mykh01:

You rest your argument on empirical fact, as a philosophy student am sure that there is more to seeing than it meet the eyes. I would have love to you to tackle the question on the existence of mind.
Moreover, your claim that atheism needs no defence is not tenable. Atheist have always put up rational, empirical or scientific argument in negating the existence of a supreme being, which is usually held by the religionist.
I will like you to put up a defence for these arguments that follows.
1. The concept God is universal among humanity, irrespective of there geographical location, cultural belief, race, colour of skin among others. What account for the universality of a concept that atheist belief to false. In my opinion, falsifying a claim because it is popular is not enough to justify the popularity and universality of God.
2. With my little knowledge of the scientific world, scientists over the ages as made ground breaking record in different phase of reality, but are yet to unravel the misery of creation, Darwinian evolution theory in my opinion raise more questions than it tends to answer. The point here is that, different cultures of the world have there unique creation stories which are closely tied with a supreme existent who overseer the duty of creation or delegate authority to smaller gods it is the case in the Yoruba creation story likewise in the Jewish account among others. I agree, those myth might not account for the exact record of how reality came into existence, but science either as not proffer a better explanation. Which logical explanation can you offer for the consistent, view of a supreme being in those world views?
am sure we cant get to a conclusion, but i will like to learn from you.

Still with the shuffle Bro.. This dance has no end. grin

Like I said, the onus is not on the Atheists to disprove the non-existence of something Theists "BELIEVE" (Not KNOW) it exists. If you say you have a Car, the onus is not on me to prove you don't, it's on you to show us you do have one because that is your claim. grin So until there is tangible and verifiable proof of God's existence, Theists will always need to keep doing the shuffle to skirt past the matter of proof.

You talk about God being a Universal concept. I wonder if you realise what the word "concept" means.. For one thing, it means an 'idea'. And that I can never deny you. All that God really is, is an Idea.. Ideas are not tangible things until you put in work to bring an idea into reality... grin And speaking of universal concepts "once upon a time, it was a universally accepted concept that the earth was flat".. grin

Second point is yet another dud. Your first mistake is thinking Science claims to have it all figured out. Science puts the world at about 4.5 - 5 Billion years old. How old is the Darwainian theory? Have you even bothered to sit and understand Darwin's theory? Like have it broken down in simple English? Trust me, if you can only have understood where Darwin's theory came from, you may have chosen to pursue a career in evolutionary science.

Now let me put your mind to rest, Science isn't LAW. Science have never claimed to have figured it all out. That's why in Science, what you have are mostly Theorems like Relativity, evolution, gravitation, e.t.c.. The reason they are theorems and not Laws is because as further research continues, they are subject to change the more we learn about those subjects. If you dig back into science and research it well, you will see that these theories have been changing and evolving over time.

It's easier to just sit somewhere and go "Hey, this whole world is very complex so someone in the sky must have created it" and just keep moving. But when you do that, all you will ever have is "BELIEF" not "KNOWLEDGE". That's why you can't prove anything. That's why Theists dread the question about proof. That's why you know nobody that has been to heaven. That's why you do not know the location of hell. That's why you can't prove that Angels are human like creatures with wings. That's why you don't know the complexion of God because he is a concept. That's why religion forbids you from asking question (basically barred from researching any thing). That's why you heard stories about Jonah being swallowed and living inside a fishes belly for 3 days and coming out alive and you have never thought that was ridiculous but you can tell a child that Santa Claus is not real. grin

Like I said before, Atheists have no burden of proof.

If God is a largely accepted concept, maybe it's a herd mentality thing. Scientists have never been in the majority at any point in human existence.

Your question on the existence of the mind is not worth going into because the mind is intangible. Next thing you will go into is dreams. I have walked that path before. God is it is preached and portrayed in the Bible is not intangible. He had conversations with Satan. He use to fellowship with Adam and Eve every other evening. He wrote commandments on mountain stones. He threw down food from heaven. He met face to face with Moses. So please don't try to do the kind shuffle with me.. I am an Engineer, it wouldn't work with me.

No proof = Non existence. The onus is on you.

The same way you have the right to keep shouting in our ears that God does not exist is the same way I am allowed to shout it on the mountain top that the God of Israel is alive and he rules in the affairs of men.It is irrelevant if you agree or not. So you sir, should stop trying hard because your opinion does not change him or his existence. Before and after he remains who he is.I see you are actually trying to convince yourself that God does not exist and I am not going to get into an argument with you. Keep looking for proofs, believe what you will and don't bother quoting me.What an arrogant generation of men. kisss

"The God of Israel... " grin That is something I have never quite understood either.. You say the God you worship created the entire world and it's content yet he is an Israeli, has a lot of Jewish names, impregnated a Jewish undergaed girl, had a Jewish Son, says for you to make his floating paradise you must love Israel (even if you are a Palestinian grin)...

