RomanceHow To Network At A Wedding by magazineguy(op): 6:57am On Feb 11, 2017
http://tushmagazine.com.ng/how-to-network-at-a-wedding/

There are lots of articles on the ‘How Tos’ for all occasions, from the ‘how to dress to a Wedding’, to ‘how to dress for a job interview’. But then, many won’t realize that a high percentage of people attend these to network.

Be it their potential suitor, a business associate or a long lost friend. Basically they attend this function to network, socially or for business reasons.

“You should always dress accordingly. If you are going to the hamptons make sure you look as good as the hamptons people. Don’t dress like you’re going to a birthday party next door.”

Enjoy.

Always Make Small Talks.

So you are at a wedding reception, and your friend that invited you sits you at a table with total strangers. And you think to yourself, ‘shissh what a bummer’.

Well no, that’s not the way or the kind of spirit to be in, Try as much as possible to engage the nearest person in a conversation. Keep it short and simple. Nothing technical or over the top.

If it’s a Lady, you can compliment something she has on, like this, ‘I must say, your jewelry is completely radiant.’

Note the use of words, that will catch her off guard for 5 seconds, she will then proceed to saying ‘thank you’, or offer a compliment back.

If it is a Guy, ‘I don’t know if it’s my taste buds, but this chicken is a tad too spicy.’, or ‘You look good, you’re confident.’, or ‘Your vocabulary is articulate.’

Definitely he must say something back.

Voila! You have opened the gates for a friendly chit chat.

2. Be on top of your fashion game.

So we all know that one lady that shows up at a wedding looking better than the bride. Yes!

Always dress like it is your wedding, there is no such thing as being overdressed, they lied! There is no word like ‘overdressed’ – It does not exist.

Make sure you attend a wedding looking like a top model, best believe all the men and the women will want to talk to you.

The women will want to know what you’re wearing, who made it and the likes. While the men might just want to compliment you.

3. Confidence is everything.

Believe in yourself.

You are a star.

Remember you are a Child of a King!

Always say these things to yourself over and over till you feel it, you feel your shoulders held up high, your face forward, your chin up.

Most times, you’ll hear people say, ‘ The wedding was just there, I was alone, I didn’t have much fun’

Low self-esteem! Squash that feeling!

Do not feel timid or have a spirit of fear, go into the room with an air of confidence, be a crowd attractor. Be so confident in yourself that other people will want to compliment you just because.

Remember you are A STAR.

4. Always Wear A Smile, Also Bring A Gift!

Attending a wedding without a gift sounds very awkward. Its being said that even a week after the wedding people will remember you, the lad/guy that gave out the best souvenirs, or the lady with the prettiest smile.

Just come along with something.

So if you can’t physically network with guests, maybe your confidence level isn’t quite there yet, let your gifts do the networking for you.

And for those of you that go to weddings with no positive vibes or mindset, Change! Change!

So guys, next Saturday when you’re getting ready for a wedding ceremony be ready to apply these tips.

Remember to Smile, you are a STAR!

Jobs/VacanciesHow To Effectively Deal With Job Dissatisfaction by magazineguy(op): 4:16pm On Feb 10, 2017
The issue of job dissatisfaction is increasingly becoming prevalent in the society. This problem can be largely attributed to the pattern of employment in the country. The country’s high rate of unemployment has caused the migration pattern in the labour market to lack a visible order. Rather than settling for jobs that befit their educational qualification or experience level, people now settle for the available jobs even when it doesn’t meet their expectations.

Consequently, this employment trend has led to an increase in the number of dissatisfied employees in the labour force. These dissatisfied employees usually struggle with finding passion for the jobs and they only have to drag themselves out of bed daily to work from morning to evening doing that job, either because of the need to put food on the table or because they can’t handle going back into the job market to begin the job hunting process again.

Here are four ways to effectively deal with job dissatisfaction:

Establish the origin of your dissatisfaction

Undertake a retrospective assessment exercise of your job; try to find out the real cause of your dissatisfaction. Is it the fact that you have to wake up early to go to work? Is the fact that you finish work late? Is it the amount of your salary? Is it the fact that you have no time for yourself? Is it all these things and more? Reflect on it deeply and figure it out. It becomes easier to deal with when the source of your job dissatisfaction is identified.

Make an escape plan

Perhaps your current job leaves you dissatisfied, yet you cannot but remain in the job, don’t just give up and wallow in misery. Make a plan to help yourself out of the quagmire. It could be taking part-time classes to get a degree in another discipline or an advanced degree in your discipline. It could also be starting training, attending workshops or writing exams that qualify you for certificates or degrees that can make you eligible for other opportunities in line with what you desire to do. The idea is to broaden your horizon and not limit your options to your current job.

Polish your resume

If the pressure grows to become unbearable and staying in the job leads to increasing depression, start seeking opportunities that you can explore, polish your resume, muster the courage and quit the job.The job market might be an uncertain place but you are not going to find a better job if you don’t look for one.

It is important at this point not to rush the decision making process, to avoid settling for another unfulfilling job. Think long and hard if this is what you want to do. Have a plan and a back up to support you in case things don’t initially go your way. Use your connections and don’t give up until you succeed.

Be resilient

For those who cannot leave their jobs due to certain responsibilities; for those who, more or less, have no choice but to continue in their jobs, resilience would be needed. Be determined to find a way to make it work.

Once the source of your job dissatisfaction is identified, take steps to find solution to the issue(s). Look for people who can help you in solving these issues and approach them. The quality of help you can get within your network would surprise you. In case, the help does not come as wished, be resilient, build your paradigm about the job and find a way to make it work. At the end, you will actually find a way to successfully endure the job until there is a silver lining.

Jorge Mendes

SportsMeet "Jorge Mendes", The World's Most Powerful Football Agent by magazineguy(op): 9:00pm On Feb 09, 2017
Familiar with football stories?? Then the name Jorge Mendes certainly must ring a bell, not often the year round because he is neither a footballer nor a coach. His name is always associated with transfer deals, a period where he is most active. His record of brokering deals in unprecedented manners makes him the real deal. From Cristiano Ronaldo to Jose Mourinho to James Rodriquez and many other fantastic players, his client list is one to be envied by other agents. Not just having a good client list, Jorge Mendes takes full advantage of his valuables and that has seen him broker the best of best deals in European football history.

