Islam for Muslims / Re: The Quran Challenge! by Maisuya1: 10:10pm On May 28, 2012 |
Allahu Akbar Kabeeran! I read this verse at least weekly but never noticed this! What amazes me more is that the verse spoke of the sun(in singular) and moon (in singular), thus if i were the speaker the pronoun I would have chosen would have been "kulluhuma" I.e both of them (this is a unique pronoun not available in English as a word) but Allah choose "kullun" I.e all of them (indicating there were other SUNS and MOONS not yet known then). And the intriguing part was that classical scholars, even though they didn't know of the existence of other suns and moons, had no choice but to translate the verse as it were, not as they thought was. THANKS BE TO ALLAH WHO PROMISED TO PRESERVE THE QURAN IN IT'S PURE FORM, AND HAS MADE US AMONGST IT'S PEOPLE. 1 Like |

mazaje: All what you just said doesn't affirm your claim that the Kaaba was not built by Abraham... If any thing, you have just historically cherry picked what suits u and left out what does not. The position of islamic sources (which for some reasons u deny, yet affirm ur above post by) clear 1. Abraham and ismael built the Kaaba 2. Over the centuries idolatry crept into the believe system of the Arabs 3. It eventually became so pervasive that they used the house of God- Kaaba - to store idols 4. When Islam came it destroyed such practice (idolatry) and it's symbols (idols) and reverted back to the true abrahamic faith and the purpose of the Kaaba. So u just picked point 2 and 3 to prove ur point (which by the way are from Islamic sources) and threw out points 1 and 4 Nonetheless don't forget that what I asked for is for u to substantiate ur claim that Abraham didn't built the Kaaba, either through direct factual sources or logical deductions therefrom. Not what or what not the Kaaba was used for. |

mazaje:You made a claim, and I asked u for evidence, you can't now turn the table around and ask me to provide evidence? For what? I made no claim. I am just a silent observer, and even as a Muslim tbaba' evidence fortified argument and your wild guess assertion only tells me you are not a serious debater. By the way if you provide evidence and it is not bias it will be glaring and Muslims will have to prove otherwise, but if indeed it is from the bible thumpers, then we will have no option than reject it. It's simply logic. |

Manny, for a coy to really survive it needs not only generate revenue but profit and free cash. Apart from google no other Internet coy is really making it big in ad revenues, not even yahoo! And I don't think the add revenues (which by the way is the only current anticipated source) of FB revenues can sustain operations for a now 'public' Facebook and also pay dividend. I just don't see it happening. They need to change their biz model or start charging us per hour on FB or selling apps to us- that also I don't see happening. 1 Like |

How can a company which currently doesn't generate revenues (let alone astronomical ones) or even free cash flows be expected to sustain such share price as it was during the IPO. A security is only worth it's discounted future cash flows, in the case of Facebook over a million user base doesn't translate to over a million dollars in revenues. Ask google. 1 Like |

