jp philips: personally, i don't see any problem, the OP is simply paranoid, im glad you admitted a lot of men have failed their families, a married man will be outside his matrimonial home by 2:00am drinking beer with bachelors and manchelors, arguing stupid soccer while oogling all the hotties around (not the case with the OP), yet, they have a family at home, are they the kinda husbands their wives do things without consulting them?He should go back to the basics, something must be fundamentally wrong for the wife not to have consulted her. A close relative ( a cousin of mine) is having similar problem, she is building her second house without informing the husband. The houses are at Ikorodu and Badagry. She told her husband when she bought a land at Ajah in 2002, the husband compelled her to sell the land and they used the money to buy a car. The man said if my cousin wants to continue answering Mrs .w....i.a, she must sell the land. Her pastor told her to obey her husband. This is a man that is still living in a rented apartment earning about N6 million per annum, but believes he will hit a jackpot that will enable him buy a house of 100 million in his choice area of Lagos. |
Pattey: Must you think upside down? How is that equivalent to her actually building it up from scratch? Besides, what you own b4 marriage doesn't count! What counts is from the moment you chose to live together as one!My wife and I operate both joint and personal accounts and assets. We are just building our joint house, and both of us contribute to the project since we both work. My wife inherited a house, meaning she has a house before me. This prompted me to work harder in order to build my own personal houses. We both contribute for the house upkeep, expenses, vacation, education, investment in shares, and then you are free to also have your personal investments. I am not recommending this model to anybody, but this model worked for my family. |
obadiah777: it would be obvious. anyway the point is that what the guys wife did is not new. many nigerian women do this behind their husbands back. any nigerian woman who hasnt done it is because she is either a holy woman or if she is not holy, its cuz she hasnt hammered yet. but trust me when i say any woman with means will do it. variety is the spice of life. when women have been nacking the same kondo for over a year it gets boring and predictable. so they start fantasizing about divorce and getting another mans kondo. then they start fantasizing about having their own place in case they decide to run away. thats why they do it.Have you heard the case of a lady in Lagos, who built a house but was living in a rented house with her husband. When they were given quit notice in there rented apartment, the husband got another apartment in a different part of Lagos. The family that is the husband, wife and children packed into this new house paying rent to the estate management company in charge of the years for 5 years. It was when the woman had a quarrel with the husband, and the man told her to live the house that she made the husband know that the property belonged to her and she will instruct her estate manager to give the man quit notice. |
2ndChance: At 34, I already owned storey buildings and bungalows from my sweat and you are here doubting if I owned building or not 5 yrs after. I leave you to keep guessing. That is the least of my problem now. That is good, you should be very happy that you are blessed with a proactive and forward looking wife. but you need to find out why she did not inform. My wife informed me of her willingness to build a house, because she knew i will give her my 100% support. |
@ OP, if your wife inherited a house from her father or mother what will you ask her to do with the property. Will you tell to keep it or sell the property? |
I have a big smile on my face as I write this,I'll usually read amused and move on but I feel compelled to write this for the sake of any unfortunate people pleasing Nigerian woman out there reading this..... Have your own assests completely seperate from your husbands.Either you do it with his permission or not is completely @ ur discretion but be sure it happens. If he's the bullying type hide it well beneath layers of legal paperwork and shadow names and procedures Its the same Nigeria that the properties that's supposed to belong to the mans family in his absence gets shared by the inlaws,or the happens a lot scenario where he can kicks his wife out for the most flimsy reasons,or when she's 50 for a younger option, and my personal favourite where the guy can marry a 2nd or 3rd wife to..... Share or simply take over all you've saved, sacrificed and suffered so hard to aquire. if you're not working, use his money,if you're working, use yours. If you agree to what's mine is yours and what is yours is mine, then make sure the legal papers do not bear mr and mrs xyz but mr george and mrs rose xyz.anybody can be mrs xyz only u can be mrs rose xyz u get?.Take a cue from the supposedly rich and powerful bianca still having to fight inlaws despite a will and all, aderinokun of gtb with the wife putting up the fight with "the others"a word for the wise Lastly If we all stopped been hypocrites and stand to address the ills in our soceity, then no one should really begrudge a woman having her own assets,if she hides it from an unapproving husband and gets "caught" all the shouts of send her out butresses the very need for their seperating investments. My point,a true man should know in truth, his wifes money is her money and what she does with, her bussiness so long as the family is safe and fed which is his duty.[/quote Supported. |
It is very obvious that the OP does not have a house of his own. If your wife told you that she wanted to build a house, will you approve and support your wife. I assisted my wife with negotiation for building materials and workmanship when she was building her house, the financial independence of wife was the driving force that catalyzed me to succeed more than my wife even though when we first got married the rental income she was generating from the house she inherited from her late mother was more than my annual salary. |
king100: Do not send her out.But do not ever trust her any more. Some women are so callous to the extent that they can do anything to hurt you.The reason being that they are weak-minded species, they do not think deeply before doing anything, they are more emotional than being logical. All the children she has for you, may not all be yours. If a woman have children for you and have been in a marriage for many years, she can still poison you.I read recently a married pregnant woman having a sexual relationship with her in an hotel. How do you explain that. The lady is financially buoyant and independent, sending her out is not the solution but you have succeeded in giving her license to be completely free. I have 3 houses and my wife has her own house plus another one which she inherited from her mother, i do not see any big deal in a woman having her personal assets. |

manie: Sow a seed into the life of any genuine man of God, and you will come here before the end of 2013 to share your testimony. No mind me, just pulling your legs. My friend try and invest in your financial education, and do not chase extra-ordinary return on your investment except you have the knowledge and temperament to cope with the stress and uncertainty involved in getting a 100% legal return on investment in 12 months. |

