Buhari denies health concerns, foreign trip JANUARY 18, 2015 BY JOHN ALECHENU, ABUJA 11 Comments The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. General Muhammadu Buhari has denied media reports that he was terminally ill and was preparing to go abroad for medical attention. Buhari spoke to reporters at the Rivers State Governors’ Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, on Sunday. Some Nigerian newspapers and on-line publications (The Punch not inclusive), in their Sunday editions; reported that the former military ruler was terminally ill and has been flown out of the country for medical attention. He said the reports were orchestrated by desperate individuals seeking to use it to gain undue political advantage. The APC candidate also used the occasion to debunk allegations that his tenure at the defunct Petroleum Trust Fund was riddled with corruption. According to him, his tenure at the PTF was thoroughly investigated and the report presented to the then President Olusegun Obasanjo who recently confirmed it. Buhari said, “(a national daily) reported that I was to jet out for medical checkup yesterday but here I am. I was at Nasarawa and Benue states yesterday; tomorrow I am going to be in two states. “The day after tomorrow, in two more states. I am doing two states per day. How they got the impression that I was sick I do not know. Although I got cold and that did not stop me from going through my schedule.” Commenting on medical documents purportedly confirming his alleged poor state of health, Buhari said, “I don’t know of this desperation. “The issue we are telling Nigerians is that of corruption in this country for the last16 years the PDP has literally destroyed this country. “This is the issue and what has my health got to do with that one, have I been sick on daily basis? And (that) document has been put on paper, on tweeter that I am sick and the ABU (Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital) said they are forged documents. This desperation is beyond my understanding.” When pressed to make a categorical statement on his state of health, Buhari jokingly asked the reporter, “how old are you, 50 years?; I am telling you if go to the field, you would not last the time I will last in the field.” On his stewardship of the PTF, he said, “That one has been cleared. There is no fraud in PTF, there was an investigation and General Obasanjo has answered that question, he confirmed that there was an investigation and the report was brought to him and there was nothing on ground as far as my management and chairmanship of the PTF was concerned. “So what else can I say? The person who did the investigation because he was the Head of State he cleared me so what else can I say?” www.punchng.com/news/buhari-denies-health-concerns-foreign-trip/ |

Politics / Ondo State Government Locks Akure Democracy Park Because Of GMB/APC Rally. by mamajohn(f): 10:20pm On Jan 17, 2015 |
I found this very funny. I drove to Oja-Oba in Akure this evening to buy some stuffs only to find out that the expansive Democracy Park that usually serve as Car Park to the Large market when no political activity is taking place there, is under lock and key. The place has hosted all political rallies in the state since it was built few years ago. The giant gates leading to the park has been rolled up and padlocked with giant keys. Confused about where to park my vehicle or make a u-turn in the ever crowded narrow road leading to the park, I came down from my Toyota 4 Runner truck to ask from people around why the gates were locked. To my amazement, I was informed that the state government locked the park to prevent GMB/APC from using it whenever their campaign train gets to Akure the Ondo State capital. Isn't this funny? Is this democracy? The question in the mouth of the traders and users of the park is "will the closure of the park prevent them from voting GMB"? Someone even said GMB should come and hold his rally in the street of Akure if all the official places for such programmes are not released for his use. Recall that the Ondo State command of the Nigeria Police Force teargassed a tumultuous crowd participating in a pro-APC rally in Akure last week on the instruction of the governor, Is this how Dr Mimiko will get the one million votes he promised to give to GEJ in Ondo State? my comment on the attitude of the governor is that this time shall pass and when we remember this time, we shall think about the role of Dr Mimiko in stifling democracy in Nigeria. It took the assistance of a more experienced driver to help move my vehicle out of the artificial logjam created by the governor of Ondo State for political reasons. Well my PVC is kept in a very secured place where no one will dispossess me of it, it is going to give GEJ minus one vote from me, cheers! 9 Likes 1 Share |

