Nigeria's first car maker takes to the skies in fighter jets

(CNN)The grinding conflict between the Nigerian state and Boko Haram insurgents has exacted a devastating human and economic toll over the past six years.

But for Nigeria's first car manufacturer, the crisis may represent an opportunity.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) recently announced a partnership deal with Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM), which will see the company supply spare parts for jets conducting airstrikes against the insurgents.
"The ingenious effort by IVM is instrumental to the continued operation of the Alpha Jets," NAF spokesperson Ayodele Famuyiwa said of the deal. "IVM helped to save the day when help was not forthcoming from abroad."

Friends in high places

The air force reached out to Innoson in 2015, as it faced increasing difficulty with the import of vital parts such as brake pads. The deal was struck after a series of site visits around the country.
"The army came to our factories in many states," says Innoson spokesperson Cornel Osigwe. "They saw we had the capacity."

IVM, part of the Innoson Group owned by billionaire Innocent Chukwuma, started producing commercial vehicles such as coaches in 2007, before launching a range of private cars in 2014 -- the first to carry a "Made in Nigeria" seal.
The offshoot company now employs over 7,000 people and has capacity to produce 10,000 cars a year. It is hoped that the partnership with NAF could help the business expand further.

"The attention is providing a big boost for the company," says Osigwe.
Innoson has gained several new clients since the deal, according to the spokesperson, including the National Assembly. Leading politicians such as Senator Ben Murray-Bruce have offered strong support.

Osigwe hopes that high profile supporters will help the company make inroads with the wider public.
"If the government patronize Innoson, individuals and companies will follow," he says.

Home advantage

As Nigeria continues to suffer from falling oil revenues that are devaluing its currency, the Naira, the government is making efforts to build up the domestic manufacturing sector and reduce dependency on imports.
The government-promoted Twitter campaign #BuyNaijaToGrowTheNaira has been enthusiastically adopted by the public, trending on several occasions over the past month.

Innoson has featured prominently in the campaign, with indications that the company is gaining recognition.
A recent poll from news site YNaija showed that 60% of respondents would choose the Nigerian-made cars.
IVM is now seeking to capitalize on the current momentum. The company is planning to increase its manufacturing capacity from 10,000 to 50,000 vehicles per year, including of new, lower cost cars to reach a broader market.
Collaboration with the NAF will also expand for research and supply. As patriotism grows across Nigeria, this could prove a crucial selling point.

Even the so called free education is not totally free but somewhere in the north they are paying parents to send their daughters to school. What a country we live in

That is equity and justice.
I totally support the move despite the fact i am not from the North.
Female education and education in general has been neglected in the North.
With this initiative we would have better educated future mothers who would in turn raise well educated children. Hopefully, it will put an end to the systemic insecurity waves in the north and raise more liberal individual.

This is the kinda of things that happen when you place children in the hands of those that are not even able to even feed themselves properly.
They end up meting out their frustration on the poor kids.

I always recommend that people put a hold on procreating till they are financially capable of raising the children without frustration.
You rarely hear of such severe abuses going on in the middle class or rich families.

You might not know that most of these so called private schools hire people who aren't even skilled in educating a child, all they think about is money, that's why they make a mess of a kids life.

I'll have you know that teachers, don't just teach kids, they instill discipline, guide, tutor and mentor kids, teachers act as in loco parentis to kids, so that the kids, will be not just good to their families, but to the society at large, because a damaged kid is not only a danger to himself/herself, but to the society at large.

You have no idea the amount of bribes these private schools pay to ministry of education inspectors, just to stay in business. Some of them aren't even registered.

Once again, everybody is at fault here. The teachers went overboard, so did the head girl, and the girl that was slapped. The parents who even posted this news, failed to even tell us what their daughter did, that made the head girl slap her. They omitted a very vital information. I want to know what spurred those teachers to beat that girl like that.

If you read my post, i didn't say it happens only in public schools or private schools.
I said it only happens in ghetto schools.
do you think this kinda rubbish would happen in top private schools located in VGC, Ikeja or Lekki, this wouldn't even happen.

In summary, i work hard so my kids wouldn't go to kwashiorkor schools.

Which price? What will you do! If your daughter can raise her hand slap her senior prefect, then she can raise her hand and slap you her father, and it means you have failed as a parent!.

I still maintain that regardless of what the girl does, no head prefect or whatever has the right to physically assault her.
The duty of the prefect is to watch and report to teachers when fellow students become unruly or act in an unethical manner.
The marks on her body is not discipline. Its an assault.

So, i can proudly say that none of my children will ever be in this type of situation but if per chance, they find themselves in a situation where they have to stand up and defend themselves, then i would give them a medal if they cave in the face of their tormentor and mop the floor with their blood.

A little child is abusing the little position of a prefect. What would happen if s/he joins the military or becomes a "leader"?
A prefect has no right to punish a student. The duty of a prefect is to report to the teachers what they see and hear.

There is no justification for this nonsense and if this girl was my remotely related to me, i can grantee you that those teachers will pay full price.
If i don't get the teachers, i will have my guys get their children.

Jude is heir manager. As a manger you should know that he can be fired, dismissed, suspended and replaced. 40% is way too much for Jude alone. If Jude and Paul are used to conniving against their Peter, your suggestion would made it worse.

Tiwa savage and Teebliz cannot be blacklisted. Whatever Teebliz said was no secret. Peter knew beforehand and he did Peter a favour if he didn't know. It would have given him an insight to why grievances are taken for granted. Why don't you tell Peter to stay away from a brother that could badmouth him to a non-family member.

Royalties are in his name, he co-owns publishing rights and catalogs, his creative inputs (video production and audio) was also used at a lot.

These are some of the grievances i was able to pick up.
Now, how do we address it?

1- There album should become 50percent peter and 50percent paul with no credit to individual works.
1b- Promotion of music should be 30 percent peter and 30 percent paul. Jude has the veto power over the remaining 40 percent.
2- Decision making should be on quota basis unless in an emergency situation. Jude should have the veto power of 40 percent of decisions, while peter and paul share 60%
3- Peter should be allowed to have his own manager which he will pay out of his own pocket.
3b- The company should hire a road manager which will handle all their tours professionally.
4- Well, this is family business and jude is not only a manager, he is also a partner with creative inputs, licensing and publishing rights. i feel the sharing structure should remain perfectly equal except in cases where one of the twin brothers perform individually.

I have managed some some successful l brands in Nigeria and i have realized that sometimes, issues come up and if it is not addressed as soon as it arises, it leads to negative sentiments which will harm the business.

The issue with P-square has gone beyond professional inconveniences. There is a lot of negative personal sentiments and this has made the issue even more complicated.
The professional work flow can be resolved but i am not sure about the personal life.

Finally, people like Teebillz and tiwa savage and their whole crew should be black-listed by the management of p-square
