PoliticsKwara By-election: APC Candidate, Olawuyi Speaks by ManirBK(op): 11:29am On Nov 18, 2018
The winner of Saturday’s by-election in Kwara, Tunji Olawuyi, has described his victory as one for residents of the state.
Mr Olawuyi won Saturday’s Ekiti/Isin/Oke-Ero and Irepodun federal constituency bye-election in Kwara State.
Mr Olawuyi said the success was a sign of more victories to come for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 general elections in Kwara.
He said this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday at Omu-Aran, Kwara, while reacting to the outcome of the poll.
According to the electoral commission, INEC, Mr Olawuyi polled 21,236 to emerge winner, while his closest rival, Saheed Alatise of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), scored 18,095.
Mr Alatise was backed by Senate President Bukola Saraki, Govenror Abdulfatah Ahmed and other PDP leaders in the state.
PREMIUM TIMES reported how Messrs Saraki and Ahmed have both alleged irregularities in the election, saying security agencies connived to ensure victory for the APC candidate.
“This is a happy moment for me because we have been doing this for a long time,” Mr Olawuyi said.
“When your time has come, no one can stop you but at the same time, I give glory to God, because it is the best time Allah has created for me.
“My party believed in me to put me forward for the assignment and I thank God I have delivered,” he said.
Mr Olawuyi, who described the APC as the best in Africa, said he was never scared of the opposition because he is a grassroots politician that is loved by his people.
He said because of the fact that his people love him and follow him with passion, he will always defeat his opponents in a free and fair election.
Mr Olawuyi said the state government’s statement that the election was between the PDP and the security agencies was laughable because it was what they were used to.
He said he is now sure of an APC victory in the state in the 2019 general elections because of the spirit the electorate have demonstrated.

The only thing he can show is:
AUN (University)which their school fees is 1.6M
AUN Nursery and Primary school 250,000 to 40,000
Faro water and juice from 150 upward.
Now How many poor men can afford all these?

The only policy that this stupid man burst of initiating and implementing is that of privatization. Which he sold almost all our assets.

Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) arrived Yola, the Adamawa State capital on Saturday, and was welcomed by a crowd consisting of supporters of various political parties.
His supporters were only allowed to queue at the area from the airport gate to PZ roundabout, as officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and security operatives barricaded the entrance into the airport, and allowed only selected persons access.
The former vice-president was driven in a convoy to his Dougirei residence, where he addressed a crowd on the need to vote for the PDP.
"My victory at Port Harcourt is your own victory and the North-East. But the task is far from over; you have to vote for PDP from top to bottom. Vote for me, our governorship candidate and other candidates of our party," Atiku said.

PoliticsRe: Why We’re Delaying Result – Yauri Millet Counters by ManirBK(op): 10:24am On Nov 18, 2018
Applaud for them but gradually they are turning things into politics
PoliticsWhy We’re Delaying Result – Yauri Millet Counters by ManirBK(op):
Since the group of millet counters in Yauri, Kebbi State, concluded their exercise few weeks ago, there have been calls by people from different parts of the world to know how many grains are in a 100kg bag, according to the leader of the group.

But the counters appear not to be in a hurry to announce the number of millet grains to the world. It was gathered that they are making arrangements to document their everyday experience during the counting period and the number of grains they counted into a book form.
Our correspondent was told that a number of activities were being planned for the day of the announcement. It was gathered that the counters have written a 34 page book to tell their story.
They are waiting for the Emir of Yauri to pick a date for the announcement of the number of grains of millet they counted. They are also waiting for the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Babale Umar Yauri to give his approval to their request as the chief launcher of the book.
The leader of the group and chairman of the Millet Counting Committee, Ahmad Sarkin Yaki, in an exclusive interview, said, “We are still putting finishing touches to the activities we are arranging for the announcement. We have finished counting the millet, but the world should be patient with us because we are planning to launch a book on the day of the announcement.
Yaki said they decided to write the book as an account of what happened from the day they started counting the millet to the last day.
“We wrote a 34-page book in respect of the exercise. The book, titled, Buhun Gero ko ‘Yan Najeriya? was edited by Professor Aliyu Bunza of the University of Sokoto. It will be launched on the day we fix for the announcement of the number of millets we counted.
“Remember that we started counting the grains during an argument on whether the number of millets in a 100kg bag was more than the population of Nigeria. When we started, some people, out of ignorance of what we were doing, criticised us. At first, we were just doing our normal thing, but when people from China, Indonesia, USA, Niger Republic and other countries started asking us questions and became interested in what we were doing, we decided to do it in a way that would be more beneficial to the society.
“I am really happy to be part of the first set of people to embark on this type of exercise. We are not doing this because we are jobless. As I said earlier, we have a number of graduates among us. I am a graduate and I have been teaching for the past 13 years. I am also in the onions and fish business. I am proud of what we are doing and I thank God that people are appreciating us for it. Our curiosity led to the millet counting exercise,” he maintained.

PoliticsAtiku: Niger-Delta Can Have 100% Of Oil Revenues by ManirBK(op): 12:12pm On Nov 15, 2018
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has said he is willing to let Nigeria’s oil producing states have absolute control of crude oil revenues from their domains, but added he is reluctant to immediately implement such policies at this stage of national development.