Reference: Are you a professional wrestler or footballer because I donot understand this concept of retirement. Retirement from what, from who, from where. Is the person terminally ill or what.I am sure you have heard of leaving the stage when the ovation is loudest, my father retired when he was 47 years in 1989 and he is far better than his contemporaries that worked till they were forced to retire at the age of 65. The best time to plan for your retirement is when you earn you first income as an employee, that is why I am an advocate retire young and retire rich. Who told you that the OP will not focus on his hobby or other interest when he retires. Retirement does not mean you will be useless, but you are no in the rat race where most people find themselves in. A member of my church with investments in real estate and stocks retired last year in the private sector at the age of 50, to focus on his interest which missionary work and capacity building for entrepreneurs. When people who have spent 30 years working are not willing to retire due to lack of early retirement planning, how will the teeming unemployed youths have a place to work, |
popsy68: ANY IDEA ON VIABLE INVESTMENT WINDOWS FOR INTENDING RETIREE WITH NO SUPERVISION REQUIRED, PLEASEIt is almost impossible unless if had invested heavily in real estate and the stock market during your working days, the rental income and dividend will be more than enough to sustain you at retirement. Another option is if you had build a business that has the right structure, system and process in place, the will generate income without you being there. |
Elai147: I offloaded my Oando prior to the Ibori saga. Now that the dust is getting settled, I may start accumulating soon.Oando may be another International Brewery. I guess the management of Oando have learnt their lessons. |
A good company can sell at a bad price, while a bad company can sell at a good price. I remember a bad company selling at a good price of less than N1.00 in 2006 based on the company's fundamentals. A group of new investors invested in this company, raised more funds through right offer that sold at N0.85k in 2006 and turned around the company, as we speak the stock is selling around N20.00 giving an annualised return of about 60% between 2006 and 2013. The company is International Brewery Ilesha |
manie: Every good investors needs to learn how to value a company. I will advice every investor to read Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham., and Security Analysis by Benjamin Graham and David Dodd.Investors make money when they buy, while speculators hope to make money when they sell. A value investor looks forward to having cheaper stock prices. |

stockbull: transcorp is rebounding today as it formed a tweezer.although am measuring some weakness in sentiment but should increase with almost five percent.i've not done analysis for some time now but still have some in memory.I think the future looks bright for Transcorp. |
Kashif: Bros, if you call speculation gambling then am afraid you are greatly mistaken. In stock, you gamble when you buy junk stocks hoping to make quick gains.Behind every stock is a company, try and understand the company, management and the industry you invest in, the stock price of the company you invest in is just one part of the equation. Shrewd investors based on the cash-flow that can be generated from the the investment. As a value investor if the price of a fundamentally good stock which I have interest in goes down, I will definitely buy more of the stock. A lot of us were madly bullish in 2008, you need to ask yourself what value did you see in the stock you bought in 2008 that made you buy at the price you bought. A banking stock selling at a PE of over 40 in 2008 may be termed expensive, you would have done well rather buying a NB stock for N40, Nestle for around N200, Presco at N10 etc. |
What is the minimum rental income that can be generated from this property? |
An investor owns the cow because of the milk and calves to be produced, while a speculator owns the cow because of the beef. |
Born 2be Rich: FO is almost N60..chiaThe market is reacting to the positive news as per the privatisation of the power sector. FO is a core investor in one of the power plants. |
Kashif: manie, A speculator is by no means seeing the stock market as a casino. Gamblers do! There are millions of speculators out there, and they make money.I still do not see anything wrong with not wanting to keep any particular stock beyond three months. All stocks do not move at the same time; timing matters! Being able to buy near valleys and selling near peaks is what am looking at. I don't need the money in January so, I can keep turning the funds there indefinitely if opportunities keep presenting themselves.I understand your point, but thinking that the stock market is the place to make money in 3 months is the easiest way to go broke. It is possible to make good money in 3 months, that should be an exception and not necessarily the norm or the rule. You can decide to speculate with a maximum of 40% of your portfolio, but speculating with 60% or more of your portfolio is not good to building sustainable wealth via the stock market. |
janykute: Manie,This your statement is very discouraging for small and upcoming Investors like us.I no be heavyweight, but everyone of us have the ability to one if we have the patience to invest in good companies, invest regularly and invest for the long term. The easiest way to get broke is by turning the stock market to your casino. Real wealth is not build on the short run, but built on the long run. |
janykute: Manie,This your statement is very discouraging for small and upcoming Investors like us.It is not discouraging, a speculator called Kashif said he has N1 million to speculate in the market. I advices him to invest in his financial education, invest regularly and invest in good company for the long term. He said he does not do long term investment, he wanted to invest for just 3 months. Anybody that wants his money in 3 months will save himself a lot of stress by investing in TB. At his stage it will be better if he works hard at building his portfolio, rather than think that the stock market is a casino. |
