Mr Yusuf Bala, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, says the Southern Kaduna Senatorial District will give President Muhammadu Buhari over 90 per cent of their votes in the forthcoming presidential election. Bala disclosed this after a delegation of All Progressives Congress (APC) had a closed door meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday. ADVERTISEMENT He said that the delegation felicitated with the Federal Government and acknowledged the work it had done for the nation in the last three and a half years. “Particularly as it affects the poor people who are 80 per cent voter-based and to assure the vice president that because of the much work that has been done; the next election is as good as delivered. ADVERTISEMENT “We are here to say that by over 90 per cent, we will deliver the president and vice president in the next election as well as the governor and his deputy among others including myself the senatorial candidate for the zone.’’ The deputy governor said that Osinbajo had warmed himself into the hearts of many Nigerians through various grassroots programmes he championed. The Southern Kaduna APC Senatorial candidate added that part of the reason for the visit was also to invite the vice president to the zone.https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/southern-kaduna-assures-buhari-of-over-90-votes.html? Lack of external infrastructure is the reason why Ajaokuta Steel Company is yet to start operations, the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Abubakar Bawa Bwari, has said. The minister was speaking at a press briefing on the three years’ accounts and stewardship of the ministry held in Abuja, yesterday. “Ajaokuta is 98% completed. Everything is in place and we have our workers there that are maintaining the place. The remaining two percent has to do with external infrastructure. We need waterways. We need viable ports and so on. Government is putting all these things in place now,” he stated. He continued: “Even if it was completed 100% it would not be able to operate. If we are to bring in all the raw materials required from Itakpe, like the iron concentrate required, you need 750 trucks travelling each day to feed Ajaokuta. Imagine 750 trucks on Ajaokuta-Itakpe road daily. The road will be bad in one week. “So, what we have done is that we have completed the road link from Ajaokuta, Itakpe Warri ports. For Baro, it will soon be commissioned. We are trying to fix the infrastructure that will make Ajaokuta work,” the minister said. He said many investors have indicated interest in taking over Ajaokuta, including investors who want to fix those infrastructure, adding “Ajaokuta will work.’’ The said under President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s strategic interventions from 2016, the mining sector has witnessed a steady rise in its contribution to the nation’s GDP from 0.33% in 2015 to 0.6% in 2016. “Overall, the revenue generated by the ministry from royalties and fees has improved from N2.08 billion in 2015 to N3.92 billion in 2017 and N2.97 billion as at October 2018. Limestone mining has continued to lead in royalties earned by government,” he added. He said within the period under review, the Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) has realized the sum of N5.2 billion as revenue generated through processing and other licensing fees.https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/why-ajaokuta-steel-hasnt-started-operation-fg.html? |

The Nigerian Army said yesterday that it has arrested suppliers of logistics such as petrol and drugs to members of the Boko Haram sect in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. The acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Brig-Gen Bulama Biu who disclosed this while reacting to the ban imposed on the supply of firewood and charcoal in the state noted that the Boko Haram logistics supply syndicates were arrested among loggers and charcoal dealers. He hinted that intelligence report indicated that some dealers in Maiduguri were hiding under the guise of firewood trade to aid the insurgents. Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri, Biu said, “Some of them are errand boys of the Boko Haram insurgents. They hide food items, drugs, petrol and other items beneath their trucks, and supply them to the terrorists. “We also found out that some of them are running businesses on behalf of the Boko Haram insurgents. They go deep into the forest where ordinary people cannot venture to cut down trees, burn and produce charcoal. “This could not be possible except they are in agreement with the insurgents. We arrested some of them and they made quite revealing testimonies. We shall fish them out to put an end to their nefarious activities”. Biu explained that the ban was temporarily designed to checkmate activities of criminal elements among the dealers and not to make life difficult for firewood and charcoal users. He stated that the military had allowed suppliers from other states such as Oyo, Kano, Katsina, Niger and Kaduna to supply their goods under strict supervision of the command. He called on the people to support the military and other security agencies to end insurgency as well as protect lives and property. https://leadership.ng/2019/01/14/army-nabs-boko-haram-fuel-drug-suppliers-in-borno/ Mynd44 oam4j mynd44 |

Nigeria is set to save about N127billion annually in foreign exchange conservation annually along the value chain with plans to pass into law the local content bill on 20 per cent cassava flour inclusion. The federal government also hopes to generate about three million jobs from this effort. In order to drive the bill, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology has set up a committee known as Competitiveness Assessment Committee (CAC). This will increase effectiveness, service delivery and healthy rivalry among the institutes under the ministry. According to the federal government, the ultimate aim of the whole exercise is to promote local industrial development, discourage importation of the same technology and equipment that are locally manufactured to create a better platform for balance of trade and improve the condition of local currency in the economy. The committee comprises both national and international agencies to investigate and measure the rate of healthy competition among the 17 research institutes under the ministry. Among the agencies that formed the committee are United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Nigeria Academy of Science (NSA), Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and some other agencies of both national and international recognition. The 17 parastatals under the ministry of science and technology were adequately scrutinized by the committee and at the end, Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO) came first, making the agency to be entitled to the reward of N1 billion which will be added to their 2019 budget as promised by the Minister, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu. The second and third runner-up would have N740 million and N500 million as added budget respectively. While speaking with LEADERSHIP in Lagos, the director general of FIIRO, Prof. Gloria Elemo, said that more efforts are underway to improve industrialization in Nigeria. She expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the investigation, saying that FIIRO emerged as the best out of the 17 agencies under Ministry of Science and Technology because of the visionary and capable leadership that manned the Institute. https://leadership.ng/2019/01/14/fg-to-save-n127bn-yearly-from-cassava-flour-in-bread/ Mynd44 lalasticlala oam4j |

The All Progressives Congress National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday assured President Muhammadu Buhari that the party’s campaign council had accepted the assignment given to it by the president and would work for the country. “We accept President Buhari’s Assignment”, Tinubu said in a statement by his Media Officer, Mr Tunde Rahman in Lagos, noting that the council would not let President Buhari down. Tinubu also the Co-Chair of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council, said that letting Buhari down would also let down the nation. He said he had therefore, rallied members of the campaign council with the Minister of Transport, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, as Director-General for the task ahead. He noted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should not be allowed to return to power and “return to the days where they ruled the nation like overlords”. “I think I can speak for all members of the campaign council that we accept the assignments given by the President with devotion and a firm commitment to perform to our utmost, individually and collectively on the tasks given. “It is a great honor and responsibility he has given us. We dare not let him down because doing so would also let down the nation. “This election concerns more than two competing personalities and political parties. It is a contest between two different visions for the country and the futures these visions portend. “The APC seeks a better Nigeria by reforming our institutions of governance that these institutions may better implement policies engendering dynamic economy development. “We seek not only growth but also a fair and just allocation to all segments of society of the harvest of our national endeavors. “Let no Nigerian be forever trapped in poverty and despair. Let all Nigerians be given the genuine opportunity to realise their full potential and contribute to this nation and their own lives as much as their talents and willpower permits of them. “We build a Nigeria where government leads the nation but does not rule over the people,” he said http://thenationonlineng.net/ready-work-nigeria-tinubu-buhari/? |