Jorge Paulo Agostinho Mendes born 7th of January, 1966 in Lisbon, Portugal became a super-agent by chance. Hoping to become a footballer, Jorge Mendes displayed for a couple of Portuguese clubs but he got rejected and instead he chose to work as a DJ and later went on to opening a bar and a night club in Portugal.

As fate would have it; Jorge met Nuno, a goalkeeper and started a conversation with him; a conversation that began his career as a football agent. He brokered his move successfully from Vitoria to Deportivo La’ Coruna and from then onward he got attracted to more Portuguese players seeking move to a better club.

Jorge Mendes’ mean attitude reflects in his method of striking deals. It’s on report he physically fought Luis Figo’s agent publicly at an airport in Lisbon. His reason for the attack being that the agent’s influence on Luis Figo against his own interest. He has been on the bad books of numerous associations whom alleges of his bad practices which involves third party ownership; one of his many methods in which he use to his advantage.

His super-agent abilities made him in 2009 seal a Euro record deal purchase of Ronaldo from Manchester United to Real Madrid for 80 million pounds which only has been beaten by Gareth Bale’s 85 million pounds.

In 2014, he brokered four out of the seven highest transfers in the world, a feat that made him earn 30 million pounds as reported. Wanting to expand his operation, in 2008 his company – Gestifute announced a partnership with Creative Artiste Agency in US to create global opportunities for current and future clients.

Like him or hate him for his guts, Jorge Mendes is amongst the best placed and most influential football agent in the world.

Business5 Places Where Freelancers Can Work Away From Home For Free by magazineguy(op): 1:28pm On Feb 09, 2017
Working from home is the dream for some employees and entrepreneurs as it’s often difficult to work away from home for free. While there are some great benefits to working from home, there are also some challenges. Just like going to the office every day can get old, so can working from home. Especially, since at home, there are so many more things to distract you, be it doing dishes or the laundry. Honestly, the closer I get to a deadline, the cleaner my apartment becomes. To focus, sometimes I just need to get out and work somewhere else for a while.

Freelancers and other self-employed entrepreneurs escaping their homes and flocking to coffee shops to do work is nothing new, the downside to going to coffee shops, co-working spaces, and many other regular freelancer hangouts is that they usually involve spending money. It may not be much, the cost of coffee, but if you are just starting out all the little expenses add up. Here are five places freelancers can work away from home for free.

1. Library

The most obvious choice is the library. Many local libraries will provide free internet access. You might also be able to reserve a room to work in to ensure other patrons will not disturb you. Libraries are also ideal for the resources they offer. The only downside might be the imposed silence. If you often work collaboratively and make lots of phone calls you may be better off with some of the other options below.

2. Museums

While some museums charge for entrance, there is usually at least one in every community that is free. As I write this, I’m sitting just outside the art museum entrance at a table with chairs and connected to the museum’s free internet. Inside is a coffee bar with a seating area. Since the museum is free and the seating area is large, I don’t feel obligated to buy a coffee to use the space. If there aren’t any free museums, look at your credit cards benefits. Some credit cards offer benefits like free access to museums.

3. Indoor/Outdoor Shopping Centers

Where it is a mall or an outdoor shopping center, there is almost always some seating areas with tables that you can work at; they are free to everyone. If you like to work surrounded by noise and bit a chaos, a food court could be your sanctuary. The idea is that the tables and chairs there are for patrons of the mall or shopping center. Because there are so many stores, there is no way you’ll be singled out or asked to leave if you do not buy anything.

4. Cafe

Depending on where you live, your community may offer a community center, cyber cafe (with free coffee), or pool house that you can go to, to do work. Instead of paying for coffee to work somewhere, you may be able to get free coffee working somewhere. There may even be a room or area that so long as it’s not rented out you can use. Where I live has an equivalent of a living room and kitchen area that is available for rent, but when not rented can be utilized by anyone. I pack a lunch as if going to the office and can settle in for the day.

5. Free Parking Lots

Parks will have benches, and many may also have picnic tables or when in doubt you can bring your blanket to sit on and do your work. Some parks have the internet available, even if your chosen park doesn’t, most smartphones can be used as a hotspot if you need internet access to do your work. Enjoy the outdoors without worrying if you are taking up too much space; it’s a park, there is plenty of space.

FamilyBest Ways To Deal With False Accusations Properly by magazineguy(op): 7:36pm On Feb 07, 2017
innocence.

Picture this: You live with this amazing person who is of the same sex as you are, and things happen to be going very well. You know, you all gist together, you get along just fine. Everything is going just well. Then one day, something happens.

He/she wakes you up and says they kept something (doesn’t have to be money) and now they can’t find it. You say that you didn’t take it, because of course, you have yours. Then they start to get angry and say you are taking them for a fool and you are just confused because, in your mind, you are thinking “I have mine, why would I want yours”. Long and short is you both stop talking. You actually didn’t do what you were accused of, but you are confused and don’t know what to do next.

It is false accusation basically, but what do you do. You are desperate to prove your innocence but you don’t just know how to.

False accusations can do a lot of damage to a person’s integrity especially when there is really no way to prove your innocence. A lot of people have been wrongly sentenced simply because they were at the wrong place at the wrong time. Sometimes, the truth comes out and other times, the truth never comes out. I happen to know two men who spent six years in Kirikiri maximum prison awaiting trial for a murder neither of them committed all because they were in the wrong place at a wrong time. In the end they were released, but guess what? A lot of damage had been done to their psyche and their lives. Six years had gone down the drain for something for which they were innocent. It is no news that our legal system is quite messy. So what can you do if you happen to be in that situation.

+Maintain your stance: “There is nothing that screams “liar” like changing testimonies. Maintaining your stance is the best thing you can do for yourself at this moment.

+Try to talk to the accuser and try to make them see reasons with you.

