President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday met behind closed doors with governors from the South Eastern part of country.
The meeting started shortly after the governors arrived the State House around 4.07p.m.
Also at the meeting was the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
They were driven to the forecourt of the Presidential Villa in a bus.
The meeting was still in progress at the time of filing this report.

Borno senator, Ali Ndume, has said that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar, will be a walkover for President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general elections.
Mr Ndume, chairman, Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, made the statement at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja.
He said the All Progressives Congress(APC) was not perturbed by Mr Abubakar’s emergence, adding that he was not a threat to the party in any way.
According to him, the records were there for Nigerians to judge.
“Next election is a walk-over with Atiku.
“We were anxious when PDP was to organise their primaries but when Atiku emerged, we were glad for so many reasons,” he said.
“Atiku was our Vice President for eight years and he was one of the most powerful vice presidents we ever had and we know what he did.
“He was under former President Obasanjo and in his book “Under My Watch”, he voluntarily described who the presidential candidate is.
“We all know where we were and where we are now. Had it been they are presenting a new person, someone that Nigerians do not know, that may have been a threat but with Atiku, no way.
“Let us analyse it. North West is where the president comes from and we are banking on our highest votes there and if you go to any part of the North West, you will realise that his popularity is unprecedented.
“Then if you go to North East, Buhari is a moral obligation,” he said.

The Presidency yesterday night said that N400bn cash is now in the anti-corruption recovery account of the Federal Government against the N2bn in the whole of PDP 16 years.
Reacting to Ms Priti Patel, former secretary of state for International Development in the United Kingdom (UK) who, in a published statement called on investors to be wary about investing in Nigeria,the Presidency said the government is winning the corruption war.

The Presidency in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu described Patel’s claim as a wicked proposition.
“This wicked proposition is lacking in substance and devoid of merit in empirical evidence established by facts. Her claim to the effect that despite the President’s public anti-corruption platform, Nigeria has not seen any reduction in corruption since Buhari took office, trumpeting a so-called Transparency International report is a false fabrication that cannot be supported by the facts on the ground.

“By the time President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in and took office, the only amount in the anti-corruption recovery account over 16 years of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was only N2bn.
This account has succeeded in netting over N400bn as of today, translating to 1,360 percent increase. This cannot amount to nothing in terms of progress.
When it comes to Policy decisions, this government has put in place instruments that have extraordinarily and unprecedentedly reduced corruption and corrupt practices. For example, the Treasury Single Account, TSA has led to greater visibility and control of government funds by way of consolidating government resources in an account as against the past where such accounts are scattered,” he said.
He said the Bank Verification Number, BVN scheme has equally helped the government to prevent money laundering, financing terrorism and illicit cash transfers.
“This administration has introduced the IPPS, which implementation has led to an extraordinary reduction of ghost workers, saving the treasury billions of Naira every month.”

The senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has accused the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of introducing vote-buying into the Nigeria’s electoral system.
Ndume, who said this in Abuja while speaking as a guest on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum.

Ndume was reacting to the allegation that the President Muhammadu Buhjari-led administration was using its Special Investment Programmes, including TradeMoni, to buy the electorate over.
The lawmaker alleged that the party’s current presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, emerged through vote-buying.

“First of all, during the presentation of `Next Level’ on Sunday, this allegation was categorically denied, and we said if there is such evidence, whoever is involved should be reported to the appropriate authority.
“Having said that, let me note that it is the PDP, and you can quote me on this, that introduced voted buying.
“Even now, they are concentrating on buying votes, not on campaigning to genuinely win election. So, I don’t know where this accusation is coming from.
“The PDP presidential candidate emerged by buying the votes, in dollars not even in naira.
“It is on record and everybody knows that even the presidential candidacy of PDP is purchased.’’

Titi Abubakar, wife of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, said she married her husband because of his honesty, sincerity and integrity.
Mrs Abubakar made the remarks when a group, Women for Atiku, paid her a courtesy visit at her Maitama residence in Abuja.
“I get confused whenever I read the false allegations of corruption being peddled by mischief makers against my husband in the media.
“I ask myself if they are referring to my husband whom I have been married to for 47 years or a different person.
“No one knows my husband like I do and their descriptions of him are totally that of a different person and not that of the man I love and adore because of his uprightness.
She said they were brought together by destiny and had been endeared to him because of his sterling qualities and patriotism to his fatherland.
“I was on my way back to Nigeria from Benin Republic where I visited my aunt and was accosted by custom officials at the Idi-Iroko Boarder who demanded for payment of a duty for the pair of brocade material which was a gift from my aunt.
“An argument ensued between us and I told them to keep the material because I would not pay duty for a pair of brocade, and a gift at that.
“The officer, who was Head of the Command at that time intervened, paid for the duty charge and gave me the receipt.
“One thing led to the other, we hooked up later and the rest is now history.
“As the head, he could have chosen to order that I be allowed to go, but he paid for the duty and that act from that time impressed me and I fell deeply in love with the man Atiku,’’ she said.
The National Coordinator of Women for Atiku, Blessing Ebera, thanked Mrs Abubakar for the warm reception accorded her group and pledged that it would continue to mobilise women across every ward to vote for Atiku Abubakar come 2019.
She said that the National leadership and the 36 state coordinators of the group visited to inform her that with the commencement of campaign, the group was set to penetrate every corner of Nigeria to mobilise support towards an Atiku victory in 2019.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on workers across the country, especially government employees, to vote against any governor unwilling to implement the new national minimum wage of N30,000 monthly.

NLC insisted that there was no way a governor would not be able to pay the new minimum wage.

This position was canvassed over the weekend at the Lagos Airport by the NLC Vice-President, Comrade Amaechi Asugwuni, during the inauguration of the new National Administrative Council (NAC) of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE).

Asugwuni declared that the electorate had the power to vote out such governors in the forthcoming general election in 2019 and urged them to use the power of their votes.

Asugwuni, however, noted that some governors had officially written to the NLC that they would implement the new minimum wage as soon as it went through the required processes.

“I am telling Nigerians that any governor that undermines the payment of minimum wage should be voted out. They are hiding under the governors’ forum not to pay, but they have confirmed to us and written us that they can pay the minimum wage. N30,000 is not even the money that can take anybody home. The President as a matter of urgency should transmit that minimum wage document to the National Assembly," he said.
