Watch A Heart-breaking Account Of Police Brutality In Nigeria.

As graphic as it is gruesome, this is the real-life experience of a man whose wife became the victim of unspeakable violence from those assigned to protect her - the police. PoliticsFor Fourth Time In 4 Years, IGPs Ban SARS by MANDIPUTIN(op): 9:43am On Oct 05, 2020
FOR the fourth time in four years, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, on Sunday, announced the ban of the personnel of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) from carrying out routine patrols, stop and search duties, mounting of roadblocks, traffic checks.

In a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, the IGP announced not just the ban of FSARS, but also other tactical squads of the force, including the Special Tactical Squad, Intelligence Response Team, Anti-Cultism Squad and others operating at the federal, zonal and command levels with immediate effect.

Furthermore, Adamu added that no personnel of the force was authorised to embark on patrols or tactical assignments in mufti, stressing that officers must always appear in their police uniforms or approved tactical gear.

Specifically, the IGP has warned the tactical squads against the invasion of the privacy of citizens, particularly through the indiscriminate and unauthorised search of mobile phones, laptops and other smart devices, urging them to concentrate and respond only to cases of armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes when the need arises.

Like other times, the announcement of a ban of the FSARS from routine patrols and other conventional duties comes on the heels of the outcry of Nigerians on various social media handles about incessant killings, brutality, harassment of youths and various abuses of human rights.

In what has become a yearly ritual, it will be recalled that the IGP had, in December 2017, June 2018, January 2019 and in February this year, made related announcements of a ban of SARS and an immediate restructuring of the outfit.

While announcing a ban of SARS from conducting stop and search operations in December 2017, the former IGP, Ibrahim Idris, also promised to restructure and reposition the unit for effective service delivery.

The then IGP’s order in June 2018 was a ban on SARS from conducting stop and search operations on roads, followed by another order in August 2018 for an immediate overhauling of SARS in compliance with a directive by then acting president, Yemi Osinbajo.

In addition, the IGP ordered an immediate medical and psychological evaluation of all SARS officers and instant investigation into allegations, complaints and infractions levelled against personnel of SARS across the country by the IGP X-Squad of the force.

In January 2019, the current IGP disbanded the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS and ordered state police commissioners to command the squads in their locations.

That same 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari had directed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ministry of Justice and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to work out modalities for the implementation of the report of the Presidential Panel on the Reform of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) within three months.

Among others, the panel had recommended the establishment of state and local government police and the renaming of SARS to Anti-Robbery Section (ARS), which was its original name and to make the section operate under the intelligence arm of the police.

Following the death of a player of Remo Stars Football club, Tiamiyu Kazeem, in February this year, allegedly caused by operatives of ZIS SARS, Obada-Oko, Abeokuta, the IGP had announced the disbandment of SARS offices nationwide.

Prior the IGP’s announcement of a ban of FSARS from routine patrols, on Sunday, Nigerians had trended the hashtag #ENDSARS for about 48 hours, with photos, videos, tweets, posts, calling for an end to SARS in Nigeria.

Throughout Saturday, Nigerians also trended a SARS watch giving reports of where SARS officials were stationed in their various areas.

However, Nigerians were cautious in their commendation of the latest ban of SARS, noting that the announcement may be another routine one without implementation.

Beyond the ban on SARS, television host, Uti Nwachukwu, @SirUTI, demanded what the Nigerian government was doing to reform and restructure the Nigeria Police.

Tweeting @officialnairam1, a Nigerian musician, Azeez Fashola and popularly known as Naira Marley, warned Nigerians against vandalism to express their grouse.

Nigerian pop star, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, on Sunday, joined the #EndSARS campaign by calling on President Buhari to protect Nigerians.

Responding to a tweet by Buhari wishing American President, Donald Trump, fast recovery from Coronavirus, Wizkid urged the president to focus more on issues affecting the country and its youths rather than matters that concern America.

“Donald Trump is not your business! Old man! Police/SARS still killing Nigerian youths on a daily! Do something! Nothing concern u for America! Face your country,” Wizkid wrote.

On his part, Senior Pastor, Daystar Christian Centre, Sam Adeyemi, stressed the need for all police units and public officials to have a value system that treats citizens with dignity.

Aside from restructuring SARS, Adeyemi noted that the nation needed a restructuring where public officials use power to serve citizens, not to intimidate and exploit them.

In his own series of tweets, known activist, Reno Omokri, tweeting @renoomokri, called for an end to SARS rather than a reformation.

Making reference to repeated ban of SARS, a personal development coach, Dipo Awojide, simply described the latest ban as “Rinse, Edit and Repeat.”

Lending his voice to the agitation, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State expressed worry at the reports of exploitation of Nigerians, assuring of taking appropriate actions to end the trend.

“The safety of our residents is my number one duty as the CSO of Lagos.”

Today, Buhari justified his oil price surge by citing Saudi which charges N168 and said “It makes no sense for oil to be cheaper in Nigeria than in Saudi Arabia.”

But he forgot to mention that the minimum wage in Saudi is R3,000 which is N305,126.

Pay N305,126. We’ll pay N168.