+If number 2 doesn’t work, try to keep your distance from them, because them wrongly accusing you means that they do not trust you and a relationship without trust “ko le werk”.

This said, it is also important for you as a person to always be conscious of yourself. You have to have a reason for being at a particular place at a particular time.

PoliticsThe Need For Youths To Participate In Politics Now by magazineguy(op): 10:14am On Feb 06, 2017
The outlook of politics in Nigeria gives an impression of an engagement for individuals who are advanced in age. Participation of youths appears to be restricted to the grassroots and platforms offered by the media, particularly the social media. For most youths, the idea of active participation in politics is a negative subject. It is widely believed that politics is a dirty game, and as such, it interests only few among the youths.

Consequently, there seem to be a growing gap between politics and young people in Nigeria. The need to fill this increasing void is urgent, considering the importance of youths to the future of the nation. It is important for youths, to be properly represented in the nation’s politics. By increasing their participation, they can ensure that their interests is protected.

However, the youths have not realised how they could reorganize the political system with their collective power. It is important to know that youths 35 years and under are estimated to constitute about 70% of the population of the country. This implies that immense youthful participation could determine election outcomes in the country. More so that the population advantage affords youths with the opportunity to make leadership choices for the nation.

Although the population advantage has been there for a while, its potency to bring about credible leadership for Nigeria has been eroded by a number of factors. One of these factors is the low voting rate. This can be attributed to the declining faith of citizens in democratic institutions in the country. Some citizens refuse to participate because they believe elections for instance, would be rigged anyway. It is important to encourage young people and other eligible citizens to exercise their democratic rights without bias or manipulation but rather with the motive to bring about credible leadership in Nigeria.

Also, youths should be encouraged to sought to raise their level of political education, through reading, dialetics, discussions etc. It is important to understand the socio-political happenings in the milieu. It is also crucial to spread correct information on these topics, especially to those without assess to these information. This is to help counter propaganda and political chicane that are usually been used as tools by aspirants in the past.

Conclusively, there are so many issues which affect youths in Nigeria, we are only putting ourselves at a great disadvantage by not voting, and an even greater disadvantage by not voting right. With rising long term youth unemployment, security threats, economic woes, it is now is the time to make our voices heard as youths. The answers to the problems of Nigeria could just be buried somewhere amongst us youths.

RomanceRe: Runs Babes: An Accepted Phenomenon In Nigeria by magazineguy(op): 11:11am On Feb 04, 2017
I get all your points but truth is they are quite relative. Let me give you an example, do you Ambassador Karo? He got married to an average girl, beautiful lady I must say. There are wealthy men who probably got engaged while in school to an average girl and later made money. The scenarios are quite much and differs.

2dugged:
before I ask my next question, I would like you to show me a once runs girl that ends up with an average guy,it's nearly impossible, and how many wealthy men are married to average women, the few ones with average wives probably did before the money, your point is flawed in a way, but the fact still remains that this kind of ladies roll in big circles
RomanceRe: Runs Babes: An Accepted Phenomenon In Nigeria by magazineguy(op): 11:06am On Feb 04, 2017
Hey pretty,

I wasn't blabbing, I only wrote based on reality check. I never condemn "runs babes" in any line.

2dugged:
my point exactly, even the op blabbing will go for this type of ladies when he amases some level of wealth, this category of ladies are what I call "sisters that look good on the front passenger's seat", don't mind the hypocrisy of the op,they come online to write trash, whereas they would only give lifts to this same category of ladies, they will only approach this category of ladies in a crowded place, and will even cheat on their average looking girlfriends and wives with this same kind of ladies, nonsense
RomanceRe: Runs Babes: An Accepted Phenomenon In Nigeria by magazineguy(op): 8:02am On Feb 04, 2017
why are all the ladies booking space?
RomanceRuns Babes: An Accepted Phenomenon In Nigeria by magazineguy(op): 7:54am On Feb 04, 2017
When did the word ‘Runs’ get on the map? Well nobody knows for sure, the only thing I know is that sleeping with married men got on my radar after I read about the ‘Lewinsky Scandal’. So I decided to write about a common phenomenon in my city Lagos, called ‘Runs’ aka ‘Parole’ aka ‘Professional Mistress’. This is supposed to be the easiest article in my short lived career, but it turned out to be the hardest because I did an in-depth research on this subject matter and I came up blank and unsatisfied with my results. So I watched some Nollywood movies and went through Nigerian Instagram. There is always a fight between ‘Runs girls’ on Instagram, they even openly insult themselves on social media with comments like; “Oh @SugarBabyCrankberryJuice everybody knows that it was Alhaji Hassan that bought that Range-rover for you. And the house in Lekki @HotBadGirlRiri told me you sleep with him when his wife is out of town”. I get to see comments like that all the time. This is not a joke. Take this seriously. So in my mind I envision Monica Lewinsky who is from a very affluent family in Southern California, a University graduate of Psychology.

Prior to her affair with Bill Clinton the President of the United States of America at the said time, she had an affair with another married man before she was linked with Bill Clinton. We can’t say if she was doing it for money, which is highly unlikely seeing as she has a trust fund and dined in Beverly Hills before she met the former President. After all that research on Monica Lewinsky’s background, I have come to a final conclusion. There are indeed different grades and types of these class of Ladies. With my little understanding and limited exposure I’ll like to explain what I mean.

The Professional Mistresses

These types of women are not interested in the financial gain, they are the type of women that are of a very different type of breed if I must say. These women are fully aware that the men they have their eyes on are married men, but because they are in love or are seeking a gain, like a merger of her multi million naira company with his multi billion naira company. Or a contract. They pay no mind to the relationship status of these men. In most cases these women are from affluent homes and have proper education. So in my opinion they are more expensive. She won’t ask you to buy her a Range-rover, you’ll buy her boats, priceless artifacts, take her to New York for the fashion week. She’s the type of woman that buys things off the runway.