Goodluck 2015: The light goes dim PUNCH, JANUARY 16, 2015 BY FOLA OJO President Goodluck Jonathan surfed to power six years ago on the back of widespread national approbation. His approval rating spiked through the roof in a historically- unprecedented fashion. He was Goodluck the beloved, Goodluck the saviour, it was all about Goodluck! Nigerians from all tribes were determined to make his battle their battle; wherever he led them, they had braced themselves to follow; and his God they were prepared to make their God. The good and virtues Nigerians saw in Jonathan were probably much more than the virtue Jesus saw in Judas Iscariot when he appointed him a disciple overseeing his treasury. Today, the President’s political fireplace has gone frigid, the fire-in- the-belly of his government has waned as Boko Haram and widespread economic uncertainties have come hitting Nigerians like an unannounced swirling killer-blizzard. And the President’s men, like a losing kick-boxer are flailing at anything and anyone real or imagined with the sharp instruments of presidential incumbency in an attempt to win the fight. My President is in the fiercest battle of his political life against Muhammadu Buhari, an astute, stout and sharp-witted retired Army General who is backed by an undying, increasing, and resolute following across Nigeria. Previous fights the President had won were fought by godfathers and the few powerful who believed in him. Many of the exalted positions Jonathan has so far occupied were brought to him by Goodluck. And where are those ardent and true supporters now? One by one, they have fled and found new friends in the arch-rivals of Mr. President as his ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party, continues to run out of clue. Strip by strip, the carpet of support is pulled from under his feet, and the haemorrhaging appears to have just begun. Nine governors did not show up in his reelection declaration in Lagos; a buddy-priest of his, Enugu-based Father Ejike Mbaka, went on an endless tirade that our own Goodluck has actually brought Nigeria and especially the Igbo bad luck. On Monday, behind closed-doors in Abeokuta, the President smooched up in a room with two reputable Nigerian clerics and his estranged benefactor, Olusegun Obasanjo, begging the latter for support. But “Baba” told his late-coming penitent son that someone else already sought and received his support. I learnt that this was the most depressing moment of Jonathan’s Presidency. From state to state, Mr. President is losing steam, ground, and men in thousands to the opposition party APC on a daily basis. I cannot recall in Nigeria’s history where a ruling party and an incumbent President have lost so much support in a rumbling sequence of 30 days before an election. Jonathan’s electoral chances in this election are getting dimmer by the day. His story can be likened to that of the 29th president of the United States, Warren G. Harding, whose administration was a train-load of unending scandals that ranged from cover-ups of shady business deals and large scale corrupt activities by members of his cabinet. Like Harding, no one has accused Jonathan of corruption; and like Harding, Jonathan’s Achilles heels are those around him who are believed to be the cruella-de-vil of greed, graft and gluttony. Money in the hands of Jonathan’s lieutenants at all levels of government, many believe, is like ice cream in the mouth of a child; it melts fast and easy through the conduits of corruption and thievery, and you will not remember it ever was. Because of the complex and intricate nature of Nigeria as a country, Nigerians could have probably been more forgiving if non-performance in government were the only shortcoming of this administration. But dismal performance conjoined with supersize corruption is not a transgression that Nigerians easily forgive. Profligacy has been rumoured to be at a scary scale with Nigerian politicians; and in the world of the ruling party, the PDP, it appears as if it is a necessary and desired undergarment. There is too much conscious or unconscious coddling of graft by this President. If former Head of State, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, believes that his administration should be considered an angelic being regarding corruption compared to Jonathan’s, then this administration must be the unrepentant Lucifer of larceny and a dashing baron of daylight robbery that ever existed in the annals of Nigerian history. We all remember Babangida and his men. When the President said that corrupt government officials will not see the four walls of a prison under his authority, it was an announcement that depraved minds will always have a free pass with him. Incarceration of those adjudged corrupt, Mr. President, is a very powerful deterrent for those who steal public funds. A heavy portion of this year’s budget was set aside for entertainment in the Villa, “estacode” for gazillion of aides travelling with the President all around the world, and the acquisition of more airplanes. The government is proposing to spend N517.9m this year on meals and refreshments for the Presidency, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, ministries of power and petroleum resources as well as their parastatals. For the office of the President, N142.47m was earmarked for 2015 for refreshments and meals, and N25.58m was earmarked for meals and refreshments for the office of the VP. In a country where over 100 million people are considered poor, this is nothing but a legacy of waste. The US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Enwistle, has now told us that his country had intended to train a battalion of the Nigerian Army up to world standard; and the agreement was that the US would provide the trainers and the Nigerian government, the equipment. After a few weeks of