@ Kay I no fit talk much, but seriously take off your googles of 'modern political ideals' and perhaps you will see through history more clearer.

Unfamiliar laws What do you call the Muslims been made to take off veils? Familiar laws ( but then u will try to justify it, and I will say let's cut the semantic gymnastic crap- so let's not go there)

The Muslims pay zakaat, the christains and Jew pay jzyah, both to the state. So what's discriminatory. (that I will be taxed higher in Britain as a Nigerian compared to brits is not discriminatory, but taxing non Muslims lower than Muslim under Muslim state is shocked ) guy cut the crap.

At kay17 as the Quran alludes you cant force a blid man to see. But I will try to answer your concerns to the best of my knowledge and Allah knows best.

Christain citizenship

Now the idea of second class citizens is an invention of some. Also noteworthy is the fact that you can't use today's political ideals as lenses to look into history. In the Islamic empires and Jews  were infact encouraged to judge by their books (see Quran) so no sharia was imposed on anybody, and it is only logical that state laws were applied in matters between Muslims and non Muslims. Also the taxes christains payed was minimal and less when compared to what 'first class' citizens - Muslims, had to pay in form of zakaat. And these taxes on christains and Jews were meant for the protection and other social packages they enjoyed under the state, and infact in war times it was the Muslims who have to go out and defend the teritories and not the chriatain and Jews.

Banu Qurayzah

The Muslims were Under siege from outside forces, madinah was surrounded by the non Muslim forces. In madinah when the Muslims first arrived they had signed a treaties with the major tribes in madinah to live in peace and defend against external aggressors. Now banu qurazah, a Jewish tribe in madinah plotted from within to defeat the Muslims, and ally with the external forces camped outside madinah. Now in any country that is treason and punishable with the harshest punishment (just this week Eric holder said any american that plots to kill Americans can be executed by the government). So banu Qurayzah were purnished for their treason and not because they were Jews.

Yet, when he was campaigning for ban of minarahs he was interviewed by almost all news directly or indirectly, but now that HE HAS EMBRACED THAT WHICH HE DENIED every body just went dumb!

I hope our govt can use the leverage it has wisely. Yes there are more nigerians in SA than vice versa, but there are a lot of SA biz in Nigeria for SA to think twice b4 talking to Nigeria any how. The mtn subscriber base in Nigeria is almost equal to the entire SA population, More than half of standard banks (stanbic) profit is from it's Nigeria operations, including their lucrative and sometimes wuruwuru pension scheme. You can say the same of capital oil and multi choice show me anywhere in the world where multi choice has subscribers as large as in Nigeria?

So u see any biz in Nigeria is an instant hit, that's if you know your onions. The only major Nigerian investment in SA - apart from our banks mickey mouse operations in J'BOURG - is dangotes stake in some obscure SA cement company, and even that is expendable compared to his Nigerian operations.

SO SOUTH AFRICA TAKE TIME BEFORE NIGERIA COMES TO IT'S SENSES AND IMPOSE SANCTIONS ON YOUR BUSINESES (SA must go)

1. Where are the initial promised palliatives, including the commissioned busses meant for states?

2. When are we going to stop commissioning, kickstarting, constituting and start enjoying dividends, getting results, showing progress so far?
Religion / Re: We worship one TRUE GOD not a TRINITY - A Provocative discussion by Maisuya1: 7:26pm On Feb 13, 2012
@ frosbel no doubt you have a very good grasp of the concept. But my major worry is

1.every time I meet a Christian they all have unique understanding of trinity, with majority understanding it as 3 separate PERSONALITY, ie. Father, son and holy spirit.

2. The matter is not helped by the fact that its explanation is not categorical or unequivocal in the bible (I mean detailed by God or his prophets)

3. Church teachings aside, any first reader of the bible from genesis to revelations, will most likely come out with an understanding of oneness of God than of trinity.

@frosbel It's either your ignorance is epic or your delusions are irreversible.

The OP was asking about what was the fate of black Africa b4 the advent of Christianity or even current Islam. And you are here posting your signature trash as usual.

So if I may ask b4 Jesus AS ever walked this earth what was the fate of black Africa?

And even after jesus AS when did christianity get to places like sub Saharan Africa central Africa and southern Africa ? North Africa had Mediterranean links so the roman provinces there are understandable, and the horn of Africa is very close to the middle east, origins of the Semitic religions.
So what was the fate of the rest of Africa b4 colonial Christianity?

The verses I provided above where prove that Allah never differentiated among races when it comes to worshiping only Him. And yes Africa received it's own share of Divine messages even b4 current Islam. Those where the purpose of the quranic verses I quoted.