Parole babe aka 1800 Choke that hoe

These are the sort of women you have your PA organize for you. Like take for instance, a successful businessman that is always on the move from one city to the next or one country to the next. These men get lonely and bored in their hotel rooms, so they need a lady for the night with a backpack. Backpack because, this said lady needs her supplies because she’s going to stay the whole weekend. Sometimes she might have to come with a friend or two depending on the man’s sexual preference.

She knows her place, she doesn’t care if you’re married to a woman or mermaid, her job is to please you for the weekend. And if she is ‘presentable’ she can act as an escort to events you have lined up for the weekend. She can’t be a non-drinker or smoker. For the length of time she is under your service, she has to entertain and amuse you to your satisfaction. If you ask her any questions, it is; ‘Yes I will’, ‘Yes I can’. These Ladies earn a decent fee, depends on the man’s financial buoyancy. They are not retainable, and they are not allowed to collect phone numbers of the men or contact information. After the weekend it is over and done with.

The Runs Babe aka #MissYouCantSeatWithUs

Most of us are very familiar with these classes of women, because they are everywhere! They are by your side, in your churches, in your favorite beauty parlor, on your coffee table right now. A runs babe is the type of woman that has sexual relations with a man (married, single, hermaphrodite, transgender) and collects money/perfumes/phones from him at the end of the said act. But this is the twist, she doesn’t just have one particular man that she does this with, she has various men in various geographical locations. A runs babe is in denial, because she hates being tagged as a runs babe, she wants to be called a professional mistress or a girlfriend. But she is not. These Ladies are comfortable with the most mundane things, like they are at their happiest when they buy expensive hairpieces, shop on Instagram boutiques, take photos in Intercontinental Hotel, have lunch at Radisson Blu, go to Palms to see a late night movie, trips to Dubai, get many likes on instagram, change DP’s constantly on their blackberry phones, gain twitter followers and wear WEDGE sneakers. Yes, they get call backs from their Aristos and the works. They are not expensive at all. At all.

This is not a diss article. I am simply writing on trending issues. I do this for the art and your entertainment. It is believed that a high percentage of these type of women live in Lekki phase 1. I don’t know how true this is, but with this extensive guidelines I’ve given, I think I have opened a can of worms in every household.

DISCLAIMER: This is not a diss article, or a tell all memoir. You can’t hold me responsible for the words and street slangs I used in this piece. I did it strictly for the art and your entertainment.

Jobs/Vacancies7 Productivity Tips To Help You Achieve Your Goals by magazineguy(op): 2:16pm On Feb 03, 2017
Achieving one’s target as an entrepreneur is self-fulfilling and most serious entrepreneurs are ever ready to learn and adjust especially if it has to do with activities relating to helping them achieve their goals.

Listed are a few tips that help an entrepreneur easily achieve their biggest set goals:

1. Write everything down.

Don’t hold on to every plan, thought or feeling in your brain. You will get stressed out just trying to remember everything.

“What makes people feel anxious and unproductive is that loop; you can have hundreds of those going on at once and it can be completely distracting.”

Simply writing down what you want to accomplish will free up space to focus on what is most important.

2. Make a plan.

“It is never wasted time. You’re actually making the rest of your day productive by spending 30 minutes reviewing your to-do’s, prioritizing them and ruthlessly removing things that shouldn’t be there.”

Structuring your to-do list with actionable items — only those things that start with a verb. If it takes only a few minutes to do, just do the task right away. Create lists around a single theme or intention.

3. Put social media away.

“Actually remove those tabs from your computer and phone”. Turn off notifications so you don’t feel the urge to check your social media accounts and lose your concentration and momentum. Uninterrupted work time is key.

In a survey conducted by Levo and Microsoft, Ghosn noted that respondents identified social media as the number one distraction.

4. Block off your calendar.

Dividing your day into several sections — for example, one dedicated to catching up on correspondence and meetings, another to plan out your to-do list and a third to execute on those tasks.

“They all require very different mindsets and they should be separated as such.”

5. Find out when you are most productive.

“I used to think I was a night owl,” Ghosn says. “I realized I’m not because I have energy at night but I’m not as focused and productive when I try to get things done.”

Figure out where and when you are most engaged and excited to work and use those times to tackle the most important items on your list.

In the survey, 38 percent of those polled reported that the mid-morning was their most productive time period, followed by the early morning. Only 1 percent said that their mind was the sharpest during the lunch hour.

6. Remember that it is OK to fumble.

“When you experience difficulty at work or in your life, instead of looking back on it as something that was really challenging, look at it and ask yourself, ‘what wisdom did I learn from that?'” Ghosn says. “It’s approaching it with gratitude vs. bitterness or negativity, and it allows you to be better.”

You can learn from every mistake and use it to motivate you rather than blame yourself or give up something that is important to you.

7. Check in with yourself.

Doing a weekly review and checking off what you achieved and giving yourself credit for even the most incremental wins.

“Take the time to close the loop with your brain and affirm that you did a great job.”

CelebritiesRe: The Top 5 Best Lyricists Nigeria Has Produced So Far by magazineguy(op): 4:28pm On Jan 31, 2017
Funny you. Lyricists are intelligent rappers who can twist words, too bad Ice and Vic O are not in anyway close to that.

nepapole:
How about vic-o...that guy is really guud from behind. Ice prince too.
CelebritiesThe Top 5 Best Lyricists Nigeria Has Produced So Far by magazineguy(op): 4:08pm On Jan 31, 2017
In as much as the Nigerian music industry is getting the attention of music lovers outside the country for afro-pop music, rap music in Nigeria is doing just as well. The field of rap music in Nigeria has a growing wealth of players. These rappers/lyricists have managed to entertain the mass of rap music fans over the years. The rap community in Nigeria can be said to enjoy a healthy competition. The competition amongst these rappers is basically centered on accolades, wealth and commercial success. But the gain for rap fans is the plethora of options and quality of art that this competition has produced.

In the midst of the switch and twitch to meet the high demands of the industry, some Nigerian rappers have been able to keep alive the Hip-hop spirit, serving amazing lyrics and injecting the poetic effect into their music. They have released to the rap community some rich body of work and have comfortably displayed the art of lyricism.

