a bulk of that investment in-country
My joy will be full when we also have exports I would've loved for our shipyards to have got the work. SAS, Paramount/Nautic Africa and Damen SA would have done it cheaper. But regardless of where it was done, well done to the Nigerian Navy. |