His dilemma now is should he leave his current permanent job with the FG for the big coy job? He sought my advice and I told him think deeply first. What do u think. |
Politics / Re: 'US Behind Terrorist Attacks In Nigeria' by Maisuya1: 1:52pm On May 03, 2012 |
^ Some of the reasons I believe there is more to BH than meets the eye are: Mend have got a long history and experience in fighting govt. Mend attacks on govt where at best I'll Coordinated. Mend had a camp in the creeks where govt knew where to get them when it wanted to get them. On the other hand BH had no expirience whatsoever in any combat, they have no camp or at least non our intelligence services know about. Now how can such a inexperienced group (and also assumed illiterate) be carrying out commando style attacks that dwarfs mends sophistication and only comparable to alshabab and Taliban (don't forget that even these two groups had years of experience in fighting the AU and US respectively b4 they could attain critical mass as far as terrorism is concerned) So I think it will be naive to think there is no involvement of foreign intelligence services in this BH saga. Coz that's how they operate in other regions. The us used the cover of alqaeda and WMDs as reasons to invade iraq which were both non existent at the time. Isreal according to NY times uses some iranian terror group within Iran to try to distablize it. So this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Though more evidence is needed in support |
Politics / Re: 'US Behind Terrorist Attacks In Nigeria' by Maisuya1: 7:29am On May 03, 2012 |
As much as I hate to believe in conspiracy theories. One thing that puzzles me is that sampling opinions here in e north virtually every one is sincerely convinced that BH is either govt sponsored to destabilise the north or some 'southern' conspiracy to weaken the north. On the other hand most southerners are also deeply convinced that this is the north using BH to destabilise the GEJ administration. Now both these views are extreme opposite of each other, hence one can not rule out the fact that someone somewhere is playing on this populist sentiments (foreign or domestic, directly or indirectly) What I expect from regional leaders is to move to the next level from arewa leader meetings or south south meetings to meetings of both or all regional heads to find a solution to this scourge which I believe sincerely neither the south or north is guilty of (the only thing both sides are guilty of is mistrust and sometimes hatred of each other, and which is exactly what BH is exploiting or hoping to exploit) |

