The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) gubernatorial candidate in Ogun State, Adekunle Akinlade, yesterday, said the electorate have resolved to resist extension of political hegemony to the state by “external forces” by voting the candidate of their choice in 2019 general elections. Akinlade stated this yesterday at the APM official campaign flag-off and adoption of President Muhammadu Buhari as the presidential candidate. ADVERTISEMENT The MKO International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, venue of the rally witnessed massive crowd comprising party members, leaders and candidates for various offices in the next election. Apart from Buhari, the opposition party equally adopted Governor Ibikunle Amosun and Lekan Mustapha, both APC flagbearers, as the senatorial candidates for Ogun Central and Ogun East.https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/allied-party-adopts-buhari-in-ogun.html? Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday, spoke to traders via the TraderMoni call centre set up by the Bank of Industry (BOI) to track 3.56 million potential beneficiaries and 1.15 million traders that had received their loans. Real-time information from the centre set up in Abuja showed that disbursements under the TraderMoni scheme have hit N11.5 billion as at December this year. ADVERTISEMENT Further real-time information showed that 51.3 per cent of the beneficiaries are females while 48.7 per cent are males. Foodstuff vendors constituted majority of the beneficiaries with 39 per cent, followed by clothing vendors at 20.6 per cent, FMCG vendors at 10.1 per cent and recharge card vendors 4.2 per cent. ADVERTISEMENT The vice president, who inspected the centre, took calls from beneficiaries and prospective beneficiaries of the micro credit scheme on updates on their applications. He described the scheme as the largest enterprise scheme for petty traders on the African continent. He said two million petty traders will be captured in the first phase of the scheme and more people will be captured in the second phase. He likened the scheme to the Katsina Foundation run by President Muhammadu Buhari in which petty traders were given N2,000 to support their petty businesses. The Managing Director of BOI, Olukayode Pitan, said the bank has confidence that the beneficiaries would repay the loans and even get higher loans.https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/n11-5bn-spent-on-tradermoni-as-fg-sets-up-monitoring-centre.html? mynd44 oam4j Lalasticlala |

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Hameed Ali says any officer who fails staff college courses thrice will be shown the way out. Ali said this at the graduation of 2018 Course two comprised of Senior and Junior Courses of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, Abuja on Friday. He explained that the reform being undertaken in the area of capacity building was meant to compliment the administrative transformation in staff posting and promotion. “The era of scoring 99.9 per cent in APPER form to determine officers’ promotion is over, because henceforth, the promotion will be based on performance. “If you attempt this training courses three times and you fail, it will bring you to the end of your career in the service. “We are already implementing strictly the standing operational procedures to guide regular staff movements, as well as to determine the promotion of deserving officers from one rank to the other. “Henceforth, promotion to the next rank and the nature of postings of an officer will depend to a large extent on participation and performance during the staff college courses. “The implications of this include the fact that attendance of the college is now mandatory for all officers due or nominated,’’ he said. Ali warned that whoever failed to attend would face severe sanctions because henceforth, the management would fall back on the course’s reports issued on the participation and performance of the students to determine the kind of postings and suitability for certain appointments.https://dailynigerian.com/hameed-ali-to-customs-officers-you-fail-staff-college-courses-thrice-you-end-your-career/?_ Lalasticlala mynd44 oam4j |

A seven-year-old Indian girl went to the police after her father broke his promise to build her a toilet. Hanifa Zaara told the police in a letter that her father had "cheated" her and should therefore be arrested. She said that she was "ashamed" to defecate outside. Many Indians do not have access to toilets and nearly 500 million defecate in the open, according to Unicef. Even where toilets have been built, many do not use them. Hanifa who lives with her parents in Ambur, a town in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, has never had a toilet in her house. She told BBC Tamil's Krithiika Kannan that a few people in her neighbourhood did have the facility. So she asked her father to build a toilet in their house too. She was in nursery at the time. "I was ashamed to go outside and I felt bad when people looked at me," Hanifa said. And she was especially motivated after learning in school about the health problems caused by open defecation. In her letter to the police, she wrote that her father told her he would build the toilet if she topped her class. "I have been topping my class since nursery," she wrote. "I am in the second grade now. And he is still only saying he will do it. This is a form of cheating, so please arrest him." If not arrest, she added, she wanted the police to at least force him to provide her with a signed letter saying by when he would get her the toilet. Her father, Ehsanullah, told BBC Tamil he had actually begun building the toilet, but did not have enough money to complete it. He is currently unemployed. "I asked Hanifa to give me more time but she stopped talking to me because I couldn't keep my promise," he added. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-46534681?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C2947065703 Mynd44 lalasticlala r231 Freiburger |

