Politics / Re: How Subsidy Went From N300b To N1.3 Trillion: Has Anyone In Govt Explained? by Maisuya1: 10:52pm On Jan 11, 2012
Trust NLers they will explain what the experts have tactically dodged. Some silly factors were presented by some posters. My question is this.
Has the number of cars doubled or just increased within the few months in question?
Has the exchange rate differential declined by a factor of two or just marginally deteorate?
Has the number of nigerians doubled in the few months or just marginally increased?
Has there been a 100% change in crude price of crude in any direction since GEJ compared to previous admins?

If non of the above happened to double in the FEW MONTHS in question, WHY HAS THE SUBSIDY MONEY MORE THAN QUADRUPLE IN THOSE FEW MONTHS?
Politics / Re: Mob Rampages, Kill Police Officer In Minna by Maisuya1: 7:00pm On Jan 11, 2012
Really it's bad, how can pple go out destroying public properties meant to benefit them, they burnt down the street screens put up by the state govt just like the ones in Abuja, at times those screens show live premier league matches and you can park in your car from a distance and just watch just like an outdoor cinema. This act is criminal and I condemn it

I believe pple are taking these BH stuff too far, it's nothing but a loose confederate of criminals from all part of the country. Becoz the educated guys are not into this shite, so if it's the illiterate ones how come they've sundenly gone high-tech, and media savvy with contacts of major news outlet and even YouTube accounts.

Well I hope they soon set up a Facebook account too. This is nothing but the failure of govt to protect it's citizens, govt says it noes them, they are in govt but it can't name them or fish them out. Classic PDP excuse. We know the cabals but we can't touch them.

Either you are very funny or you talk before you think. You compared the UK to Nigeria by arguing that the UK pays benefits while Nigeria doesnt. When I challenged you on it with facts, you turned around to say we should not compare Nigeria to UK. Do i take it take your initial post where you compared the two wav posted in error?
By the way, the UK has significant oil reserves

Don't get it twisted. Subsidy is a beautiful thing. Let me restate what i said.

I said why take away subsidy when even in the west those unemployed are paid benefits? Subsidy is our own form of benefit from the govt. Taking it will be a form of taxations on nigerians

And u said "benefits are paid in form of taxes on citizens.,. In other words there is no subsidy" and you went further to say we don't pay tax in Nigeria, implying we ought to be taxed by taking subsidy away

And I told you again that the Nigerian system is peculiar, we have enouh reserves and incoming income from crude to run the most expensive democracy yet the least truly representative. And we can't afford to subsidise fuel for our OWN CITEZENS? common that is fallacy!

My initial comparison with the west was based on the ESSENSE not the STRUCTURAL SIMILARITIES. Thus the essence of paying unemployment benefit is to to help the those who can't afford to pay their bills and to boost cCONSUMPTION in the economy.
Similarly our subsidy of pms is to help the poopr amongst us have disposable income for CONSUMPTION and probably SAVINGS=INVESTMENT. For some one who spends 30% of salary on feeding 20 on transportation and another 20% for precautionary motives. And SAVES the rest. Tell me a what a more than 100% increase in prices of pms and the associated multiplier effect will do the saving habit of the economy. It will eradicate personal savings of most. Including myself. NOW IS THAT GOOD OR BAD FOR THE ECONOMY?

Benefits are paid from oney collected from taxes including a FUEL TAX. In other words, there is no subsidy in the UK. Rather, the govt taxes fuel to raise money to pay benefits and run the govt. How many Nigerians pay taxes?
In any event, even the benefits syvtem in the UK is being reformed to make it more sustainable. As a result, benefits are now only paid to those who are genuinely unable to work due to a medical condition and those who have made efforts to look for work. in other words, if you just sit at home without making any effort to find work, the govt stops your benefits.

Wouldn't that amount to double taxation. Besides our situation and that of UK is not the same they don't have huge reserves of gas and oil reserves, thus they tax to raise money to run their govt. Have u ever tot of why we don't pay tax and yet we run one of the most expensive govt in the world? NA oyel money!

We shouldn't take the White mans system hook line and sinker, we must align it with our peculiar situations (poverty, illiteracy etc)
It's like a dad who owns a land and built five rooms and asks the sons to pay rent in their fathers house (that's Nigeria)
The UK is like a father renting a house and in other to pay for the rents asks those living with him to contribute to the rent money.
So you se we r incomparable, and by the way we have tax laws and no Nigerian will complain of u enforce them, but leave our subsidy for us

Guys saying subsidy is unsustainable.