Here is a list of top lyricists in Nigeria:

Mode 9: The rap gaffe has been in the business since 2004. He has 8 albums and 5 mixtapes to his credit. He has won 9 headies award and 7 of them for lyricist on the roll. Once could be sheer luck, twice could be okay or he is good but seven times, with six of them back-to-back, it goes to show how consistent Modo is with lyricism. The awards and albums makes a statement to establish the fact that Mode 9 is a rap powerhouse. Modo indeed understands HipHop. It is hard to catch him doing any other music style. Mode 9 is arguably the best lyricist around. He remains a relevant hip-hop character in the music industry as he released a featured album, Look what I found in 2016.

M.I: If you followed M.I from the days of Crowd Mentality, you’d agree that the journey has been creatively entertaining, producing three studio albums, one compilation album and three mixtape albums. His lyrical depth and artistic creativity has built him a reputation of an A-grade lyricist. He is credited with the release of some of the best rap albums ever seen in the Nigerian music space. He occupies a vanguard position of the Rap movement in the Nigerian music industry.

Vector: Probably the most celebrated lyricist in the industry at the moment. Vector is a word-smith and a willing freestyler. He is an amazing one in fact. He is never starved of words, his proficiency with words allows him play creatively with them. It is important to mention that he ended the lyricist of the roll streak of Mode 9.

Jesse Jagz: The art of lyricism runs in the blood. Jesse Jagz, M.I’s brother is another top Nigerian lyricist. Often said to be propped by his more successful brother, Jesse Jagz however cleared doubts on the independence of his talent and creative forte when he won the lyricist on the roll award at the 2014 Headies, even after leaving Chocolate City to establish Jagz Nation. Although re-signing with Choc City, the spell of independence for him, is a bold critic silencing move. The self-professed title of rapper extraordinaire describes Jesse Jagz. He is one of the best freestylers around.

Boogey: He is a rapper with a growing reputation. He was nominated in two rap categories of the 2016 Headies Award, including the lyricist on the roll category. His lyrical credential continues to build up in a steady pace with his increasing musical releases. It is believed he had the best verse in the Illegal Music 2 album. His lyrical creativeness and flow fluidity qualifies him for top lyricist on any list in the country. He holds huge promise for the Hip-hop culture in Nigeria.

CelebritiesUnderstanding Recording Deals As An Artiste by magazineguy(op): 6:09pm On Jan 30, 2017
It is the dream of upcoming artistes to rise to become musical superstars. That is what makes them upcoming, in other words future stars. For most, part of the dream involves getting a record deal. It is widely believed that record deals can change the fortune artistes. There are evidences to this lore on both the local and international scene. J.Cole signing to Roc Nation, Drake signing to Young Money, Wizkid signing to Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) and whether we agree or argue, the Chocolate City deal gave Brymo the stage upon which he shone.

Although it is true that good record deals are the springboard of career success, a bad one puts an unsuspecting artiste in a mouse in the trap situation. It would most likely drain the artiste of gains. Record deals work in fact like a vehicle that drives one to an intended destination. A bad vehicle almost always breaks down on the way. For artistes, this is when there is a mess. A mess that usually leads to blame game; claims of career stagnation and extortion by the artiste or claims of unprofitability by the record label.

In most cases of unprofitability of the artiste, it rarely causes a media fracas, as it usually ends with a mutual termination of contract or refusal of the record label to offer a contract renewal option to the artiste. However, it is the cases of career stagnation and extortion that whirls the media, as was the case of Jaywon with Kennis music and MayD with Square records. Another possible cause of artiste dissatisfaction with a binding recording contract is the feeling of under-appreciation and disrespect as in the case of Harrysong with 5 Star music.

Cases of recording deals gone bad is usually difficult for both parties involved but especially for the signee. Artistes that go down this road have troubles making it back to the spotlight. This is why artistes, especially those aspiring to get signed must understand that not all record deals are divine. Albeit top record labels can quickly turn an upcoming artiste to a household name, it usually comes at a cost. Sometimes too expensive a cost.

Therefore, it is only wise for musical talents to read through and understand the contract lines before putting pen to paper. For upcoming artiste that are in hot demand by many labels you can get a smart lawyer to get you a much better deal because you are hot property and can call the tune. However only few have that luxury.

Most upcoming artistes would rather queue for the major labels, not seeing the blessing in signing for independent label. With indie labels, upcoming artistes would find it easier to get a favourable advance, although it may take longer to become a household name. Many indie labels would cut a balanced split of the profits. So artistes also have some say in what is being spent. For an artiste that takes this option to become successful, you can often earn more than you would have through a major label.

Moreso, Independent labels often have fewer artistes, so their focus on the career of their asset tends to be less divided. My advice for upcoming artistes seeking a record deal is to get an indie label with good structure, good understanding of the industry, promising future, one that places a favourable offer on the table and sign.

It is also wise to consider the option of pursuing a career as an independent artiste, as it appears less bureaucratic. However, to be successful at it, one would need a bag of finance, good management team and the basic element for musical career success which is, quality songs. It is also necessary to understand the dynamics of the industry, as this is useful for resource effectiveness.

In the music industry today, it is not just enough to make good music, it is important to build a brand. A good artiste is a brand in demand, that is what makes it an industry. It is part of becoming a successful artiste to understand this modus operandi and sought the best way to supply the demand of the market.

When you are with your friends, you are more relaxed and not mindful of the words you use hence your ability to communicate effectively with them, while in front of a crowd you tend to be nervous which is totally normal. I suggest you try gesticulating when speaking or try keeping eye contact with a couple of persons in the audience. Always practice also indoors [if you are making a presentation or pitch].

Jobs/Vacancies5 Skills Every Young Graduate Must Have by magazineguy(op): 8:11am On Jan 30, 2017
So you are fresh out of University and you are looking to land that dream job or you are about starting a business. We all know that there are a lot of young people out there who need jobs, i.e. the job market is saturated and so just in case you land that dream job of yours, you need to keep it and when you start your business, you need it to boom. So what are the skills you should not leave the university without as a graduate.