A group of 71 lawmakers of the House of Representatives, mostly from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have canvassed for the return of Nigeria from the presidential to the parliamentary system of government. Briefing newsmen at the National Assembly in Abuja on Thursday, spokesmen of the group, Kingsley Chinda (PDP, Rivers) and Nicholas Ossai (PDP, Delta), said the parliamentary system, as opposed to the presidential system, suits Nigeria because it is more economic friendly, cost effective and largely efficient in the conduct of government business. Rising from “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Alteration) Bill, 2018,” the lawmakers lamented that whereas, countries under the parliamentary system were prospering, the presidential system has “reduced Nigeria to the poverty capital of the world.” “We are 71 bi-partisan members of the House of Representatives, who feel that the parliamentary system of government promulgated by the Lyttleton Constitution of 1954 is the best for Nigeria since the presidential system has reduced us to the poverty capital of the world. “Our position in this legislation clearly points to compelling advantages of parliamentary system of government, such as economic growth and development, as well as inherent efficiency in the conduct of government business. “Studies have shown that countries under the presidential regimes consistently produce lower output, volatile inflation and greater income inequality relative to those under parliamentary system,” the group said. However, this is coming just few months to the expiration of the legislative life of the 8th Assembly, thus raising concern over the period required to push the bill through the normal legislative process. The bill, if passed, will also require the assent of President Muhammadu Buhari to become law, and be enshrined in the Constitution. Recall that Nigeria practised the British-styled parliamentary system of government in the First Republic, from 1960 until 15 January, 1966 when the military took power. However, the 1979 Constitution returned the country to the US-styled presidential system of government, largely because of the tensions and acrimonious politics of the First Republic.https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/breaking-reps-want-nigeria-returned-to-paliamentary-system.html? The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has said that Nigeria is a leading investment destination for potential and serious investors across the world. According to a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja, the vice president stated this while launching the All Progressives Congress (APC) #NextLevel Campaign manual in the U.K. The statement was issued by Ade Omole, leader, United Kingdom chapter of the APC. It quoted the vice president as saying at the event held at the Intercontinental Hotel Hamilton Place, London, that Nigeria was safe in the hands of President Muhammadu Buhari as the country’s President. The vice president attributed the perceived hardships in the county to the activities of past administrations and those who looted the country’s treasury. According to him, the looting was unprecedented. He assured Nigerians in the Diaspora that the APC-led government was rebuilding the country’s economy and had delivered on most of its campaign promises. The vice president appreciated the contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora, saying there was a need for them to join hands to ensure the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/more-news/300727-2019-osinbajo-launches-apc-nextlevel-campaign-manual-in-uk.html? The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State worsened on Monday as the two rivals for its governorship ticket, Buruji Kashamu, and Ladi Adebutu, launched separate campaigns for the 2019 election. Mr Kashamu, who is recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), launched his campaign in Ijebu-Igbo town, while Mr Adebutu, who the national headquarters of the party has handed the party’s flag in the state, launched his in Abeokuta. Both venues were thronged by thousands of their different sets of supporters who claimed each was the authentic PDP flagbearer. Mr Kashamu’s supporters argued that his candidature has been affirmed by the electoral body. But Mr Adebutu’s supporters said the presentation of the party flag to him by the national leadership of the party affirmed his candidature, stressing that Mr Kashamu and his supporters were only wasting their time and resources. The two factions in the state conducted parallel congresses, but INEC acting on a court judgement recognised Mr Kashamu as the party’s candidate. PDP had earlier suspended Mr Kashamu and the Dayo Bayo-led executive in the state. But they went to court and obtained judgement. At the zonal flag off of the PDP campaigns in the Southwest last week in Ibadan, the party presented its flag to Mr Adebutu as its governorship candidate for Ogun State, ignoring Mr Kashamu who was not at the event. The National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, while presenting the party flags to the governorship candidates in the zone, including Seyi Makinde for Oyo State and Jimi Agbaje for Lagos State, who was represented by Oluwayemisi Busari, declared that those who want to contest against the party and its candidates in the South-West states should be ready. He boasted that PDP would win the legal tussle on its governorship candidate in Ogun, emphasising that Mr Adebutu was duly elected in the primary.https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/300270-2019-ogun-pdp-crisis-worsens-as-two-governorship-candidates-launch-separate-campaigns.html |

The Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola SAN, on Monday blamed the Peoples Democratic Party for abandoned Federal Government projects across the country. He stated this while inspecting the building project of the Federal Secretariat, Awka, Anambra State. He described corruption during the PDP era as monumental, adding, “They looted our collective destiny, prospects, jobs and so on. “That’s why the masses are suffering today. That’s why there are no jobs. But we (APC) are trying to bring back smiles on the faces of Nigerians.” He said the 18-kilometre Umunya axis of the Onitsha/Enugu Expressway would be completed in May 2019, while the Federal Secretariat, Awka, the state capital, would be completed in the first quarter of next year. Fashola said the President Muhammadu Buhari government inherited those projects because past governments failed to complete them as a result of corruption. “They awarded the contract without paying contractors and when you don’t pay contractors, you create problems down the labour ladder. “For instance, the contract for this federal secretariat was awarded in 2012 by the previous administration without making funds available for its completion. If the money meant for it was not stolen, it would have been completed before now. “We are bringing back what was denied the people in the past to them; that’s the difference between a development administration and a corrupt regime”, the minister stated. http://saharareporters.com/2018/12/11/pdp-looted-our-destiny-prospects-says-fashola%E2%80%8B |

The Federal Government says former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement will not save the People’s Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, from defeat in the 2019 general elections. Information Minister Lai Mohammed, in an interaction with journalists in Abuja yesterday, was reacting to a statement credited to Obasanjo that he could not be neutral about the 2019 polls when the country was being destroyed with “incompetence, corruption, brazen impunity and denial of the obvious”. The minister said while it is Obasanjo’s constitutional right to support any candidate for an election, his (Obasanjo’s) candidate “will be defeated roundly and comprehensively’’. Mohammed said, “With due respect to former President Obasanjo, it is his constitutional right to support any candidate of his choice and we urge him to go out and campaign vigorously for any candidate he wants to support. “He has not hidden his preference for the PDP candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and we wish him very best of luck. However, I want to assure you that his candidate will be defeated roundly and comprehensively. It is not about endorsement, endorsement does not win election.” https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/2019-obasanjos-endorsement-wont-save-atiku-fg.html? Lalasticlala oam4j mynd44 |