Do u now in the west pple r paid unemployment benefit? U r literarily paid money for sitting at home and being a white man, so what's wrong with our govt subsidising our fuel if they can't create jobs, not to speak of paying the unemployed some token.

The argument for subsidy removal is FUNDEMENTALLY wrong

I wonder why SLS got involved in this subsidy debacle, shouldn't his priority be monetary policies, interest rate volatility and exchange rate movements? He should have left the fiscal gymnastics to the finance ministry and politicians

Politics / Re: Muslim Youths Guard Churches In Minna by Maisuya1: 12:45am On Jan 10, 2012
@radical I regret replyin u, but my bad I tot u were worth it.

@nchara there is more to clashes in Nigeria than just conveniently labelling it north vs. South or Igbo vs. Muslim.

There has been killing on both sides (though I hate using north/south) the proportional distribution is not my area of expertise

Also these clashes sometimes has to do with tribal wranglings (in Niger may be Igbo vs. Nupes, in Kano with the hausas, in maiduguri with kanuris, pardon my use of Igbo it's just an example) so it has nothing to do with religion

And at times its just outright conspiracy (just like this BH case) coz neither the northerners nor southerners know who or what those guys really want.

So u see black and White may be two extremes, but in between are various shades of greys

don't get it twisted. Today I read with dismay about the alleged killings in Benin city. And on that thread some pple were chanting yes very good, kill them all. Some one even went as far as commenting of a photo of a  burning human being  as "nice picture"

NB I don't get ur argument, am not from jos, but killing anybody anywhere is wrong, and I commend the actions of the youth of minna coz I was in the minna protest. But if the reports from Benin are true, then it was the community that was attacking the hausa community there

But today I saw so called chrisatains atheists come out here saying kill them Muslims all. Shame on you I say.

Africa as the last resort!

Now the Chinese won't commit to investing, the Latin Americans won't either, the Americans have enough problems of their own than worry about bailing out Europe, and unlike the Africans you can't arm twist the BRIC Nations to invest. Africa is the only place where their leaders are corrupt sell-outs and the masses are ill-educated and shallow minded to actually sit and analyse what they are bargaining.

A couple of days ago there were reports on Reuters news network on how the sudden deregulation is the IMF policy towards Africa (the question is why is there so much secrecy covering these policies, and why won't the IMF come out and say yes the policy is our brain child- well it's becoz of their past record of failed policy every where they've been).
Now is it a sup prise that IMF chief was in some of these African nations in December? And that like dominoes, the subsidy regime in downstream sectors of these counties start falling one after the other. Ghana, Nigeria, guinea, chad, Cameroon you name them.

NOW WHAT'S MY PREDICTIONS.? HERE IS HOW IT WILL GO.

If the deregulation succeeds, the funds will be earmarked and set aside.

Due to the lack of trust of govt by the masses, the coordinating minister of the economy AKA Minister of finance will suggest that we invest the savings in an internationally recognised asset class. Guess what the asset classes will be? Well your guess is as good as mine.

So the savings will either by hook or by crook find their ways to EFSF securities or derivatives there from.

Oh, lest I forget Moody's, fitch and S&P will grade EFSF investments as "+++AAA+++" (if there is anything like that) and foolish African countries that invest in them will have their ratings reviewed upwards (already potential money miss road countries like 9ja have their outlooks reviewed to encourage them take the jump off the cliff)
Politics / Re: My Predictions On The Fuel Subsidy Fiasco And The Imf Connection by Maisuya1: 7:15pm On Jan 09, 2012
Now let me break a bit and explain to those who don't understand how this whole investment process works.

The EFSF is a fund(not funded with cash yet) which is set up to bring in cash to bail out European economies. Now the Europeans -henceforth called the bankrupt, will issue a piece of paper called bond certificates to willing investors like the elusive Chinese and potentially nigerians who will pay to buy these pieces of papers. Now the money the investors pay the bankrupt for the bonds represent certain percentage of the total worth of the EFSF.
Now don't get it twisted, this is no money you hope to get back tomorrow or next five years. It's a long term investment (no wonder our govt keep telling us we must sacrifice for our children, but if we die of hunger today, who go born that children of tomorrow?)

