abnot:You’re argument is fraught with untruths. First off: yes, the F-1 is valid for two years. But what if she’s been in the US for longer? You can be on F-2 for as long as 10years. Bachelors, masters, PhD. I personally know people who’ve been on F visas for 6 years. Two: hers is not the first case of a grandmother wanting to take care of her grandchild. It’s not gonna be the last. I know a woman who’s been coming to the US consistently on a B visa to take care of her grandkids since 2014. Spends 5months here and goes back. The child that got her the visa was and is still on an F-1 visa. She’s getting a PhD. And FYI, American Grandmoms also take care of their kids who just had babies. Tho not as much as the Africans but it’s not a concept that’s unheard of. Three: switching from an F-1 to a green card is not a crime. If it was, lots of F-1 students would not be able to have their families visiting. Wait, you think marrying a US citizen is the only way for an F-1 visa holder to get a green card? Their company could petition a green card for them. Intel does it, Apple does it. And it’s not that hard to get jobs at those places. They can even petition for a green card by themselves. It’s possible. There are tons of ways to change from an F visa to a green card. So far she didn’t violate the terms of her F visa, she’s done nothing wrong. 6 Likes |

Kentrasso:It will be better for him to apply for an H-4 visa for you, after y’all get married. It’s a derivative visa for spouses of H1B visas. Much like the F-2 is a derivative of F-1visa. It’s better than a normal B1/B2 visa because they don’t have they 6months maximum stay regulations and some circumstances H-4 visa holders are able to get work permits to work and even go to school. |

rhukkie:Yes. Use it for her pap, cereal and other stuff. My son never liked formula anyways. I tried to use it for his cereal at 6 months and he gagged on two different occasions. So I stopped. I used breastmilk all through till he was 15months. So far the milk is properly frozen, you’re good to use it. I even put it in his bottle to use during the day while I’m at work. I pump at work and freeze when I get home. I used milk bags to store mine and wrote the dates pumped on the bags. That way I started using the ones that are oldest and kept the newer ones. Just thaw it properly and you’re good to go. 6 Likes |

forzarush:Throw it away? Why? It’s not as if the milk is bad or rancid. So far it’s stored in a deep freezer with constant electricity. Nothing wrong it using stored breastmilk. Matter of fact, I used it for a year for my son as I had overproduction. Maybe it’s me, but I can’t use clear eye to throw milk away oo. I dumped about 12ounces one time and I felt so uncomfortable Throwing away 200+ounces?? Na to cry all day long. Lol. 1 Like |

Adebuble:Honestly, I’m not sure about that. They usually go based on the tax returns or pay stubs and stuff. And you have to keep renewing the Medicaid every year anyways.. so you need to give them current pay stub or the year’s tax return transcripts. You can probably file for that year but you won’t be able to renew it the next year. |

Lmao. Congrats to both your sister and your mom in law. Good for them. But wait o, how do you know what I do? cos I’m here on Nairaland? if y’all are so monied, tell them to bail you out and not resort to public assistance. And yes, it’s my hard earned money and sweat. Even if I was working in the fields picking fruit for minimum wage under the scorching sun and it’s a dollar or even a cent taken out of my paycheck as taxes, it’s still my goddamned money. I worked for it, so don’t come here acting all high and mighty, talmbout how your family is Dangote, Otedola and Buffet rolled into one. You asked a question, we answered. Now you’re getting your panties in a bunch. You’ll be alright. Go and pay your bills, or take the Medicaid (that was your intent all along anyways) Ma’am. And FYI: Medicaid is not “to help people who at that moment CANNOT NOT WILL NOT afford to pay their medical bills”. It is to “provide health coverage for some low-income people, families and children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities. In some states the program covers all low-income adults below a certain income level.” All of whom must be LEGAL RESIDENTS. 15 Likes |

happney65:The child has to qualify for Medicare through his:her parent or guardian. That’s the way it works. The child doesn’t have any income and the parents do not make any income in the US which taxes them into the system. So no, they’re not qualified. That they paid thousands of dollars to birth was a choice. They chose to do that. The thousands of dollars the parents paid was payment for services rendered.....aka healthcare and childbirth. We also pay for childbirth depending on if you have insurance or not, what kind of insurance you have, your insurance deductible, co-pay and all that. Those bills cold run you about $3000-$4000. This is despite the insurance premiums paid monthly. You also have to pay your OB too o. Most insurance cover 90% of your costs. You’re responsible for the remaining 10%. And yes, if the child decides to come to the US later in life to go to college, they will probably not qualify for financial aid. Student loans yes, financial aid no. Why? Financial aid is need based. You have to submit your parents (both parents) paystubs and other supporting documents to qualify for financial aid. Once they see that your parents make money outside the shores of the country and do not pay tax or reside here, no financial aid. Student loan, yes you can and will qualify for that. They only need a social security number. It’s a loan and you have to pay it back with interest after you graduate. Financial aid doesn’t need to be paid back. The only other alternative is for parents to pay out of pocket. To save the kids from student loans cos student loan is an headache. Even at that, for the first one or two years, the child will pay out of state fees for any college he/she is going to because they don’t reside in the US. They just came back from college. Most people find ways to become state residents after the second year I believe. Sadly, there’s lots of loopholes around. 10 Likes 4 Shares |