Mai-suya:

Compare that with the ISLAMIC view of humanity and their relationship with God.

"and ther has never been a nation except a warner once lived amongst them" Quran

"on the day when every nation will be called forth with it's leader (prophet)" Quran

"verily we have sent before you(Muhammad SAW) messengers some of which We have told you their stories and others which we have not told you their stories" Quran

From the above a Muslim believes the black African was never left alone by God almighty, and even though teachings of great men of old might still be with us in form of oral traditions always with time these teachings are either lost or corrupted, but when ever the message is corrupted God sends another man amongst men with a message confirming that which was before.

The concept of salaat (Ill-translated to prayer) is a compulsion on every soul. And it is never waived in any circumstance hence Muslims pray even in the battle field. (that's how much we revere our lord)

@ Lagosshia

You hit the nail on the head. When I was a kid growing up in lagos we attended missionary school ( we were the only Muslims there then) I had all sort of children's bible, songs of praise etc. And as an adult now I have looked into Christianity and seen that intrinsically it offers very little, and most of it teachings are from the church, the priests and evolution over time (how else can you explain gay and female priests).
So yes my knowledge of Christianity has helped confirmed my certainty in islam
Islam for Muslims / Re: Can U Hold A Burning Coal? Then U R A Good Muslim by Maisuya1: 10:20pm On Feb 03, 2012
@deols

Thanks for ur thoughts. I must say riya is one of the killers of the best deeds, and although a fine line separates riya and sincerity, it isn't lost on me.
Remember the story of one of the sahabahs during the early yrs of Islam (perhaps it was ibn Abbas) who used to go to the Kaaba surrounded then by kuffars and publicly declare his faith, and he will be beaten unconscious, only to return the next day to repeat the same thing and beaten again tongue
So you see sometimes it helps to publicly act to encourage others and at the same time guard against riya. It's called 'SAABQU FIL KHAIRAAT'

But thanks for your advice.

I know u r wondering what this thread is about? Read this Hadith : “There will come a time of patience when the one who adheres steadfastly to his religion will be like one who holds a burning coal.”
so what do u do when the coal gets hot, do you let go?

We now live in a world were Muslims are scared of being Muslims We no longer wear clothes that look 'islamic', we don't want to be seen with friends that are too 'islamic', our usernames are not unislamic but far from being Islamic, BUT ABOVE ALL WE OURSELVES ARE ASHAMED OF BEING ISLAMIC.

during my university years abroad I always insisted my food was pork-free which usually makes my order time longer that usual, this cought the attention of a Jewish guy who also doesn't eat pork, and since then we go to the restaurant together in pork-free solidarity movement smiley along the way a White south African Christian joined our launch break pork-free click (so why do Christians in 9ja eat pork?)

Well I will like to hear you experience where practicing Islam has made you look strange to the public (actually I enjoy those all-eyes-on-me moments grin ) like

Praying in an busy international terminal

Praying at the back of the plane flying into Europe  grin (my personal favourite )

Asking for prayer breaks instead of lunch break at work

And lots of burning coal moments which others will let go rather than hold on to.

Religion / Where There Prophets/religions (monotheism) In Africa B4 Islam Or Christianity. by Maisuya1: 12:24pm On Jan 26, 2012
I will appreciate contributions from both MUSLIMS and CHRISTIANS with any contribution to this topic.

First let me state why I started this thread. I am a Muslim and I have come across quranic verses telling us that there were warners/prophets/preachers sent to the different nations on earth, and that every time the message was corrupted with time and the acts of greedy priests a new messenger was sent. Although the most popular messengers we know are the Semitic prophets (Jewish and Arab bloodline). So my question is WHO WERE THE PROPHETS SENT TO THE VARIOUS NATIONS OF AFRICA AND IS THERE ANY REMINANTS OF THEIR MESSAGE?

these are the verses that inspired my question:
"and there has never been a nation except a warner once lived amongst them" Quran 35:24
"and we have sent messengers before you (Muhammad), some of them We have relayed their stories to you, and others we have not relayed their stories to you" Quran 40:78

I would appreciate contribution from Muslims Christians and those with some knowledge of African history.

@dede listen to your self.

"you shal have no sympathy for the dead or wounded" angry. If the people in Kano were BH why would BH attack them?

The same Kano pple some few wks back that helped authorities apprehend some BH suspects found with guns and explosives?
The same Kano people that during the recent protests signed an accord with their Christian brethren to protect each other?
The same Kano people that just last week visited churches in Kano to display their solidarity with Christians amongst them to the world?