Imagine! Did it just occur to them that this day was one of the paper that published the beauty pageant Their modus operandi reels of politics. First it was because their leader was killed, then to islamise Nigeria, then for all southerners to live the north and now because of a 2002 story (which they conveniently realise just in the heat of the subsidy scam!). Now what reason would they give for subsequent attacks, that they are retaliating nigeria's bombing of the maitatsine sect in the '80s? Common this is politics at it's dirtiest, nigerians should now better. may God expose all of them |
Islam for Muslims / Re: Why Should I Believe In God? by Maisuya1: 3:51pm On May 01, 2012 |
^ @ logic the problem with your line of reasoning and that of most people like you is that there is this generic belief that Islam is as like Christianity in their implausiblity. That's wrong. Yes there are similarity between Islam and Christianity, buts thats just because they both came from the same source- Allah, and there are also fundamental differences between the two 'religions' but this is because the latter had influences of roman, babylonian and contemporarily western influences. Islam has been and is always pure (for reasons I can't include here for scope and concision sake). According to the Quran Islam was the religion, Adam, Noah, Abraham, Enoch, Ishmael, isiah, Moses, David, Solomon, Mary, and Jesus (PBUT). This is also true for Aryan religions like Hinduism and it's derivatives. All of the above mentioned had to believe in one, and only one God, but the religious rituals varied according to time and geography. The Quran after mentioning stories of some biblical messengers and other non biblical messengers in the chapter called 'prophets', beautifully concluded thus: "Surely this Islam is your religion, one religion (only), and I am your Lord, therefore serve Me"(21:92). (simple and unequivocal).(u can also refer to videos by Dr zakir naik on YouTube on concept of god in Hinduism, budhism, zorastrianism etc and you will see evidence of how all these great creeds started as monotheistic faiths but were latter derailed by generations later) Now with this background set, I will try to address some of the concerns mr Sam raised (about Christianity!) One of the innate seed of intellectual self destruction which Christianity sowed in itself (note this was not from god evidently from the bible itself) was the concept of trinity, divinity of Jesus and the original sin. These dogmas are so counterintuitive that some modern day Christian denominations are untangling themselves from this ancient debacle by early chrisatians. My point here is this is so unislamic (ie the Islam of Jesus, Moses, Abraham and Muhammad PBUT which was to worship only one God). Moral accountability which was also mentioned by the speaker as a point against Christianity. I will just answer this with a definitive position of Islam. THE ONLY SIN GOD DOES NOT FORGIVE WITHOUT SINCERE REPENTANCE AND ACTUAL CORRECTION ARE 1.ASSOCIATING PARTNERS WITH HIM ALMIGHTY, AND 2. VIOLATING ANOTHER PERSONS RIGHT WITHOUT SEEKING FOR THAT PERSONS FORGIVENESS FIRST OR CORRECTING THE VIOLATION BOTH ON WHICH GOD's FORGIVENESS IS CONDITIONAL. cultural isolation Is another point mentioned by the speaker, where he meant a persons is not responsible for which religion he is born into. Deductive reasoning using my first paragraph should answer this point, but I will still comment. Yes, you are not responsible for where you are born, but you are responsible for your choices thereafter especially when you reach puberty(in Islam children below the puberty age are not held accountable). Also in his infinitive mercy and justice God sent a messenger to all nations before the Quran was revealed. Thus God says in the Quran : "...and there never was a people, without a warner having lived among them (in the past)". (35:24) also Allah says: (We sent) messengers as the givers of good news and as warners, so that people should not have a plea against Allah after the (coming of) messengers...(4:165). In essense what this verse is saying is you have no valid proof against Allah after the messages and in our case now the Quran. On his talk on the bible glorifying slavery, I would say in the case of Islam that is not the case. Islam arrived at a time when slavery was the norm by Arabs, Romans, Persians etc. Hence it had to put in practical steps to solve the slavery issue. So Islam tied freeing of slaves to core components of the religion like divorce laws, fasting laws, expiation ' unintentional' perjury. What all these means is that for delinquencies in divorce, fasting, oaths etc one of the way for expiation was freeing a slave(you can refer to any index of a quranic translation and lookup verses that speed about freeing slaves). All these are in addition to countless ahadith that sleek about virtues of freeing slave. So all in all Islam provided a concrete action oriented way of solving the scourge of slavery (not just by words). Suicide in Islam is clear. It is forbidden. So suicide bombers are also not Islam. To save space and time rather than provide verses that forbids suicide, I will ask you, if you can to provide any verse that allows suicide Finally he spoke about faith and evidence and how chistianity does a bad job in providing evidence for faith. One of the beauty of Islam is that it encourages evidence and research and further research. Thus you see the Quran filled with words and sentences like 'will they not think' 'will they not ponder' 'do they not see' 'will they not reason' etc. Also I believe the op video addresses this better. (note these are my humble submissions) |
Islam for Muslims / Re: Why Should I Believe In God? by Maisuya1: 11:48pm On Apr 30, 2012 |
@logic you must understand that our existence transcend the current temporary state we are in this world. The whole essense of life and death "is to test who amongst us will be best in deeds" (67:2) so If you are rich or poor, black or White, healthy or starving it doesn't matters all that is required is justice to yourself and to others and you've passed the test (note that in Islam shirk is the greatest injustice to oneself). In others words the healthy who ignores the starving even though he can help would probably fail this test, the starved one who despite his condition doesn't compromise on his goodness will probably pass the test and so on. Let me share a personal experience while reading this particular portion of the quran: Cursed be the makers of the pit - Of the fire (kept burning) with fuel - When they sat by it - And they were witnesses of what they did with the believers. - And they did not take vengeance on them for aught except that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Praised. (85:4- Now I thought about these so called people of the ditch which probably were a civilization before Islam. Now immagine the cruelty been meted against the group of believers. Also note that even though they believed in Allah, such an ill fate still happened to them. Immagine women, children, entire families been burnt in such a ditch, yet all these happened under the watch of Allah. Why? The answer is Because both the killers and the killed in that story were being tested, and both are now history back with their Lord to give account of themselves. (I can't put down the deep essense of that story to me here in words). And it is to honour their memory that the creator of all things mentioned their courageous story in His Quran that we the final nation before the last day might learn from such. I will end with this verse of the Quran to put the Somali picture you provided into perspective: Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere, (2:155) |