The PDP candidate told The Africa Report that federating units once had considerable control of their resources, unlike the current federal laws that only allow 13 percent derivation for states in the Niger-Delta, where Nigeria’s sweet crude is extracted.

Although Mr Abubakar acknowledged the appropriate sharing formula might be difficult to say at this point — suggesting it would depend on ‘negotiations’— he recommended a limited role for the federal government in appropriating crude revenues.

Nigerian states “can get more because in the First Republic the regions had 50/50,” Mr Abubakar told The Africa Report in an interview published Wednesday. “I don’t mind giving even 100% […], but I would tax those states to maintain the federal government.”

But the former vice president recognised this is “not advisable at this stage of our development.”

“Even during the First Republic there was this derivation sharing between revenues and resources, or between the regions and the federal government. So I think we could have a middle course. It would be unfair to ask me for specifics; that will depend on negotiations,” he added.

Of all the presidential candidates for the 2019 election, Mr Abubakar has emerged the most vocal advocate of restructuring, an ideological standpoint that canvasses more powers for states at the expense of the central government.

He believes Nigeria’s subsisting Constitution, which recommends a federal system but implements a unitary one, should be urgently reviewed and replaced with a sovereign document that would engender a more peaceful and economically viable nation.

Oil revenues still account for over 80 percent of the Nigerian government’s revenues as of 2017, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, despite efforts towards economic diversification.

In the face of a floundering agriculture and services sector, reducing the federal government’s share of oil revenues to only taxes paid by about nine oil-producing states could be difficult to achieve soon.

“It is a good thing that the former vice president said he cannot go ahead with giving the Niger-Delta total control of oil income right now,” Busola Odukoya, an economist, told PREMIUM TIMES Thursday morning. “The only problem here is that it could cause some people in the region to resume violent agitation for resource control, especially if Mr Abubakar is elected.”

Ms Odukoya said it would be difficult to predict any negotiation that would result in allocating up to or more than 50 per cent of crude earnings to the states.

“Apart from the offshore oil revenues which the government in Abuja can easily control, the crude lifting within states’ borders in the Niger-Delta cannot be shared even 50/50 with the centre,” the economist said. “The negative impact on some states in the northern or central parts of the country can only be left to imagination.”

“You have to allow decades of regular economic growth, some of which I have seen the candidates talk about this year, before you can be thinking of cutting oil revenues from federal government,” she added.

PoliticsAtiku Offers Buhari's Team Free Crash Campaign Course For Two Weeks by ManirBK(op): 5:42pm On Nov 14, 2018
The Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organisation has offered the spokesman of the Muhammadu Buhari campaign team a free two-week crash course on how to run an "issue-based campaign that is guided by civility and refined language".
A statement issued by Atiku's team on Wednesday said the offer was in the light of conflicting statements by the President's campaign office.
"Just last week, our attention was drawn to a statement by the All Progressives Congress falsely accusing the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party of attempting to smuggle in large sums of money into the nation for the purpose of funding his campaign," read the statement.
"In the said statement from November 5, 2018, the APC called for security agents to be on the watch to prevent the imaginary ‘illicit cash’ from entering Nigeria. Thus, we are surprised that the same APC which made that false allegation has made a 180-degree turn by releasing a new statement contradicting their earlier statement and alleging that the former Vice President is broke.
"In their statement, they contend that ‘Atiku Abubakar is at a crossroads on how to source funds for the 2019 electioneering campaign'. Our response is to urge the APC to make up its mind on which lie it wants to tell the Nigerian people and then stick to that lie. As a party in power, there ought to be more stability in the APC at least to give the public and the international community some assurance that the party is not imploding. No wonder there is a lot of policy flip flop under the APC administration!

A federal high court in Uyo on Wednesday declared vacant the seat of a lawmaker in Akwa Ibom State who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The affected lawmaker, Idongesit Ituen, represented Itu State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

The suit was filed by Mr Ituen in September this year to pre-empt the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke, from declaring his seat vacant.

Apart from the speaker, other defendants in the suit were the PDP, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the commissioner of police, Akwa Ibom state.

Mr Luke had filed a counterclaim, seeking for “a declaration that having defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress before the expiration of the tenure of four years for which he was elected to serve, Hon. Idongesit Ntuen has lost his seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

“An order of court directing Hon Idongesit Ituen to vacate the Itu State Constituency seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly with immediate effect.

“An order of court restraining the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly or any other person acting on his behalf (including the staff of the House of Assembly) from further recognising Hon. Idongesit Ituen as a member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have intercepted gold worth about N211 million being illegally transported through the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
EFCC Acting Head, Media and Publicity, Tony Orilade, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.
Mr Orilade said the consignment was en route Dubai.
He said “following intelligence reports, the operatives on Nov. 9, 2018 uncovered the gold weighing about 35kg just at the point of departure of a suspect currently in the EFCC’s custody.”
He said that investigations were currently ongoing to unravel the accomplice behind the illegal movement of the item.
“Meanwhile, the suspect is cooperating with operatives.
“It will be recalled that the EFCC also in March 2017, intercepted bags containing a total of N49 million cash being illegally transported out of the country through the Kaduna International Airport,” Orilade said. (NAN)