covbrand:You’re the one who’s been on the defensive. All of the people that answered you previously said nothing wrong. Because your child was born in the US a while back still doesn’t qualify him/her for Medicaid. Do you work in the US? Do you pay taxes? Does your husband does any of both? It not, then no, you or any of your offsprings are not eligible for free medical care. Where do you think the money that Medicaid disburses to the hospital comes from? The government? No, it comes from tax payers like me. We don’t even have a say in it, whether we want to be taxed for Medicaid or not... they tax our pay regardless of if we like it or not. 35% of my salary goes to different state, federal and county taxes. The annoying part is that despite being taxed for Medicaid, I can’t use the service. Reason? My family makes to much to qualify for it as it’s for low income families and families that live below the accepted poverty line. And someone will now come and claim US citizen child and eat my hard earned sweat? Does that even sound fair? And yes, Justwise was right, accepting Medicaid will jeopardize your chances of renewing your visa. This is the era of looking for the most flimsiest excuses to deny people visas. 14 Likes 2 Shares |
Health / Re: Trying To Conceive A Child? TTC by MamaOO: 6:44am On Jul 19, 2018 |
GraceOverflow:Hi. Not TTC but I stop by here to read and learn. I live in the states tho. First off, do you have insurance? If yes, what kind? If it’s PPO (regardless of the company) I will suggest you read reviews online, ask questions from people living around you and chose an OBGYN. Call their office and ask questions and possibly make an appointment to go in and see an OB If it’s EPO, HMO or Medicaid, you will need to go through a PCP (Primary Care Physician) or your insurance can refer you to one. But you have to have someone refer you. Let me warn you though, most insurance plans do not cover fertility treatments or fertility speacialists. If you do see one or need one, it might be an out of pocket cost. I had an HSG done in 2015 before I got pregnant with my son (overzealousness cos I had just been trying for 4-5 months I believe). The medical assistants told me it was covered when I’m actually fact it wasn’t. lol my story short, I had the pay about $2,400 out of pocket because I didn’t want them to turn it over into collections and get on my credit record. Last, I will suggest you start tracking your cycle and ovulating. I use OPKs and I also temp. Temping is very accurate for me. I know exactly when I ovulate and how to time baby dance. There’s a ton of resources online about it but yes u have to take time and read it and understand as it can get very confusing. Get a basal temperature online on amazon or at Walmart. You got mine for $6 at Walmart I believe. You can also get it at Target, CVS, RiteAid and Walgreens. Pretty much all the drugstores. Get those cheap OPKs on amazon. I usually get the 50 pack. It’s like $18 or so on amazon. It might even be cheaper on eBay. Combining both gets me on top of my cycle and I understand to a T. You might also need really download some tracking by apps. I especially like Kindara because the charts on there look great and it also has its own community built into the app where you can post your chart and ask questions, and also Fertility Friend because of the smart predictions. Someone also mentioned SMEP. I can testify to it’s efficacy. 100%. Read up in it and try it. SMEP works in conjunction with OPKs tho. I use SMEP, OPK and BBT charting. Sounds like a lot of work but not really. I just like the be in charge and in the know. Relax, may it go well for you. Feel free to ask more questions as needed. 5 Likes |

nneejima:Probably for UNIZIK ma, but Lautech PD is located inside the school itself (their complex is beside the Under-G gate) before they built them the 1500 capacity lecture theatre far inside school, the program is conducted by Lautech and a lot of them actually get admitted. It was called Pre-Degree. This was before post UTME became a thing, so they did not even have to take JAMB. I'll say 70% of my friends did pre-degree to gain admission sef. |
Health / Re: Trying To Conceive A Child? TTC by MamaOO: 12:27am On Jul 13, 2018 |
nneejima:Nope. She’s right. I graduated from Lautech and I am 1000% sure Lautech has a pre-degree program that accepts into 100L for ALL courses including MEDICINE. Infact, most of the medicine class consisted of people that did predegree. I had lots of friends who studied medicine as my roommate in school was a medical student. Even their best graduating student came in through pre-degree. I wanted to chip that in since but I didn’t want to be seen as supporting that quack doctor. And btw: I don’t know which part of Nigeria you’re from. But, the pre-degree I know (Lautech) is not meant to prepare people for university education, it’s is meant to be a another avenue into getting into universities for those who can’t pass JAMB for some reasons. You do a one year per-degree in Lautech and then at the end of the one year, you take a really comprehensive exam. You have a choice of two courses to chose and you’re assigned your courses based on your final pre-degree scores. The people who don’t make the cut for their courses are given any course that they can lay hands on, unless they fail really woefully and then they are denied admission. Lautech pre-degree even has an entrance exam, FYI. I took the entrance and failed. The irony was that I actually passed JAMB that same year and eventually my friends who had taken the exams with me and passed eventually were a year behind me then. Just letting you know. A lot of places won’t even interview you if they know you’re on a F1 visa. And the F2? Very useless visa. You can’t work, can’t do nothing. I know a couple, wife came in on a F1. Husband came on F2. 5 months later, they divorced and both claimed to marry other people and filed for AOS at the same time! When I heard, I just laughed. USCIS is stupid abi? Gracie2000:Wait o, so the divorce has been dragging on for 7years? Or you guys got together while he was still legally married in the US? For papers? (Pardon me if that’s not the case Abeg o). It’s just so weird that you’ve been with someone for 7years and have two kids while he’s not even divorced yet. Yes, you can apply for the visa. But the questions I asked might be questions that pop up during the visa interview. And if the VO continues probing and gets to know that your baby daddy had kids with you while still married, it might lead to questions about how he got his citizenship and all that wahala and investigation. Best bet is for you to wait until he gets his divorce and then he files for a green card for you. That way, you save him and yourself from unnecessary USCIS scrutiny and wahala. It shouldn’t take more than a year for the divorce to be final (6 in a lot of states and a year to two to file for a green card). All the best. 2 Likes |

Kween2014:It’s not incorrect. Once you try to book an appointment, the portal asks you if you’ve been denied a visa previously in the last 6 months. If you click yes, it doesn’t give you an interview date (it blanks out the dates). And it’s also stated there that if you lie about your refusal, you will get denied at the interview for misrepresentation. 4 Likes |