Communication skills: You need to be able to communicate and relate well with others in your organization. In as much as you do not want to be seen as a rude and unrelatable in the organization, you also want to be assertive so that you can stand your ground when need be. Also, if you are starting your business, you want to be able to communicate well with your clients as that would ensure that they come back.

A good appraisal of the legal system: This is very important, especially in Nigeria where we live. We have seen situations where the government just comes and closes down business spaces or worse-off demolishes them. A great example is 52 Rumens Road, Ikoyi. You don’t have to be a law expert, but just enough to understand the government of your day.

IT Knowledge: IT knowledge is very important now as most jobs require basic computer skills and even then, basic is slowly getting “old”. Nowadays, you have to be well equipped in this area, as every day, new innovations keep popping up. Technology is constantly on the move so you need to improve your IT skills daily!

Industry Knowledge: You should know the nitty-gritty of the industry of the company in which you work, even at your business, you should have enough knowledge to avoid surprises. The more you know about the company you work in, the more you will be able to excel at your job.

Project Management: As a young graduate, you are expected to have participated in capacities in which you managed different projects while you were in school. Therefore, you should be able to effectively manage projects and/or problems that may arise in the course of your job. You should be able to think outside the box, set goals, and work with team members on different project.

Literature5 Books You Should Read That Will Change Your Life by magazineguy(op): 2:19pm On Jan 24, 2017
If you only read the books everyone is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking. – Haruki Murakami

Reading is important to me. It’s how I spend most of my days. It’s also the source of knowledge, which is why I read well over 100 books a year. Reading alone, however, isn’t enough. What you read matters.

Most of us read the wrong things. As Haruki Murakami put it, reading what everyone else reads means you’re probably going to think what everyone else thinks. All those books from high-school? Everyone else has read them too. The best-sellers? Same.

That’s not to say these books aren’t valuable. They are. They’re just not going to help you get unique insights, see problems in a different way than others, or even help you solve more problems. They will however make you sound like you’re smart because you can talk about the things everyone else is talking about. However, there is an old adage that when you do what everyone else is doing you shouldn’t be surprised to get the same results everyone else gets.

While thinking the thoughts that other people have is enough to get a seat at the table, it’s not enough to win the game.

To win you need to see things that other people can’t see. You need to connect things that other people can’t connect.

Reading can help you develop insights, connections, and understanding that baffles others. To do this, you can’t, however, follow in the same footsteps as everyone else because that leads you down the same path.

With that in mind, here are five books that you’ve probably never heard of . (and one you have) that will change your life and enable you to see the world in a new light.

Collected Maxims and Other Reflections by La Rochefoucauld
La Rochefoucauld’s critical and pithy analysis of human behavior won’t soon be forgotten. A list of people influenced by his maxims include Nietzsche, Voltaire, Proust, de Gaulle, and Conan Doyle. “The reader’s best policy,” Rochefoucauld suggests, “is to assume that none of these maxims is directed at him, and that he is the sole exception. …. After that, I guarantee that he will be the first to subscribe to them.”

The 48 Laws of Power, by Robert Greene
I’ve never read this book in a cover-to-cover sense but I’ve read each of the laws. More than that, I’ve broken each of the laws. I’ll give you an example. The first law is “Never outshine the master.” Once I worked directly for a CEO. I worked as hard as I ever have to show off my talents and skills and at every turn it backfired over and over again. The lesson — “make your masters appear more brilliant than they are and you will attain the heights of power.” I wish I read this book earlier in my career, it certainly would have been helpful.

Xenophon’s Cyrus the Great: The Arts of Leadership and War by Xenophon
This book sat on my shelf for a year before I picked it up recently. This is the biography of Cyrus the Great, also known as Cyrus the Elder, who made the oldest known declaration of human rights. The book is full of leadership lessons. Here’s an example. “Brevity is the soul of command. Too much talking suggests desperation on the part of the leader. Speak shortly, decisively and to the point–and couch your desires in such natural logic that no one can raise objections. Then move on.”

Letters from a Self-Made Merchant to His Son
This no nonsense collection of 20 letters from a self-made man to his son are nothing short of brilliant as far as I’m concerned. This is a great example of timeless wisdom. The broad theme is how to raise your children in a world where they have plenty but the lessons apply to parents and non-parents alike.

Models of my Life by Herbert Simon
An autobiography of Nobel laureate Herbert A. Simon, a remarkable polymath who more people should know about. In an age of increasing specializing, he’s a rare generalist — applying what he learned as a scientist to other aspects of his life. Crossing disciplines, he was at the intersection of “information sciences.” He won the Nobel for his theory of “bounded rationality,” and is perhaps best known for his insightful quote “A wealth of information creates a poverty of attention.”

And one more… just for good luck but you’ve probably heard of this one.

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
Ok, this is a bonus pick as I figured a many of you might have read this already. However, the translation matters. Get this one. The best way to sum up this book is: A simple and powerful guide to life. This book was never intended for publication it was for himself. How many people write a book of epigrams to themselves during a war? Get it. Read it. Live it.

Iduze took his drawing hobby as an extra curricular activity, doing pencil works, but he’s gradually drifting to the Digital Arts of recent since he got his Autodesk Sketchbook software. in his words: “I’m kinda still in my brainstorm mode where I’m thinking of mind-blowing artworks to create….. And of course expensive, you know like that Blue Canvas with a white vertical line that went viral . Literature"Took A Life" - A Flash Fiction By Blessing Iyamadiken by magazineguy(op): 5:00pm On Jan 22, 2017
I dreamt of the crows again. Those black messengers of death, circling me, swarming me. Their caw blocking out all other sounds, strangling even the voice of hope that lay in my heart. I dreamt of the crows again and this time it was more than a dream, my love. It was a message, a premonition. It would be over soon, you say, you’’ll be set free. But I do not believe that.

There was a time when we were all we could be, our love could seemingly move mountains, my wealth could buy you a palace, so big and majestic it would draw the envy of even kings, but that was then, now neither our love nor all of my wealth can help us.