Now in the mean time as you wait for your long term investment to mature- when or if it ever matures! You are paid intrest on your invested money by the bankrupt guy - Europe, (don't forget this guy is bankrupt in the first place, and has set up some wuru wuru vehicle called SPVs so that we forget it has loads of debt on it's head) now these interest we get in the mean time, I can bet you we will not see, coz it's not much and the current corrupt system won't tell us how or when it comes or is spent!

Any one remember the Nigerian SWF? And how it's investment for our shildrens? Now those were just the ground work for what's to follow.

I WILL BE RIGHT BACK
Politics / Re: My Predictions On The Fuel Subsidy Fiasco And The Imf Connection by Maisuya1: 6:54pm On Jan 09, 2012
Now the EFSF is hoping to raise a trillion dollars (note hoping), now that's like over a 100% leverage, it's like a guy filing for bankruptcy trying to raise 100milion  naira from another bank- will that bank lend him the money?

The Europeans were eying the trillion dollar Chinese reserves (thats enough to wash some  eurozone economies down the drain) but the Chinese are not committing any thing to Europe and that has got them worried! Neither are the Latin American economies willing to invest or lend money to Europe's EFSF because they still remember their bad romance with the IMF during the 80's and 90's (read about the Argentinian debt crisis and subsequent default)
Now the last resort is Africa! Why?

I WILL BE RIGHT BACK (will post the links at the end)
Politics / My Predictions On The Fuel Subsidy Fiasco And The Imf Connection by Maisuya1: 6:06pm On Jan 09, 2012
It is no secret that Europe is in crisis, and just like a drowning man Europe is clutching on straws. And now Nigeria happens to be latest straw Europe is clutching on, so we either play along and further condemn the masses to further improvishment or we drown together.

So what am I saying? The European stability fund or EFSF was created in 2010 to source funds to bail out the ailing Europe economies. Note, not that they already have the funds, but to borrow elsewhere. Now who in his right senses will lend money to a broke guy? Well that's where Nigeria is heading (just keep reading). Thus the EFSF in a special purpose vehicle structure. ( I will try to avoid technical areas for easy understanding, but what SPVs mean is simply don't like at the broke guy u r lending money to, just focus on the economic sense of lending out ur excess funds!)

I WILL BE RIGHT BACK

Why has this topic misteriously disappeared from front page?

@all why are some post apparently inciteful? I have never and repeat never seen any where there has been killing in the north and a northerner here says " nice pics" or "way to go, kill them all", if anything all northerners on NL condemn the killing spree by BH.
But today am seeing pple supporting this senseless act here on NL angry

Let me state that the killings in the north has been a hit and run or bomb and disappear by BH, becoz they if they r cought by residents they will be eliminated. But when you see pple been killed in broad daylight like in Benin (I hope it's not true) and by the community they live in, then u are sending a message to associate miscreants in the north to embark on daylight killing spree - which is what BH wants us to unleash on our selves.

I warn u my pple let's desist from this, however tempting. BH is faceless and it's the responsibility of govt to fish them out. If we now put a face to this killings by states or communities the we are opening a pandora box which not you or me know what's in it.

@OP
I think we r protesting against all, which is epitomed by corruption and carelessness in govt, this is evidenced by the lack of will or outright abdjugation of responsibility by govt to protect it's citizens within their own Borders.

And also the Kano understanding between Christians and Muslims at protest site to protect each other was a clear sign to BH or whoever they really are that they are not 'welcomed'.

The thing tire me o. How I wish we can channel our anger and disgust on the govt instead on our selves. Is it not the duty of govt to provide security anymore.

But the military precision and stealthiness by which these BH operate, are they foreign supported, coz if they were all domestic definitely we will have sniffed something out by now.

This has nothing to do with Igbo hating, I live in an Igbo majority my neighbourhood, the other day I started a thread on the cultural section that Igbo kids are the most respectful even more than my Hausa kids, becoz they great u anywhere u see  them, and even as I type there are pple the kids of my Igbo neigbors are using my borehole.
Why in heavens name will I hate them? And i share the same sentiment with the Hausa and Igbo families here.

There is definitely something fishy about this attacks!