Op I feel you. I worked with 2 top banks in this country b4 I left and became a lecturer at the department of entrepreneurship and business studies at a federal university. Now from the breif details you've provided I have deducted that 1. You are mid aged chap who require a safe investment. Note that anything you invest in now should be highly liquid (to support you personal and family needs) and also provide capital gains (other wise if your savings get impaired you are as good as dead without a new job) 2. Your previuos network from the job are still in place, this is an asset for any business, as they could serve as your first line of contact. Now entrepreneurs are not born they are made, and in your case you have close to zero experience in it. There is no silver Stroke to success, and this is even more so for an entrepreneur who's middle name is risk! But here are some general guidelines to help you make a decision. For any biz idea to succeed it must meet an opportunity ie any idea without an opportunity or even before or after it's opportunity is as good as a failure. SO OBSERVE TRENDS ARROUND YOU FOR OPPORTUNITIES. More specifically you will find opportunities by observing Social trends Demographic trends Technological trends etc The idea is to find an opportunity and present a matching biz idea. Secondly any biz you go into must do these three things. Generate revenue, make profit and provide free cash (because you have no job at the moment, there is no compromise on any of these 3) Finally start searching for a new job, given your background, experience and certification, you should hopefully be able to get a new job. PS. I saw this today in my department you who knows it might help, especially since you are in ABJ. "competency based economies through the formation of enterprise (CEFE) @ FUT minna, is organising a one week intensive, innovative and fun filled entrepreneurship training titled BE YOUR OWN BOSS. The reg fee I think is just N 2500. And you can get to discuss further with expert. Although am not part of CEFE one of the areas I specialise in entrepreneurial financing and financial management. If you decide to make (WHICH IS NOT A MUST)may be we can meet and discuss further. Nonetheless good luck in what ever you decide 3 Likes |
Politics / Re: El-rufai's Interesting Perspective On The Thisday Bomb Attack by Maisuya1: 5:54pm On Apr 28, 2012 |
I started this thread so that reasoning folks among us can share their analysis with us, both for and against the elrufai hypothesis. I don't think Jonathan personally has anything to do with BH, but I do think he knows more than he's willing to admit (and that's withholding vital info from nigerians), in other words I think he's guilty of complacency or Complicity or even both. Why? How should we believe the rag tagged BH yaradua 'siquairly' crushed (sending them running in bushes) would metamorphose into media savvy (some will argue that BH media team is more well managed than that of the presidency!) well trained commandos that carry out attacks with military precision - except if some big PDP men are involved in both logistics and funding. Now in this case the Game is chess and not checkers as some shallow minded people will want us to believe that it's either the fault of core north or muslims or both depending on how they twist the context. Another Irony of the BH saga is the notorious Abu-qaqa is not from core north, and even their acclaimed leader speaks Hausa with a funny accent!(I don't know if anyone has noticed from his video- suggesting to me that he also is not from the famous core north). Also worrying is the noticed and unnoticed arms being smuggled into the north from unlikely locations and by unlikely people. One would expect BH to utilise more of core northern personel and more of the sahara route. And many other details that don't add up. |