training, the US had to back out because no equipment was provided by Nigeria. What happened to the N1tn the Minister of Finance, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, publicly announced was in the 2014 budget for the military? What happened to the first-class equipment that should have been procured? The minister had said; “Defence spending is top in everything, you know that military establishment needs new things to assist in its work and ours will not be different…To be specific, the military has about N968.12bn and we have disbursed N130.7bn between January and April 2014.” With this huge sum, why is Boko Haram controlling more than 20,000 square miles of the Nigerian sovereign territory, an area larger than Switzerland, Bosnia- Herzegovina, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Israel and 144 other countries of the world? Why must our soldiers be ill-equipped, badly-managed, and morale badly bruised? About 17,000 innocent people have been killed so far more than those who died in the first US Gulf War. Presidents of nations make surprise visits to men and women who are laying down their lives for their countries in battles, but why is Jonathan not in that league? The music is fading for Mr. President, the light is dimming for the ruling PDP, and a shellacking train is about tearing through Abuja into Aso Rock taking the President and his men on a first-class cabin back to abodes of their choices. Nigerians can’t wait! Having expressed this opinion, Dear Readers, I want you to mark this: It will be at your peril and pitfall to count out an incumbent African President called Goodluck. The battle will get dirtier as we draw close to February 14. But what shines in the horizon is that candidate Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who took the centre stage of global attention four years ago is not the same candidate today. No doubt, the light has dimmed drastically upon him, but he remains the President and Commander-In- Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria throughout the election period. You never know, President Jonathan may still have some oil of Goodluck left in his presidential jar. www.punchng.com/opinion/goodluck-2015-the-light-goes-dim/ 1 Like |

The family must be poor and therefore need an assistance in renovating their house, you will also see that all that they would need for the wedding in terms of food and drinks are being demanded from you, it could be as a result of their poor financial standing and they see it as opportunity to get those things from you since their daughter has presented you as a "rich man" to them, the lady must be young and immature My advise is that you call the lady and speak maturely to her, educate her on the need not to put pressure on her hubby when they are eventually married, counseling her that they have a bright future together Sixty thousand naira as a starting salary is not bad if the couple won't live in Lagos, they can manage together but the issue of pressure from inlaws should be sorted out now Please Sir, go ahead and assist them since you have made up your mind to do so and since you can afford it, don't allow the wedding to be suspended, it could turn out to be so bad especially for the lady, thanks 1 Like |

Governor Fayose Explodes: Presidential Contest A Do-Or-Die Affair, Advocates Use of Police/Army To Win Election An inaugural meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Southwest was held in Akure on Saturday with the objective of outlining a strategy for winning the 2015 elections in the area, with Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose reiterating the party’s old mantra that the presidential contest is a “do or die” affair. BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK JAN 02, 2015 1.1K 96 71 An inaugural meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Southwest was held in Akure on Saturday with the objective of outlining a strategy for winning the 2015 elections in the area, with Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose reiterating the party’s old mantra that the presidential contest is a “do or die” affair. Ayodele Fayose The returnee-governor said the party must be prepared to use its control of the army and the police, which it currently controls, to ensure victory for President Goodluck Jonathan at next month’s polls. The meeting was organized by the PDP South-West co-ordinator, Gov. Olusegun Mimiko, who shared the high table with Senitor Iyiola Omisore, Mr. Kolapo Ogunjobi, Senator Musilu Obanikoro, Governor Ayo Fayose and various leaders from the zone. Governor Fayose underlined that the presidential election was critical, advising that the party should forget about governorship elections and concentrate on the presidential contest. According to him, once President Jonathan was re-elected, everything else would fall into place and the party could declare the governorship candidates of PDP in various States as it likes. Minutes of the meeting obtained by SaharaReporters shows that some delegates advocated de-emphasizing rallies as campaign strategy, preferring that the PDP should focus on propaganda aimed at tarnishing the image of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari. Some of the delegates wanted to use the media to dent the image of General Buhari. In that connection, Senator Omisore