Ahead of the completion of the Lagos-Abeokuta section of the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail, the Federal Government has declared free train ride for residents of the area for two months. Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi during a routine inspection of the project on Friday said the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo would flag off the free train ride on Wednesday next week (February 6). Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Engr. Fidet Okhiria had last week said the Lagos-Abeokuta axis would be completed in 10 days. Daily Trust reports that the Lagos-Abeokuta covers 85 kilometers of the entire 156-kilometer stretch of the project and as at the time of filing this report, the contractor, the China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC), has virtually completed the track laying. The Minister who spoke with newsmen said he was impressed with the work so far carried out on the project, adding that two coaches would be deployed from Itakpe-Warri railway station to make four coaches which would run the free ride for two months. He said, “I am impressed. The Vice-President will ride the train on February 6. He is coming to flag off the passengers’ use of the first phase from Lagos to Abeokuta which would reduce travel time from 1 hour 30 minutes to 45 minutes.” On the Lagos axis, the Minister assured that it would be ready by the end of June, 2019.https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/fg-declares-two-month-free-ride-as-osinbajo-flags-off-lagos-abeokuta-rail-feb-6.html? oam4j mynd44 lalasticlala |

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has stated that a lot of job opportunities would be opened up for craftsmen by the Buhari-led administration through its massive infrastructure development programmes aimed at catalysing rapid economic growth across the country. The minister, who was delivering his speech at the maiden edition of the Nigerian Skills Expo and Construction and Artisans Award in Abuja said in the quest to bridge the infrastructure gap, there was no one single state in the country at present where at least one federal road was not under rehabilitation or construction. He noted that under the National Housing Scheme pilot programme, various number of housing units were designed for construction in the 34 states that made available land for the project, adding that about 90 electricity transmission substations and over one hundred injection substations were being built, and the people working there include engineers and artisans. The award which was sponsored by a real estate development project, Construction Skills Training and Empowerment Project Ltd/Gtte (C-STEmp) resulted from competitions organised at the state and zonal levels across the country in which the various categories of artisans including tilers, carpenters, masons, iron benders, plumbers, etc. participated with the grand finale being held at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja on Wednesday. “What Buhari has now done in order to ensure that people like you are gainfully employed is that he recently signed Executive Order 5, the sum and substance of which is that any job relating to skilled building, construction, technical work that a Nigerian can do must be given to him in preference to a foreigner, and my ministry has told all our contractors that on all our construction sites we will apply the executive order.” He also pointed out that other gigantic project such as the Mambilla Power Plant in Taraba State would definitely provide different kinds of skilled job for artisans when works resume on the site. “The Mambilla Power Project in Tarawa State calls for construction of other facilities also. On that project alone, we are going to need about 18 million bags of cement. “The same project will require 18 tonnes of aggregate and about 42, 000 tonnes of steel to build. In that way many of you will be involved in the value chain. “The bottom line is that , many jobs will be created and many people will be employed,” he said.https://leadership.ng/2019/02/01/buhari-administration-will-create-unlimited-job-opportunities-for-artisans-fashola/? mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala |

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday signed Executive Order 007 to close the road infrastructure gap in the transportation sector of the country through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement. Tagged order 007 on road infrastructure development and refurbishment investment tax credit scheme, the president signed it at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. In the first phase of the scheme, 19 road projects covering 794 kilometers in 11 states are going to be fixed by six private companies including Dangote Group of Companies. The benefitting states are Abia, Borno, Benue, Edo, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Lagos and Rivers. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Governors of Abia, Kaduna, Kogi, Gombe, Jigawa and Zamfara states. Signing the order, Buhari said through the scheme, companies that willing and able to spend their own funds on constructing roads to their factories or farms would recover their construction costs by paying reduced taxes over a period of time. Speaking on behalf of the investors, the chairman of Dangote Group of Companies, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, promised the government that they won’t fail in fixing the road projects. “The impact is that it will make businesses run smoothly and also more profitably, it will reduce the cost of doing business because as we speak today, all of you know the deplorable condition of roads in Nigeria,” he said. Speaking for the governors, Nasir El- Rufai of Kaduna State described the order as an innovative governance that would benefit all. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/buhari-signs-order-for-construction-of-794km-of-roads.html? |