A life I have taken, a life that was never mine to take, all because of your honor, our honor, and now I fear for my life, our lives, our love. I am a man of only physical strength, never have I been as strong as you are, my love, it amazes me, how you can still put up a smile amidst the pain. When all I can think of is the shame you would have had to face if he had had his way, if I had not taken his life, that beast of man. I took a life….I did it for you, I should be proud, but all I feel is emptiness.

I protected your honor, from him, but it should have been through another means, not with savage hands. At the end, I shall lose you, my moon and my stars, the petals of our love shall wither off, I know it, for what business do the condemned have with the free. It shouldn’t be this way, but society won’t let it.

Programming16 Interesting Secrets About Mark Zuckerberg by magazineguy(op): 5:32pm On Jan 19, 2017
http://tushmagazine.com.ng/16-interesting-facts-mark-zuckerberg/

Mark Zuckerberg is one of the most recognizable CEOs in the world, and what he has achieved at 32 years old is pretty staggering.

Even though more than a billion users flock to Facebook every month and he has donated billions of dollars to medical research through the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, it’s important to remember that he’s still a human being with weird quirks, just like everyone else. Read on for some unexpected facts about the Facebook founder.

1. He nearly worked for Microsoft.
When he was a senior in high school he co-created an app called Synapse Media Player, an MP3 player that kept track of the user’s favorite songs and made playlists based on their choices, essentially an early Spotify or Pandora.

Microsoft sought to acquire the company and its founders, but instead of working for the Seattle tech giant, Zuckerberg and co-creator Adam D’Angelo — who went on to found Quora — got a patent for the tech and went to college instead.

2. He was inventing in middle school.
When Zuckerberg was 12, he created an instant messaging program that he called ZuckNet so his dentist father could know when patients arrived.

3. He has unexpected pop culture tastes.
One of his favorite books is The Aeneid, and one of his favorite TV shows is The West Wing, which was created by Aaron Sorkin, the man who also wrote the movie based on the creation of Facebook, The Social Network.

4. He’s known for being frugal.
Even though today he has a beautifully appointed home that is powered by an AI butler with Morgan Freeman’s voice, in an interview with The New Yorker in 2010, he said that he found all of his apartments on Craigslist.

5. His eyesight is the reason behind Facebook’s color scheme.
Facebook’s logo is blue because Zuckerberg has red-green color blindness.

6. He wasn’t always a high-level coder.
He first learned to code from a C++ for Dummies book.

7. He’s multilingual.
He’s always been interested in ancient languages such as Latin, and he can speak Mandarin.

8. He turned down many offers to sell Facebook.
Many big name companies wanted to see if he wanted to sell — NewsCorp, MySpace, Viacom, Yahoo, NBC, Microsoft (again) and Google all put their hats in the ring — but Zuckerberg held firm.

9. He and his wife’s first meeting was a little inauspicious.
While Zuckerberg and his wife Dr. Priscilla Chan are now parents and major philanthropists, they met for the first time in line for the bathroom at a fraternity party at Harvard.

10. He’s an admirer of Steve Jobs.
The late Apple founder’s bold leadership style apparently inspired the message he put on his first business cards: “I’m CEO, bitch.”

11. He’s on Twitter.
But he’s unsurprisingly not very active on it. He’s tweeted 19 times since 2009.

12. He can laugh at himself.
Zuckerberg is known for being somewhat awkward, but he wrote an appreciative post about Andy Samberg’s impersonation of him on Saturday Night Live.

13. He’s a fitness buff.
For 2016, Zuckerberg set a goal to run 365 miles during the course of the year. He met his goal midway through the summer.

14. He looks up to Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso.
He has Einstein’s quote, “Make things as simple as possible but no simpler,” and Picasso’s insight that, “All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once you grow up,” as his favorites on Facebook.

15. His dog is a celebrity too
Beast, Zuckerberg’s Hungarian sheepdog, has his own Facebook fan page that has more than 2 million likes. His daughter’s a fan too — he posted that Max’s first word was dog.

16. A dozen people held him manage his Facebook page.
Zuckerberg reportedly has a team of 12 people that tend to his Facebook account to monitor the comments, write his posts and take the photographs that end up on his page.

Health15 Simple Ways To Overcome Depression by magazineguy(op): 6:46pm On Jan 17, 2017
http://tushmagazine.com.ng/simple-ways-overcome-depression/

Depression can be debilitating and is very different from just feeling unhappy. Usually, there is a reason for unhappiness such as being rejected or not getting the job you wanted. Depression is a pervasive feeling. It’s almost as if you are in a black tunnel with no light. Hope disappears and the things you used to find enjoyable become a chore. Even winning the lottery would not snap someone out of depression and it is never a good idea to tell someone who is depressed to sort themselves out and pull themselves together. Unfortunately, it isn’t that simple, but there are ways to alleviate the symptoms of depression.

1. Practice Mindfulness

A depressed mind tends to mull over all that is wrong and worries unnecessarily about all the negative possibilities that may emerge in the future. This negative thought cycle reinforces misery and is not helpful in managing to overcome depression. Mindfulness involves focusing on the present moment and is a skill that needs to be practiced. More often than not, our brains are full of thoughts and focusing on the present moment seems unnatural for our minds. Practice on engaging your senses in the moment. Focus on touch, taste, sight, sound and smell. Engaging the senses leaves less time for worry.

2. Listen to Upbeat Music

I have always thought of music as food for the soul. An upbeat tune can change an atmosphere instantly and create a more positive vibe. Listening to upbeat, happy music alters brain chemistry and can improve your mood.

3. Use Touch

Science shows that touch therapies can help some people overcome depression, lower the stress hormone cortisol and increase the feel-good hormone oxytocin. Therapies to consider include acupuncture, acupressure, massage, reiki and reflexology.

4. Include Omega 3 Fatty Acids in Your Diet

Research has shown that depressed people often lack a fatty acid known as EPA. Participants in a 2002 study featured in the Archives of General Psychiatry took just a gram of fish oil each day and noticed a 50-percent decrease in symptoms such as anxiety, sleep disorders, unexplained feelings of sadness, suicidal thoughts, and decreased sex drive. Omega-3 fatty acids can also lower cholesterol and improve cardiovascular health. Get omega-3s through walnuts, flaxseed and oily fish like salmon or tuna.