expressed support for the extensive use of propaganda against Buhari, joining Governor Fayose in stressing that the all efforts should be mobilized to win the Presidency because the PDP would be nothing without the presidency. Mr. Fayose disagreed with the propaganda strategy, describing it as a waste of time. Stressing that attack is the best form of defence, he said that the PDP in general and the South-west PDP should be valiant to face the Tinubus anywhere they are. He underlined that the PDP cannot afford to lose its control of the police and the army, which it will without Jonathan being the president. On Fayose’s description of the presidential election as a “do or die” affair, Gov. Mimiko, obviously aware that the outburst could be used against the PDP, countered that it should not be a “do or die” but rather a “do-and-win” affair. One of the decisions taken by the meeting was to set up a number of committees, including Security, Contacts, Traditional, and INEC. The committee on Security is saddled with the responsibility of working with the police and the army. The party leaders also further tasked the students at both the national and regional levels to monitor various institutions and polling booths to make sure that the election goes in favour of President Jonathan. It was also stated that a national student body had submitted a proposal for a youth conference that will hold in FUTA this month where the South- west students would adopt Jonathan as their presidential candidate. TEXT OF THE MINUTES OF THE INAUGURAL MEETING OF THE SOUTH WEST PDP, HELD ON 27TH DECEMBER 2014 The inaugural meeting of the southwest PDP was held in Akure, at the Government House of the State (Ondo State). The meeting was organized by the PDP South-West co-ordinator, Gov. Olusegun Mimiko. On the high table were Gov. Olusegun Mimiko, Senitor Iyiola Omisore, Mr. Kolapo Ogunjobi, Senator Musilu Obanikoro, Governor Ayo Fayose, a governorship aspirant in Oyo State and various leaders from the South-West. At the beginning of the meeting, the host appealed to all the South-West PDP members and leaders to be united so as for them to be able to gain more votes from the zone. And people were given opportunity to give opinion on how they could get more votes for the presidential election in 2015 and win other positions. A speaker from Lagos State made a comment that Senator Muslim Obanikoro’s son, Ibrahim Obanikoro, that contested for the position of council chairman in one of the LCDA’s in Lagos State, defeated Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his area but was not given the position. He mentioned that that they had the key in winning Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and that Asiwaju only claims what he cannot do. And the speaker further said that they needed the support of the Presidency to do so many things in Lagos State, concerning the forth-coming election. Also, another speaker from Lagos State emphasized on issue of disbursement of funds for the election. He stressed that funds were always late for disbursement for elections, so they wanted early disbursement so that they could deliver. While another speaker from another state said they were happy for the meeting because it would foster peace among the southwest PDP members and that they could move on easily. A speaker from Oyo State laid emphasis on use of the media and said the party should go more on the media attack on the opposition party (APC). He mentioned that effective use of the media was the weapon being used by APC. Gov. Mimiko now stated that they made findings of who were the owners of some dailies and that it was discovered that those media outfits did not belong to members of the APC, and thus PDP could equally hijack the media. A speaker from Osun State that he had told Gov. Mimiko to help them tell the President to use his power and office to quash Ogbeni Aregbesola before the general elections, so that PDP could produce more votes for the President and that the idea of fighting Gov. Aregbesola would be by going to the Court of Appeal which he said could be influenced to remove Aregbesola. So, he urged the honourable leaders of our amiable party to look into the issue of Osun State. Discussions now moved on to the strategy that would be used for winning the presidential election; • Delegates present at the meeting discussed more on campaign that they should do less of rallies, instead, they should embark on full campaign with propaganda that would tarnish the image of APC presidential candidate, Gen. Buhari. And part of what should be used use to campaign against Gen. Buhari in Lagos is that he was the one who stopped the Railway metro project of Lagos State 30 years ago, and that instead of Buhari completing the project, he paid the penalty for breaching the contract of the railway metro line project. • Delegates present laid serious emphasis on using the media to dent the image of the presidential candidate of APC. Some delegates maintained that the change that the emperor of Bourdillon wanted to change Nig. democracy to totalitarian dictatorship. Members stated that when PDP had no State in the South-west, the President got good votes from the South-west and now that the party has two States, it would be able to win all the other States if the two States in its kitty are well utilised. Senator