I may sound like an old school, but abbreviations should be discouraged on this thread. Teachers affect eternity, we can never tell where our influence may reach.

Abbreviations can be a red flag that may prevent an employer to invite one for an interview.

Evathyst: Though I'm a fresh graduate as d situation truly is, bt dt I'm inexperienced is farther from d truth. Lyk I said, av got abt 7 cumulative years of teaching experience in abt 3 diff states. I love your drive and can do spirit, just that schools and employers who know their onions lay emphasis on verifiable post graduation experience.

Evathyst: U'r offer is quite tempting, bt my only concern is accommodation issues. Can't accept any job in which I av to spend a substantial amount on transport. Settle d accommodation issue nd I'm all urs. As regards my competency, it's unparalleled. Take my words! Tnx 4d response anyways.
Accommodation is provided by very few employers of labour in Lagos, but schools in Ikorodu, Epe, Badagry and other satellite towns do provide accommodation for the their teachers.

Investment › Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by manie(m): 1:32pm On Dec 06, 2013
Elai147: Thanks jare for the info... So why should an investor go through these companies (and pay extra commission charge) when he/she can buy directly from banks and discount houses? Are these bills actually purchased in the investors name or the company's name? Also, who credits investors account at maturity- the stockbrokers or the bank they use? If investors accounts are credited by the stockbroking firms then it is possible the bills were actually bought in the company's name and not the investor's name. If this is true, it is the stockbroking firms that are actually covered by FG/CBN's guarantee on TBills, not the investors. So if these companies go bankrupt what happens to investors capital? Because I don't understand why a company that is not a marketer of Tbills will be posing as middleman or agent and investors will be purchasing Tbills via these companies. This is just a "what if" scenario as I only buy my Tbills through banks. Perhaps those that buy through stockbroking firms can clarify me on the above issue.
I always get TB reports from Meristem

Issue on Offer/Summary

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) Treasury Bills (TB) Primary Auction is scheduled to hold on 04 Dec, 2013. The sum of N124.297bn worth of T-bills will mature on Thursday 5 Dec,

2013 while the same amount will be issued in 91-day, 182-day and 364-day instruments. The CBN is expected to auction a total of NGN22.971bn in 91-day, NGN30.00bn in 182-day and

NGN71.3260bn in 364-day instruments.

Outlook on Yields /Advised Stop Rates

We analyse the current yield environment in light of the outcome of the previous auctions on the respective instruments. In our view, the yields on short term instruments particularly on the

91-day has trended upward by 0.50% (current yield is 11.94%) since the last auction while 182-day and 364-day instruments have been relatively stable at respective current yields of

12.19% and 13.08%.

We considered the current calm market mood as likely factors to determine the level of liquidity in the system. Hence, we see the stop rate still maintaining the usual spread compared to

yields.

Based on the level of liquidity in the system, investors' attraction for T-bills and macro-economic data outlook, we advise the following stop rates for the respective instruments as listed

below. We are of the view that liquidity in the system currently suggests the offer will most likely fill through.

91-Day NGN22.971bn 10.50%

182-Day NGN30.000bn 11.40%

364-Day NGN71.326bn 11.60%

Investing through Meristem Wealth Management Limited

Meristem Wealth Management Limited charges a transaction fee of 0.125% of the principal amount invested, and there will be three (3) days prior notification before

maturity for all Treasury bills investments. The income from investing in T bills is tax free, so interest received is not subject to withholding tax, and you will receive an immediate

Investment confirmation letter for the Treasury bills. Also note that the T-bill certificates can be used as collateral for securing loans.

Yeah!

I bought shares of Transcorp and I am left holding an empty bag.

Stock market works until the bubble bursts...then the market proves to the so-called experts that

the only survivors are the ones that got out early enough and those with deeper pockets.

The stock market is like a house....takes years to build but weeks to destroy.

It pumps up investors' egos for years and then demolish the ego in months.

In USA, a lot of losers end up jumping off the Golden Gates bridge in San Francisco...Atta boy!

Or as is obtainable in Nigeria, your broker may end up dancing skelewu with your shares certificates.

Then you are screwed!

If I may ask what was the track record of Transcorp when you invested in 2005 or thereabout, how did the promoters arrived at the PP prices and the IPO price.
Only the uninformed will buy a new company with no real asset in place, but just the reputation of the promoter at an outrageous price of about N7.50. I never took part in PP madness of 2005 to 2007.

Education › Re: No-work-no-pay Rule May Escalate ASUU Crisis by manie(m): 12:14pm On Oct 31, 2013
Youngzedd: Asaba – The DeltaStateUniversity Chapterof the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Wednesday warned that implementing the No-Work-No-Pay policy would worsenthe industrial crisis in public universities.
The Chairman ofthe chapter, DrEmmanuel Mordi, said in Asaba that the stategovernment was planning to implement thepolicy for the first time.
NAN reports that the stateGovernor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, had urged ASUU membersto return to classroom or face implementation ofthe policy.
“When the strike is called off, lecturers will say: `No pay, no work’. It does not help anybody; it can only escalate thecrisis.
“It is unfortunate that ASUU is at the receiving end, as the government, being stronger, has the power towithhold ASUUmembers’ salaries, he said.
He said that ASUU was willing to call off the strike and would do so as soon as theFederal Governmentshowedmore commitment.
“We are anxious tocall off the strike, but the governmentsaid we should wait for somany months.
“What we must note is that our studentsare also our children. Some lecturersare also students;so, this is a very painful surgical operation, which we have to carry out in the bestinterestofour futuregeneration.”
Also theAdamawa chapter of theChristian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Wednesday said thelingering strike by university teachers in the country could destroythe nation’s tertiary education.
The Chairman ofthe association, Rev. Moses Taparki, in an interview in Yola, expressed displeasure over the inability of theFederal Governmentand theAcademic StaffUnion of Universities (ASUU) toresolve the issues.
Describing the situation as “unfortunate”, he said it had lingered in spite of appeals and interventions by groups and individuals, and blamed the governmentand the union for their seeming “insensitivity” to theissue.
The cleric said the damage thestrike had done to the university systemin thecountry in the past fourmonths would take several years to redress.
“The governmentand ASUUshould take responsibility for the sad development. Many groups and individuals, including religious leaders and traditional rulers, have appealed to them but all have been in vain,” hesaid.
“For the rigid positions thegovernmentand the university teachershave maintained on the matter, I maintain that both partiesmust take full responsibility for thedamage the strike has done to thesystem,” he stressed.

2ndChance: May be you guys don't know but in the part of the country where my wife and I come from, this thrend is very common among married women. They either wait to buid their houses without the husband's knowledge or immediately the man completes a house, they eliminate him and start answering "Landlady". I may say am luckier than most men who have owned houses from that part of the country because most of them don't usually live to open the houses they built (sic). That is where I am really worried because I don't have the full script that my wife, her mother and the Priest are playing. The Priest may have acted innocently but I can't be too sure of my wife and her mother here.
You know all these and still decided to marry someone from that part of the country. You also decided to own joint asset with a woman from that part of the country, when you know she can kill you in order to become the sole owner of the assets you both own.

Gone are the days when a man will want to assume the role of the sole provider for the family, once you have a wife who is working she must contribute her own quota to the finance of the home.

Some men will not want their wives to contribute a kobo even-though their wives earn money, I believe i women liberation, independence, I also believe in the financial contribution of woman in the house.