5. Stop the Negative Self Talk

Depressed people tend to see the world in a negative way. When things go wrong they blame themselves and when they go right, they put it down to luck. Depression reinforces self doubt and feelings of worthlessness. Monitor your inner negative talk and make allowances for this type of thinking by reminding yourself that your thinking is that of a depressed person, not a healthy functioning person. Don’t take your thoughts seriously when you are feeling low. Acknowledge the thoughts but this doesn’t mean you have to believe them. Keep perspective.

6. Bide Your Time

Accept that your mental state is not entirely balanced. During depression, we tend to see the negatives in everything and find it harder to be balanced about what is going on. Gently remind yourself that you are tuned into the ‘negativity channel’ and don’t listen to your thinking. It is definitely distorted when you are depressed. This idea alone can provide some comfort when the world appears bleak. It won’t last forever. Remind yourself that change is constant and that you won’t always feel this way. Be patient and do your best to look after yourself in the meantime. Eat well and get a decent amount of sleep. Say to yourself “This shall pass”.

7. Distract Yourself

If possible, do your best to distract yourself from over thinking. Your thoughts are your enemy when depression sets in. Play with a pet or go for a walk. Read a book if you are able to concentrate or finish a puzzle. Do anything that takes your mind off your fears and worries. Keeping busy is an effective way to overcome depression.

8. Use More Light

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is known for causing low mood over the winter months when there is less sunlight. Invest in a sunlamp – a 300 watt bulb within three feet for 20 minutes three times a day can help. SAD symptoms can include problems sleeping, anxiety, depression, irritability, fatigue, apathy and loss of libido and using light can help to overcome depression and these other symptoms.

9. Try Cognitive Therapy

Cognitive therapy can be extremely useful in counteracting depression and is based on the principle that certain ways of thinking can trigger certain health problems, such as depression. The counselor helps you to understand your current thought patterns and identify any harmful or false ideas and thoughts that you have that can trigger depression or make it worse. The aim is to change your ways of thinking to avoid these ideas as well as help your thought patterns to be more realistic and helpful.

10. Write in a Journal

A journal can work in two ways. Use it to write down fears and worries. Sometimes, having an outlet in this way can be soothing and ease your mind. Another good way to use a journal (I prefer this way) is to write at least five things down every day that you are grateful for. This forces us to think more positively and can help to remind us that things are never that bad. In a gratitude journal, you can write about anything that happened in the day that made you feel appreciative. A stranger smiling at you, the sun shining..anything positive will do!

11. Connect with Friends

This can be one of the hardest things to do when feeling depressed but it is one of the most rewarding activities. Force yourself to go out. Isolating oneself from others may seem a good idea but put a limit on it and then get out there again. This can have a huge positive effect on your mood.

12. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep and mood are closely connected. Inadequate sleep can cause irritability and stress, while healthy sleep can enhance well-being. Studies have shown that even partial sleep deprivation has a significant effect on mood.Take steps to ensure adequate sleep will this will lead to improved mood and well-being. The quality of your sleep directly affects the quality of your waking life, including your mental sharpness, productivity, emotional balance, creativity, physical vitality, and even your weight. No other activity delivers so many benefits with so little effort so aim for between 7.5 and 9 hours sleep per night.

13. Forgive Others

When we hold a grudge, we are the ones that feel the anger. The person whom we are angry with is probably merrily going about their business completely oblivious to your feelings. Don’t allow others to have this power over you. They have may have caused you grief in the past, try not to allow that grief to continue – it only affects you, not them. Find a way to forgive – they are not worthy of your time. Lighten the emotional load and you will improve your mood and help you to overcome depression.

14. Exercise

Regular exercise has benefits for helping to overcome depression. Exercise releases endorphins which improve natural immunity and improve mood. Besides lifting your mood, regular exercise offers other health benefits, such as lowering blood pressure, protecting against heart disease, cancer and boosting self-esteem. Experts advise getting half an hour to an hour of moderate exercise, such as brisk walking at least three to four times per week.

15. Don’t give up

Depression can make you want to hide away from the world and disappear. It’s okay to take some time out but give yourself a time limit and then do something productive to improve your mood. Depression can be well managed (I know this from personal experience) and there can be a wonderful life beyond depression. Hang in there and keep the faith.

Although the above suggestions can be effective, depression that perseveres should be investigated further and seeing a Doctor to chat over any symptoms is a step in the right direction.

FamilyHow Much Is Enough To Buy The Importance Of Family by magazineguy(op): 9:47am On Jan 16, 2017
Today, I learnt a very important lesson but before I go into this lesson that I learnt, let me ask: When was the last time you checked on your parents, your guardians, and your family in general etc. I ask this because it is prevalent now for young people to forget that they were brought into this world by people. The hustle for money has gotten the better of us that we really do not care about these people anymore.

Our parents crave our attention, they spent the most productive part of their lives trying their best to take care of us and give us the best they could. And now that we are all grown up, the best we can do for them is spend time with them, make them feel loved, make them feel like they are an actual part of us and not a burden.

You may want to say that you give money, but remember that money is not care, money is not attention, money is not love in fact money means nothing in this situation. Family is everything, they may get on your nerves most times, you may not like them every day, but remember that when things are down, when the whole world has abandoned you, your family wouldn’t. Family would stand by you even in the worst of times. I feel like the family is the greatest institution on earth.

No matter how much hustle you do, if tomorrow, God calls you, you definitely know you won’t be taking your riches with you. What then would people say about you? Would they say you were always all about the hustle so much so that you forgot those around you? Or would they instead talk about how caring and compassionate you were, never wanting your family and friends suffer any hurt? Would they talk about how they had to always beg for your time or would they rather talk about how much you enjoyed their company and how you always looked forward to seeing them?

Money is not everything and if you lose your family today, trust me, you would wish you spent more time with them. Saying always that you hardly go home, or you careless about family is not normal and you need to find out why this problem exists and change for the better.

Money isn’t everything, Family is!!!