Omisore said in his speech that propaganda of any form shoule be utilised and that all efforts should be mobilized to win the Presidency as without the presidency the party is nothing. In the speech of Mr. Ayo Fayose, he said propaganda would only waste time and that attack is the best from of defence. He maintained that the party in general and the South-west PDP needed to be valiant to face the Tinubus anywhere they are. He further said we have the control of police and the army and “I CAN NOT AFFORD TO LOSE MY CONTROL ON POLICE AND THE ARMY” and without Jonathan being the president we will lose the control. Further, he said the presidential election is a do or die affair but Gov. Mimiko quickly countered that it should not be a do or die affair but rather a do-and-win affair. Governor Fayose later said they should forget about all governorship elections and concentrate on the presidential election, that once President Jonathan returns, we could be declaring the governorship candidates of PDP in various States as they like, meaning that the Presidential election is very paramount. As the meeting progressed, leaders at the meeting put Oyo State in focus and maintained that PDP could get more votes for the president there by begging both Chief Alao Akala and Chief Rasheed Ladoja to align their parties with the PDP since they have no presidential aspirant and there is every need to throw out Ajimobi, Amosun with using militant thugs loyal to PDP. Mr. Kolapo Ogunjobi representing Otunba Gbenga Daniel said they PDP on ground in Ijebu side of Ogun State and they were grassrooters and that they could deliver with good resources. Sen. Musilu Obanikoro in his own speech said 3 days after he lost the PDP primary election, that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu came to him in private which he said was quite unusual of him. He said Tinubu asked him how much he had spent and that he was ready to give him 2 billion Naira and a senatorial seat from APC in Lagos State. He said he refused the offer and stressed that they could just imagine how smart and clever Asiwaju is. He further stated that Cardinal James Odunmbaku (Baba Eto) was almost at the concluding part of decamping to PDP and that even he had even concluded with the presidency in Aso Rock before Asiwaju hijacked him back with the position of Director- General of Campaign of Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode. He said they could see that Tinubu is the smart type. Senator Obanikoro further said he was the only person that could match Bola Ahmed Tinubu because he said he knew his tactics. He further emphasized that with cash in his hand, Tinubu is nobody. While Governor Fayose intervened by saying that there was nothing special in Lagos and that he normally visited markets in Lagos every weekend and before the people in the market would recognize him, they would have said so many things in his presence that they won’t know. Govenor Fayose further said he was coming to Lagos to teach people the market approach to sensitizing the people on the need to support PDP and dump APC. After all this, the communiqué prepared sequel to which the press was allowed entry into the place for a brief coverage before they were dispersed again. At the end, they set up various committees on such areas as: • SECURITY • TRADITIONAL • CONTACTS • INEC etc. Committee on contacts will meet important personalities to canvass them, they mention people like Jimoh Ibrahim in Ondo, the Ogun people mentioned Sen. Anthony Adefuye as part of the personalities to be visited, and many other personalities. Committee on INEC would monitor various INEC commissioners in various south-west states and try as much as possible to lure them with money to compromise in favour of our great party. Committee on traditional rulers would meet up all Obas in the southwest for consultation on the presidential election and use financial gratification to lure them as many of them really need stomach infrastructure, according to Governor Fayose. Governor Mimiko maintained that many of those Obas are actually hungry and with good amount of money they could get them to support PDP Committee on security is saddled with the responsibility to work with the police and the army. Leaders of the party further tasked the students at both the National (NANS) and southwest level, state level to monitor various institutions, polling booths and make sure that the election would go in favour of Jonathan. It was also observed that the National body of student (NANS) submitted a proposal for a youth conference that will hold in FUTA in January where the South-west students would adopt Jonathan as their presidential candidate. Some leaders also talked about APC’s strategy of deploying 10 persons per polling booth and that they were aware of it and stated that all leaders should task themselves to use councilors in all their various booths. Lastly, the South-west coordinator said the next meeting that would hold in Ibadan which would involve fund- raising for the presidential election from stakeholders of the PDP south- west and the meeting would be used to shake Oyo once again urging that the Governorship aspirant of PDP to be prepared. The meeting ended with closing prayer from a delegate from Ondo State. SOURCE: SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK READ MORE: |