Politics4 Reasons Why It’s Stupid To Compare Nigeria’s Petrol Prices Wit Other Counties by MANDIPUTIN(op): 5:52pm On Sep 08, 2020
By Farooq Kperogi.

In trying to justify Buhari's latest callous hike in the price of petrol (amid a pandemic, no less), Buhari’s supporters increasingly sound like noisome idiots straining hard to be low-grade morons. Here are 4 reasons it’s stupid to compare Nigeria’s petrol prices with others:

1. Nigeria is the undisputed poverty capital of the world, thanks entirely to Buhari’s inept “leadership.” That means, on average, most countries on earth have a higher standard of living than Nigeria.
With a $77 per month minimum wage, Nigeria has one of the lowest minimum wages in the world. In other words, everyday Nigerians are worse off than most people in the world and don’t have the same economic vitality as citizens of other countries.

2. Nigeria is an oil-producing country. It’s unreasonable to deny Nigerians the expectation of cheaper prices for petrol. It’s like asking people to hold cream on their hands while their faces and bodies are dry. That’s cruelty. Most Nigerians would be at peace with high petrol prices if their country doesn’t produce oil.
A wealthy parent who starves his children and justifies his cruelty by pointing to the starvation of the children of his poor neighbors is an irresponsible parent who doesn’t deserve his children.
Buhari and his gang of buccaneers are irresponsible to invoke the petrol prices in neighboring African countries (that are not oil producers) as a justification for increasing domestic petrol prices.

3. Oil is the engine of the Nigerian economy in ways it is not elsewhere. When the price of petrol goes up in Nigeria, everything else goes up—except, of course, the already measly salaries of everyday people. This is not the case in many countries.
In the US, Benin Republic, even Saudi Arabia, etc., fluctuations in the price of petrol doesn’t automatically activate across-the-board inflation. So you can’t just arbitrarily jack up petrol prices and ignore its other unsettling effects on other facets of the Nigerian society.

4. A way bigger waste than the “waste” of petrol “subsidy” that people aren’t talking about is the extortionate amounts Nigeria expends to subsidize the obscene opulence of its political elite—from the president down to a ward councilor.

If the subsidies that finance the luxuries of the political class (such as billions budgeted to buy new cars in the presidency every year) are directed towards everyday Nigerians, Nigeria can afford way cheaper petrol than it currently does.

PoliticsMiddle Belt Youths Apologise For Civil War Action Against Biafra by MANDIPUTIN(op): 8:04pm On Sep 04, 2020
A group, the Middle Belt Youth Council, has apologised to the Igbo nation over the role residents of the region played against Biafra during the 30-month civil war and pleaded for forgiveness.

A delegation of the group, led by its president, Mr Emmanuel Zopman, made this apology during a courtesy visit to the founder and leader of Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, in Owerri, Imo state, last Sunday.

Zopman, who was received at the Ojukwu Memorial Auditorium, (Freedom House) Owerri, said: “as we are here, we represent the entire middle belt leaders. Whoever and whatever capacity you can imagine from the Middle Belt, is ably represented here”.

“It is our delight to say to Ndigbo, that by value of our common existence, we are brothers and should live in peace and have cordial relationship. Both of us here know that Ndigbo and Middle Belt have a common boundary (in) between Kogi and Benue states”.

“We respect Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, because he has liberated Ndigbo worldwide and it is our joy that Ndigbo have someone who is fearless, strategic and calculative for their liberation. That is why, today, Ndigbo will not be what others want them to be but they will be what they want to be”.

“In this respect, we feel we have to give him this honour to come here to share our thoughts with him because he is the emblem and the face of the liberation of the Biafrans as it is today. So, we are here today to appeal to the Igbo nation that the Middle Belt people are not your enemies anymore. This is our appeal.”

“And in this regard, we also want Ndigbo worldwide to take the Middle Belt people as their friends and brothers forever”.

Zopman expressed worry over the present insecurity in the country which he attributed to the Fulani herdsmen and called for a united force between the Igbo and Middle Beltans to fight the menace.

His words, “the insecurity ravaging the country is a deliberate plan to take over our land and displace people from their ancestral homes,” adding that, “the united force will never allow that to happen as the land was given by God to our ancestors to protect and be buried there.”

“Therefore, we have to form a united force to ensure we protect the ancestral home that God gave our forefathers and they gave it to us which they were buried on and we shall not allow that to be taken away by foreigners,” he said.

“As a collective force, if we stand by one common goal to ensure that we achieve the protection of our land and ensure that our people are free and we will surely achieve that.”

He expressed optimism that with Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, the Middle Belt and Biafra will be liberated and their land will be protected.

In his response, Chief Uwazuruike, applauded his august visitors for their historic visit, claiming that “Biafra is now a nation with all organs of government perfectly put in place.”

“We thank you for this visit; at least to come and tell us sorry for what happened during the 1967-1970 Civil war. We tell you that we are sorry too and we have accepted you as our own. The past remains in the past and it’s gone forever; we shall face the future together.”

He promised the delegation that, “our people all over the world will hear of this visit. It is the beginning of a new day.”