How did God end up being Israeli? grin

Arrogant generation!? grin Cos we ask for proof? You mean you wouldn't like to have proof? undecided If you had a chance to finally see God live, wouldn't you jump at it? So why do you consider me arrogant for asking questions you have been brainwashed and taught not to ask? undecided Your God is a figment of your imagination if you cant prove it..

What are you talking about. You believe the human being that manufactured the jet but you do not believe the all knowing, all powerful and ever faithful God who created the manufacturers of the jet.You believe what they said about their product but do not believe the ability of the one that created them to rescue. Sad.

You can prove the existence of this creator you speak of Sir so why do you keep on yapping about him?

Show us a proof.. Like a Picture, drivers license, Video, Is he White or Black or Hispanic or Asian or Pigmy, what accent does he speak with.. Real proof. Until then, please allow us rest.

Lol, if I was in the front row during that testimony,, the G.O will run, the of WTF look I will give as he is sharing that testimony he wouldn't have believed it,

As for that pastor, he is learning work, that excuse is too fake for this modern times, Nobody told him that based on that excuse everyone needs private jets?

he would have said he is using it for church outreach, to reach more people in different continents and preach the word of God because God doesn't want anyone to go to hell, he wants his children to enjoy eternal life with him. Hallelujah somebody. Amen.

grin Kenneth Copeland and Duplantis are not learners o!! Na den even teach Oyedepo den work because to loot Oyinbo people hard pass to loot Africans. grin

And I kid you not.. The video is online. If you listen to those Men talk about their Private Jet and why they need it, you may never put a single Kobo in the collection box ever again. grin

Key parts from the video..

5 ridiculous reasons for televangelists like Copeland and Duplantis to own a private jet.

1. To speak with the Lord: “That’s why we’re on that airplane,” DuPlantis declares. “We can talk to God.”

2.So people don’t think you’re batsh*t crazy: Face it, if you suddenly jump up while waving your hands and praising the Lord in coach, the pilot may be forced to land the plane and have you taken away. But in a private jet, no one can hear you scream.

3. To avoid being trapped in a long, metal tube full of doped-up demons: Copeland insists a faith leader needs a private jet because flying in a “long tube” with demons from “this dope-filled world” is deadly and is “agitating” to the spirit. Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up.

4. Because you “can’t get there without this’: The world’s in such bad shape, and — OH! — the horrible “mess that these airlines are in today.”  That’s why “we’ve got to have this.” Maybe the world would be in a better state if these swindlers’ “churches” had to pay taxes like the rest of us.

5.. To keep praising the Lord: Without a private jet, Ken Copeland swears “I would have to stop — — I’m being very conservative — at least 75 to 80, more like 90 percent of what we’re doing. Because you can’t get there from here.”

I dont like argueing religion but am moved to respond to your extremism. You want an empirical justification to prove the existence of a super sensible existent. Bro, am sure dats almost impossible, but nevertheless the lack of empirical fact does not deny God's existence. I want to you answer my question, Do you have a mind?

Again with the shuffle.. This is why you Theists need to quit trying.

Everytime Theists are asked to prove the existence of their God, they always look for other indirect means of answering the question or trying to answer a question with a question or go off on some philosophical bullshit that still ends up not PROVING the existence of their God.

On this thread alone, You have asked "Do you have a Mind?" in trying to prove the existence of a God. Some guy used "Can you create Air" another one said "Can you create water?", and it just goes on and on.. I have been through them all; "Do you dream?", e.t.c, e.t.c...... grin grin

If you enter your Bank and Ask your teller for proof of statement of account and he starts telling you about Neon signs outside, you know there is a problem. THERE IS NO TANGIBLE PROOF THAT A GOD EXISTS... Simple and Short. The fact that you do not understand certain aspects of life dubbed mysteries does not mean you should take the most comfortable and may I say lazy route of attributing it to the existence of a Supreme being. Once upon a time, Malaria was considered a curse from the Gods. Swarming Locusts and grasshoppers were considered Gods punishment.. No Rains mean the Gods needed human and animal sacrifices to appease them cos rains were a blessing from God. The Rainbow was a sign from God until we realised it wasn't. grin

So I repeat, if you KNOW and you are SURE that a God exists, why do you need to BELIEVE? grin

But this man is better than you. Saying God does not exist is the most dumbest thing I've ever heard. If you don't believe there's God. Please make water. Create it. Make air.

If God exists then show him to us and stop using all these primary school arguement.

The stupidest part of you Christians (and every other religion) arguing the existence of your God is that you people "BELIEVE".. If something exists and you knew it, you would not need to believe it. grin grin I hope that isn't too much for you to understand.

That G550 Jet did not crash because of all the pains taking engineering and re-engineering that went into its design and whatever turbulence it faced was not stronger than the factor of safety limits of the Jets engineering. And the fact that the Titanic sank is not a proof of the existence of your imaginary friend. grin That logic is just as ridiculous and daft as trying to use air to prove the existence of God. grin So the proof of a loving God's existence is in his ability to sink a ship with thousands of people on board simply because the designer said it was unsinkable? grin grin grin Why would I even want to worship such a God? grin

Look, stop side - tracking, if you say you "KNOW" that God exists then show him to us, shown us a picture, a video, a telegram written by him, direct proof.. All this create Air, create water is rubbish... If you say you know you have a sister and I say prove it, you will not go showing me the picture of your father's Car as proof your sister exists will you?