Gen azazi one GEJ closest adviser just blamed the PDP for BH. Why is it that the last thing we want to do as nigerians is use our brain for in-depth analysis. Do you need to be told that there is something fishy about this attacks. Kano and Lagos major points of the fuel subsidy protest what happened next? One woke up with military everyehere the other went to sleep with bombs every where. The cumulative effect is al protest cancelled. Now I never elected BH neither do I support their cause (coz if I did I won't be asking GEJ to fish them out). If asking the president to give nigerians whom elected him situation reports of events in the country is such an issue to you guys, I would suppose asking him to go after BH will be to much to ask. Gosh! How do u guys reason, must every one be narrow minded like you. I myself have a brother who lost a leg in the pre election suleja bombings.(I don't pray that for anybody). ^ given a world population that runs in billions, I won't call the ratio you provided as negligible. Also bear in mind that this ratio varies significantly in different regions, countries and cities. Adjusting the age to the marriage age (aprox. 15) will also tilt the ratio a bit, and many other variables and provisions you need to take into consideration. Note Islam does not recognises homosexuality or lesbianism, infact they are crimes as far as Islam is concerned.(that wil also affect the ratio). |
Islam for Muslims / Re: Can Islam Really Survive Another 20 Years? by Maisuya1: 9:37am On Apr 20, 2012 |
logicboy: strictly speaking on the quran where it stated about women not marrying non-muslim could you complete what it also says about men marrying non-muslim? thats strictly speeking about the quran as you said. but then, studying the hadith and ijma you will get a clearer picture of the reasons. on the issue of rights show me any verse in the quran which you think contravenes rights? you of all people should know better than making blanket generalizations. also on the issue of polygamy you would agree with me that monogamy as a way in its self is a recent phenomenon going by world history. Man has been polygamous throughout the ages. and this has been the case not because of the quran or the bible or religion, but because it is in mans nature (africans were also polygamous). and even today you would agree with me that men are more likely to keep mistresses and girlfriends after marriage than women are to keep lovers after marriage (am not saying its not possible). so instead of keeping these unlawfull mistresses and girlfriends whom you give no 'human right' (they dont inherit you, their children are considered bastards etc) Islam gave them rights by allowing you to bring at most four (even though islam encourages you to be with one if you cant be just to four), so they can inherit you, their children are legit, it is an obligation for you to provide for them, and the lists of their rights goes on and on. Now from another perspective globally there are more women than men. and this is true for most countries in the world (with exception for countries like india for obvoius reasons). the implication of this is that, if everey man gets married to a woman there would still be a sizable population of women without partners, in essence they end up as 'public properties' (neither I nor you want our mothers sisters or daughters to be PPs), so the only plausable solution is for any willing and able man to take another wife not mistress. and these will go along way in eliminating the prostitution black market. Otherwise you can profer a better solution. |
Islam for Muslims / Re: Can Islam Really Survive Another 20 Years? by Maisuya1: 5:25pm On Apr 17, 2012 |
Islam survived the crusades and other external threats at medeval times when it was more easier to wipe out an ideology. that said.... you should know that islam is a way of life not a religion. so when you ask if islam wount survive d next 20 years, are you talking about; POLITICAL ISLAM; which as practiced by most so called islamic states has no islamic bases (by supressing your own people, absolute mornachy was not endorsed by islam). Our own Usman bin fodio sumarized it with these beautiful words 'a nation can survive with disbelief in God, but no nation can survive with injustice' ISLAMIC ECONOMICS; this area is actually growing and becomming more robhust, evident from the exponential increasing in assets managed under islamic principles. a noteworthy subsection is islamic finance. ISLAMIC SPIRITUALITY; i can assure you that ironically or miraculously even with the current onslaught on the islamic identity both by the western media and ignorant fundementalists. more and more people are reverting to islam from countries especially in the west were, scholarship is still valued, and any sincere truth seeker who picks up the islamic sources recognises the disconect between the media narrative and the so called islamic fundementalist on one hand and the true islamic teachings. Although i must add that to the muslims the above mentioned areas (whic are not exhaustive) are not independent of each other, infact politics, economics and spirituality in islam are not exclusive of each other, they are rather dependent on each other. so yes the political islam as seen today may not survive, but that is part of the new islamic renaissance 4 Likes |

Believe it or not the Nigerian factor played a part in her loss. Now imagine Nigeria with the largest Market in Africa, with countless amount of natural resources, with internationally respected personalities - from the richest Blackman to Africa's first Nobel winner, and to cap it all A TRULY DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT OF THE PPLE BY THE PEOPLE - not the PDP led rubbish. Now tell me even if the us nominee was going to win in such hypothetical Nigeria it wouldn't have been a Korean lab rat, and it would have thriller could have been more intense. Why? Because the Europeans will be weighting backing America and causing ruffles in relations with the largest black nation, the Russians would be neutral to protect their investments in the oil sector and so on. But this is hypothetical Nigeria, in real Nigeria, no one takes us serious. |
