NDPVF: You see, most times i enjoy reading your posts and comments afterwards, than commenting. But let me quickly point this out. This comment i quoted,is where the APC problem started, and that is where people like me,and other Nigerians who saw afar, marked APC a "soon-to-be-expired-product",right from the day of its merger, and subsequent events that happened before, during and after they "elected" selected/imposed their party officials by one man called Tinubu. I understood the reason North maintained their silence then.It wasnt because they doesnt what Tinubu was upto then, but they kept quiet, waiting for the " -DAY".They did what is called "playing-along",and Tinubu installed almost all the party structures, and virtually determines what happens in the party, but what North wants then is "power",not party, hence, they lured Tinubu into thinking he has the party in his pocket,so that he can pull sw voters to them,to complete their number. But now,North has the power, and MUST control the party. That is why,if i use the word USE AND DUMP,i know what am talking about. The party executives/officials you are talking about,is "Tinubu, because he virtually appointed all perharps with oath of allegiance/commitment",so that he will use them in days like this. So,when you said the party ratifies the names sent to Saraki and Dogara, you are saying "Tinubu" ratifies the names. This is why the northern interests that wants to control the party now,are secretly supporting Saraki and Dogara,so as to have the party in their control. Let me ask you,are you aware that their has been a call lately for Oyegun to resign?.why havent Northern APC political elites come out to openly castigate Atiku?.Atiku?.Yes Atiku.Bombshell;Saraki and Dogara are playing a well orchestrated Atikus tape,to control APC!. You nailed it. Most people assumed that Saraki and Dogara were responsible for the National Assembly crisis. What they don't know is that Backroom powers including the President himself are responsible for the National Assembly fracas. Actually, this is not a National assembly crisis, but an APC crisis manifesting through the National Assembly. A case of APC power blocks fighting against each other. |

EzekweSilly said GEJ's government was worse than Shagari in her latest outbust. Now, if indeed GEJ's government was the worsest in history, how come Nigeria became one of the fastest growing economies in the world (not Africa) growing at the rate of 7 percent per annum in the last decade Was Nigeria among the fastest growing economies in the 1980s Her hatred for GEJ because of lack of appointment will not let her see this news. |

shigoslim: this will worsen off the economy. While did u think Nigeria is rated as largest economy in Africa ? Not because her populate has better off but due to the fact that her small scale enterprising has continue to experience tremendous growth.
I will go you an example. Assuming i'm bringing some product to your town after making sale from that product, the money i earned in your economy or town where did u think i will invest it back to? Do u think i will invest it back to your economy or town ? Which the answer is capital NO ......... I will take it back to my town invest it there where by my investment will continue growing and creating employment for my timing populate. Now tell me who will benefits most is it my town or your town? Answer to this question is already tell you that in international market there is no permanent friend or enemy only interest.
Tell your oga Buhari that is taking some wrong decision . We are on the same side. |

989900: While you're partially right, OTOH, we don't have the actual numbers.
On the flip side, wouldn't you rather get 500M + 35% taxes= 675m vs 500m and no taxes? I mean these items still find their way in, one way or the other.
Like I stated earlier, the immediate focus after this, if it were my company or government, is to find a way to create an enticing enabling environment to lure those manufacturers here, while also assisting the local ones.
This is what most governments are doing now, from U.A.E to Bahrain to Lithuania to China, Malaysia, even Japan, the U.S and more. #FTZ I will go for 500M with no taxes. Remember the original idea for the bane is to stimulate the growth of the textile industries. This will take some time ofcouse but the economy will be better off in the long run via jobs and value creation. Our GDP will be boosted. Its ironic that APC government who pledged 10 percent in GDP growth per annum are surprisinly implementing policies that will make it difficult for them to achieve that target. |

jomonic: There is no misleading others here as you surmised. That move by Buhari is a smart one because government will earn some revenue from it. In the long run the importers will earn enough capital to invest in either textile or other cottage industries. Aba was booming at a time based on private enterprise. Looks like some government policies are having a knock on effect hence the desperate need to revert. Indeed lifting bane on these items will provide some revenue to the government. But the negative effects will be much worse. High importation of textile and furniture will obviously lead to more import duties and more revenue to the government. But here is the loop. High importation and low export will lead to trade imbalance with countries where these products are imported. Example: Suppose Nigeria exported to China cocoa, palm oil and sesemi seads worth $500,000,000. And Nigeria imported from China phones, machineries, textiles and computers, worth $1,000,000,000. Then Nigeria will have to pay the differential of $500,000,000 in foreign currency to China. This will boost China's balance of trade. That means China made a profite of $500,000,000 trading at the expence of Nigeria. By lifting bane on these items, the government have sign off our balance of trade and investment to more advance countries where these products are made. The economy will suffer for it. |

Politics › Re: FG Lifts Ban On Importation Of Furniture , Textiles by major466(m): 9:07am On Jun 24, 2015 |
lomprico: and foreign textiles still floods our markets nation wide. Abegii this was just film trick, was it finally burned? Companies like bedmate, lifemate where thriving on imported furnitures, which they sell freely, there is a street in DLine port harcourt where tgey sell both home n office furnitures, all imported mostly from china. So bro there was no enforcing of that policy. The United States has one of the best securities and border patrols in the world, yet contrabands like hard drugs still find their way into the country. Indonesia and Malasia have the strictest form of purnishment for hard drugs peddlers. But as we speak, drug peddlers are swinddling large kilos of cocain into these countries despite the hash laws. Truth is, no system is perfect. People will still find ways to smuggle contrabands into a country. This is the evil part of human nature mankind have to deal with. |
Politics › Re: FG Lifts Ban On Importation Of Furniture , Textiles by major466(m): 8:40am On Jun 24, 2015 |
For goodness sake there are other smart ways to generate revenue without risking the nations manufacturing sector. This move is counter productive. The previous government baned these items to stimulate the growth of our furniture, textile industries to boost the economy and create jobs. The furniture and textile industries alone have the capacity to create hundreds of thousands of jobs when the right policies are implemented. Lifting bane on these items will jeopardize these industries because it will lead to the influx of all manner of textile materials into the country. Making Nigeria a dumping ground for cheap import products. The government of Duara Magician will soon regret making this decision. |