Erm

I do not think education is the answer especially theoretical as you seem to opine unless you are emphasizing skills acquisition.

However, I agree with the fact that we don't need super structures as this so called " world class " hospital. The problem with these so called projects is that they lack proper research as to their suitability to the Nigerian environment and also double as money siphoning avenues.

You are very wrong..

Education is always the answer.. Educate and build capacity. If they did, they would not have needed foreign Doctors and Nurses to efficiently run the hospital.

Secondly, we do need these super structures (No be our own bad pass).. World Class hospitals are mostly situated in such structures because they normally house many divisions and branches of medicine.. The problem was not in the size of the structure. Like someone said, it's in the planning and execution.

First challenge a hospital of that magnitude will definitely face is power.. Powering that hospital solely from generators would have been unsustainable and impractical. This is the type of project you put on a dedicated power grid from like a Gas turbine. National grid won't work unless they know to never turn the power off.. Most of those machines need constant electricity not this start and quench power.

Secondly was the cost of maintenance. Fixing/servicing Machines, keeping the building up to code, laundry bill, etc. .

Third was the cost of salaries.. Especially if they were using expatriate doctors.

Then if the hospital was open to Akwa Ibom people (civil servants) on like a Government health insurance scheme, was that structure negotiated and understood? If it was subsidised, were the terms clearly spelt out?

Whatever they do, the Government cannot afford to keep financing that Hospital directly. They should enter into a contract with a Medical Company that will run the Hospital purely as a "For-Profit" hospital. Charge whatever fees they like and make a profit where they can keep a certain percentage and remit a certain percentage to the State Government. Then maybe a quota of free treatments/surgeries be put aside for Locals every month/year that will be covered by the Government.. The target should be these Nigerians that keep going to India for treatment .. Some people spend in excess of 15k USD for those treatments so why not charge it here and do a great job at it..

Many atimes with these grand projects like Tinapa, Uyo stadium, National Theater, this Mega Hospital, Murtala Muhammad Airport, the Cinema in Uyo, e.t.c.. The easiest part of these types of Projects are always the construction.. The hardest part is the management (not just structural) of the project..

Just wait, Le Meridian in Uyo will soon collapse as well because just like Nitel and NEPA, the Governments dont pay its bills.

The story of Akwa Ibom State will be no different from that of Cross Rivers State...

This think goes beyond re-branding police or army......it is Nigerians that need re-branding

We lack love for our fellow citizens.......If the average Nigerian loves his neighbor...if tomorrow he becomes a soldier or police officer that love will remain.......

The average Nigerian loves to oppress his neighbor and this has carried on into every facet of our public life.....

Parents need to bring up their children to respect and love their fellow citizens...otherwise this ish will continue to reoccur

I beg to differ..

The Nigerian who joins the Police or Army and starts oppressing people does so not just because he or she is a horrible person, but because the Police and Army gives the person the authority to do so and get away with it.

Do you think all Armed Forces perssonnel in tbe U.S are good people? They Are not. Their army consists KKK people, skinheads, Neo-Nazis and a mix of good people too.. But within the Army they can't exhibit their hatred as they would like and they can't do it with the uniform on.. Wether they hate blacks, gays, Mexicans or whatever, it stays a secret whilst in uniform. In their houses no wahala. But here it's the opposite. The evil comes out when they wear the uniform.

Rebrand the entire armed forces and Police and any weapons bearing agency.

This is part of why the camouflage is being banned for civilians because it represents terror. When I said it, some people jumped me. In the U.S and Europe and other sane Nations where the camouflage is not outlawed, you will notice that nobody fears the Soldiers. That's because soldiers don't abuse their uniforms and authority.

SARS IN Rivers State are just as bad as the Criminals..

The first issue I have is that they have no uniform or identifying feature and they seem to have express permit to indiscriminately and without cause use their weapons.

I remember one day on one of my drives from Lagos to Port Harcourt, I had passed them at Rumuji junction just as they were entering the highway.. Cos I was speeding I didn't get to meet them again until Uniport Junction when they eventually caught up to me in traffic. They were not chasing me but when they entered the traffic, I just started hearing sound of automatic gunfire. They were shooting in the air for vehicles to clear for them to pass. I had to duck inside my car for fear of a stray bullet hitting me. And this was the third time I was witnessing this type of behavior from them in Port Harcourt. On one occasion, it was a Checkpoint inside Trans Amadi and for every car they stopped, they did so with gun shots in the air.. grin grin

I don't understand how the Nigerian Police can even think such recklessness and unprofessionalsm is an appropriate behavior for the Police.