And you now turn around and call them BH sympathisers and you don't care if they are killed or wounded?
What do you call your line of argument ? REVERSE REASONING?

Nay! I know your kinds who are using these unfortunate occurrence to further your cawordly agenda which they dare not profer independently of the current conflicts lest they are accused of treason. Well I have news for your kinds, man up, and put forth arguments for what really bothers you deep down, and stop celebrating the deaths of the innocent as means to your ends.

@chima it is hopeless to indulge you further after this.

For government not to be able to secure the life of nigerians even within their territory is not considered as failure on govts part, beats me.

And on the issue of Muslims celebrating killing of Christians as some Christians do here, I DARE U TO PROVIDE A QUOTE OF SUCH SADISTIC STATEMENTS. If you can't good riddance to you.

@ dem people

Let's not get it twisted. I am not here to exonerate the north for it's mistake, neither am I here to console your bitterness towards the north for being a political block to reckon with throughout nigeria's history.

My question was why do some so called Christians make sadistic statements when people are killed in the north. And will I be right to construe your reply as a justification for that? How pathetic! angry

@ chima that's how conflicts are started with baseless presumptions. I asked the so called Christians a question, I even went as far as to qualify the question with "some" Christians ( coz I believe Christianity doesn't teach such hatred), yet you are here fighting ur own shadow.
Guy, grow up and think logically, unless u are the one with hidden agenda hiding behind Christianity to insult Islam and Muslims.

Kindly provide a quote of anywhere a MUSLIM has made statements like " kill them all" "good let the christians die" and a host of other similar nonesense so called Christians spew here on NL on daily basis.

I FIND IT CYNICAL FOR ANYONE TO TRY TO JUSTIFY SUCH STATEMENTS AS U R DOING IN FRUTILITY
Politics / Why Are Some Christains Enjoying It Anytime People Are Killed In The North? by Maisuya1: 10:18am On Jan 22, 2012
I am disgusted by the mood of SOME christains in this forum anytime there is an attack by BH in the north. Shouldn't every human life have value in christiandom. U hear some statements like " yes let them kill them self" or "so long the bombings is in the north"
How low can we stoop? There are those who see the events for what they are, I.e a systemic failure in the current administration.
Why? If I may ask my Christian brothers do you derive pleasure in seeing others die? Yet muslims never make such comments when christians are killed!
We all know BH haram doesn't represent the north or Muslims, they are bunch of criminals killing both Muslims and christains, the major casualties in Kano were Muslims.
Is it that some Christians are cheap opportunists who take advantage of these unfortunate events to attack Islam Muslims and the north? If so then shame on you all.

Islam for Muslims / Your Proudest Moments Or Aspect In Islam by Maisuya1: 10:47pm On Jan 17, 2012
Well I Was just thinking about what I enjoy doing most as a MUSLIM and decided to start this topic so that other Muslims could share their ideas and inspirations too. Here we go;

For me my proudest aspect of islam is the SALAT/prayer! The beauty in it for me is the fact that everywhere on this earth is considered as a masjid by Muslims. Let me share a personal story of praying on top of a mountain HUASHAN china.

I used to stay in china, and I must confess it is the most naturally beautiful place on earth.(don't take that to the bank). One me and my friends went site seeing in xi'an home of the terracotta worriors, (it's one of the seven wonders of the world - u need to see them). We decided to go mountain climbing on the breath-taking HUASHAN (one of the five sacred montains in china). The east peak was over 2000meters high it took us 9 hours to get to the peak (half way I regreted starting the climb coz I was so tired and too scared to go back alone). So almost to the top, I had already missed ZUHR and ASR PRAYERS and it was almost sunset. The higher we went the more narrow and rugged the mountain got.
At this point I was tired, hungry, scared to death ( I had just finish crying inside that I might fall off and die sad ). At this point we I was LITERARILY in the clouds and small particles of snow were stoping. So I decided IF I DIE TODAY I MIGHT AS WELL DIE AFTER PRAYING ZUHR AND ASR smiley
So after making dry ablution as there was no water and my friends were far ahead, I SAT AND PRAYED SITTING ON THE CLOUDS AND WITH THE SNOW COVERING AS MY MANTLE smiley

IT WAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND PEACEFUL PRAYER I HAVE EVER HAD AS IF I WAS IN HEAVEN AS THE CLOUDS PASSED UNDERNEATH ME.
I must confess I couldn't pray standing coz I was scared I will start feeling dizzy and fall from 2000 meters above sea level - not at all an appealing thought wink

So that's me praying on HUASHAN precipitous mountains. LETS HERE YOURS, ANYTHING!
